Hey Benn and Friennds, What's your favorite entry in a series that doesn't feature the main character?

Aaron U

Hello Cohorts! How do you feel when a game kills your character at the end after you've spent so many hours keeping them alive? Does it bum you out? Are you cool with it if it makes sense for the story?

Troy Ellison

Hey CLCs, with another Keighley,s come and gone I thought I'd ask, what makes a good/bad awards show category?

Taylor C

How do you navigate the discussion of what your job is during the holidays? Do you have to over explain it? Does grandma understand what you do? Does your uncle think you spend your days in a dark room alone?

Josh64

HIYA CLCs! If you could put anything up on a billboard for 3 months fully knowing thousands of people will see it as they drive by, what would you put up? I always thought it would be funny if I bought up ad space just to have a picture of myself giving a thumbs up to a highway.

John Richards

After last years fierce debate over GOTY protocol, and 12 months of reflection, I’m curious if anyone is going to fight for Cyberpunk to make this year’s 2-10’s.

Terry Pierson

We hear a lot about precious Christmas gaming memories, but do you have any bad ones? Perhaps a game you were looking forward to that was a disappointment or a controller hog cousin? Happy Holidays!

John Scovic

Hey y'all, submitting this question before the awards is hard but I'll do my best to make some predictions. That Starfield gameplay was cool but I still can't tell what the game is, Mortal Kombat 12 looks great but the internet just sees it as an expansion for 11, and Breath of the Wild 2 is a boring, but expected title for the sequel. Anyway, what's the most impressive thing you've ever correctly predicted? I predicted that the Avengers sequel would be called Endgame the night Infinity War came out. Bye!

Mike Lynch

Hey y'all! What is the strangest or silliest thing you believed when you were a child and dumb? **When I was 5, an older kid told me that 6 year olds can die from a strange illness. So 1984 was a great year for me. 😄**

Hootz

Hi everybody! The past three years I've been keeping track of the games I play on a yearly basis, so that I can more formally determine my own game of the year when it comes time to do so. However, I'm a very patient and cost-savvy gamer. This year I decided not to exclude games that came out in years prior, as long as this year was the first time I got to play them. So Hootz's 2021 game of the year is... God of War! (On the OG PS4 my neighbor tossed over the fence!) Anyway, are there any "old" games you played this year that you wish came out in 2021 so you can talk about them at the end of the year? Thanks for all the great content you guys put out this year!

Chree McGee

Hey Y'all! Looking at Grand Theft Auto: The Definitive Edition, players seem to be split on the gameplay jank being largely unchanged- some view it as a lazy cash grab by Rockstar and some find said jank hilarious and endearing. What's a notoriously janky game that you would prefer receiving a facelift rather than the full remake treatment?

Zephyr

With awards season around again, we get another chance to squint confusedly at the categories they choose to lump things into. How much grass does it take to turn an "Action" game into an "Action/Adventure". How many numbers can you have in the menus before you become an "RPG"? How good does your golf swing meter need to be to beat out a game about racing a military jet with a Ferrari? Why is my farming simulator game going up against XCOM2? And other stupid questions. If Kiely emailed MinnMax and said you have to help him create the awards categories in the next five minutes, how would you guys organize things better?

Victor Pham

Is Halo Infinite going to be overshadowed at the Game Awards next year with all of the major releases set for 2022?

P4R4D15E 1NC.

Hey cohorts! First time asking a question. Love the show! In wake of the holiday season. What are some of your favorite holiday themed/levels from your past? And if you can’t think of any specifically. What are your favorite games to return to around the festive season. My wife and I have a tradition to play through Super Mario 3 the past few years and it warms my heart to make such great memories with her playing my favorite game. Seasons greeting! -Darrell and Betsy Croteau

Michael Moran

Would you rather go the rest of your life without injuries or without traffic?

Adam Cohen

Hello Christmas Loving Cohorts and/or Chanukah Loving Cohorts! A lot has been made about all the scalpers preventing people from buying next gen systems (and rightfully so) but what I think isn't getting talked about enough is that retailers are taking advantage of the situation. Best Buy often requires a $200 "Total Tech Membership" to buy PS5s, Walmart often requires a premium membership to buy, and GameStop sells almost exclusively in bundles, which makes you buy games, an extra controller, and a headset. Seems pretty crappy to me. Thoughts?

Christian Jimenez

Hello, If you could add an award to the Game Awards what would you add? I would add one called Best Performance meaning which game launched in a near perfect condition and not a technical or feature missing mess. Enjoy the holidays!!

Christopher C. Castillo

Howdy, MinnMax! Every year for over half a decade, I've been telling my friends that this is the year that they announce Ken Levine's next game at the Game Awards. I also never miss the opportunity to claim how it has to be the year that they announce the next Bioshock. So far I'm 0 for 6. This year though, I'm feeling extra confident. I'm even gonna break the seal on a promotional Bioshock shirt that I've been saving for just such an occasion. I really hope this is the year! What about you? Is there a game you've been sure is going to be announced but then isn't year after year? Thanks, Christopher C. Castillo P.S. It's been 8 years since Ken's last game and we haven't even seen a logo or teaser yet. That's crazy right? It's not just me? P.P.S. Y'all are the best! Thanks for the great shows and your time for reading this!

Nick from Atlanta

Hello MinnMax! Video games as an art form is still very young compared to well, pretty much everything else, but it's well on its way to being more widely recognized and accepted for its value. I imagine there will come a day soonwhen video games are as consistently lauded as things like paintings or film. When this day comes, and a new art form that we might not even be able to conceive with current technology arises, do you think the games industry will be more, equally, or less accepting of this new form than other art forms are of video gaming now? Thanks, Nick from Atlanta

Joe Kafchinski

Halo 5 was hammered for removing local co-op. Now Halo Infinite is launching with no co-op of any kind for at least six months and the response seems like a collective "meh." What's the deal here? Is co-op dead? Are people just so happy to get a decent Halo that they aren't going to look a gift horse in the mouth? Do any of you see yourselves actually going back to the game six months from now to play through it in co-op?

Joe McMartin

Who do you think is an American National Treasure? I weirdly keep a list. (Dolly Parton, Tony Hawk, Keanu Reeves, Danny Devito)

AveryS

Hello Ben-jammin and his CLCs. This question was inspired by Ben's Sunset Riders video on the Minnmax YouTube channel. Do you have a favorite arcade game from your childhood? If so, have you gone to any lengths to play it again? Mine was a Mech fighting game called Virtual On. I hope some day to be able to afford to recreate the cabinet for my home. Thanks for everything you all do!

CptCobblePot

Greetings Minnmaxers! Who are your top 2 favorite Final Fantasy characters and why? For me it has to be a tie between, VII Vincent, VII Cid and Squall from VIII.

Jeorin

Howdy Horse Girls and House Hunters! It's finally happening! They're releasing your dream game! The game you've been waiting your whole life to play! Unfortunately, they're funding it by loading it chock full of NFTs. Every single skin, weapon, map, quest, etc. is an NFT! Would you still be able to buy it, even though you'd be supporting greedy, planet murdering, corporate monsters?

AnAttackCorgi

The last TV show you watched has a crossover episode with the last videogame you played. Mine would be Red Dead Redemption 2 crossed over with Modern Family and I'm honestly sold.

Fatt Mish

Hi Ben and frenns! What distracts you more from focusing on a task? Hunger or being really cold?

Jeremy McPhail

Hey BaBaBaBa Benny and the cohorts - I recently had a student in 8th grade say they didn't know who John Lennon was and when told he was from The Beatles - she didn't know them either. This nearly killed me. Which video game would you put on the "to never be forgotten in history" list?

Jason Wojnar

Have you ever deleted a game from your hard drive because you play it too much? I'm on the verge of doing this with Tony Hawk. At the end of a night I say to myself "let me do a simple 2-minute session" and then it turns into an hour of me trying to top one of my high scores.

Tokyo Game Life

Minnmax, I recently ate stollen, a German Christmas cake, for the first time in my life. What was the last food you tried for the first time, and what did you think?

Andrew Molnar

Hello co-op Cohorts! Growing up, my neighbor and best friend owned a Sega Genesis. Some of my best childhood memories are of playing games like Golden Axe, Mickey Mouse World of Illusion, and Sonic co-op together. What are some of your favorite formative co-op gaming experiences? Thanks!

DJ Tommy Pizza

Hey cohorts! What video game holiday/celebration do you enjoy the most? I always love visiting Pokemon centers on my birthday to get that special message, and I also load up MGSV every year to hear Mother Base sing ‘happy birthday’. I also fondly remember setting reminders to load Arkham City and visit Calendar Man to get the hidden achievement. Anyone else have a favorite video game holiday tradition?

bizkiut (Nick S.)

Alright gang, it's that time of year. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Personally, it's sitting in the living room with nothing but the decorative lights on while watching Elf or some other classic holiday movie or playing a nice, cozy game like Animal Crossing.

Grizzled Gaming

I missed the last call for questions in 2020, so now seems like the perfect time for the 2nd Not-Quite-Annual MinnMax Ho-Ho-Ho Down. I'd like everyone's heartiest "HO-HO-HO!" to help people get into the spirit. 'Tis the season, right?! P.S. I hope someone can really give Ben a run for his money this year! Ben: Here’s the original Ho-Ho-Ho Down footage if you need a refresher https://youtu.be/PVv1D4ChESs?t=11408 or a brief 1-minute recap I made after the fact https://youtu.be/LsWobaw_zOY

Bob Buel

Howdy Ben and the real estate moguls, What are your thoughts on traditions? The older I get, the more I just want to do things differently, and I find myself wanting to break away from traditions of the past. Like even for Christmas, my family doesn’t even do presents anymore - we each choose a weekend in December and take out the whole family to dinner anywhere they want and call that the gift to everyone. Even with video games, games that I used to buy religiously every year like a Call of Duty I find myself passing on due to the repetition just not quite being the same anymore. So long story short, do you have any favorite out of the ordinary traditions or find yourself being a cool rebel who bucks the trend? Thanks Bob

PoorAndCurly

One year is erased from history along with all the games that came out in it. Which do you erase: 2001, 2004, 2007, 2013, or 2017?

RiskyChrisP

Happy holidays, Cohorts! In the spirit of spending lots of money this time of year, what’s your favorite ad of all time?

Mason Cowell

Happy holidays Minnmaxers! Simple question today. What, in your opinion is the best controlling/most satisfying vehicle to control in games? Hands down I would say the Seamoth (tiny sub) in Subnautica. I will load up my finished save file just to glide and spin along the ocean floor several times a year. What about you all?

Taylor Clark

Hey HLC’s (holiday loving cohorts) as everyone reflects back on this year what was your favorite trend that emerged this year in gaming? Mine was seemingly every game studio saying screw it well patch it later and releasing broken games! Just kidding however i did love the stream of fantastic indie games that really saved this year.

Muffyn Crumbs

Hey Ben&Co, With Halo Infinite coming out this week, I've got a question for you: what is the most iconic Halo weapon? Is it the OG, the assault rifle? Is it one of the greatest melee weapons of all time, the energy sword? Is it the unexpectedly OP pistol from Halo: CE? Or is it something else? Happy Halo-days!

Andrew Burnes

I've really enjoyed the documentary content that MinnMax has put out. I also finally watched that Psychonauts documentary from Two Player Productions Hanson has been evangelizing for years and it really is fantastic. As fellow connoisseurs of documentaries, what separates that great from the average?

Starkiller

Hey MinnMaxmas-ers, just a straightforward question for this holiday season: what was your most memorable Christmas (good, bad, or ugly)?

Giovanni D'Amico

Hey guys - I've been meaning to write in about this for weeks, but I keep forgetting and missing the cutoff, so here goes. In the Oct. 28 episode of the MinnMax Show, during responses to a Community Question regarding whether there has been a more impactful game than GTA3 in the last 20 years, at the 1:17:16 mark, Kyle Hilliard CLEARLY (and accidentally) says the word "Fartnite." No one reacted at the time and no one has commented on it since, but this special moment deserves its shine, and I'm here to highlight it. Thank you for your service and Happy Holidays.

Joshua

Hey Everyone, Crazy how Returnal won game of the year without even being nominated! Annnyway, I grew up on celery with cream cheese, it wasn't until a long time where I realized most if not all other people used peanut butter. Do you guys have any food staples that you thought to be the norm, but actually weird? Happy Holidays!

Pablo Castillo

So this weekend I finally got around to playing the board game, Just One which released in 2018. By coincidence, I also got around to playing God of War 2018 a few months back. Apples and Oranges be damned! Which of these 2018 juggernauts is the better game?

JeffM's Backlog

Year after year the Game Awards seems to veer further from an Awards Show and closer to an E3 style Showcase of upcoming games. This year was no exception and they didn't even have the quality game announces to back it up. It felt like 50% of the night was a video updating us on the status of some live service game, and maybe 20% was actually what I would call "celebrating 2021." As someone that thinks there are plenty of showcases throughout the year and not enough shows celebrating the year in games I'm annoyed by this trend. What's your ideal mix for the Game Awards?

Holden Hintz

Mint Maxers, In a weird year of games, It Takes Two wins game of the year. The last two times there were no clear front runners were 2014 and 2019; with Dragon Age Inquisition and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, respectively. Nowadays people regard Dragon Age as a mistake, not deserving of its win, while in contrast Sekiro is looked back on more fondly because of its win and has elevated its status. Which of these two futures do you predict It Takes Two will fall into?

SenttheProphet

Hi MinnMax, Will there a game awards show in 2033? Is it here to stay? The rank of celebrities, the sponsor deals, the almost 4 hour run time, is this officially the Oscar of video games?

MickManga

Dear MinnMax, How about a fun game. On the count of three I would like all of you to predict the next Nintendo system's name.

Abigail Warner

How would you improve the game awards going forward? There is a lot I would change but one suggestion would be having the presenters be from games that released this year as a way to showcase their games further or at all. I envision it as a clip playing while they walk out of their contribution to the game like something they modeled, some highlighted sound design, a slow pan over the script they helped make. Something to show (don’t tell) that the people making these games are truly appreciated.

micspam

So...The Game Awards was Bad right? Between the length, the pace, Jeff using an anti-cyberbullying hotline to (not) talk about AVBI, the lack of awards, and the mishmash of AA-Tier at best trailers(why we actualy watch), I genuinely regret watching. In fact if you guys weren't steaming I don't think I would have. Am I missing something? Did you guys enjoy the show? If it wasn't your job would you watch next year? Sorry for being so negative, but if Jeff wants us to treat this as a Big Deal I think it should be judged as such.
