Lali-ho 'horts, Q4 officially begins this Friday and with it the beginning of the end of the year. Which games on your To Be Played list will you prioritize in Q4 and which ones are you resigned to leave to the mercies of your backlog?

Garrett Becker

Hey. I wanted to bring up this new game I’ve been playing because it is kind of insane and I haven’t heard anyone talk about it. It came out this month. I’ll describe parts of it and maybe see if you can guess what game it is. I spend a lot of time skateboarding around a giant open world city with other players online. If I get enough money, I can get a bike or even rollerblades. I’m managing a side career as a rapper and everyone on the social media in the game says I suck at it. I’m also dipping into fashion and walk a runway with other players sometimes to show off my style. I’ve got tons of quests and side quests I’m working on and I’m leveling up a large web of skills as I progress. It is a full blown RPG with choices in your actions and dialogue that actually affect things in my game… I just want to play basketball, but I’m enjoying all the other stuff as well. Have any of you seen the career mode in NBA 2K22? It is friggin’ weird!

Mark H

Hello, Maneater is a shark rpg. It has some crazy fantasy elements in it as well. If you could create a creature RPG, what creature would you pick and would it be grounded or fantasy based?

Spencer Price

ENGAGED!!!! First, Congrats to Ben. Marriage is now officially the coolest. Also... Happy Birthday, Sarah! Question: Hey, Ben, Janet, Kyle, and Sarah. Prediction time. How many copies will Metroid Dread sell in its first month? Will it be the best selling game in the franchise by virtue of being on the Switch or will it hold it's own among the greats (Super Metroid/Zero Mission/Fusion)? Will this and Metroid Prime 4 give it enough of a spotlight to be a top tier Nintendo franchise? Or will it always be a niche group that loves these games, but never have the broad appeal of a Mario/Zelda?

Zach Killian

Hello Minnmaxers! What 2021 game is already on your backlog of games that you'll eventually play but maybe not this year? Keep up the great work!

Muffyn Crumbs

Hey Ben & crew, I've got a game for ya: I'm going to list two media franchises and you need to pick which one has had more video game titles. 1. Alien/Predator OR Barbie --Answer: Barbie (70) vs AVP (60) 2. South Park vs The Simpsons --- Answer: Simpsons (28) vs South Park (9) 3. Starship Troopers vs Super Troopers --- Answer: Startship Troopers (5) vs Super Troopers (0) 4. Shrek vs Toy Story --- Answer: Shrek (37) vs Toy Story (9) 5. Scooby Doo vs Looney Tunes --- Answer: Looney Tunes (79) vs Scooby Doo (20) [FUN FACT: These two franchises actually share a video game! - "Scooby Doo! & Looney Tunes Cartoon Universe: Adventure"]

Hello Ben Hand's-in-marriage and the Midmax crew (thank you Instagram's closed captioning technology, and your welcome for the plug!). Do you believe that we are on the final full-iterations of the big-three's consoles? All three consoles have found their own ways of repackaging, delivering, or just offering you old games with the obvious ability to play any new games. But are we reaching a point where processing power doesn't account for any necessity to release a full-fledged new console. Microsoft is already offering you a reason to not buy the next Xbox. And with a new generation potentially being a decade off, will console gaming even make it that far to warrant three new boxes?

Mark Letarte

Hello Ben and the Two NNs. I love listening to your podcast on my drive home from work. When I turn into my driveway, I must accidentally hit my smartwatch because the play speed will change to 1 1/2 speed. I tap my watch again to fix it, but that means I hear you at 2x speed chipmunk voices and then at 1/2 speed creepy slow voice. It never fails to crack me up listening to you for a little bit this way. So, what coworker never fails to make you laugh more than anyone else?

Jake Z

How do you think about games that definitely want you to care about their narratives, but you mostly like them for their gameplay? Can a game be a masterpiece if it has a story that should hit and it doesn't?

Joe McMartin

Hello, My friends and I wanted to play The Ascent 4 player (2 pcs, Xbox one, Xbox one s). After waiting a couple months because we heard about issues, we finally jumped in. Between two different sittings of around 4 hours in total, we maybe had 15 continuous minutes where we were all playing together. The PCs had issues initially joining, and then the Xbox ones kept losing connection. How is this game still in this shape? It makes me terrified for the multiplayer games coming this fall. Should I be worried? Thanks, Joe

Nick from Atlanta

Hello Cohorts! I have a seemingly simple question for you this week: MinnMax's (unofficial? Official?) mantra is "Games, friends, and getting better." What does the getting better part mean to you? Nick from Atlanta

Sincerly, Eric

Hello lovely people! We are finally getting N64 on Switch with a lot of Nostaglic games to launch immediately. However, there are many lesser known titles I am hoping get a future announcement. My main question this week. Is there a more underrated N64 Title you all are hoping to see added to the Switch in the future, (or just a game in general you're hoping to see added.) For me it's definitely Army Men Sarges Heroes.

Styster

What do you think about the sense of announcements at events being "spoiled" ahead of time? Is it silly to be upset about a new game reveal getting leaked before the event? Or does it genuinely deflate some of the hype around a new announcement? Do you think it affects public's perception on games in any way? (I'm thinking of the initial pushback to Mario + Rabbids, for example.)

Habeeb Adejare

Hello Crew, During the Nintendo Direct, the cast list for the Mario Movie was revealed and in the middle of it I closed my browser because I just didn't want to deal with the news and memes and everyone's' hot take on the subject. I've since cooled off by recognizing in the grand scheme of things it won't matter. My Question for the CLCs, is this "has there been any piece of news that you have consciously avoided, because you either didn't have the energy to deal or felt you had nothing to add?". Thanks, and Congrats Ben.

MrButtons

Hey gang, Have you ever fixed up a bowl of popcorn as a complimentary side for your pizza? Everyone says my family is weird for doing this but it's basically as good of a combination as a burger and fries. Are my family and I crazy? Best, Lucas A. P.S. Congrats on the engagement Ben!

Christien

Hi MinnMax Nation, Congratulations on completing a big side quest Ben! This reminded me that I love to play games with my husband. He wasn’t much of a gamer when we met 10 years ago. Recently we’ve been passing the controller back and forth while playing Ghost of Tsushima. We trade off when one of us dies 3 times, completes a quest or two, or if we clear a large camp that we stumbled upon. One thing that steers my husband away from us doing this is when I’m much better then him at a game. I’ve been trying so hard to make sure I die, or complete a camp within 10-15 minutes as to keep his attention to the game. My question is, do you think it’s more fun to purposely match a friend or partners skill level to keep their spirits up and make sure they enjoy the game just as much as you? or do you try to show them all the “cool stuff” in hopes they will like it and play regardless of their skill level?

Deep Space Trace

Since Ben has been teasing a new cohort announcement for awhile and Sarah Podz is on this week’s show…can I be safe in congratulating her as the new cohort? If so, yay! If not, uh, sorry…? But hey! What’s your favorite thing about Sarah everybody? I find her objectively hilarious and appreciate her self-deprecating humor. Byeeeee

Dunder

Hey Ben and the horts! Simple question - What one thing would you change about your all time favorite game?

ProcyonNumber6

Hey Benn and Friennds, Quick one this week, we spelling fiance with 2 "n"s now? Let us knnow so we can be the cultural channge we wannt to see inn the world.

Hi Benny and the Cohorton hears a whos, Tonight I was playing Stardew Valley with my friend, split screen. We like to mess with each other's houses and I stole her giant teddy bear without her noticing. Later that day we went to the desert for the first time, and went into the skull cavern. I quickly died... Losing the teddy bear. So my question is: what's a time you really let your team down?

Christian Jimenez

Hi Nintendo Loving Cohorts, Will they use/say Mario's and Luigi's last name in the movie? (Mario Mario, Luigi Mario exclude if you want to pop quiz the panel on what it is). Thank you!

Palo

Hello! Any good road trip stories?

RiskyChrisP

Hi Cohorts, I think we can all agree the Mario movie has some questionable casting. Thankfully, there’s an easy solution: cast the Cohorts and friends of MinnMax in all the roles instead!

sandeezy

Hi Ben and friends! Recently, the Director’s Cut of Ghost of Tsushima dropped on PS5. Personally, even though I recognize it as a good game, I just cannot get into Ghost of Tsushima for the life of me. Same for other huge, “masterpiece” games like the Half-Life series or Red Dead Redemption 2; they’re universally loved, but I just don’t vibe with em. Do you guys have any huge, widely loved games that you just couldn’t get into? Thanks!

Dru Marcus

Greetings MinnMax and co! What disturbing moment from a movie or video game haunts you to this day? So many moments from Hereditary invade my dreams but the scene when a certain character loses their head is especially memorable yet haunting.

Aaron U

Hello all. In the Ghost of Tsushima Iki Island DLC there are three shrines that each represent a Playstation game. One is for God of War, one is for Bloodborne and one is for Shadow of the Colossus. You'll get themed armor for each if you complete the puzzles. My question is what are some of your favorite crossover easter eggs in games? Mine is the Monkey Island references in Uncharted 4.

Hootz

Hi friends! What is the oldest game in your backlog? Do you think you will ever play it? Also, Congratulations on your engagement, Ben! I think you're gonna like being married.

Ziyon Gonzalez

Hey crew! This question is for Suriel. Do you have the vex mythic last yet!? If so how many clears had it taken you?

Ian Switaj

Howdy ho MinnMaxxers! While the internet was certainly going absolutely bonkers with the casting choices for the new Mario movie there is no doubt there was quite a buzz in regards to the characters that will also be appearing in the movie (i.e. Donkey and Cranky Kongs). With the movie's release date being 448 days away at the time of this record, and knowing nothing else about the movie (not even what the characters will look like), what are your predictions for what the plot of the movie will be? Will our heroes travel to an alternate world in which they are video game characters? Will Cranky steal a time machine and go back in time to warn his younger self of the upstart Jumpman that will stop him from being with Paulina and then proceed to lock him up in a cage? Is there any bad blood between the Mario familia and the D.K. crew? Just what is Jack Blowser's evil scheme?

FriedSPAM

Helooooo MinnMax crew! I was out at a local brewery wearing my MinnMax t-shirt, when I heard some guys a couple of tables away say "MinnMax" as they all got up to get another round. It made me acutely aware that they were talking about MinnMax specifically because of my shirt but didn't want to approach me to talk about it. I'm sure I've done this many times myself. My question is: how do you all handle a situation where you recognize a somewhat obscure or niche reference that you like on someone's shirt in public when you're out with friends? Do you keep it to yourself? Do you tell your friends that you recognize it? Do you ever dare to go up to the person and engage them in a conversation about whatever their clothing is representing?

Wes Bates

Good Day MinnMax Family! If your life was a video game, who would be the composer of your soundtrack and why? Thanks for reading my question if you do! ~ Wes Bates Woodland, CA P.S. Big congratulations to Ben on his engagement! I’m very happy and excited for you and your soon to be bride!

IanTClark

What is your spirit animal?

James Ford

Hello Cohorts and compatriots! What do you think will be the gameplay trends of the PS5/XSX generation? It seems that cross media licenses and big triple A companies combining seems to be one, will this continue through the generation? How about in the indie space what will be the Indie genre of the generation? Personally I think that more character action like games are going to come back, potentially evolving from soulslile fatigue and using the particle effects to big effect. Indiewise I think 3D Zeldalikes will be huge this generation. Keep up the great work! James in Australia 🇦🇺

CalebMurray

If you consumed a Toad how hard would you trip?

PhillyYeetSteak

Hey gang! Ben discussed his thoughts on the best game characters of 2021 on the latest minnmax council episode, and now i wanna know... Who are your current favorite game villains/antagonists of 2021?

Bryce Blackmore

Gday for Aus! If you had to propose to a game and spend the rest of your life playing just that one game, which would it be and why?

MakeItUnclear

I think it would be a really good bit if everyone congratulated Ben on the engagement at the beginning of every call, email, and comment forever. So I guess my question is: Why not?

Strange Sloth

Congrats Ben! Me and my girlfriend of 8 years are getting married sometime next year. We went to the ring shop and decided together what to get each other. I’m curious how your process was! How did you propose?

Strange Sloth

Hey minnmax crew I was browsing my trophies on PlayStation and realized I average around the 50 to 70% range of completion I usually platinum 2 games a year. My question is what compels you to 100% a game and go the extra mile to do everything? Game mechanics? Art style? Developer?

Empiric Unicorn

Hey HanHillGarPod! Every morning I wake up to Vigil from Mass Effect, before that it was the save room music from Resident Evil (I'm a light sleeper). Do you use video game music for your alarm clock, and if so what's your favorite music to wake up to?

Crayter

Hey there folks, You ever flat out pick the wrong game? When ocarina of time came out, my friends mom brought us to the store to buy each of us a game for Xmas. He picked OOT and I picked.... Glover When I got my Xbox, everyone was buzzing about Halo, and I bought..... Azurik. Turns out, im not good at picking winners, how about you folks?

Matt Robinson

Hey cohorts! Simple question, Is Jurassic Park a horror movie? Had this discussion with a friend and I was on the side that it’s not. But after listening to his case, I think I can consider it a horror movie. And as an avid horror fan I can honestly say when I saw it in a theater as a kid it scared the ever loving Christ out of me, more so than a lot of “horror” movies. Are there any other movies you’d make a case for being a genre that it’s not considered to be?

Cody Hester

Dear MinnMax, does Google hate the things they sell? I usually listen to podcast type things while cleaning or doing other things, so I'm not watching what's happening on the screen. Recently, Google has started their new onslaught of terrible advertisements. This time I think they want you to get something to do with phones. The commercials are a variety of abnoxious people singing Google words without rhyme or melody. This may or may not be a step up from their Stadia ads, which sounded like someone shaking a toddler up and down repeatedly. Can you think of any worse advertisements? Thanks, keep on keepin' on!

Taylor Whitt

Aaaaaand TIME!! I did it. . I just finished the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, and I’ve been playing since the game released back in May (my time is limited OK). Having the trilogy as one seamless and cohesive experience makes all the difference for impactful characters and story, but man what a long game! As good as the experience was, I was ready to be done like 40 hours ago. This brings me to my question about this thing called gaming fatigue. it frustrates me that I found myself rushing through an otherwise beautiful game. As much as I loved Mass Effect, I got to a point where I just wanted to be done with it. Can we talk about this conundrum?? Is this fatigue a result of having limited time in my adult years, or is this seemingly high demand for new video games and content so pervasive now that I feel I need to quickly move from one game to the next?

Devin Cicinelli

Hello Cohorts! Since day one listener, first time writer. I like to think I can accomplish anything in video games if I practice or work hard enough, but I have a deep scar of inability that has haunted me my entire gaming life… In FFX you have to dodge 200 lightning bolts in a row on the path to Lulu’s ultimate weapon. I have tried this various times over my life but have never been able to accomplish it, sometimes coming as close as 190 dodges. Has anyone else come across something like this in their gaming experiences? What gaming hurdles have bested you? Bonus points if you have tried multiple times over a long period of time. Great show keep it up!

The Pattycake (Patrick H.)

Hi Cohorts! I think we all know what are some genre defining titles in gaming media: Mario, Metroid/Castlevania, Doom, and Dark Souls; but what are the defining titles in other mediums like movies and literature? Is Sleeping Beauty genre defining for animation, or The Godfather for crime drama? What about the Lord of the Rings defining the rules of Fantasy? Curious to know your all's thoughts!

Hugo Aguilar

Hey Cohorts, What’s something you thought you’d never grow out of? For me it’s anime, when I was in high school I was obsessed with it all and thought I’d never stop loving it. Well some 15 years later and I barely watch any anime.

young campari

Whats a weird fact that perplexes you so much that you can't stop thinking about it? I ask because I have not been able to get the knowledge that the Burj Khalifa is not hooked up to a sewer system and there's a line of trucks perpetually assembled in Dubai to deal with that out of my head since it was brought up during a "get a load of this" segment of the show. Its so stuck in my head that I brought it up as an ice breaker during a team meeting at work and it derailed the meeting for at least 15 minutes as everyone else was forced to grapple with this weird knowledge

Tanner Hoisington

With the announcement of the next Kirby game being a 3D platformer, existing rumors of a Donkey Kong 3D platformer, and recent releases like Kena and Psychonauts, do you think it's possible that we are seeing a gradual shift back to 3D platformers? Would that be something you'd want? I think a lot of people in their mid twenties like me have more nostalgia for them than 2D platformers/Metroidvanias
