Hello Cohorts! With the Switch released 5 years ago, we are ripe for a new Nintendo console announcement in the next 2 maybe 3 years. Do you think that Nintendo will have a more drastic generation cut that the other two manufacturers have had? Though my main question is actually about indies on the Switch. How long do you think Indies Devs will keep publishing games on the Switch? Will it keep going for many years after the next console refresh and the Switch solidify itself as an Indie machine for many years to come?

Hello, Do you think if a service gamifies our backlogs more people would be incentivized to finish them? Like let's say this service takes achievements/trophies plus your account to check that you finish a game and then offers discounts for more games to buy then that would be a positive win/win for both parties right? Or would it still be a chore for most people. Cheers, May the fourth be with you.

Howdy Minnmaxers! With the announcement of Return to Monkey Island and Tales of the Borderlands 2, I wanted to know what you all thought about point and click adventure games. I know some of the cohorts were around for that era and some started playing after the heyday had passed so it’d be interesting to hear what experience everyone has with them. Personally, while I appreciate the art, writing, and humor in a lot of the old Adventure games, LucasArts especially, I never really enjoyed the actual moment to moment gameplay. Considering the rise and fall (and rebirth?) of Telltale and proclamations that the genre has been dead since the early 1990s, what do you think lies in store for the genre in the future? Thanks and stay sane out there!

Now that Embracer Group owns Square's Western studio IPs AND Asmodee/ Fantasy Flight Games, I eagerly await the Deus Ex / Twilight Imperium crossover Immersive Sim. Are there any board games / video game crossovers that you think would be fun? Or is Shotgun King the best we are going to get?

I've discovered over the years that games I had "given up on", have come around to be some of my all time favorites. For example, I bounced off of Witcher 3, Hollow Knight, Fallout 3, and many more before eventually finding my footing. Each of these games have become all time favorite for me. How do you personally make the decision to "keep it in the backlog" vs "never coming back to it"? Long time listener, first time writer, new patreon here. Take care! love the show! - Josh from Tampa

Congratulations on the completion of the Chrono Cross Deepest Dive to everyone who participated! My question is primarily for Ben as a fellow FF7 fan: with the sheer ambition of Chrono Cross's linkage to Chrono Trigger, utilizing almost entirely a full comprehension of late game content and side characters, do you hope the Final Fantasy 7 Remake continues their seeming current trend of pulling on unapologetic levels of lore from the entirety of FF7's body of work, or has the heavy lifting required to track Chrono Cross comprehensively presented second thoughts on this approach? I personally say: Bring it on, Square!

I got my Steamdeck last week and I've already beaten two games that were in my steam/epic games backlog that I never once touched when I originally bought them. I even installed some Linux apps on it to stream my playstation games which made me feel really accomplished. This thing feels like a little miracle. Are handhelds the answer to backlogs? They are to me.

I have been watching IGN’s Rogue Jam. (If you haven’t seen it, it is a video game publishing shark tank tv show). If a major studio came to you to make a 30 minute tv show related to video games, what would it be?

Question for Y'all, do you prefer a game be "Underwritten" or "Overwritten"? My favorite game of recent times is Sifu, and a critique I saw of it in a couple places was that the game was "Underwritten". I don't inherently disagree with that declaration, I just liked that all the dialogue was brief and vague, it fit the tone. So my basic question is would you rather the games you play be "Underwritten" and let you fill in the blanks of the story yourself, like Sifu or the perhaps the various Souls games, or "Overwritten" like a game with a ton of background lore, and characters explaining complicated concepts to you in a thorough way so it's sure you didn't miss anything.

Hello Ben, Sarah, Leo, and JeffM! Seeing as it's backlog season I've started Cyberpunk 2077 and can finally follow along with the deepest dive! I'm about 5 hours in and it is not quite clicking yet. Which brings me to my question how long do you generally give games to see if it's something you want to keep playing and when do you cut your losses and move on to something else? Thanks for all that quality content!

Kolel Pryor

Hey all, I've been dealing with a (fairly mild) case of covid since last week... and I gotta say, not going outside and avoiding interactions with other peeps in the house is great for making backlog progress. I've been engrossed in Horizon Forbidden West and I'll probably check out the new Kirby game in the next few days. It kinda reminds me of gaming as a child; lengthy immersive sessions without the nagging guilt from looming responsibilities. My question is: Have any of you had similar experiences you're comfortable sharing? A time where pure gaming served as a great silver lining to some otherwise life-halting experience?

I’m currently at the end boss of Elden Ring and I’m at the part where I need to « Git Gud ». What end game boss/stage did you spend the most time on before beating it in a video game?

mngoldy

Hey MinnMaxers Despite living in Minneapolis for 10+ years I just recently discovered Minneapolis has a video game radio show called Video Games Weekly. Its on the sports, sports, sports all we talk about is sports talk radio station. Its the weirdest place I have seen video games show up. What is the weirdest place you have ever seen video games show up? Also for the former GI people did any of you ever appear on the show?

Alexi

Hey Minnmaxers! I recently got a new PS4 controller since the left stick on the one I had was drifting. Though when I looked closer I saw that I had eroded the plastic frame the stick sits in as when I'm focused on games I tend to push extra hard with out noticing. So my question is do any of you have any gaming habits that you when stressed or focused that you dont realize while it's happening?

Max Jahner

I bought MLB The Show every year of the PS4. Most years I pre-ordered it and played it launch day. But something about it being on Game Pass day 1 has changed how much I value it internally. It didn't the first year... It felt like it could just be a neat one-off thing and I love the game. But when it was there again day 1 this year it just feels... Too expensive on PlayStation? I don't like that I feel this way. I know it's the same product and, conceptually, I see a lot of value in the Game Pass model. But I still feel drawn to wait for a sale even though it should retain the same value it always has. Does a game being more easily available, through Game Pass, PS Plus, a giveaway, etc. change the way you mentally value it?

Darwin

How does your non-videogame backlog look like? Any books, board games or movies you need to get to? I looked at my board game shelf and I have a handful of games that are still sealed and I still have a Pandemic Legacy Season to finish up. I've also got a bunch of Kurosawa Criterion blurays I've been meaning to watch.

Hunter Sax

Backlogs? JeffM, did you beat Red Dead Redemption 2 yet?

Tokyo Game Life

Hi MinnMax, What’s the last game you came across where you thought, “How have I never heard of this before?”? For me, I recently discovered that Bandai Namco made a Sailor Moon game on the DS that only came out in Italy called Sailor Moon: La Luna Splende.

Shade

I do not like the open worlds in Elden Ring and Breath of the Wild. They make me feel like I am being forced to try and find the interesting parts of the game where in previous Zelda games and Souls games I was almost always in the interesting parts of the game. What widely beloved mechanics do you not like in games?

Sam Kennedy

What games do you think deserve recaps in the same vain as DQXI. I would love to see more games have short videos that play when you boot it up and go over key details.

AnAttackCorgi

Let’s play Max Take in Minn-imal words (I dunno I’m trying) Ask the panel (or panellist) to offer, at most, an elevator pitch-sized take about recent gaming/tech/pop culture news. Just an airing of awe, grievances, etc with an optional discussion at the end. 1. Musk buying Twitter says _____ about our favourite online public square. 2. Square Enix selling Tomb Raider to Embracer Group means Lara's next adventure will be _____. 3. The Mario Movie got delayed, and you are _____ about it. 4. US Navy officials warn foreign fighters that the war in Ukraine "Is not like Call of Duty." They should know that the war is really like _____. 5. Sonic 2 is the most successful videogame movie ever in the US, leaving you hoping Sonic Prime will be _____. 6. You _____ check out Spotify's island in Roblox because _____. 7. Call of Duty MW2 is confirmed, and you are _____. 8. You're _____ about Batman getting a sequel movie, because Batman was _____. 9. The Overwatch 2 Beta left you feeling _____. 10. You'd recommend Netlix try _____ while building its new videogames division.

What is the best way to make friends as an adult, I feel like it’s really hard to find new people that you want to spend time with. Thank you all

Hey howdy hey cohorts, Movies and video games are cool and all, but I’ve got a random music question: What’s a musical instrument you’ve always wanted to learn but haven’t? And why haven’t you picked it up yet? Remember: it’s never too late to learn! Thanks for being awesome and keep on rocking!

henrik mortensen

I once tried completed the whole Halo trilogy on the x box. I came to the last mission in Halo 3 and I never continued playing it for some strange reason. Later I completed all the games including Halo 3 in the Halo Collection, but for some reason I still feel bad for not completing the last level on Halo 3 on the xbox 360 even though I played trough it on xbox one. Backlogs always finds a way to haunt you.

Tanner Methven

Hey Minnmaxers, I recently beat the shadowbringers expansion for ff14 after starting the game almost a year ago. The story was truly amazing and I don’t regret my choice to start this massive mmo, but, despite knowing this would be the case going in, it’s not lost on me that I played fewer games the last year to dedicate more time to ff14. When looking at your backlog, do you decide what to play next based on the required time/dedication to experience, or do you just do a completely vibes based choice? Also, if it’s the former, how much do you rely on howlongtobeat.com?

Duderado

Howdy MinnMaxers, In the near future an alien race chooses to destroy mankind because we have too many good video games! The only way to ensure our survival is to completely cut one of these two game series from the timeline to avoid being noticed by the aliens: Mario or Zelda. Whichever series you choose gets wiped away completely as if it never existed - the games don't exist, the memories made playing them disappear, movies don't happen, toys don't get made, it's as if Miyamoto never dreamed the idea in the first place. Which do you cut and why?

Jared Piers

Hello Minn and or Maxers, If you were the only person in the world with a super power, how would you use it for personal gain? Would you use it at all? Obviously, its best if you dont get found out, not sure what would happen if the powers at be learned that one person in the world could fly or something. Also, dealers choice in terms of what power you get.

Jerry Young

Hi minnmax! I was curious if you ever go back and watch old gameplay or reveal trailers after a game has been released? I recently finished the ghost of Tsushima dlc and found myself back watching the initial e3 demo. It was fascinating to see a demo before we knew the mechanics, but even they were present. Ever had this experience with any games?

ProcyonNumber6

Hey Benn and Friennds, If you see this number 1500. Do you pronounce it one thousand five hundred or fifteen hundred?

Joseph Betz

Hey MinnMaxers, Did you guys watch Free Guy from last year?

Colton Westbrooks

We talk about the best soundtracks in games all the time, but what are the best sound effects in gaming?

RevRando

Hey Crew! Last year I started working a remote position from home and have been struggling with having a decent work-life balance. Trying to live, work and game all in the same place is a little mentally exhausting. As a group who mostly works out of your homes any tips on ways to adapt to living in your office? Thanks!

Doctorok

Hey, MinnMax. Since most gaming podcasts tend to cover the same topics when gaming news drops each week, how do you come up with clever ideas to make your content unique or stand out? P.S. Full playthrough of Ham-Ham Heartbreak as the next Patreon stretch goal?

PhillyYeetSteak

Hey yalls! My spouse and i recently started playing Little Hope together. The game itself is fine at best, but we are playing it co op on 2 different systems in 2 different rooms. We are controlling different characters, seeing different things, and making our own decisions that impacts each other. It is such a cool way to play that i wish more people had talked about! So my question for you is: have there been any new ideas in the way multiplayer or player interaction is presented that you find especially interesting?

Hunter Blessing

Hi MinnMax! I started a backlog list a few years ago. As a result, I play through more games, but sometimes its just to cross one off the list and move on to the next one. I used to spend a lot more time with individual games before making the list. Do you keep a backlog list, or do you just leave it to memory? Do you think having a list (or not) changes the way you approach playing games? Thanks for overflowing my MinnMax backlog everyweek! (genuinely)

jacob hubbard

Hey Gang! When working on backlog games, do you ever find yourself watching/reading old reviews of said games? I almost always end up checking one out after I beat a game.

jedijames2

Greetings! As a follow up to a discussion in this weeks Party Chat, I submit to you the very first (probably?) MinnMax Children’s Song! Use it to take down those CoComelon’s (or whatever). The Minn-ie Max-ie Podcast (to the tune of Itsy Bitsy Spider) The Minn-ie Max-ie Podcast, Climbed up the YouTube charts. Out came the haters, And squashed the podcast down. Out came subscribers, To drive up all the views. And the Minn-ie Max-ie Podcast, Climbed up the charts again.

Missed joke opportunity: I was listening to the final Deepest Dive part this morning and Ben says “let’s go through this chronologically” you could’ve said Chrono-logically.

OneArmedWolf

Hey cohorts. Will there ever be any way to ethically implement true AI into a video game? If an NPC believes it’s real, can think, can feel the full gamut of emotion - isn’t putting them in a virtual prison where they could be subject to all sorts of horrors objectively evil? It’s been explored in sci-fi ad nauseam but once we get to the point of being able to replicate consciousness, there’s no real difference between something that was artificially created versus organically, which I assume/hope will result in pretty stringent welfare laws for AI. But considering we don't even have those for a lot of humans yet that might be wishful thinking.

Phil McKrackup

Hey MinnMax! So I got the platinum for Elden Ring a few weeks ago. I then bought Elden Ring on my Xbox to try and get all of the achievements. Should I be ashamed? Do I have a problem? Also have any of you ever done this?

Zack Aaron

What’s your favorite kiss song?

Zack Aaron

Further—If you guys did KISS makeup for an episode, who would be who? Leo feels like Peter Criss/The Cat for sure, and Jeff probably has Gene Simmons/The Demon in the bag, but curious to your thoughts. Cheers :)

Swiggity Swoo

Can you name a trans character in a videogame? If you can I'll give 50 points to Gryffindor

Ben Cassell

Dear Ben and the Maxximilians, Has having a game spoiled ever made you want to play/or continue to play a game? I recently completed God of War 2018 for the first time and loved it, despite not really enjoying the combat and story beats in the first hours of the game. What kept me going was my fully knowing parts of the game coming up, including bosses and the big story twists (the GI game club being a big source). This expectation and perspective made me continue beyond the first portion of the game that otherwise may have turned me away, and wonder if any of you have experienced a similar thing? Keep doing what your doing, Ben, Cardiff.

Alex Owens

Hey MinnMaxers! Does anyone else think its weird both Sony and Microsoft have major features not working properly on their next gen systems almost 2 years into their life? I'm talking about PS5 rest mode bugs (esp when using an external drive) and Series consoles quick resume both STILL causing major system crashes? I was watching an episode of IGNs gamescoop about a month ago and Daemon had his PS5 HD wiped from it; have you guys had any recent issues with either feature? Can you think of another generational feature that never lived up to its promise? Why havent we heard any official word from either party? Is this acceptable as consumers? Thanks for all you do byyyyeee... AlPal

Shazirah

What is the most 'cringe' reaction each of you has had when you've told someone that you work in games media? Or have you been lucky and escaped that uncomfortable sort of judgment from friends/family/strangers?

Nate Marshall

I've been feeling a bit down about not following through and completing a lot of the games I've played recently, but then it dawned on me that I'm in the process of wrapping up two expansive games in Chrono Cross and Cyberpunk! So I just wanted to put out this reminder to focus on your accomplishments rather than dwelling on things you didn't quite make it to the finish line on. And thanks to you guys for the awesome deepest dive that have made going through Chrono Cross for the first time that much more enjoyable!

IanTClark

Missed joke opportunity from the The Deepest Dive - Chrono Cross (part 3). When the panel was talking about Joe Juba's GI article, "Matching all 45 US Presidents to All Chrono Cross Party Members". Joe said that Grobyc's counter part was Donald Trump because they have the same hair. Someone should have said, "Not my Cyborg."

IanTClark

I just realized I submitted this too late. I'll try again next week :)

Edwin Jones

Hey Minnmaxers I was a massive fan of the original tomb raider. I was one of the three people to own it on a Saturn. With the sale of Tomb Raider and other IPs. Would you like to see a remake of the original Tomb Raider? And how would you go about it to keep the feel while modernising it. Feel free to pick a different IP from the sale if you want. All the best Ed (from Wales)
