Hello all, In Uncharted 4, there is a part of the game where Nathan gets into a fight with Nadine, but she won't hit you until you take a swing at her and the game just stops moving until you do that. I literally just sat there (having been raised not to hit women) for quite a while. I knew what the game wanted me to do, I just didn't want to do it. They did it again (forcing me to do something I didn't want to do) in Last of Us at the end (I won't say what specifically to avoid a spoiler). What is a game that forced you to do something that you didn't want to do in order to move forward? Did you do it?

Howdy Ben and the CLCs, While growing up in the 90s, the Pepsi corporation created a program called Pepsi Stuff. They would print codes on their products to give you points and if you collected enough points you could cash them in for prizes. The neighborhood kids and I would go around on recycling day, gather as much as we could and cash them in for swag at the end of the summer. What is something you saved up for with points or tickets? Did any of you get one of the big prizes from Chuck E Cheese’s, Dave and Busters or the State Fair?

Heya Cohorts! Over the last year I’ve really got back into Destiny 2. The newest Witch Queen expansion has been one of the best so far, and its my current Game of the Year. What is the approach to reviewing Games as a service vs more traditional releases? I find that in service Games, time consuming or “grind” aspects of the game are given way more forgiveness than in traditional releases.

Devin B

Hey Ben and cohorts, If you could bring back one failed or forgotten video game franchise and make it a success today, what would it be?

Jordan Blayney

Hey Cohorts! What is the temperature set at currently in your car? Its currently 52 degrees in Omaha Nebraska and I still have my car set to cold air. Does anyone else have their cars set to the same temperature all year round? Thank you! Jordan B.

RickyWinterborn

remember when some ps2 character models had individual fingers compared to the solid mitts of the previous gen? i remember feeling like that was a massive leap in tech. what's another specific detail you remember that felt like an example of a big leap in graphics?

Albert Guerra

Howdy y’all! And please shout it with excitement lol The question I would like to pose to you guys is; Are there any video games that tackle the themes of religion through the lens of an atheist? I know Japanese developers use a lot of Christian and Catholic themes but don’t really acknowledge it as something personal. So I’m wondering if there are any video games that acknowledge religion as a detriment to human civilization. Just kidding. Or am I? Anyways, thanks for the great show y’all always put on! I look forward to it every week!

On last week’s show, you guys kinda breezed past a question which has been on my mind a lot lately (what phrase would you remove from gaming discourse?), and I was hoping to build on it. I think a lot about why gaming is still described as being “in its infancy” as a hobby, so often viewed as more childish than fandom of films or TV shows. I think a big part of it is how people in gaming talk about it (which is why I’m hesitant to bring it up, since EVERYONE is guilty… including Minnmax cohorts). First, I’d advocate for retiring the phrase “of all time.” It’s a hilariously grandiose and shortsighted way to describe a period of, at most, a few decades. Saying “that’s my favorite game” conveys the same information as saying “that’s my favorite game of all time,” with the added benefit of not sounding like we have no perspective of a time before ourselves. Second, and a huge pet peeve of mine, is our need to get past referring to the first installment in a series as “Such and Such One.” There is no Portal 1, or Mass Effect 1, or Dead Space 1, and the only reason people were confused by the release of the Xbox One was that we’ve taken to calling the Xbox by the wrong name this whole time. Finally, we should reverse the order of discourse so that, rather than having to sound klaxons and yell from the rooftops when we AREN’T going to spoil something, we just move forward with the assumption that we aren’t spoiling things. If a discussion is going to go somewhere potentially compromising, THAT is when it makes sense to mention it, and warn people. Having a thoughtful moment completely derailed by someone interrupting to shout “NO SPOILERS! BE CAREFUL!” is so tiresome, and we can move past it if we try. Am I just an old man yelling at clouds? Or is there something to be said for evolving and maturing gaming by evolving and maturing the way we discuss them?

Hey minnmax, I just started commuting to work again (1 hour each way), and I started taking a slower local road home to avoid the packed highway. It can add an extra 15-20 minutes onto the drive on a bad day, but I find it's a good tradeoff for the lower stress and nicer setting. What would the group prefer? A longer commute with lower stress, or a shorter commute in the typical rush hour madness?

Brandon Scott

Hey there crew, Is there any way to predict whether a game will have a good launch, performance wise? Should we just trust certain developers, or is it always a toss-up?

Adam Castellanos

What is something that you hated as a kid but love now. Spaghetti used to always make we throw up as a kid but now it is one of my favorite foods. Thank you

Joel

Hello Minnmax! In the era of remasters, reboots and remakes, do you think there is an IP that is not coming back for sure?

Tanner Hoisington

Does anyone on the show have tips for efficiently playing and finishing games? Because all I'm good at is playing 10 at once.

Grizzled Gaming

Hey gang! Ben, tell JeffM Grizzled Gaming says "hello". He'll know what it means. A few weeks ago I was playing Halo multiplayer and got killed by Batmans Chalupa. Over the years, I’ve also run into JuanCena and Netflix N Kill. Do any of you have funny/memorable Gamertags or usernames you’ve run across online?

Josh

What’s the weirdest favor you’ve asked of a friend?…example…having Jason Oestreicher wait in line for an Adam Corolla signed bottle of sangria.

Joe Kafchinski

Hey MinnMax crew - In Horizon Forbidden West, during underwater sections, the game advises the player to avoid detection by hiding in the "Stealth Kelp." What are some of your favorite best-worst, most videogamey names for items, techniques, etc.

Tyler Sticka

Hi, cohorts! We're up to the fifth consecutively numbered PlayStation console. So here's a silly question: Assuming console manufacture continues indefinitely, what's the highest number you think Sony would go before reconsidering that naming convention? My guess is PlayStation 8: iPhone and Windows both jumped from 8 to 10, so I assume there's some marketing reason for avoiding "nine" in product names.

Zach Helton

Hey crew! What games do y’all thing have had the most unfortunate release dates? The Horizon series is a recent example that comes to mind.

Kit N

Hello MinnMax! Recently I've been playing through Metroid Zero Mission and Titanfall 2 and they both have some of the most satisfying ending levels in terms of gameplay mechanics. What's the most satisfying or just generally best moment in gaming you've had recently?

SenttheProphet

What elements of video games have you felt truly helped you “out there in the real world”? I have found that following quests logs and relying on maps in games, has made me more task oriented and at ease with navigation

Brian Lyness

Hey folks, Has there ever been a criticism that a friend or co-worker has labelled at a game you've loved that has really gotten under your skin? Lastly have you gotten better over the years at taking this criticism on the chin or sometimes are you secretly seething underneath the surface? I think I've gotten better at just laughing off criticisms of my favourite games these days but when I was younger it really wound me up.

Luca Alberti

Due to the semiconductor crisi I've had the pleasure of playing Triangle Strategy in the middle of ER season, I'm having a blast with the story mocking drugs clichés substituting them with salt and some wacky characters such as a juggler that can create shadow clones which leads me to ask: what is the weirdest class/unit you've had the pleasure of including in your party in any videogame?

LB

Howdy Cohorts Overwatch2 beta news is being tossed around this week. What’s the hype level around there. Are any of you gonna try and get in the beta. PS, who’s your favorite hero from the roster? Thanks

Nick from Atlanta

Hello Cohorts! You're the next host of themed Trivia Tower. Congratulations! (I guess that's nothing new for Hanson). What is your dream topic, and who is your dream guest host? Thanks, Nick from Atlanta P.S. My choice would be Destiny with MyNameIsByf.

AnotherRobot

You have to get an autograph permanently tattooed on a conspicuous part of your body. Who do you choose?

Clint Farley

Hey MinnMax, A lot of people talk about how they'd like bigger game mechanics to be used in other games: Zelda BotW/Assassin's Creed's free climbing, the Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor, etc. However, what smaller or simpler mechanic would you like to see shared more in games? For example I'm playing Cyberpunk 2077 right now and I really wish it had the mechanic from Borderlands that let you mark weapons/items as 'favorite' or 'junk' so you can mass sell to vendors quicker. Even better yet the Pre-Sequel let you 'sell all items not marked favorite' as that saves even more time.

Wes Bates

Hey MinnMax Crew, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is dropping this week and everywhere I look I see people claiming that main character Jack is one of the dumbest characters they’ve ever seen in games. This got me wondering - which character is actually the biggest dork in video games? There’s so many to choose from, but I want to know who you think is definitively the most giant dork of a character in gaming and why? Thanks for taking my question if you do! ~ Wes Bates

Hello Everyone, Hope you are all well. What have you laughed the hardest to at the movies?

Tonytheswordsman

Wazzzup! I’ve been recently replaying the Sly Cooper HD Collection on PS3 and when I saw a brief cinematic the other day I noticed they never make sly double jump. So I wanted to ask in a game where you can double jump (or triple) are you not doing it all the time? All I do in games like that is constantly double jumping even if it’s just to a ledge at the same height. So thinking someone isn’t playing this way is baffling to me. Thank you -Tony

Brian Ventura

Hi MinnMax! In 2017, breath of the wild and pubg both released. One had a massive impact on shooters and the other, the open world genre. After the success of Elden Ring, which game do you think will be more influential in the long run? I think it's probably BotW, BUT I'm one of those weirdos who isn't at all fatigued by BRs. I wish we could get even more BRs, and I'm still hoping Halo Infinite gets one. - Brian

Andrew Molnar

Hey all! I've been playing Hades on Switch for quite some time now (currently sitting at 56 runs) and while I really enjoy it, I simply cannot seem to be able to beat the titular Hades. I'm getting frustrated and burnt out, and starting to feel like maybe I should just give up and move on. Have you all ever had to give up on a game because you just couldn't keep beating your head against it? (Also, got any Hades pointers?)

Luke Strain

Howdy Cohorts! In the 2019 Xbox E3 showcase, RPG Time: The Legend of Wright premiered standing out to me with it's beautiful home made style and charm. I thought it would get quite a following, yet the game released two weeks ago and it only has one review. Has there ever been an indie game you thought would make a big splash that didn't? PS: Janet, I drafted this game on Fantasy Critic and it doesn't have enough reviews to score me points. Could you do me a favor and write up a quick 9/10 for IGN to boost my score?

MyNameIsDan

Hey friends, What game from 2021 are you still thinking about? Thanks, Dan

Justin Ray

I just finished up Suikoden 2 for the first time and I don't think I would have been able to make it through that game without having fast-forward and save states. Next up on my RPG list will be Chrono Cross, which is receiving a remaster next month. However, I am conflicted on how to play it. I own an original copy and I have a CRT, but I also want the modern conveniences of the remake. Which way would you guys lean towards playing? Would you rather have the original experience for the game if you had the option, or just play the more convenient way?

Toby King

Hey cohorts. What’s up! I need to know what remakes are better than the originals for each one of you. Let me start with my picks: metroid zero mission, yakuza kiwami, the shining force remake for GBA, fire emblem echoes: shadows of valentia, oh and of course kirby super star ultra. OH YEAH and this one always makes my friends scream and piss and cry and fart a little bit: metal gear solid twin snakes

Mike Lynch

Hey y'all. Is there a series, movie, or game that you're not a big fan of, but you have affection for since it's a hit for someone you really like? I'm not a big fan of The Boys, but I love all the attention it brings Karl Urban. Thanks!

quick_gotoplanB

Hello MinnMax! When I was young I learned the difference between Shampoo and Conditioner all thanks to the bathtub scene in Billy Madison. Please tell me I'm not the only one who learned life tips from a grown man in a bubble bath. Have any of you learned anything like that in games, media or just unexpected places?? Bonus question: With the success of Elden Ring do you think it will be the most completed FromSoft game?? Thanks!!

Alexi

Hey Ben/Kyle/Jeff/Janet So with several of the new releases lately and the discussions around them , I've been noticing there seems to be this idea that you have to underappreciat certain aspects of a game or at least undercut a positive opinion in some way in order for it to be valid. I.e. "The graphics in this game look amazing, BUT not quite as good as this other recent release" or the new classic " The open world is so good, BUT wasn't Breath of the Wild still better?" So my question is what's your take on this? Why do games people feel the need to undercut positive comments on games? (If infact you agree.) Also, if I may what do you think's an aspect of a game or just game that's underappreciated? ~Thanks Alexi

MickManga

Wow I can't believe how busy my game catalogue is going to be. Between Horizon Forbidden West, Kirby Forgotten Land, Chrono Cross Radical Dreamers Edition, Far Changing Tides and Rune Factory 5. I think my gaming log is booked for months. Is it just me or is 2022 shaping up to best year of gaming since 2017? Or is it a year that's just hitting my taste?

Brett Hantz

Hi Ben and CLC’s, I’m looking for CHAOS. Have you seen CHAOS? I need to kill CHAOS. On a serious note, thanks for all the pods and streams you’ve been pushing out, and I’ll say it again, the interviews have been phenomenal keep it up! - Brett

It's been great seeing Ben and Sarah playing through Elden Ring over the past few weeks. I've played a lot of FromSoftware games, but having this as my first experience at launch, playing along with the MinnMax discord community has been very fun and special. My question is, is there an older FromSoftware title that you missed or only put a few hours into that you want to go back and play once you're finished with Elden Ring? I know Sarah's upcoming Bloodborne playthrough this Halloween is being looked forward to by many.

Josh LaBaw

I just traveled for my first time since becoming a dad. I had the Switch all packed up for some quality RPG time. Couldn't play one minute with a toddler in tow. Please indulge me with your favorite tale of getting on the other side of TSA & being taken to a new digital land while physically being taken to a new place.

BlakJak

Hey! I decided to give Black Mesa a try after hearing Kyle mention it on the pod a few weeks back. I rolled credits on it tonight and had an absolute blast the whole time. I know it's not a hot topic but I'm curious what the cohorts think about that classic style of linear fps and if they have any suggestions for must-plays in that genre

Andreas Jensen

Got a missed joke opportunity from last week: almost right after discussing the weird names of Square Enix games, you talked about Stranger of Paradise and Ben asked about "the arc of sentiment" of that game, and someone should have said: The arc of sentiment - I think Square showed that at the last State of Play..

Tokyo Game Life

Hi MinnMax, Are you satisfied with the item rewards in Elden Ring? There are a lot of unique items in the game, but since they have to accommodate so many different character builds I often find myself picking up a ton of items I will never use or equip. This is much different from other open world games where you play as a defined character and everything placed in the world is specifically for you.

Jason Wojnar

Hi MinnMax, I am still alive and more westward in Lviv after seven days in Kyiv. Still debating on whether to leave the country. Kyiv still stands and the Ukrainian Army is absolutely kicking ass. With that being said, it's still absolutely devastating what has happened in Ukraine these past couple of weeks. Thousands of innocent people dead and countless buildings destroyed. several cities in the east of Ukraine are encircled by Russian troops and supplies are running low with no opportunities to get people what they need or even evacuate them. No question here, really, just wanted to give an update on the situation and let you know I love you folks.

*BETTERQUEST UPDATE* My first ever goal for BetterQuest last year was to make pixel art. This year I get to share some of my pixel art in a group exhibition in London. Just wanted to say I'm grateful for that little nudge and accountability from the BetterQuest community.

Seth Filbin

Hello All! What do you guys do with your pocket change? Save? Spend immediately? What about those pesky pennies? I was shocked when my wife said she never saves pennies. She used to throw them in the garbage! Her reasoning was that they weren't worth saving because they're only worth 1cent. She was literally throwing her money away! Love all the content and hope you're all doing well! Thanks!

Donald's Cloaca

Long time listener, first time writing in, love the show, yadda yadda. 2014 seems to be universally reviled as one of the worst years for video game releases, but 2014 saw the release of Bayonetta 2 Divinity: Original Sin Mario Kart 8 Shovel Knight Super Smash Bros 4 Sunset Overdrive Ground Zeroes (The best Metal Gear game) Hearthstone Transistor Jazzpunk and Threes All of these games are great, but none of them "fit the mold". When Game of the Year came around, almost every outlet chose between Dragon Age: Inquisition or Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, two mediocre games which nonetheless fit the genre description for what outlets looked for in a Game of the Year. My question is: why is the range of genres that can win Game of the Year so incredibly narrow? Thanks for reading. (I think patreon deleted my previous comment. Sorry if this is a duplicate.)

R0CK3T5YNT5T

Sorry but I got delayed submitting my question. Speaking of delays, which game did you pick up a while after it came out and thoroughly enjoyed because of the polish it accrued because of time? For me, it was Diablo 3. I heard it was a mess at launch but by the time I jumped in, it was so so so good! Cheers from Toronto Canada R0CK3T5YNT5T aka Keith(Rocket Scientist)
