Thom Blackburn

Hi Minnmax friends, What Xbox dev team (non Activision) would you like to see take a shot at a call of duty game? What Activision studio would you like to see make a Halo infinite expansion? Any other switcheroos? Thanks, Thom

Brandon Fream

Hello CLCs, I've been simmering in the ABK acquisition fallout and this question popped up in my head. Where is the line where a license property outweighs the cost of paying for that license. The big example I'm considering is MachineGames Indiana Jones project. Xbox owning Pitfall Harry IP seems like a much cheaper option, but does the name Indy pull in more casuals than Pitfall's glorious comeback?

ProcyonNumber6

Hey Benn and Friennds, How much trouble did you get into growing up? Were you an angelic young adult or a little rascal?

PoorAndCurly

Hey Crew! How many times do you think you have completed the objective "turn the power back on" in gaming? What are some of your least favorite rote objectives that keep appearing in games? And what is your favorite unique objective that stands out from the rest?

Sean Mason

Hey CLCs, The news of 2K is releasing two Lego sports games it got me thinking about what other things Lego could take a stab at. Imagine a Lego cooking game, a music game, or even an FPS! If you could design any Lego game in a genre they haven’t dabbled in, what would you choose? Best, Sean M.

WavingWorld

Hey Ben and the Computer-Loving Cohorts! Back in ye olde days while playing Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow the characters used the word "Semantics" in a cutscene conversation. I'd never heard that word and decided to look it up. It's now a word that I won't forget how to use because of a videogame. What's something that you learned because of a videogame? I also learned how to read because of video games so maybe I should started with that?? Love the show! Keep up the great work!! <3

With continued conversations about chip shortages, I want to give a quick PSA for the Series S. Like many others, I thought I was going to have to sit out the first half of this console cycle, but the Series S kept popping up in stock at my local Costco, Target and even Staples. After my fourth or fifth sighting, I finally gave into the $300 gamble. Coupled with game pass, I have already played (and rolled credits) on more games in the past two months than I did for all of 2021! I started the year with Halo and have Elden Ring preloaded and ready to play later this week! People gotta’ stop sleeping on this awesome little system! Nothing really to discuss here, just trying to make the show better!

MickManga

So I feel like the switch has become my dream console. For the past 20 years I have wanted a system with Chrono Cross, Pokemon, Banjo Kazooie and plenty of snes games all on one system. So being my wish has been granted, I ask. What does you all dream system look like?

TheUnchartedWolf

Hey Ben and the gang, as a huge Atlus and SMT fan, I was extremely excited for the SMT Soul Hackers 2 reveal this last weekend. While the trailer was exciting, it premiered at 5am where I live and wasn't translated at all, even during the Q&A. When will Atlus start to realize they have an audience in the west? I love their games but some of their business decisions are baffling to me.

Capen

What, if anything, will make you spend money in a free to play game? I used to make spending zero money part of the game but now if a game entertains me for several hours I feel I owe the developers some money. Has your feeling about spending money on f2p changed over the last few years?

Hootz

I've been holding out on hopping into the next generation of consoles. But this week, the Elden Ring hype is real, especially when I found out my 8 year old PC couldn't handle it. So I gotta know; is Elden Ring a good reason to bite the bullet on a series X or PS5?

Joebeezer

With how packed this year seems to be, will horizon forbidden west be overlooked? Will it be a repeat of Zero Dawn in 2017?

Troy Ellison

Does Elden Ring make you want to Elden Sing?

Alex Smith

Hey Ben and the friends, Do videogame protagonists talk too much? I've been playing a lot of Horizon Forbidden West this past weekend and it's slowly driving me insane just how much Aloy talks to herself. Every few times I grab some resource she announces it'll be in the stash, or is talking me through a rudimentary move-the-block puzzle in real time as I'm solving it, leaving me no chance to figure anything out for myself. I've never yelled "Please stop talking" at a videogame protagonist before! Has an overly chatty protagonist ever bothered you?

Sam Worms

Missed Joke Opportunity: last week when talking about Siskel and Ebert roasting one another, you could have said, “get a load of ‘dis’”.

Christian Jimenez

Get Gud Cohorts! Do you check out those tips and articles when a game launches like 10 early game things to do, or best skills to unlock first. I find myself conflicted sometimes about whether or not I should because I want to experience the game blind but I also wouldn't mind knowing some of them in big games like Horizon or Elden Ring. What do you do? Thanks!

Jared Piers

Hey homies, with Elden Ring's release this week, this is the first time in my adult life that I've successfully avoided all pre release information for a game that I'm really excited about. I've seen a bit of the first trailer when it was revealed and a few screenshots that have unexpectedly shown up on my timeline. Any of you ever done anything like this and do you think it made any kind of difference to your experience? At the very least, it's made the wait easier as I really have no clue what I'm looking forward to. Thanks

IanTClark

Look…I’m still working on Dying Light 2 and after all those positive takes on Horizon Forbidden West last week, I’ve got to play that here soon. I can’t play Elden Ring, right? I mean it’s unreasonable. Please help me cohorts. Convenience me not to play this game…at least not right now.

Pongbot

Hello MinnMax Crew! Any chance you've considered bringing back Sick Stunts? With Elden Ring and that Sick horse, and Horizon with all the Sick dinobots and Sick gadgets, a show of Sick Stunts would be Sick! Am I nuts?! Or just Sick... in the head? I just miss Sick Stunts... Love you all and the show!

Jeorin

Howdy MinnMax and Friend Jacob Geller, Let's talk about an Elden Thing: What's the oldest item you own? I have an East India Trading Company coin from a shipwreck that is dated 1808. I also have a US penny from 1827.

CrabPalace

Where are all the beards at? The only iconic videogame characters I can think of with beards are Kratos and PS1 Hagrid. Who are your favourite bearded characters, and who should have a beard? I've pictured Mario with a full beard and I think he'd actually look quite handsome.

The_Smak

Hey MinnMax when you are watching something funny by yourself do you laugh? I know several people that think it’s strange to laugh when they are alone. Does this mean that they hold in their laughter when they are alone? Does this also mean that when they laugh with others, they may be faking it? Love the show and all you do.

Jordan Brown

Hey MinnMax, I was wondering what you guys thought was the worst attempt at creating a gaming mascot? For example, how Knack has become a meme at this point and both his games were met with mediocre scores.

Mitch

Sup guys, I think we can all agree that the Street Fighter 6 logo is lackluster at best. What are some of your favorite game logos, and what do you think makes one good or bad?

Collector//Emitter

Hey minnmax, inspired by the Elden Ring chocolates - what’s the weirdest video game promo item you’ve seen/received?

Shawn Mills

With the success of the Cuphead show on Netflix and Amazon casting for a Fallout TV show what do you think the next property to jump to a television adaptation will be? I would love to see some of the old Lucas Arts game get the television treatment like Monkey Island or Grim Fandango.

Jeremy McPhail

Ba ba ba Benny and the Max - Game I play with my students every year. One pet peeve in video games and one guilty pleasure in video games.

Tanner Methven

With the announcement of Walton Goggins’ casting on the Fallout series, I was wondering if any of you are watching Righteous Gemstones? If not, you should be.

Ronn

Hello CLCs, I'm here with a BetterQuest update! I've taken tests in all three of my classes. For Physics 2 I got a 64 out of a 100 (to pass the class I need a 60 so I'm still good), for Evolutionary Biology I got a 69 out of a 100 (nice), and for Primatology I got a 77 out of a 100. Still passing all my classes and labs so I'm on track. FYI chimpanzees are terrifying and have the most potential to take over the world.

SenttheProphet

my better quest goal this year was to reduce the amount of gaming time under the influence of a substance. I frequently found myself indulging in a cold beer, a nicely rolled joint, or a freshly brewed coffee before a gaming session. Before I thought I was heightening my experience of gaming, but I realized I was truly numbing my emotional reaction to games. Since the new year, have been playing without relying on anything to “heighten my experience” and have found myself now more emotionally invested in games with a clear mind. A shoutout to any other MinnMaxers that find themselves in a similar habit! Moderation is key! (Including moderation itself at times)

Phil McKrackup

Hey MinnMax! I surprised my wife with a puppy a few months ago. We named her Nala. She is a Mini Australian Shepherd and she is just the best. She has brought so much joy to our lives. I was just wondering who has pets? What kind of pets? And what’s something cute or funny a pet you have or have had in the past did? Thank have a great day!

Jake Z

Has someone ever convinced you to like a piece of art you didn't like?

Bob Buel

BetterQuest update for February! If you recall, it is to try a new style of food or restaurant once a month. This month, based on a suggestion from Mike Lynch on the discord, I went to a fantastic Vietnamese restaurant, Baguette Delite in beautiful Edison, NJ. A pork banh mi sandwich, a bowl of chicken pho, and some spring rolls and another successful month down. Absolutely fantastic! Again, if folks have suggestions for the rest of the year, drop them for me in the discord! Also, shout outs to Jacob Geller for getting me addicted to Vampire Survivor. I've sneakily put 20 hours into it and cannot recommend it highly enough! The ultimate podcast game. Old Man + Garlic for life

Hello CLC's. Near the end of last week Nintendo announced that it will finally shut down the digital stores on the Wii U and 3DS next year. Given how many of these games have still yet to make their way -- and by all accounts there are no signs of them actually come -- to the Switch, what Virtual console games are must grabs before the service goes away forever? Also, please feel free, if you want, to discuss your views on whether or not you're happy about the industry trending towards a digital, subscription-based services.

I am playing Death's Door on Game Pass, and I love the way it looks. Especially the film grain and depth-of-field blurring the background works really well. Like Lens flare, these are effects that pretend that the game was filmed on a movie camera, which somehow seems to be controversial. Thoughts?

coshimitsu

Who is your favourite Street Fighter character?

RiskyChrisP

This weekend my parents brought me three shoeboxes full of old amiibos and Disney Infinity figures I’d left at their house. As such, I’m inspired to put some of these hundreds of dollars worth of collectibles to good use with a new game: “Disney Infinity, or Beyond?” I’ll name a character, and you have to guess whether it received a Disney Infinity toy or not. •Jack-Jack, the baby from the Incredibles: No •Jack Skellington: Yes •The Lone Ranger: Yes •Zurg from Toy Story: No •Black suit Spider-Man: Yes •Sam Flynn from Tron Legacy: Yes •R2D2: No •Poe Dameron: Yes •Arlo, the dinosaur from The Good Dinosaur: No (but the boy, Spot, did) •Goofy: No •War Machine from the Iron Man movies: No •Baloo from the Jungle Book: Yes •Alice from Alice in Wonderland: Yes (specifically designed off the live action version) •Sora from Kingdom Hearts: No, but if you bought every Disney Infinity 3.0 figure you could unlock the key blade as a weapon that would one shot everyone (and Kyle wrote an article about it for GameInformer).

Hello Cohorts and Special Guest Jacob Geller! What's the biggest gaming lie you've told yourself so far this year? I was originally planning on somehow juggling Horizon, Destiny 2, and Elden Ring once they're all out. It's currently 3AM on Wednesday for me, and I have 39 hours in Horizon and 14 hours in the new Destiny 2 expansion. I think I have to be honest with myself and say Elden Ring is gonna have to wait. I'd love to hear what lies you've told yourself so far. Thanks, Nick from Atlanta

Bryan Sellner

Hey Minnmaxers :) I have a pretty simple question for you. If you could revive one dead franchise what would it be? And also, would you want an updated version or full remake? Excited for the next episode! Thanks 4 da content!

bizkiut (Nick S.)

Hey CLCs (and Jacob), What's a game that surprised you by how much time you ended up playing it? One of my recent ones is Valheim. I figured I would like the game, but didn't think I would get so addicted to it that a month and a half into playing with friends, I would have almost 150 hours in it. Thanks! Nick S.

CptCobblePot

Hey Minnmaxers, Is Elden Ring the FromSoft game that will bring in the most new players? As a fan of the idea of soulsborne games. I do feel really compelled to play it on release. My problem, I am terrible at these games! Which makes me drop them so quickly. The open world aspect seems to be the biggest draw to a lot of players, but does that new element mean I can just run away from really difficult encounters? Knowing that the CCLs are not the biggest FromSoft fans, what are your thoughts on this new soulsborne approach to bring in more players?

PhillyYeetSteak

Hey crew! I have a bad habit of pulling up twitter as soon as a cutscene or minor conversation starts in games. Ive really noticed myself doing it in Horizon, and I'm trying to stop so i can pay better attention to dialogue and be more present. How are you all at staying focused on games without getting distracted by your phone/social media?

Drew Waranis

Hey Ben, the CLCs, and Jacob Geller! I'm trying to interrogate a cultural blindspot and need your help: As a consumer, Sony (and by extension their Playstation division) feels like a company founded and headquartered in Japan that puts out content made in Japan (and elsewhere) and is governed my Japanese laws and social mores. Simultaneously, Nintendo feels like a _Japanese company_ through-and-through that wears their cultural identity on their sleeve even while polishing it off of some of their output. Am I off base here? Is it due to the companies' relative sizes and/or differing marketing strategies? Or have I just consumed more inside-baseball content about Nintendo and have a stronger parasocial view on them? Have your experiences with the companies as part of the games press given you a different impression? Bonus points if a panelist can fit Sega into this diagram. :p Thank you, Drew

AnAttackCorgi

Howdy CLCs! You get a loan from your local bank to make the best video game themed bar in town. What do you have to have in there? To help generate some ideas, check out one here in Vancouver called “Glitch” https://www.glitchvancouver.com/

AnAttackCorgi

Also, since y’all asked about air conditioning, I figured I’d weigh in as an Intern Architect. Before air conditioning was invented, we cooled buildings all the time using good localized building practices. In cool regions like Minnesota, you’d do stuff like maximize south facing windows and place huge hunks of masonry to absorb heat that’d be released slowly throughout the day. In hotter regions do stuff like use courtyards, elongate the building along the east/west axis or raise it up off the ground to promote air flow underneath. Plants and water also help cool a space!

Hugo Aguilar

Hey Minnmax cohorts, I recently played through all of God Of War and found myself with some good’ol post-game depression. I haven’t been in a gaming mood since then so I’ve been watching lots of movies I’ve neglected. What do you guys do when you’re not in a gaming mood?

Mike Lynch

Hey y'all. If you could pick one franchise to go away for five years, what would it be? Something that, when it returned, you could get excited for all over again .

OneArmedWolf

Hi all, on the advent of Elden Ring I’ve been thinking about Sekiro and the effect that game had on me. I was put off trying the game because I had some preconceived notions about my skills as a ‘gamer’ that turned out to be misplaced. The process of going from utter despair to eventually feeling like I’d mastered something was so intoxicating that it changed my life - I now seek out challenges in areas outside gaming and generally have a much improved sense of self-belief subsequent to finishing that game. Question is, can any of the cohorts list a game, or moment in a game, that actively changed the way they saw themselves?

Moya

I just asked a coworker, 22 years old, if he knew who Chun-Li is, and HE DIDN'T! He loves Wreck-It Ralph, but didn't recognize at least half of the classic characters depicted on the movie. At least, he knows who Sonic is. What other iconic game characters, in your opinion, are fated to be ignored by most of gamers from newer generations?
