Hey there Cohorts! Following up on last week's chores question (I'm also a dishes fan), I was wondering if anyone has any "podcast rituals." I vacuum my house every Sunday night after dinner, and will never start the new episode of MinnMax until I start vacuuming. Does anyone else have a podcast that they always listen to during the same activity or at the same time every week? Love the show!

Brady Easter

Okay, a few weeks ago you asked for fastballs. This has been kicking around in my head for a while so here we go. About a year ago, another podcast I listen to (that will remain nameless) went through some personnel changes and I was really not a fan. No one was doing or saying anything wrong, but the vibe and even some of the content changed because of the new people, and it just wasn't what I wanted anymore. And I wasn't sure what--if anything--I should do about that. I didn't want to stop supporting this group nor give up a podcast I had really been enjoying. I didn't want to call out the new people in a comments section just because it wasn't my preference. And I didn't want to keep consuming media that I wasn't enjoying as much anymore. So as a group of content creators who have gone through a handful of personnel changes (Welcome, Sarah, and congratulations!), how would you want listeners/viewers to constructively respond when they don't like new content or even a new person? (I want to reiterate that I am NOT talking about MinnMax here. You all are great.) Thanks!

Hey Minnmaxers, During the fall season it is a trend to play more spooky/horror type games. Every October I try to play titles like Luigis Mansion, MedEvil, Costume Quest, Resident Evil, OxenFree, and really any game that gives a spooky vibe! My question for the panel, is what games do you like to play for the winter season? For me I tend to play more cozy games like Animal Crossing, Mario games, or anything that feels low key and comfy. Do you play a specific type of game during the holiday season or do you tend to just crank out possible GOTY titles before the years end?

Hello Cohorts! News today (Tuesday) broke about how much more Bobby Kotick knew about the systemic abuse at AB, including his direct interventions to protect abusers. A recent show topic was the future of gaming. In 50 years, do you think the gaming industry will have safeguards in place to prevent abusers and their protectors from evading punishment, or will workers still be fighting to be treated properly? Thanks, Nick from Atlanta

Yo CLC's Back in 2017, I tried my hand at playing Ruiner, the top down cyberpunk shooter from Devolver. As much as I wanted to like the game, the mechanics didnt click for me, and I stopped playing. However, I continued to listen to the soundtrack, and still listen to the music from the game's composer, Zamilska, to this day. The same thing happened with me and Furi. I didn't click with the gameplay, but ended up buying the soundtrack. Do you listen to any soundtracks even though you didn't play, or stopped playing, the game entirely? Do you have a favorite artist that you listen to now that you discovered through a game soundtrack? Cheers

Tristan Kitahara

Hey MinnMax squad! I’m a huge fan of you guys and look forward to the pod each and every week! Keep crushing it! Some of my favorite games are often offshoots that deviate from the genre that they originate from. Some examples being: Final Fantasy Tactics Hyrule Warriors Metroid Prime My question for the crew: if you could will it into existence, what franchise would you manifest a game for, and what genre would it be? For me, it would have to be a Pokemon MMO. Thanks!

Jason Wojnar

What's the worst line or wait you've been in? I had to go to a clinic to pick up a covid vaccine certificate (something which you have to do separately where I live). I was waiting for about 4 and a half hours for a simple piece of paper that takes 5 minutes to print up. I could write a whole essay about what went on but people got borderline violent with each other. The whole experience made me lose my faith in humanity.

Justin Ray

What is your favorite game that you have no interest in ever playing again?

Eric Clyde

Hey Ben, I was the person who wrote in a few weeks ago about if they are called "button-up" or "button-down" shirts. Two weeks ago you were talking about VR or something you were talking about hipsters getting their brains melted or something like that, and you then said, "they will have to scoop up their brains off their button-up flannel shirts." Debate has been settled. thanks.

James Burkett

Hey CLCs GOTY discussions are coming up! My question for you all is: Will you be allowing spoiler talk for your 2 tens list this year? I personally don't mind spoiler talk when discussing a game you're personally passionate about and, honestly, you all will definitely not finish each others top contenders in time for the pod. To me the most interesting part of those end-of-year podcasts is the passionate discussion of the games that meant something to you rather than the arbitrary ranking. And some of these games I have no interest in but I would love to hear you all gush about them. Ben, tell me about the moments in Before Your Eyes! Sarah, is the dlc of the Outer Wilds REALLY that good?!

Christopher C. Castillo

Howdy, CLCs! I love going through all of the Game Awards categories every year, but this year I realized something. The description for the BEST INDIE category reads “For outstanding creative and technical achievement in a game made outside the traditional publisher system.” Yet four out of five of the nominees have publishers listed next to their studio names. Three from Devolver and one from Annapurna. Both publishers have showcase events and are well-known for their catalog of games. So my question is what is considered indie and what isn’t? Is it defined by budget? Team size? Creative freedom? Also, what is the “traditional publisher system”? Devolver is a publicly-traded company with multiple studios as subsidiaries. Meanwhile Twelve Minutes starred James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley, and Willem DeFoe which as I understand was made possible with the help of Annapurna Interactive. It’s a complicated category that will probably always be impossible to define, but I would love to hear your takes. What do you think? Am I overthinking this? Should they add another category for single and double A games? Would Star Citizen be considered an indie game since it was a kickstarter and is-self published by the studio? Thanks as always! Christopher C. Castillo

RickyWinterborn

do you have a way of mentally rating the urgency of games you should play in your backlog? i did about 10 hours of eastward on two plane rides and was really enjoying it, but now the holiday game dump has swamped my schedule and I feel like I'll never get back to it, even though I want to.

Bryan Tylec

I always hear people being insulted with the phrase Sony Pony but are there any insult phrases for any of the other systems? Do people ever call you a Nintendo Friend-o? Are there X-Jocks out there? What derogatory nickname would you guys pick for fans of a particular gaming system?

Sassy Little Imp

It’s usually a mild pleasure to discover that I share a favorite piece of art with an acquaintance, but when I meet someone else who loves the obscure anti-humor comic strip Jim’s Journal, I feel like I’ve met a new best friend. Is there any media that is so niche or personal to you that discovering a fellow fan in the wild immediately raises your estimation of them?

RynaGoGo

Hello Coward Ben and the Weasels, I once laughed so hard I broke a rib. A friend told me how he had a teacher in school named Mr. Ass. That’s it. That’s the whole story. At the time it was the funniest thing I’d ever heard. It didn’t heal correctly and sometimes pops if I laugh too hard. Tell me about when you laughed the hardest in your life. Thanks everyone! <3

Christian Jimenez

Hi, Out of all the new games this year, which one had the best logo/font. I love Metroid Dread but the Metroid part in the logo is ugly. I think Returnal had a nice clean and bold color choice that made it stand out. Thanks.

whitemex

Have you ever done anything cool only for no one to be around and see it happen? Like some quick reflexes to catch a falling object or maybe a once in a lifetime toss of garbage into the receptacle

Swiggity Swoo

How do you psych yourself up to do a stream/podcast?

Hello Ben and the Carhartts, I'm currently teaching a few college courses, and we meet once a week on Tuesday afternoons. If you were one of my students and I gave you an assignment, what would be your preferred due date & time? Should it be anytime before our next meeting (Tuesdays at 11:59am)? Maybe the night before (Monday at midnight). Maybe Sunday, get it done before the start of the week. What would you preference be? ...I just wanna be the cool teacher

Deep Space Trace

Battle Passes are in the news this week, so here’s my question: what’s the level 100 reward on the Battle Pass of Life? A million dollars? Salvation? The friends we made along the way? Makes you think…

Victor Garcia

Hi Everybody! I've been replaying my DS games in the past few weeks. Next up on my list is Lost in Blue. I never planned to buy the game, but once someone told me it was kind of like Harvest Moon, I was all in. It turned out to not be anything like Harvest Moon, but I still kind of enjoyed it even though I never made it off the island. What's the dumbest reason you bought a game that you originally had no intention of getting?

Ari

If you were a free sample, what would you be?

Howdy MinnMax Show, Got a question about the Back Log Hall of Fame legend Red Dead Redemption 2. I know it’s Jeff’s favorite. Its just too massive of a game. I think to myself sometimes “If I just play main quest lines and skip all side quest, maybe I could finish it.” Have any of y’all ever played an open world game this way? I know there would be something lost there, but maybe it wouldn’t be that bad. Love the Show.

Seangocongo

Hey MinnMax Crew! Have you ever enjoyed a game so much that you were preemptively sad about it ending well before reaching finish line? I’m about halfway through SMT 5 and already anticipating how much less I’m going to enjoy the next game I play after it. I’m thoroughly enjoying my time with SMT 5, but it seems like games like this are fewer and farther between these days, making me hyper aware of how few games can really suck me in like this one has. Love the show!

MarriottPlayer

Hello Cohorts, Jank is often seen as a negative in games, but I tend to love it, especially in the GTA series. What’s your take on jank? If it doesn’t ruin or break the game, is it alright? Is it actually better when it DOES break the game? Or is just a lil’ jank enough? Thanks for all that you do!

young campari

Hi Folks Lots of things in games right now feel disappointing. The Game Award nominees across categories were a let down. The lack of care in the GTA Definitive Edition was sad to see. The on-going saga with Activision Blizzard is mind-bogglingly disheartening. With all that said, what's something positive going on right now to keep you excited about gaming and what's something everyone can do to make games and the gaming community better?

ProcyonNumber6

What game has the best credits? Honorable mention to Deathloop

Hey everyone! As a slow-sleeper, one night I spent my 30-45 minutes thinking about how the "sleep" status ailment is so much easier to inflict in video games than in real life. This might be a little dark, but here's a thought exercise, try ranking these status ailments by how difficult they would be to inflict on someone in real life: Sleep Poison Burn Confusion Paralysis Frozen Mute Blind Charm Slow Haste To assess the difficulty, think about the objects you would have to find/use and the time it would take to achieve it.

Aaron U

Hello all. Does the thought of whether or not you think you'll finish a game factor into your decision to play it? With so many games out there, I often find that to be a deciding factor in what I choose to play.

Matthew Weatherley

G'day Minnmaxeroos Has a game ever caused you to research something to help you find a solution in a game. When I was little I was playing through Links Awakening and there was a clue that mentioned an alcove. My little brain had no idea what an alcove was. So I grabbed a dictionary and looked it up. " a recess in a wall of a room". The hint helped me solve the puzzle straight away. Can any of you remeber a moment like this.

Moya

Imagine you are assigned the task to come up with localized names for the original 151 Pokémon. Almost missing the deadline, you finally find the perfect name for pokemon #25 - a chubby rodent with electrical powers. Unfortunately you send your boss the wrong file - a backup you made the day before, still containing the original japanese name. "Whatever", you think. "Only a few kids will play this strange game, anyway". Years later, everytime you hear someone calling him "Pikachu", you yell: "That is not his REAL name!!!" What is Pikachu's REAL name?

Jeremy McPhail

I used Leo's video "Products: Now for Men" in my journalism class for a debate on gender inequality vs. school traditions like the powderpuff football games. Can you people in the biz help me think of other topics for the students to debate or subjects to be covered in journalism? I could look up stuff on Google, but that's boring.

Jordan Shaffer

Hello everyone! The game awards have me thinking…if someone asked you what was the game of the year in, say, 2019, what would you tell them? Would you name your personal game of the year from that year? The game award winner for best game? Whatever was #1 on the two tens? The game that won the most awards from different press outlets? I feel like Geoff Keighly wants the game award winner to be the go to response to that question much like the oscar for best picture is in film, but is that how you think about past games of the year, or do you still think about it another way?

PoorAndCurly

Hey Cohorts, When was the last time you took a vacation and where did you go? I'm curious about your answer Ben, do you even sleep? (Appreciate all the hard work you do with MinnMax!)

Zane Dukes

How Have y'all found the difficulty curve in Forza horizon 5? I've been moved up to the pro setting, and my racing game experience is basically Mario kart 8. I was hoping it would be more difficult and not rely on rubber banding ai.

Pelicanman

With resolution and frame rate, the traditional focuses in graphics, seeming to have hit something of a plateau this generation, where would you like to see gaming tech go next? Personally; I’d love to see more interactive/destructible environments, which developers have increasingly gotten away from in recent years.

Ian Switaj

Hello MinnMaxxers! With the end of the year quickly approaching and as I get older in general, I realize that I don't have nearly enough time to balance newer releases and going back to old classics that I missed. And I'm sure you all have to make tough choices as to when to stop playing a game and thus never finish them. A lot of games offer an easy mode for people who may only be interested in a games narrative (ex. The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles and the Safe difficulty in Persona 5 and SMT 5) and would certainly help gamers finish games quicker. My question(s) for you: for games that you know you like but may or may not have time to play through to completion, would you rather play them on an easier difficult setting to get to the end or stick to your preferred difficulty and not finish the game at all? How would you go about making such a decision?

PhillyYeetSteak

Hello crew and hello again Wade! Its the time of the year again where i am having to put together my holiday wishlist to give to family members. Every year, i struggle to think of much to put on that is gaming related, partially because i prefer things digitally and also because i tend to buy myself the games i *really* want. Anyone else have trouble giving family members ideas of gaming gifts?

Kyle Silva

Hello Ben, Cohorts and Wade. I have come across a terrible, horrific event recently. As most of you know, Ben has been mentioning this sentient being known as the “Turkatron” in recent weeks of the MinnMax Show. Since then, I’ve been thinking about this “Turkatron” to disturbing lengths. It haunts me in my dreams and consumes my thoughts as though they are part of some messed up Thanksgiving platter. I cannot work, sleep, or listen to podcasts without having this electronic turkey cast its shadow over my head. Since you Ben and cohorts have unleashed this spectre upon me, I ask of you to end my suffering and perform the call of the Turkatron, whatever you deem of it to be. I’m confident one of you can interpret the Turkatron impression accurately (my money is on Sarah), but please without further ado, emulate the cry of the fabled Turkatron. (Feel free to skip the backstory and just get to the Turkatron impressions.)

Shipwright

Hey Cohorts! I’ve been doing a lot of thinking on “Love Languages” lately, basically the different ways people give and receive love. It had me thinking, what are some of your gaming love languages? Aspects/characteristics of a game that instantly will connect you with a game above others. For example one of mine is the soundtrack, if the game has a soundtrack I really like it will instantly connect with me more even if the gameplay is nothing to write home about. If that question was too confusing here’s another: Sarah top 5 horses in gaming go! Thanks love the show!

Preston Determan

Hey Everyone, with the big Xbox Anniversary this past Monday I was thinking about the good old original Xbox. There are a lot of good memories tied up in Halo parties. Do you remember how that Halo disc came with demos of other games? I think a good argument could be made that my friend group spent as much time playing that demo of Fusion Frenzy as we did actually playing Halo 1. I don’t think any of us actually ever bought the game though. Do you guys have any new thoughts on the original Xbox now that we are two decades from release?

Jake Z

Has someone ever convinced you to like a piece of art you didn't like by explaining why it was good?

Fenrir

Imagine, if you would, this scenario: You have been granted one (1) Gamer Wish™ to have the time to play one (1) title from your 2021 backlog you otherwise wouldn't have gotten to this year. What is that game and why?

Hootz

The nominees for the Game Awards have been announced! Of course there are tons of categories to make up for this, but it felt like there were a few missed opportunities on the titular "Game of the Year" award this year. If you could add a nominee to the current list, what would it be? And, if you can legally tell us on the podcast, which of the original 6 are you gonna vote for? (Here are the current nominees, for your convenience) Deathloop It Takes Two Metroid Dread Psychonauts 2 Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart Resident Evil Village

The Pattycake (Patrick H.)

Hey MinnMax Crew! Can you come up with the craziest game concepts for a popular IP? "Dragon Ball: The Breakers" is insane to me, placing the Dragon Ball franchise in the mold of games like Dead By Daylight. How weird must it have been when Mario, the jump-man plumber, first raced go-karts in Mario kart?? Here's a few ideas I've come up with: (1) Spider-Man pizza delivery styled after Crazy Taxi; (2) Yogi Bear the Picnic Basket Thief, a stealth action game where you play as Yogi tasked with stealing lunches from innocent hikers; (3) Star Wars dancing game (oh wait...). Any crazy idea y'all can come up with?

Adam3

Since the games inception in the early 1940’s, has there ever been a day, I’m talking one single day, without someone getting a Yahtzee?? Got into this discussion with friends recently and they insisted days have gone by without a Yahtzee. For reference, studies show there is nearly a 50% chance of getting a Yahtzee in any single game, and there are like 7 billion people on earth. We were counting knock off versions of the game as well. So, has a day without a Yahtzee (what a terrible world to live in) gone by or not? Thanks guys!!

SenttheProphet

Hi MinnMax! Which Main character in a game, if they became sentient, would hunt down the developers that made them?

Jonathan Fenn

Hey MinnMax, what game has the best final moments - not the whole ending, the literal final seconds before credits hit (inspired by The Order 1886)

Darkwing Drew

Hey Ben and crew! I just wanted to thank you all for putting together Trivia Tower, one of the best things on the internet! Here's my question. If Trivia Tower was to be made into a Jackbox game, which trivia segments would you all like to see in there, and why?
