It's Hugo's Nook

As much as the story was rather rote, I do appreciate the inversion of expectations for the characters. Albeit stern, Cyllene helps the player at the end even though her descendant is the lead of the evil team galatic, while Kamado gets in your way despite being the ancestor of the helpful professor Rowan. Not to mention the Cynthia double whammy with Cogita and Volo. Did you think they used these parallels well?

I have loved this game for all 50+ (!) hours I have played but collecting the wisps and waiting for distortions to appear have been the down moments for me. On the other hand, I was way too happy for a munchlax outbreak and finally catching togetic and togekiss after wasting many jet balls.

Spencer Botine

The further I advanced in this game, the more overwhelmed I became by all the systems/checklists. I have all of these items piling up that I have no clue what to do with, too many crafting recipes that all seem to do the same thing, too many Pokémon to try and complete Pokédex tasks for, too many side quests, 18 different types of Poke-balls to throw…could this have been consolidated even a little bit?!

Joshua Caleb

who else has turned this into a Poke-Gear Solid? I've collected a team of high-level Alpha Pokemon that can so far one-shot almost any Pokemon I encounter. So I've been exclusively stealth-catching the pokemon I encounter; running away or one-shotting if I'm spotted. It's actually kind of a fun way to play.

Hammer parsa

Hay . I never played any pokemon game and it’s just not for me .but I listen to all these deepest dives so i’m just gonna leave this comment here so I can please be part of this . It’s all i have :)) thank you

David Dillinger (yojimbodjd)

This is my first complete play through of a Pokémon game. It’s been fun and look forward doing more in the post game. Please, just no more potato mochi!

CptCobblePot

What DLC would you like to see? For me, Stark Mountain area.

Stephen Woodson

I want to shout out the ability to press R3 to instantly hide all HUD. (Although you have to first enable it in settings.) It even hides when Pokemon are aggro at you, and hides the cursor for throwing pokeballs. It's one minor thing that I feel this game is pushing the boundaries on, and I'd love to see it in other games.

Barney

I'm curious to know how first time Pokemon players felt about this game? This was my first pokemon game. It was enjoyable at first, but it struggled to keep my interest beyond the second area. I just didn't care enough to catch them all. I'm sorry.

Kevin Kuper

My absolute favorite thing is that pokemon that you would normally have to trade to evolve now just need a linking cord which is such a great call back to the original games.

Chuck Emmett

Is everyone trying to catch all the Pokémon to get Arceus? I am almost there but when I looked up how to get Spiritomb since I had no luck finding them, and learned you had to collect all the wisps, I'm probably not going to bother. That said, I loved the game overall and cannot wait for any DLC/Follow ups. This is the experience I've always wanted from Pokémon.

Chuck Emmett

Also! Who ended up on your postgame team? Did you keep the team you had used most of the game or switch them out for the Legendary Pokemon you catch?

Erin T.

Did the whole “Pokémon are a terrifying mystery” thing fall flat for anyone else? Plenty of people know their favorite foods, their evolutions, there’s extensive medical knowledge about Pokemon, there are 10 different kinds of pokeballs, and they can even create candy that makes them level up. Other people in the region live side by side with Pokémon with seemingly no issue. So what’s the deal with these villagers?

Kees ('Case') Mulder

Love this game! It's a pity that not all evolutions can be found out from information within the game. From the friendship mechanic which we are just supposed to know from previous games, to downright silly things like giving Ursaring a peat block during midnight, or using Strong-style Barb Barrage 20 (!) times for Quilfish, I don't know how they expect you to figure these things out without googling. They could be cool puzzles within the game, but now it just feels cheap to look it up.

Groovydude

Not a fan of the new battle system. I've dipped my toe in to competitive pokemon, so I have a very good grasp of the mechanics of the games normally and in this game the battles are just all over the place. The Agile Style/Strong Style system feels totally half-baked, and even if it was finished I'm not sure I would like it.

Groovydude

I miss the more traditional focus on trainer battles. It doesn't have to be gyms and badges - something like an Assassin's Creed-esque story where you are taking out the lieutenants of Team Rocket and you worked your way up their chain of command. The Lord Battles could be saved for Legendary Pokemon encounters.

Groovydude

I love this game. GameFreak changed up the formula in SO many ways. I love the new Pokedex. I love seeing Pokemon in the open world. I love seeing humans being terrified of Pokemon at first. There is so much good that it is easy to gloss over the negatives.

Groovydude

I named my Alpha Snorlax Big Meech and she is an absolute unit.

Groovydude

Why can't we sort our Pastures? Would be a HUGE quality of life improvement if we could sort them like we can with our inventory. Would make it so easy to know if its safe to release a pokemon. Also checking Pokedex while looking at Pastures. And checking Pokedex while in battle.

Hootz

Whatd you guys think of horse-palkia? (Or horse-dialga?) Hilarious or terrifying?

Luke Strain

I love catching Alpha Pokemon. Every time I saw one I got excited, and catching one without a battle feels amazing. They adds so much spice to exploration.

Johnny Magrippis

What’s the first thing you did after you tamed a God, and why was it to have it shake down some apricots? — The implementations are 15 years behind, but I enjoyed all changes they went for and I hope they stick towards that direction. A Chansey will come to fake heal you if you’re hurt falling from the sky near it! More behaviour variety like that, thank you! From the “mainline games”, I do wish they found a way to make you “bond” with your Pokémon team more. It feels like this game is more fun the **less** you use your team! Sneaking up on Alphas, or Monster Hunting them to stun then capture, is more fun for me & rewarding than battling them!

Jared Natsis

This is the best Pokemon game I've played in well over a decade, but that is entirely in spite of the battle system. It's great that battles are integrated smoothly into the world, but I think the battle system itself in this game is downright bad. I can never manipulate the turn order the way I want to, you can send in Pokemon and have them die before you even get a chance to act, XP doesn't tally until after all Pokemon are defeated...it's not good. Most times I was KO'd my reaction was more "Come on, seriously?" than "All right, you got me." That said, I got charged from offscreen and tackled off of a cliff by a Machop because I was trying to catch his alpha brother, 10/10 best game ever

Tim Lorow

I was halfway through the game until I realized that you can see the type effectiveness of any move on the battle menu! So useful!

ShaggyVonDoom

I wonder if GameFreak and Pokemon Company anticipated this kind of reaction out of Pokémon Legends. You would think with this overwhelming response of “I don’t know how I go back to the old games” if they are now stuck to this new formula and I wonder if this also in hindsight makes the last remakes even more quickly forgotten

RickyWinterborn

maybe it's because i've barely touched a pokemon game in the last 10 years, but i'm pretty blown away by arceus. for me the pokemon actually roaming in the world and having attacks that effect you and make them formidable enemies is a massive game changer. i'm consistently excited about exploring new areas but also get a similar fear of alpha pokemon that i would in dark souls? am I nuts!? TM hanson. also the lacking graphics are a PERFECT setup for a Pokemon Astonishing Arceus sequel on a switch pro in a year or two...

Johnny M

I just finished the 3rd big boss fight and haven't actually died yet. Is it just me, or is the action part of the combat pretty trivial and not really that engaging? I keep coming back to the game for the exploration, and that feeling of finding a new pokemon hidden somewhere, but I still wish combat was a little bit more interesting. Maybe something that can be iterated on with a sequel!

Mason Cowell

One of the best things in the game is that you can give the alpha pokemon to villagers for quests. One woman wanted a Parasect, but I don't think she expected the house-sized zombie crab that she got. I go into her house every now and then and cackle to myself. 10 out of 10 game.

Gavin C

Hey minnmax crew, I recently discovered you guys from your ff7 remake deepest dive and have been enjoying listening to the other ones as well. Whenever I start a new pokemon game I try to choose pokemon for my main team that I haven't used before but there are always a few I can't resist. Arcanine is my favourite pokemon and since it had a new form I justified training one up but I also had machamp in my team for the 5th time because it's awesome. Are there any pokemon that you guys just HAVE to put in your team every time you see one?

Shawn Mills

I was disappointed my favorite Pokemon Ditto wasn't in the game. I think it would have been cool to have a Pokemon Go style mechanic where there is a chance that certain pokemon you catch can be Ditto in disguise. I'm also really surprised that the three original starters aren't in the game at all. It would have been amazing to see an alpha Charizard walking around.

Jacob Shoemake

I just wanted to comment and say you gotta give it up to GameFreak for making such a fun and addicting gameplay loop. I've played 30 hours, have 7 stars, and still haven't even fought the second Noble Pokémon yet. Props to everyone who has finished already, I'll come back to listen to this episode but it might be a while lol.

Chris Gillar

A few short questions: 1. Are you actually training/leveling up your Pokémon? I found catching alphas and using them exclusively to be a more efficient strategy. 2. Do you think they need to tweak damage/typing effectiveness? Battles seem to result in one-hit KOs and I’ve found it much harder than in previous games to do just enough damage to catch wild Pokémon. 3. Is there any good search or sort functionality for the Poké Pastures? I really hate playing “find the non-grayscale Pokémon, across 18 boxes” 4. Who is your favorite and least-favorite character? It’s Ingo and Melli for me.

Divorced Cougar (Mike M)

Anyone call Volo as the big bad from the beginning? That guy seemed off from the jump.

Jimbotron

I’d love to hear about the panel’s teams and whether you all stuck with 6 that mostly worked, or if you were constantly swapping. I mostly stuck with the same 6 once I had a good team (samurott, alpha nine tails, alpha machamp, raichu, roseleade and alpha drapion). Still working my way through the alabaster icelands. The gameplay loop is incredible, and I’m finding myself finally addicted to “catching them all” as opposed to previous Pokémon games, but there are definitely tweaks I hope they make in future installments (inability to sort Pokémon in the pastures drives me bonkers). Easily my favorite Pokémon game ever!

micspam

While there are hours worth of references in this game that could be talked about somewhere else, I want to note the one that stands out to me. Playing the Azure flute, to get the staircase on top of Mt. Coronet has been a decade in the waiting for western pokemon fans (assuming you didn't hack). Fighting Arceus was a genuinely emotional moment, and to me was the perfect reward for finishing the Caught Dex.

The Sleepy MailMan

The best side quest is “The Sea’s Legend”, where you need to read a book of the same name in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl to learn how to make Manaphy appear. The book even mentioned the then non-existent Overquil as “a Quilfish with large spikes”.

Nick from Atlanta

At the top of Mt Coronet is the Temple of Sinnoh, which includes tributes to the Ten Pokémon of the ancient hero. These are the 5 mounts and 5 Nobles we've met throughout the game. Yet for some reason, Hisuian Electrode is on the left with the other mounts, and Sneasler is on the right with the other Nobles. I guess it's all destroyed by Palkia/Dialga appearing, but it still bothered me.

DJ Tommy Pizza

In my opinion, only second to the story, the biggest flaw is the UI. I'm currently 45 hours into this game, already beat Volo, and I'm still mixing up which buttons open the map, the satchel, the pokedex, or switching between items/Pokemon in the overworld. Sometimes the triggers cycle through your options, other times it's the shoulder buttons. Select opens the map, but then is 'zoom out' & you have to hit B to close it. The inconsistency I think stems from a lack of a proper pause button & really hinders this game. -- DJ Tommy Pizza

Jeorin

Not even close to beating the game yet, but I have to say they did the mount system right. Being able to not only swap on the fly manually, but having the game auto transition your mounts between water and land is just fantastic. Throwing Pokeballs from the back of that giant fish is a great feeling, too.

PoorAndCurly

Is anyone else disappointed with Basculegion and water travel? The water is just flat and the strategy of hiding from pokemon is just gone, making it really hard to catch the skiddish pokemon. It just turns into fighting all the water pokemon. Love the game but there are lots of little things like this that feel really underbaked.

Clemens Zobel

Pearl/Diamond Pokedex says Spiritomb was bound to an Odd Keystone 500 years ago by a traveler. Vessa, the girl who has you collect the wisps, references this traveler so maybe Legends Arceus takes places less than 500 years ago? If that's the case, some of the changes to the region seem pretty intense in that short time scale, like Hisuian variants disappearing.

SunniDee22

How they return Pokémon into the pokeball by reaching for the satchel and hearing that click is incredibly satisfying. The remixed Cynthia/Volo theme is a banger and I loved that battle with it being back to back to back.

sleepless1123

This is my first Pokemon game since Leaf Green on the GameBoy Advance and I've been enjoying it thus far! But I gotta say, when Kamado banished me from the village and the Galaxy Team, I was extremely salty. I risked my life and labored for this man and this organization and he has the audacity to hurl baseless accusations and then order me to “restore our world to its rightful state?” Followed by Beni the potato mochi man transforming into a ninja and trying to kill us. This whole sequence of events was strange and off-putting to me, especially the way it just resolves as if their actions weren't severe.

Joebeezer

So how bout that Arceus fight? It was the first overworld fight that made me sweat. The reward for beating it is an Arceus and a tablet that grants Arceus the ability to switch to an advantageous typing - mid-battle!

Mason Cowell

Ben loves his specific comments so here we go. When you find zerora in the ice caves, it's eyes have a super cool glow when you're far away, and disappears as you get close. Also, seeing the alpha's eyes glowing red even through the inventory screen is incredibly intimidating.

Bob Buel

The Origin Ball, the red crystalline pokeball used to catch either Palkia or Dialga, is often being compared to an original master ball. But for me, it actually looks almost identical to a “Cherish Ball” which is an unobtainable pokeball in the modern series that your event only Pokémon come contained in. It would make sense that those extra rare event only Pokémon need to be contained in something special, and a version of this Original ball seems to be it.

Mason Cowell

This game uniquely solves the issue of excessive fast traveling. I feel like I've memorized these maps just because of the ease of collecting resources, and more than that, the allure of potentially finding shiny pokemon. I don't think any other franchise could make me fast travel less than this one.

PoorAndCurly

Before we battle Avalugg, we see Gaeric pop a squat and then the screen fades to black as he makes the balms. We can only assume how he makes them....

Luther S

This may be too broad of a comment, but this game has given me the biggest bond that I’ve ever had with my Pokémon. The game strips away any barriers to learning moves, changing Pokemon attributes, or requiring certain types to progress through the story, which means that I choose my party based solely on which Pokémon I like to spend the most time with. Along with seeing my Pokemon in the stable and interacting with them in the field whenever I want, I don't think I have ever been more connected to the Pokémon in a Pokémon game.

Hurl3y13Tank

spoilers if you havent beat it ... the prof giving you the other two starters when you beat the game is awesome, this is something I remember hearing rumors about on the play ground at school when gen 1 dropped, so cool to see it be true now
