Boy, where to begin with this plot… I think the character reveals are just so over the top and love it for all the wrong reasons. Schala is alive! Kid is actually a Schala’s Daughter-clone! Guile is Magus/Janus! (Lucca’s note seals this for me) Harle is the seventh Dragon! Prophet is Belthasar! FATE good?? Dragons Bad!! Lynx, formed to look like the Panther Demon that attacked Serge, is not only an emissary for FATE but your Father!?!? They go so overboard with this on top of all the other time shenanigans too it makes it almost comical in an unintended way.

Matt Lynch

I was looking up how to get the good ending in this game (very frustrating, as I'm sure others have noted) but I came across that this game somehow has 11 different endings?? Looking at the requirements I don't understand how you can even do most of these!

Joe Holaska

I've been saving this one for this section and of course Kyle Hilliard had to put it up on Twitter before I got a chance! So instead of repeating his question (which I will quick--what's up with the human and the dinosaur on the screens in Chronopolis?), I undertook the research to try to answer it. Chronopolis is explicitly a lab that got sent to the past. Dinopolis was a Reptite metropolis built in a timeline where Lavos never arrived, thus causing the Reptites to become the world's dominant species. They evolved into the Dragonians. As Belthasar confirms, Dinopolis was pulled through time as a counterbalance to Lavos bringing Chronopolis back in time. To that end, the screen appears to be depicting two different timeline outcomes: human dominance and Reptite dominance.

I finally found a good strategy for who I use in my party. I’ve fully transitioned over to team “Old Man Strength”. Between Fargo at age 40, Zappa at 52, Viper at 57, and Radius at age 62 no jar lid stands a chance of being stuck in the land of El Nido. Plus you’ve got all your innate colors covered with the exception of Black.

Spencer Botine

This is a safe space, right? Full confession: I bailed out of finishing Chrono Cross about half way through the game. I never grew up playing 90s JRPGs and it just wasn’t hitting for me. Out of curiosity, how much of your enjoyment of Chrono Cross comes from nostalgia? Are there better titles to get players into the genre? Am I missing something? Do I no longer feel joy or love?

Shade

In the first episode you challenged us to find another show that spent time discussing the design of the Beach Bum enemies, so I feel the need to give a shout out to Retrograde Amnesia and their insane 40-part breakdown of Chrono Cross that discusses most of the enemy designs and nearly every line of dialog said by every NPC in the game. FATE has always been one of the most memorable bosses in gaming to me. Just the concept of killing the entity responsible for saving your game was mind blowing. I also love the way its techno god visual design and very naturalistic boss theme are almost discordant with each other, it creates a unique atmosphere to the fight that I have never seen replicated. I'm glad to find I still absolutely love it more than 20 years after I saw it for the first time.

Seangocongo

I will always prefer the “bad” ending for sentimental and aesthetic reasons. The way the final fight goes from silence into the track “Radical Dreamers” blew me away as a kid. After my first playthrough, right after the credits rolled, I asked my dad for permission to use the internet to download guitar tabs for that song. Learning this song was a watershed moment in my guitar playing. I see it as a catalyst for me taking guitar more seriously, and 20 or so years later I can still hear the influence this song had on me.

I've only ever played a very little bit of Chrono Trigger - enough to know who Lucca is. But I've never heard of Schala Zeal before. Is she a major Chrono Trigger character, or just kind of mentioned in passing?

Ross Pfund

I love how a small segment of the original Chrono Trigger theme is expanded to become one of the main musical motifs in Chrono Cross, which you hear most prominently in "Time's Scar." I think this intentionally mirrors how the fate of Schala—a minor part of Trigger—becomes one of the most prominent factors in Cross' story. Mitsuda: total genius.

Chase Klein

Ok did anyone else need to go consult a wiki to follow up on all the proper nouns timeline/dimensions that were dropped in this section? But it did kinda make me think a bit more about the discussion last week where you guys noticed that the 'stone' armor was better then mythril armor. I'm mostly speculating but, I think the Deonendrite (aka deodorant) materials are mostly found on the dragon isles, which come from Dinopolis. According to the lore of the game - Dinopolis is the technologically advaced reptite settlement that was thrown back in time. So maybe these stones are actually like a super advanced material, but to our heroes they just kinda end up looking like 'stone'? Might be way off but it would be interesting if the writers seeding the lore this early on.

I think Orlha's the character you get latest, and the only one that you need to turn back into Serge to recruit? I was really struck by her storyline too, there's a lot more dialogue than most characters and my tears did get jerked a bit. I wonder if she was originally intended to have more to her, with how she's teased so early but saved for so late?

Uncle Longfellow

Here's some wacky fun facts: - If you choose not to save Kid, the person who brings her the hydra humour is Norris. This is discussed in one of the alt endings via new game+ where Kid begins working for Norris as a spy in the Viper Manor kitchens - The Frozen Flame is a piece of Lavos that fell off upon impacting the planet. The same piece that powered the Mammon Machine in CT. The same piece that caused Ayla's primitive humans to evolve into the advanced humans of Zeal. - Why did the Masamune turn evil? There are several theories, but two good ones are that since the Masamune is made of Dreamstone (same as Schala's pendant, Mammon Machine), it can conduct Lavos energy, and without Masa and Mune awake to fight it off, the Dream Devourer corrupted it OR that since it was stolen in the Fall of Guardia in 1005 AD and covered in blood (shown in a cutscene in the PS1/DS version of CT), that this is evidence of the Japanese myth stating that swords have souls, and failing to clean the blood of your enemies and treat your weapon with respect will turn it demonic. - The Fall of Guardia and rise of Porre's military power was perpetrated by none other than that doofus Dalton from CT - he says he plans to build a strong military in Porre after his defeat in Trigger, so if he got his hands on the Masamune we know he wasn't using it in a knightly way and lends more evidence to the demonic corruption theory. Anyways, sorry for the long one but this dive was a blast, so thanks to all of the Divers and MinnMax!

Having just revisited it, where does Chrono Cross fall in your rankings of PS1 RPGs?

Zack Briggs

This segment is super lore heavy, and I wonder if you all think the game would have been better off spacing out the major lore drops throughout the game rather than concentrate such a large portion of it into the final couple of hours. It just seems like you get to the final boss with potentially a ton of questions and then Chrono and company are conveniently there on the beach to give you a ton of background info. Also, can we please talk about how great Radical Dreamers is as the end credits theme. I am struggling to think of a better one.

MickManga

I completely forgot that Lynx was Serge's dad. It's tragic that in an effort to save his dying son he would end up being destroyed and rebuilt by FATE to hunt down his son. It's really sad the more you think about it. Because not only did FATE do all that, but it even made him into a Panther the very thing that tried to kill Serge. 😭 To everyone who has been a part of the this wonderfully weird journey. Thank you. It's given me some wonderful memories I will always treasure as we visited my favorite game.

Charlie Hunter

When Lynx (in Serge's body) stabs Kid, does he know about Kid's pendant that rewinds time? At this point he's seen it before at the orphanage, right?

TheName'sPug

Hey everyone, So, this section of the game soured the experience a bit with the massive lore dumps that require notebooks and thread diagrams to fully understand, but I do like the game overall. Did anyone else feel like the game is more of an experiment with various concepts like recruiting a huge roster, interlocking so many characters' stories, and weaving alternate worlds? I feel like a sequel could polish these ideas into a more cohesive experience, but beyond the rough edges, there is so much heart in this game. Love the show!

Jeorin

Hey Chrono Crossers, There's so much to talk about in this section, but I figure I'm one of the few people to finish Radical Dreamers, so I wanted to write in about something neat: If you finish both Cross and Dreamers, then select the credits option on the main menu and watch the credits all the way through, there is a hidden text based 'scene' that seems to be a monologue from Magus. It's difficult to parse, but it sounds like he is hunting for Kid (Schala). New game incoming? Side note: it is 100% worth it to do the optional endings for Dreamers. Most are quite fast to get through, and completely bizarre/hilarious.

Vilis

Let's just get this out of the way: It's ALWAYS Cool that the journal belongs to Kid! And the stuff where she's in Japan at the end I remember was mind-blowing to me back in the day. Always 100% amazing. I still regret nothing by refusing her at the beginning and adventuring most of the time with my alt world girlfriend Leena, and Draggy the baby Dragon. I mixed it up plenty throughout, but those were my final two going into the end. I thought there would be some line from Draggy about the Dragons, but not really! He seemed to be fully on the side of Serge and his new friends, and I always loved going to the little island where he was goofing off with Razzly, Leah, and all the other folks who didn't really fit in anywhere. And then Leena has a really moving send off when you get the good ending with her saying: "Well... I guess this is it. You're going back to your home world, right...? Thank you... You've given me a special place in my heart for the Serge who passed away 10 Years ago. Goodbye... Serge from another world... And have fun with the other me!" And some people might say "Oh, well then it's weird because you never have an emotional connection with Kid." And that's kinda true, I would say my Serge had more connection with Harle than Kid, but Serge would still be like "Holy crap, I'm only alive because of this Schala lady, and that's Kid, and...." etc etc, so even if he didn't have a direct connection with Kid, he would have still been motivated to save this person who saved him, especially when he realized how much trouble it caused. Sort of like how, even though he didn't want her in his party, he still went to find the antidote for her because of how she had helped them in the Viper Manor, and because Serge is a good guy. Her memories of running like the wind under Cerulean skies must be from a New Game+ playthough I have yet to do though, because most of our interactions were fairly dramatic or grim XD

Whiskeyjack

Hello MinnMax, I'd like to thank you for doing this deep dive. It was fun revisiting Chrono Cross 20 years later. I feel like I appreciate the game a little bit more than I did after my original playthrough when it came out. But just a little bit. It still feels like a disappointment coming after Chrono Trigger. Also, thank god for Balthasar and Lucca. They are the true MVPs of Chrono Cross. Without them, I don't think I would have understood the plot of the game.

Colton Westbrooks

One of my favorite little character scenes from this section of the game is the one where you take Orlha to Home World Guldove. We learn that the patient that Doc has been unable to save is Tia, Orlha’s sister. It’s a tender scene, as finding her sister has been her lifelong goal. It’s heartbreaking that they finally meet, only to have Tia die. However, I love that Tia’s spirit stays with her sister after she passes and becomes part of her level 7 tech. Finally, this is another section of the game that shows communication and connections across dimensions. I love seeing the dimensional connections that don’t involve Serge, makes the world feel larger.

Duderado

Hey all, Being that Chrono Cross has the best video game soundtrack of all time, I wanted to highlight a song that feels inspired by the game but I know isn't. It's called Symmetry by the band White Moth Black Butterfly from the album Atone. The song sounds like a mix of themes from Shadow Forest, Isle of the Damned, and Fossil Valley with these natural instrument sounds and ethereal vocals. With that said, do you know of any music - video games or otherwise - that sounds inspired by Chrono Cross? https://youtu.be/1sgGi1psTr4

Matthew Clark

I've probably beaten this game over a dozen times, and have now done something I didn't realize was possible. I did not recruit Kid; at no point was she in my party, she was just a weirdo that kept showing up for some reason. "Choice Driven" is not how I'd describe CC yet the ability to ignore arguably the second most important character in the whole game is honestly impressive.

Justin Ray

When playing PS1 Squaresoft RPGs, getting to each of the pre-rendered cut scenes was always an awesome milestone. How do you think the pre-rendered cut scenes from Chrono Cross stack up when compared to the other Square RPGs of the time? Do you have any particular favorites?

Brainfreeze

- I find it very funny that Solt and Peppor are featured on one of the screens in Chronopolis where they're monitoring El Nido. They're just standing in front of Viper Manor, that's it. Are they high priority targets? Did FATE send them to teach Serge how to fight? - If you try to just use your ice breath in Lucca's house to put out the fire instead of the ice gun you get a message saying "Dragon power doesn't seem to work here...", I wonder why. Also, where do all those kids you (potentially) save go? Kid is still alone at the end no matter what. - Why is Schala blonde now? - The game implies that the 6 element types we see in El Nido are from the Reptites' dimension (per the 6 dragons), where as the 4 we saw in Chrono Trigger came from Zeal's founding of Magic through Lavos. So what was the source of magic for the reptites if not Lavos? The Earth itself? - There's been a theory for years that Harle is also a clone of Schala, since she's the only human the Dragon Gods had access to after being absorbed by Lavos into the Time Devourer. She does look a lot like Kid wearing make-up (which I think is noteworthy in a game with an otherwise very diverse cast), and she threatens to kick some arses to the moon at one point, but the status menu for Harle is mostly filled with "Unknowns." She's so shrouded in mystery it's hard to say anything for sure. I do wonder if there was a stronger connection between Harle and Kid that they didn't have time to detail in the game.

Creeeestheguy

This game has the most anticlimactic final boss battle in a game I’ve ever seen with the most confusing way to achieve the good ending. At one point in the final fight I thought, despite my love for Schala she might not make it through lol. It was absolutely annoying to chain together, but I did it! I thought there were great ideas and concepts in Chrono Cross and can understand people who love Cross over Trigger and vice versa, but it seems like the connections between the two games are forced to a point that it all seemed unnecessary. Chrono Trigger is considered one of the greatest RPGs for a reason. I never felt the need for more because they closed the story well enough with enough ambiguity that I could dream about my own scenarios for years to come when I was younger. This was a treat playing with the community and I can’t wait for the next deepest dive! Congrats everyone!

Mai Sinclair

So now that you have found the truth of F.A.T.E. (tm) do you feel super uncomfortable saving at a Record of Fate? Also, I love that if you talk to the people at the beginning of the game lined up at the Record of Fate it basically spoils it completely, but without the context we don't know.

Matt Corrado

I always like when games incorporate common interactable objects that are revealed later on in the story to be something completely different from its initial use/intent. The Records of Fate being used by FATE to control the minds and actions of the inhabitants of El Nido was such a fun bit of lore that I had forgotten about. I love that this seed was planted within the first half hour of the game. Visiting one makes you feel safe but ultimately just makes you powerless. I also find it fascinating that each one of us, probably at this very moment, has a "Record of Fate" within arms reach if not right in our pocket. A decent allegory of our current lives written 20+ years ago, pretty cool. Because this game is SO backloaded with heavy lore, I've been waiting for this part of the Deepest Dive as I'm hoping to put all of the pieces together and finally understand one of my favorite games. Thanks everyone! This has been amazing!!

william hittle

I found something this time through the game that I've never found before: a third revive element. I had always thought there were only 2. But I was in the underground ruins of Viper Manor in Home World (just trying to explore every nook and cranny of the game), and I saw a treasure chest that I didn't think was reachable; in Another World you have to enter through the kitchen and wade through a slowed-down river to reach that spot, and in Home World you can't enter the kitchen area. But I found a video online showing that you can climb on top of the ruins of Viper Manor and find a sinkhole that drops you where you need to be in order to reach the 3rd revive. Part of me is impressed that I'm still finding stuff in this game, and part of me continues to be upset that the visual cues for what's interactable in the world are so poorly communicated to the player. Have you all experienced frustrating interaction points like that? Or have you found things on this playthrough that you haven't on a previous playthrough?

DarkFishDays

(Probably a better comment for the last part but I just started the last section.) I was hoping that once Irenes acquired Siren’s Song that her harp attack would improve from an unpleasant screech to something more melodic. Unfortunately it’s the same nails on a chalkboard. So now I wonder if this is like Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire where mermaid music only sounds right when under water?

ProcyonNumber6

Hey Benn and the Deepest Divers, As a first time Chrono Cross player I want to shout out to Kyle for accurately representing how us other first time players experienced the game. His use of the battle boost and peppering in elements as needed as well as use of guide when needed was great to hear (glad it wasn't just me) Question for the panel though, what was the last thing your party members said to you? My Starky/Norris Buddy cop movie ended with Starky saying "Youu are gooing hoome, Serge? Starky am gooing hoome, too."

Shawn Mills

Back at the Chrono Trigger deepest dive I wrote into the Minnmax Show asking what character from Chrono Trigger would you most like to see in Smash Brothers (Ben enthusiastically screamed Frog). I would like to follow that up by asking who from Chrono Cross you would most like to see in Smash Brothers and what their ultimate move would be. Thanks for another great deepest dive and a special shout out to Rebekah for joining the crew for this and being a great guest!

Clemens Zobel

Radical Dreamers Serge is crushin on Kid big time! When they are hiding from a guard under a table, Serge is more focused on the girl than the danger! Also Heckrans might be make believe in that universe according to some goblins? What is Radical Poshul’s favorite food then?

Daniel Conrad

When I first finished the game, I loved the sensation of casting the Chrono Cross element and listening along as the soundtrack took over, turning the slow roll-out of my elemental casts into a melody. That track, "Life ~Faraway Promise~" (https://youtu.be/3Fb5UOKx5j8), is beautiful. The way the crystalline synth repeats the elements' notes, then speeds up the tune before the piano steps in front, followed by a roll of the timpani and the cymbals' crash, then soaring strings take center stage as the piano takes a back seat for the rest of the song... Listening days after beating the game, that song sent a shiver down my spine. The track also gets bonus points for its synth sounding so similar to the intro to "Schala's Theme" from Chrono Trigger (https://youtu.be/Q7tZVc8YSDY) and the theme in Zeal, "Corridors in Time" (https://youtu.be/BXo3DrXHY8w). It's just awesome how the music of Chrono Cross, which already has such memorable tracks in there, ties into the previous game in such a profound way at the end.

Yarrow

Did any of you end up going to the Bend of TIme? It was in between Marbule and the Water Dragon Isle and set up just like the End of Time. There were portals here that allowed you to fight pretty almost any enemy in the game. This place was a life saver for getting the materials for the rainbow shell armor and weapons. The second the top portal could spawn Manequeens who almost never used an element so I was easily able to flip the field and use summons. Getting these items made the final few areas of the game a cakewalk.

Daniel Conrad

Are there more games out there that cross JRPG gameplay with interactive fiction? I love how verbose and colorful the writing in Radical Dreamers is! Feels like I'm playing a novel. It shows its age when you realize the encounters are randomized — they get repetitive, characters act as if they're seeing something or saying something for the first time, that kind of thing. But with modern technology, game design know-how and clever writing, there has got to be folks out there meshing dynamic, RPG-style combat systems with the choose-your-own format, right? There is SO much potential here.

Joe Dean

Dear Radical Dreamers, Mojo has two wonderful existential monologues in this section, one when you get his level 7 tech (in the basement you found him in by interacting with the cat statues in a specific order), and the other when you talk to the practice dummy in Termina in the home world. Really weird for this stuff about purpose, family, and what you were brought into this earth to do being said by a voodoo doll weirdo. Kinda the perfect encapsulation of Chrono Cross: deep philosophical discussion in a weird package. Thanks, Joe Dean

Ian Switaj

I got a kick out of the three defense islands in the Sea of Eden -- Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos -- being named after the three Fates from Greek mythology.

Mi~Ke (ミ〜ケ)

I've had a ton of fun this playthrough by opting to min-max (hah!) every single character by swapping each available member into the party to get stat bonuses and mini-levels in between every star level -- which requires running from some bosses in the middle of those gauntlets we all love so much. Doing this gave me MUCH more appreciation for characters I never really had an interest in using before, allowing their individual stat growths to truly reach their full potential. In many cases, I even witnessed dialogue unique to each of them that I didn't know existed, and I found myself not sticking to a "main team" like I did, way back when. Did any of you end up taking a shine to characters unexpectedly, and why? Also, who was your final team? Mine ended up being Serge, Miki, and Pip. [Deep Dive Part 3 Note] I was surprised that none of you re-recruited Pip after "the big change!" He can be recruited on the S.S. Invincible after the deluge of characters join up with you (Viper, Fargo, etc.) if you check the storage room below deck -- but ONLY if you had previously recruited him as Serge. Maybe this was done in order to give the player more opportunities to actually evolve Pip, since he is the only character you can have join you again while in Lynx's body.

Ian Switaj

Going through Chrono Cross again and "playing" through Radical Dreamers has elevated my sense of appreciation for the degrees that the DS release of Chrono Trigger went to establish a clear connection between the two titles. For those who don't know, a new super boss was added to the game -- the Dream Devourer, a precursor to the Time Devourer -- which the party fights at the Darkness Beyond Time (just like the T.D.). This area is unlocked by conquering three Dimensional Vortexes, at the end of which Crono, Marle and Lucca must defeat shadow versions of themselves (gee, I wonder why them?) after which point the trash can will allow the party to travel to a place called the Time's Eclipse. Upon arrival the party comes across an Alternate Magus from another dimension/timeline who says, "Here, Lavos is no more. This is the future in which we've defeated him. Whether that is the future of the world from which you've come, I do not know. There are as many worlds as there are potentialities." This Alternate Magus appears regardless of whether or not the Another World/Keystone Dimension Magus is in the active party and the fact that this Alternate Magus loses his memories in a cutscene adds credence to him being the Magil that travels with the party in Radical Dreamers and thus separate from the two worlds we experience in Cross and the Keystone Dimension (K.D.) of Trigger/Cross. With all that said, what happened to our K.D.-boy Magus? Has the king returned? Do you think the secret post-credits ending from beating both Cross and R.D. alludes to anything more significant with Magus or do you think it's simple fanservice to confirm that, yes, Magil is some universe's Magus in disguise? ============================================= ============================================= If I may, I'll also throw out there, what do you think of these alternate versions of Kid? There's no doubt that the Kid from Radical Dreamers is Schala given their similar descriptions of how they fell into hopelessness and despair. * CT-DS: "It was I, after all, who wished it -- wished from the depths of my sadness and despair that all that was would be erased." * RD: "In her grief, she wished to disappear... Her past, her future -- she wanted it all to sink into the void... To be lost in the seething whorl of time... She despised what she had done... She closed herself off from all that she saw and heard, and cursed her very existence... But the stone wished for her to live..." And at the end Kid clearly remembers her and Magil's identities. So what do you think happens to these two Kids once Schala is freed, or do we just handwave it away by saying Radical Dreamers isn't canon and was simply included as an Easter Egg in Chronopolis?

Zach Gileau

I'm fresh off the (good) ending and I have to say, despite getting bogged down with some heavy lore dumps towards the end, I really enjoyed it. It feels like Schala is speaking directly to us (the player) when she delivers her monologue at the end of the game. This really feels like the game's manifesto. Basically, we're all small in the grand scheme of things, but we all have potential to do great things. And we're all building towards something greater than ourselves. Also, my party at the last boss was Serge, Kid, and Poshul and it was quite the tonal shift to hear Poshul follow up Schala's monologue with: " It'th over! Come on, Sergeipoo, ret'th go home! Momma Marge and the other Leena are waiting! Me am hungry... Me want thome Heckran thoup!"

Darwin

What was your favorite sequence/section in the game? It was a small area, but I really liked going through Lucca's house. I enjoyed just looking through the notes and pictures on the wall and seeing some of that backstory with Kid. Also...RIP Gato.

Fred Dinovo

From my comment last week my "0% Kid" run didn't quite work out as she is a daughter clone of a god apparently. I do think it's interesting that if you don't save her or go back and visit her as I did in part two she makes that comment to the effect of "nothing keeps me down" and we find out in this section that there was a magical force out there ensuring that she would not die. Good game, Poshul Pack for life

ddark

Welcome back, Chrono Trigger Did I just read that everyone’s lives and emotions are being controlled through the Records of Fate (the save points)? That each meaningful decision in the character’s lives has been fed to them from this facility with the words “Project Kid” on the outside Scribble-dee-don’t

General Guy

Do you guys find it strange that you can get the “bad” ending in this game at the end and not even know there’s any “good” ending between defeating the Dream Devourer and solving the color puzzle? When I got the “bad” ending, I looked it up to see if I was missing something, and sure enough, I so grievously missed the color arrangement in that one room with no attention drawn to it to indicate it was important, so I got jipped out of a decent ending to this very long and involved game. Seems fair, right?

Hayden Berthelot

I don't have much to say that isn't already posted here in one way or another. So I'll just say, the music is so damn good in this game.

Brian Paradis

I ended up getting behind last week and I have not caught up to the second “big change,” but I wanted to thank all of you for the Deepest Dive on both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. I know I never would have gotten around to playing these classics if it wasn’t for this community.

Ethan Merryweather

Now that MinnMax has played the series, what would you pull from both to make the next one and what would you expand to make if different? (eg. story, plot lines, combat, characters, party size, or new mechanic)

Kraid Belmont

I fell off. Couldn’t get into the combat and 20 hours in the story really wasn’t grabbing me. This was my first time playing this game. Super glad everyone who loves this game got this remake! Can’t wait for Legend of the Dragoon (potential) Deep Dive!

Ethan Merryweather

Playing through these games has inspired some ideas for the third! I’d love to see the dimension hopping & time travel mechanics combined so you get two different dimensions with their own timelines to hop around in! Imagine characters placed throughout the dimensions/timezones, once you collect certain ones (with innate elements say like blue and red to make purple), you can combine them (visual mashup & new innate element color), and can use the special combined characters in yet another alternate dimension/timeline (the third one!). You’d probably combine characters with a story item called the “Chrono Something-something”. Its a big deal, wall of text written by freshman philosophy major, and in the end you fight final Lavos or whatever. What’s something everyone else would like to see from a future game?
