Which Video Game Director do you think would make a good Film Director?

Taylor C

What is the most deceptive, manipulative, or dastardly thing you have done to get time to play a video game? (Easy example: Faking sick from work or school)

ChazCheeto

What Elden Ring creature (hostile or otherwise) would make the best pet, and why is it the gargoyles in the mini dungeons?

gybones

Hello pod crew, how do you feel about innovation in the way we use controllers? Accelerometers, 3D rumble, adaptable triggers, cranks, etc. Would you rather controller setups settle to a norm or get funky? Any funky ideas? Example of new and funky: when there were rumors of the Switch (code name NX) some rumors had the controller having mouse wheel-like shoulder buttons for things like menu navigation.

Punk Wizard Ministries

Do you think game companies see expanding to film and tv as a type of game preservation? I honestly don’t think I’ll replay the old God of War games any time soon but the rumors about a potential tv series has me excited to revisit the story, especially with the successful adaptations of games like Castelvania, Cuphead, and League of Legends. Is changing the way we interact with these IPs enough for games preservation or is there a better way forward?

Hello guys and gals. Elden Ring is obviously the biggest thing to happen in gaming in a long while and it seems like From Soft has been catapulted fully into the mainstream, but its also a bit of a controversial release. We haven't talked much about the performance side of the game and the bottom line is: quite bad. Myself and many From fans are obviously still gaga over this game but I can't deny the awful framerate and abysmal PC problems that means the console version is somehow the best way to play but even then its far from a good way to play. My question is how much has the performance impacted your enjoyment of the game? Personally I love it but there's definitely a nagging in the back of my head that this game runs like dog S on my brand new PS5 and would run worse on my PC. Thanks Ben keep up the good work cohorts!

Greetings MinnMax crew, Yesterday while working, I encountered a product I couldn't believe was real. It was a wallet that had lining made from the used jersey of a professional athlete. Is there anything even remotely equivalent to this in the gaming world? Who would buy this!?

Fenrir

Lali-ho MinnMax Squad, I had a dream the other night where I played through and completed a warp-whistle run of Super Mario Bros. In your opinion, can I log this for my Games Played in 2022 list even though my subconscious did the playing?

Jake Z

Is Elden Ring revealing that the magic of BOTW's open world was never about the physics or the climbing or any other aspect, but the sheer amount of surprising, bespoke content?

RickyWinterborn

what's your heaviest rage moment in games? my friend once lost at melee and started spinning the controller around like a mace and attacked anyone he could reach.

Mathias Jülich

Heyho cohorts, Which game mechanic or genre are you surprised isn’t done successfully more often? For example, I’m shocked how many open world games have worse driving than gta 3. Also, the platform fighting game ( akin to smash bros) seems like a genre that is not done successfully often, even though the building blocks seem fairly obvious. Peace Mathias (pronounced Muh-tee -us) from Berlin, Germany

RickyWinterborn

Is eldin ring's lack of UI and guidance really a innovation in games or just a refreshing contrast to everything we've gotten accustomed to?

MyNameIsDan

Hey friends, For those playing Elden Ring, what kind of messages do you leave? Do you leave helpful messages, or are you a "Try finger, but hole" kind of tarnished? Maybe you're a jerk and lead others to believe there are hidden walls where there are none. Do you even leave messages? Let us other Elden Ringers know. Thanks, Dan

Hello Cohorts, Ben, when talking about the Santa Monica steak place this week on Party Chat, you and I said “Steaks R Us” at the same time. Our sense of humor is one in the same. You are seen and appreciated.

The_Smak

Hey MinnMax, Why do video game villians always get the worst lairs? They are usually found in a poison swamp or a dark forest, filled with uncomfortable furniture, dark and gloomy atmosphere, blood or slime on the floor and almost always falling apart. Yet the heroes always get the shiny castles with brightly lit corridors, comfy chairs and a nice social atmosphere. No wonder they are evil, I would be evil to if I had to sit in an uncomfortable chair all the time.

Jesse Joxstrap Brown Baldock

G'day MinnMax crew from South Australia. I've been playing a lot of elden ring lately and it had me thinking, "Wow it would really suck to live here". I've played a few from-software games and the ones I played have the same idea; you are dropped into a very dangerous and most of the time a sad/gloomy world. So my question is this. What video game universe would be the worst to live in or be born into. BONUS QUESTION: Vice versa whats the ideal video game universe to spend your life in. Does anything top living in the pokemon universe? Shoutout to my older brother Leroy. We listen to your podcast every week. Been on the GI train since very young and hate be a kiss ass but last week's episode of the podcast was probably top 3 best episodes of any podcast I've listened to. So yeah keep up the great work!

James Pies

Hey crew! What new mechanics or innovations need to be in BOTW 2 for it to supersede Elden Ring's GOTY spot? The return of the Loftwing? A double jumping Epona? Playable Zelda? This of course is assuming it even releases this year but I still have hope! Thank you for all you do. Best, James from NYC

Funky Duck

Hey minnmax, Has there ever been a water level that was actually more enjoyable than the main game? I swear I've never enjoyed a game more when it introduces an under water area, they always just feel like momentum killers. Granted, I do like space environments, which are more or less just dry water levels.

tbeeks15

Cohorts! How goes it?! Have any of you had a game you’ve loved and enjoyed so much that you haven’t wanted a sequel? For me, Mario Kart 8’s DLC announcement was my dream announcement. Mario Kart is so good that I just want more of it. It’s hard for me to imagine what a better version of it would be before they announce what it is. But to be fair I also had the same thought with Smash Bros for Wii U because I was afraid they wouldn’t be able to retain all the characters like Cloud, but then Ultimate happened. So what are the games you currently don’t think could possibly improve from where they’re at but most likely will? Love & Respect, Beeks

Tyler Kasishke

I couldn’t tell you where it happens in the game or why, but the line “Eliminate the threat…ATTAAAAAACK!” is permanently engrained in my brain from the game X-Squad. Some guy yelled it before a big encounter or boss fight. My brother and I must have died a million times and it wasn’t skippable. What boss fight or big battle quip has permanently lodged itself in your head?

Jordan Holmdahl

Hey all! If you could retire a common phrase from video game discussions, what would it be and why? I would be happy to never be told "if you see it you can go there" or "you can go anywhere and do anything" about an open world game again. I've been hearing that for longer than I've been playing games and those lines feel as overused as "visceral combat" was for a while.

Greetings Minnmaxers, It’s time for Kirby and Sonic to get their due. Do you think that Sonic Frontiers and Kirby and The Forgotten Land can do what BOTW did for the Zelda series in 2017? Frontiers sounds like it has a huge budget and is going to focus a lot on “expanding the Sonic universe with open zone environments, new features, and environments”. (source: Takashi Iizuka) As for Kirby, that demo was pretty fun! Seems more simple than I was expecting, but overall a great change of pace for Kirby! Much respect CotCobblePot

Harrison Holt

Hey MinnMax, Tonight I reached the final boss of Elden Ring in New Game Plus, all to get some dang platinum trophy. I’ve still got one playthrough to go, but it’s still a blast playing through the game along with everyone else in the MinnMax Discord, sharing ideas, opinions, and fun anecdotes. Collaboratively experiencing a video game together with others is one of my favourite things. Does anyone on the panel have a favourite example of a game they’ve shared and experienced with others? Cheers, Harrison

Adam Castellanos

Do you think you are world rank number 1 in anything?

The Sleepy MailMan

Hey, everybody! I keep feeling like Elden Ring missed out on an obvious cross promotion with Burger King. What potential cross promotions with games (past or present) seem like a match made in Heaven?

Joseph Betz

Hello MinnMaxers, long time listener, first time writer (for MinnMax Show proper at least). Melee, guns, or magic? If you could only use one of these attack types in games from now on and could never use the other two, which would you pick? What games would sway your decision? Choosing melee would leave you with plenty of options for fighting games and most Nintendo first party games (pretty much all Mario and Zelda). Picking guns would leave you with the massive amount of shooters available, but also some unique cases such as Portal. Magic is an integral part of most RPGs, MMOs, and MOBAs, such as the magic systems in Final Fantasy games. Keep up the amazing content and looking forward to the Chrono Cross Deepest Dive (hopefully)!

Tanner Methven

Hey Minnmaxers, You’re given godlike powers to eliminate one character from the Sonic the Hedgehog canon, and make it so they never existed in the first place. Who do you chose? You cannot use these powers for a more noble purpose, but feel free to speculate if you’re decision would make our existence on this planet a bit better. -Tanner Methven

Hey MinnMax! My car is a 5 speed manual transmission. I was looking for a manual back when I bought it because I thought it would be fun, even though I just knew the basics of how to drive it. It’s been 7 years since I bought my car now and I love it because it’s a manual, I feel like automatics are so boring now. My question is, do any of you know how to drive a manual? Do you have any stories of trying to learn how to drive a stick?

BIG!!!!HERB!!!!!!

Question specifically for Ben: do you ever pair specific podcasts with specific games? For me, I find Hardcore History pairs very well with From Software games. When hearing about the very worst things humans have done to each other, getting my ass kicked repeatedly by a boss doesn't seem so bad

Ryan Besadny

Congrats on making Twitch Partner Sarah!

TechBeatNik

Hello everyone! Seeing comparisons between games like Elden Ring and Ubisoft's open world games got me thinking, is there a difference in approach to open worlds by Japanese developers and western developers? Games like Breath of the Wild, Elden Ring, and Metal Gear Solid 5 seem to emphasize different parts of the gameplay versus games like Horizon, Assassin's Creed, and Skyrim. I'm curious what everyone's thoughts are from this angle. Thanks for all the awesome content everyone does!

Shawn Mills

Where do you see open world games going in the future? I think it would be amazing too see someone try an open universe with multiple planets you can explore on a big budget scale. Imagine something like no mans sky but with curated worlds in a breath of the wild or elden ring style.

Bezlo

Hey crew, I've got a doozy of a question for you all. With the current state of the world right now, and how crazy and unpredictable just this year has been, do you think that game companies, specifically ones with online stores that require an internet connection to validate your games, have an option within their systems to turn off that constant validation? Concurrent question, do you think game companies have a moral imperative to allow survivors to continue to play games as long as the hardware lasts? I know it's a silly question, but if humanity needs to be rebuilt, wouldn't games be an important metric to save?

Fizz

I’ve been playing so much Elden Ring and it’s been really great but what I really need to know is, if I walk into a 24 hour diner and order The MinnMax, what is on the plate when it arrives? What would the signature MinnMax diner meal be?

Gooseberry

Hey y’all, happy international women’s week - here I dare to ask - who is a woman in the industry you admire and why? Great show, thanks for the weekly content! Gus

Tokyo Game Life

Hi MinnMax, Which is more numerous on planet earth: white t-shirts or black t-shirts?

Hunter Sax

Apparently Hidetaka Miyazaki in an interview not long ago mentioned It Takes Two was one of his favorite games last year. Throughout your time meeting developers, any other games played by other teams that stood out?

Richie Carrasco

Whenever I play a game a lot that I love, I notice how it affects my moment to moment thinking when I am not playing. For example, when I played a ton of The Witness, I was constantly thinking in mazes. What was the last game that fully took over your brain? Does it scare you when that happens?

CrabPalace

What's the coolest thing you've ever done?

Andrew Molnar

Hey Cohorts! When I was a little kid I was way into dinosaurs, and wanted to be a paleontologist when I grew up, but ended up being in a healthcare career. What career did you want when you were just a little scamp?

Drew Brett

Is the intro Cinematic to Final Fantasy VIII (yes that's right, 8) the best intro Cinematic in all of video games?

PhillyYeetSteak

Hey crew, Last weekend i made the rookie mistake of grabbing a hot pan with my bare hand and burning my thumb and fingertips. This has stopped my progress in Horizon Forbidden West dead in its tracks. Have you ever had a physical injury or ailment that completely halted you ability to play games? And how difficult was it for you?

Joey

Hello all! I’d love to hear you all talk about feature-creep in games. I’ve been thinking about revisiting some older gen games but I don’t want to deal with fuel management in XCOM 2, nor build an army in Shadow of War, nor the million different ways of asking, “are your survivors happy” in State of Decay 2. Bigger isn’t always better, ya know? What are some feature-creepy games that got on your bad side? Why do you think it’s so tough for devs to determine when less is more?

Jonnythan 12

If I’m able, I’d like to take this opportunity to point out that Itch.io currently has a bundle with a minimum price of $10 where all proceeds go to supporting Ukraine charities. I think this might be my answer for last week’s question about what fo you love about video games.

Jesse Repak

Hiya Ben + CLCs, Thanks for putting down Elden Ring long enough to record another excellent episode. In memory of my other favorite video game podcast, (New Player Has Joined) its time for another round of everyone's favorite game: "Can You Guess the Name of the Video Game Based on How Someone Who Doesn't Play Video Games Described it to Us?" The rules are simple, someone who knows nothing about videogames watches us play, without any context, and tries to describe what they're seeing to us. Based on how they describe it, can you guess what game they're watching. You get 4 hints and can guess after each hint. Good luck. Round 1 Hint 1: the look but don't touch petting zoo game Hint 2: the 1 where R2-D2 goes to burning man. I assume this is what burning man looks like. I've never been to burning man Hint 3: the year is 2049 and science has finally discovered laser pointers Hint 4: bioluminecent dude does the wave but there's nobody around so the efforts wasted Answer: No Man Sky Round 2 Hint 1: helicopters are all about butts and this game proves it Hint 2: I am to tired to walk nappy game Hint 3: can't kill a bad guy? get Santa to give him a deadly gift from above Hint 4: the desert just has puppies? Let's go to the desert Answer: Metal Gear Solid 5 Round 3 Hint 1: sad Pac-Man needs Christmas pancakes right now Hint 2: your Russian nesting dolls are propelled by their own farts, to much of their own product Hint 3: why does the end timer swear at me every time? Hint 4: did these vegetables murder their father? Answer: Overcooked

Hiya MinnMax, What are the odds we discover extraterrestrial life in our lifetime?

Justin Dale

Hello Cohorts! My kids got me Kena for my birthday and we have been loving it. They LOVE the hats and the rot. And it’s gotten me super excited to get them all. What is your favorite collectible from a game? After these hats my next one for me has to be my living Pokédex.

Joshua Leemon

Greetings Tarnished, I’m wondering if any of you think that Sony is now on a fast track to make Bloodborne 2 since the overwhelming reaction and praise for Elden Ring? It’s been rumored for a while but now would be a great time to cash that check. Thoughts?

Bruce The Genetic Jackhammer Rando

Hey Minnmaxers! First of all, congratulations to Sarah for making Twitch partner. My question is an odd one, recently I have had the most vivid dreams. (I chalk it up to quitting the jazz cabbage as my New Years resolution) The weirdest one was I had dreamed I had somehow married Ben Hanson. The dream consisted of me constantly running away or making excuses to avoid consummating our marriage (as I couldn’t be straighter if I tried) and trying to work out how to break the news to my girlfriend. My question is have you all ever had a dream so vivid that you woke up believing it was real? P.S the wedding was nice haha

Joel

Hello Minnmax!! Would you rather play an online game with bad Internet or a game using a joycon with drift?
