Greetings Mr Hanson and friends, With E3 supposedly coming back next year, and Keighley planning on doing a live event, it's going to be a clash of the Titans in 2023. Who do you think will win? If E3 cancels again, and Keighley starts doing live events, will he just become the new E3!? Instead of booth babes, will we have booth Muppets!?

Michael Berry

Hello Minnmax, I had a question for Sarah. Are there any remarkable differences between the airports in Japan compared to the United States? I have yet to visit Japan, but it is high on my list. Congratualtions Ben!!

Matthew

Hello Ben, congrats on tying the knot! I couldn't help but notice during the Summer Game Fest how many horror themed games were being shown this year, and how most of them were set in space. It did dampen my excitement a bit since I'm not into how gory the horror genre is these days, but thankfully there was a lot for me to enjoy during the other shows. Why do you think so many were announced? Is there just pent up demand for horror games? Are horror games an easy way to show how good dynamic lightning is with the new gen hardware?

Garrett Wainstock

What sequel should have just been DLC? What DLC should have been a sequel?

Jason Wojnar

My cat scratched me on the face so deep, it started pouring blood from my cheek. Has a pet ever injured you so badly?

The Sleepy MailMan

Hello, Big Macs! Can a bad or mediocre game be redeemed by a great ending? For example, I personally found going through LA Noire to be a chore, but the final hours hit me in the feels and made me appreciate the experience as a whole. What say you?

Boondock-Bandit

Hi MinnMax Mob (sorry just needed something to rhyme with) What would Resident Evil 4 remake have to do to blow you all away? More story depth? Super improved graphics? Better controls/gameplay? All of the above!? Thanks!

Benjamin

Hey Minnmaxers, how many of the 1000 planets in Starfield do you think you'll actually go to? I'm thinking I'll do less than 200.

CANAS1AN

I have a wedding/video game story in honor of Ben. short version: my older brother had an N64 that he let me play growing up. At an uncle's wedding my bro said if I danced my heart out to a few songs, he would give me the N64. My 9 year old self went ham on the dance floor for what felt like forever. To this day, I still have that N64 and it still works. My bro is getting married later this year and I'll be sure to dance at his wedding too :)

TheUnchartedWolf

I went to go watch Summer Games Fest in IMAX and have come back with a couple of observations. Firstly what were the games people in the theater were most excited for. In order of Least to most hype, Cuphead gameplay, TMNT and most of all Goat Simulator 3. During the last of us segment, I saw multiple people fall asleep, and Only one person was audibly excited for the One Piece game (that person was me).

hardIIfind

Would you rather have to play the worst games on your favorite console or the best games on your least favorite console for the rest of your life?

YARF

Everyone is talking Resident Evil 4 Remake… but I’m curious about when Resident Evil 4 will be remade AGAIN, after this iteration. I’m already pumped for Resident Evil Village Redux, and I heard we can expect Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, and then Last of Us Part 2 Remake over the next 7 years. I’ve heard about Hollywood following suit with “Jurassic World Redo: Dinosaurs then, Dinosaurs now, Dinosaurs forever” with a bold new Jurassic World reinterpretation, directed by Uwe Boll and co-written by Paul W.S. Anderson, starring Milla Jovovich, reprising her role as Alice Abernathy, and Jonah Hill reimagining Chris Pratt’s dynamic performance. I was so excited about Dead Space 4, only to hear it is a new IP, Callisto something or the other. Gonna dodge that one and hold out hope for a Metal Gear Solid Remake.

dmoreno

What is up with the hype for Starfield? Am I the only person who thinks this game is going to crash and burn spectacularly? Bethesda is almost at a point where they've had more misses than hits especially if you look at the past 10 years. I absolutely loved Fallout 3 and Skyrim but those teams are gone (mostly probably)! Add together their reputation for terrible game performance + bugs + Several games flopping + "1000" planets + procedural generation during a pandemic! How does anyone think this is going to be good? Am I crazy?!

Atthar Mirza

Hi all, After watching The Callisto Protocol gameplay at Summer Games Fest, I've been thinking about video game user interfaces and heads-up displays – something that I kind of feel like gets overlooked when evaluating a game. The Dead Space UI was INCREDIBLE, especially the little in-world objective path that you could ping. And I also remember early gameplay demos for The Division, where they showed that awesome map that displayed around your feet in the world, something ultimately scrapped for the final game. And a throwback, Republic Commando had such a cool UI that really tried to make you feel like you were inside a helmet and everything blended so well into the experience. Anyway, my question is: what makes a good game UI? What are your favorites? What are some disasters? Best, Atthar P.S. Congrats Ben! Also, I'm a new supporter on Patreon and just wanted to say that I'm such a huge fan of what you and the team have done with MinnMax, just like another inspiration of mine: Danny O'Dwyer and his work with NoClip. 😁

Hey MinnMaxers, first-time long-time! My favorite pieces of MinnMax content are the interviews, especially those which are related to recent happenings such as Dan Ryckert rejoining GiantBomb or Crows, Crows, Crows releasing The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe. Can you give us a peek behind the curtain about what goes into these interviews? Do you contact the guests initially with a cold email, or perhaps a Twitter DM? Do you prep questions and carry out extensive research? Keep up the great work! Best, Logan from Baltimore

Dying Light 2 had a major update this week…I’m pretty sure I’m the only one in the community that cares, but hey…this game is amazing. So much developer support. They have a 5 year road map of support. Just like they did for the original DL1. Why aren’t more developers taking this approach?

Hootz

Hello, crew! This one's a 2-parter. 1. On what date in the next 12 months is Silksong going to release? 2. Hanson, I can only assume your honeymoon included a successful adventure to find the missing Nintendo Direct. When are you gonna show it to the rest of us? Thanks for all the great work you guys do!

RickyWinterborn

why do you think gamers tend to have aggressive reservations about seeing a new game like Starfield from a prominent, but somewhat spotty studio like Bethesda? the sentiment seems to be "don't trust them! it won't really be like this! remember no mans sky!?" i feel like more and more people are building anxiety about the potential of a single video game, even if skyrim was your favorite or whatever. is this an issue with individuals? gamers as a whole? studio marketing techniques?

BearCommando

Hello all! Do you think Starfield is specifically not listing a release date because they are waiting to see when Nintendo plans to release BotW2? The entire gaming world will collectively go dark in the month following its release as everyone buries their noses in the Switch, so it will be the worst time to release a new game as Steam and Xbox user counts will basically drop to zero. If Starfield can’t release before BotW2, I think it will need to wait until several months after to give people time to finish that game and take some time to get back in the mood for a big open world adventure again. Don’t be surprised if Starfield gets pushed to late summer!

PoorAndCurly

Hi Ben and the MinnyMaxies, Who do you think will be the next big game developer celebrity to fall into obscurity or shrink from the limelight a la Peter Molyneux, Cliff Bleszinski, and John Romero?

Grizzled Gaming

Congrats on getting hitched, Ben! How long do you think it'll be until it feels completely natural for you to say "my wife"?

Jeremy (FuzzyGruzzy)

Greetings MinnMaxers! Congrats Ben and bride! Ben, how was your trip to Alaska? If memory serves, you were here during our best stretch of weather so far this summer. Did you make it to Seward? It's my favorite place in the state to visit for the views and wildlife cruises. As someone who was born and raised in MN (Otsego) and has lived here for 17 years now, I'm still constantly blown away by the beauty here, and as much as I may complain about being landlocked, I always appreciate the landscape. I say everyone should visit at least once. Let me know if you'd like to know any details about Alaska life (if anyone wants to know anything about visiting, feel free to message me on Discord). Have a great week and enjoy married life!

Luciano Comassetto

Welcome back Ben,I've been playing a new RPG on game pass called Dodgeball Academia. It's from a Brazilian developer and has an awesome art style. One interesting feature is a "learning mode" where you can switch back and forth between any of the languages included, as well as turn on a secondary set of subtitles in a different language, letting you practice your Portuguese for example. Are there any other cool extras or mechanics in games that don't affect gameplay at all?

Luciano Comassetto

I tried to watch the PC gaming show the other day... And i couldn't do it. I ended up skipping through most of it, catching glimpses of a really boring show. As people in game media, I assume you usually feel the need to watch shows like that in it's entirety. Do you secretly hate it? Or anything else to do with game coverage around e3 time?

Joshua

Hi Everyone, The Grammy's added a category for best video game soundtrack. I can't believe that wasn't a thing until now! What do you think about it, and who would've won in your opinion the last couple years?

Stephen Woodson

Hiya MinnMax folks, The ridiculously named Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 got me thinking: we can do better with these titles. Can you smart folks come up with a better name for all these sequels/reboots with duplicate titles? The sillier the better! - God of War (2018) - Ratchet & Clank (2016) - Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) - Prey (2017) - Saints Row (2022) - Prince of Persia (2008) - Doom (2016) - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022)

Mark Ramirez

Dear Ben & the cohorts, congratulations to Ben on getting married! Now that you’ve experienced your own wedding, what advice do you have for future wedding people?

Zane Dukes

Dear cohorts, On the Jurassic Park commentary, Hanson said Jurassic Park was the best movie ever made and it at least was in the top five best movies ever. It got me thinking, you could say Spielberg has the top five best movies ever - Raiders of the Lost Ark, Close encounters, Jaws, Schindler's List, and saving private Ryan - and people might think you're wrong but not crazy. Is there anyone close to Spielberg in the games industry? PS Raiders of the Lost Ark is the greatest movie ever made

Shawn Mills

If you were starting a new video game publishing company today would you try to publish games based on an exisiting property or new IP?

Kit N

Hey cohorts, Games don’t always have the best names. Which is just the most unredeemingly and confusing game name.

perter1

Hey Gang, Hope everyone is having a lovely week! My question to you all is what Movie, Game, etc. did you discover years after it came out that impacted your life in a positive way? For example: in 2016, at age 18 i watched the matrix for the first time ever because of a comedy button commentary track. I was absolutely blown away by everything in that movie, after finishing it, I immediately watched it again (without the commentary track). and proceeded to ordered the matrix box set and read as much as I could all night. I knew about the matrix, and played some games growing up but I just never watched it. since then, I watch it almost weekly, and I even gave my son the middle name of Neo. (hey even if he doesn't like the movie, at least he gets a cool name!) Cheers!

Virgil B

Hello Ben and company, I rolled credits on Final Fantasy X for the first time and it was amazing. Older games are still good is my big takeaway. Do you think a modern audience would be interested in a new turn-based Final Fantasy? Regardless, I’m still very much into the direction the newer FF games are taking with their battle system and looking forward to FFXVI and FF7 Remake Part 2. Also, good job to Kyle for being a great host!

Mark Polley

Video games are weird eh? Are there any other forms of entertainment, where you make a decision on what format you want to consume it on, and then for the best part of the next decade, you are limited to the selection of media that is released for it? It is the norm for video games and it probably won't ever, and shouldn't change. But should we just accept this as normal because thats how it has been for 30 years?

AnAttackCorgi

What do you think the review score ceiling for the following games are? And do you think the seres’ best games are behind them? Their highest scores listed below via Metacritic. - Kirby (Canvas Curse, 85) - Gears of War (Gears 1, 94) - Forza (1 & 3-5, 92 ) - Call of Duty (CoD 4: MW, 92) - Battlefield (Battlefield 1, 92) - Civilization (2 & 4, 92) - Alien (AVP 2, 85) - Street Fighter (4, 94) - Legend of Zelda (OoT, 99) - Pokémon (Y, 88) - Sonic (CD, 93) - Mario (Galaxy 1 & 2, Odyssey, 97)

Andrew

Do any of you fine folks have strong memories of games that are exclusively tied to the demos? I was thinking I had fond memories of Syphon Filter recently until I realized it was just my friend and I setting people on fire with the game's taser a bunch of times in the demo. Anyway, excited to play the actual game on PS Plus now.

Brian Ventura

Which game genres feel the most fresh at this moment in the industry? And which genres feel stale or stagnant? On the other hand, are genres too illusory or complex to even have a grasp on this idea of which genres are "trending" up or down?

Kevin Kennedy

Hi Cohorts! My personal Better Quest goals is to run 40 miles this month. We’re half way through the month, and I’ve logged 23 miles - right on track! As an very tall guy (6’7”), I’ve always HATED running and preferred literally any other form of exercise. Despite being athletic enough, I always shied away from it since I was so slow relative to my peers. However, I’ve really come to enjoy it in the last few months after forcing myself to get out there more and more. The fresh air and vitamin D does just as much good as the actual running sometimes. My question for y’all is this - have you ever hated something whole heartedly, convinced you’d never enjoy it, but finally come around to it after forcing yourself to do it for long enough? Or am I experiencing some form of Stockholm Syndrome?

MickManga

So my question comes from an interesting conversation I had with a co worker. They're in their early 20s whereas I'm in my mid 30s. We where talking about games and once again they brought up how unplayable NES games are. It took me back to when I was a kid and that's how most of my classmates felt about Atari games back in the 90s. So my question is. Has your one of your first systems become a relic that a younger generation finds hard to play? And do you find it hard to go back to those games?

Tanner Hoisington

In the last few years there has been a surge in board game elements finding their way into video games. Slay the Spire and the like, Dicey Dungeons, deck building in Back 4 Blood, Lost in Random, popular adaptations like Wingspan, Citizen Sleeper and Disco Elysium with their explicit dice skill checks, whatever the hell is going on in Neon White... Do you think this prevalence of board game mechanics is for the better? And if you feel like it, what game franchises could benefit from board game design principles/mechanics?

Daniel Doran

Hey y’all, Starfield’s combat struck me as kinda bland…I just thought it would be a little bit more fantastical. Do you think there’ll be some form of magic in star field?

Daniel Doran

Also, missed joke opportunity when talking about the free pizza include with the physical copy of the new TMNT game from Iam8bit. Brian literally said, “I hope it pans out for them.” (As in PAN pizza! It’s obvious right??) Talking about the deal between iam8bit and Pizza Hut…no one laughed…all they needed to do was laugh! It makes me wonder if Brian even knew the comedy gold he had stumbled upon.

Cody Hester

Hello Two Ens, What's the best last word or phrase from a movie? Thanks!

catzzznite

what’s good minnmax? growing up i played a lot of flash games a la newgrounds/kongregate and recently was reminded of a little game called z-rox. the basic premise is yr presented with a scan line “window” which a symbol or object passes thru. yr goal is to guess what the symbol is without seeing the entire thing at once. it’s such a simple idea and got me thinking abt all the different “lost ideas” in flash games. do y’all have any flash game mechanic or premise you’d like to see return? (repost coz i got in too late last week xoxo)

Styster

Hey MinnMaxers! One of my favorite things to do is go back to old reveal videos and see a crowd's live reaction. There's something about a group of people's shared excitement that just brings me so much joy. Why do you think people are drawn to watching reaction videos? Are there any that stick out to you as particularly memorable?

Logan Krause

Hey MinnMaxers! What’s the difference between a live service game and a mmo? My wife asked me the difference and I realized I don’t really know. PS just bought a tshirt and rocked it at work all day yesterday

Sam Morrow

Welcome back Ben and congrats on getting hitched! And good day to all MinnMaxers. As a teacher, summers still consist of days and nights filled with glorious video game playing. Recently I have been enjoying the benefits of services like GamePass and the new PlayStation Plus. Imagine if your younger selves had access to these before jobs, driving licenses, and life's endless responsibilities! How do you think your video game playing would have changed if your 12 year old versions had access to these endless buffets of games? More multiplayer experiences? Different genres? How would different of a gamer do you think you would be today?

claudio

Hi Ben and the Crew, So many games now a days are specifically targeted towards multiplayer experiences. As an adult with job and family, its often difficult to get a consistent group of friends to play one game, at the same time. If you could magically make it so that 2-3 of your friends were always online right when you were and had access to all the same game, which game would you want to play that you otherwise have not been able to?

Luca Alberti

Hello MinnMax crew! After the disappointing reveal (wasn't it already announced?) of the celebratory video for Dragon's Dogma that left pretty much every fan upset, do you think the Marketing teams need to take a look in the mirror and realize they can't just blindly increase hype or make announcements for announcements? In this case especially, where everyone is aware of the sequel's existence because of the Ransomware leak, it feels particularly tone deaf to just stick to this kind of communication.

Tonytheswordsman

With all the recent independent journeys of media personalities like nextlander and Jeff g. It’s seems like I have too many podcasts and streams to keep up with on top of the usual. How do you manage all your media? I know Ben said he mainly listens to gaming podcasts but with some being 3hrs how do you go through them all?

Robert Haass

Hey Minnmax crew, this is my first week being a Patron! I hope my question isn't similar to one that has been asked before, but here we go. A couple months back, my girlfriend and I were a few bottles of wine deep when I decided out of the blue to pull up the Sega Genesis emulator on the switch and start playing Shinobi 3 - a game that I played obsessively as a child with very few games to choose from, and one I hadn't played in probably 20 years. To our amazement, I was still incredible at the game, speedrunning through the first 5 levels or so before calling it quits. My girlfriend said it was clear I had some deeply ingrained muscle memory that had never faded with time. My question is - are there are random games from your childhood (aside from the usual Super Mario games) that you think you could drunkenly play like a pro if you booted them up tonight?
