Grizzled Gaming

Hey gang! Ben, tell JeffM Grizzled Gaming says "hello". He'll know what it means. You’ve been given $120-$140 for your entire yearly gaming allowance. Do you buy 2 new games at release? Wait for sales of older games? Buy cheaper indie games? How would you get the most bang for your buck?

Hey Cohorts! Ready to live up to what MinnMax is all about? Hanson - early on when Sarah joined MinnMax, you mentioned being inspired by her grasp of Twitch and streaming in general, and challenged yourself to get better at it. I think you have, and MinnMax’s streaming content overall has been consistently great. What are some other ways you Gaming™ Friends™ have inspired each other to Get Better™? (Doesn’t necessarily have to be gaming related!)

I'm really looking forward to Shashingo - learning Japanese through a Pokemon Snap-like photography game sounds like so much fun, and I can't wait for it to come to Switch.

Hey cohorts! I’m dying to know more about the bike ride! I am an avid cyclist, but don’t live in the area. What kind of bikes do y’all have? What kind of riding do you like to do? How was the turn out and who has the coolest bike?

Good day, MinnMax customer care associates I was minding my own business enjoying your great product last week when a brash claim was made by Jacob Galler that The film 'RRR' is Best Picture 2022 even over 'Everything Everywhere All At Once'. I could not believe my ears especially after watching a trailer for 'RRR'. I watched it with a friend last weekend and I will simply say that we vehemently disagree. So, Ben. Did you complete the 3 hour task? And what did you think, if so? (It's okay. You can be honest. he's not here). Also, very interested to know more in depth what Jacob saw in the film that my friend and I didn't. Reviews indicate he isn't alone. Maybe this film even deserves some MaxSpoilers treatment.

Thom Blackburn

Hi Ben and friendz, I think we have haptics pretty well figured out with controllers by now, so what might be the next sense that will be tackled and what is the limit that the public might have on immersion? Thanks, Thom

All the musou games are my chicken nugget games. They are basically all the same, the video game equivalent to comfort food and I eat every entry in the series up.

Stephen Woodson

The game I'm looking forward to most is Roots of Pacha. It had a couple trailers during the summer showcases, but I wonder if it's getting enough eyes. It seems like more of a spiritual successor to Stardew Valley than any other game so far. The art is fantastic, the mini games look fun, and it seems like there is a lot to do single player or co-op. And not to bury the lede: it's set in prehistoric times! Befriend a mammoth! Ride an ostrich! Go cave painting! Best regards, -Stevo

Hello all! Going a step further than anticipated video games, what is your most anticipated piece of media of any kind that is on the horizon? Mine is a board game called Beast, wherein one player moves around the board in secret as a monstrous creature, and the other players play as unique hunters trying to find and kill it. The art alone is with checking out the game. What about you all? Here's the trailer for the game for anyone who is interested. https://youtu.be/P9AXGxEZrK8

Into the Breach is coming to ios/android through Netflix and receiving a free content update on all platforms on July 19, so there goes another few dozen hours of my life!

How do you catch a polar bear?…dig a hole in the ice and put peas around it, and when he goes to take a pea, kick him in the ice hole.

Hi MinnMax! I enjoyed watching Axe of the Blood God's ranking of games that had the best party members. Do you factor how strong a character is in combat into how much you like the character overall? I played through Final Fantasy XII and my least favorite characters, Penelo and Vaan, were my most clutch characters in battle. Thanks! And my most anticipated game for the rest of 2022 is Valkyrie Elysium. Which looks like another game where combat effectiveness of party members may be judged.

Pelicanman

What’s your favorite game that you’ve never played? A game that, through one way or another, you’ve absorbed a lot of and developed fond feelings for, despite not having actually touched it?

James Ford

Hello Ben and the Horts. How do you approach tutorials? Do you wait for when the game tells you to press a button to press it? Or is the first thing you do mash every button so find what out what does what?

MickManga

Hiya computer loving cohorts. I love listening to music from games. However recently I found myself listening to and even ended up purchasing the soundtrack to Florance. Here's the thing, I have yet to play the game. So I was wondering if you all have a game soundtrack you listen to but have never played the game?

CANAS1AN

hello minn maxers my question is for steam deck owners with kids are you able to play more games due to the nature of the steam deck similar to switch or not much changed? i am considering a steam deck in the future when i start a family and wanted to ask about your experience with the hand held thanks!

Tonytheswordsman

Are you keeping up your physical game collection? After cleaning up my room and preparing to move out I had to put some games in storage, I always loved having physical copies of media but lately I’ve mainly been just getting digital especially because most cases are just the download disc not a cool booklet. Plus I know some who sell off their records or games and “Grow up” or become “minimalists” and I really don’t think I could ever do it. So have you kept your games from childhood, did you get rid of most of them? Thoughts ?

Jeorin

Hola MinnMax crew, I watched the Reggie interview, and it kinda bothered me that he said he'd only do podcast appearances if there was money it. That leads into my question: If you no longer needed money, would you still be doing what you do? I would personally leave one of my jobs in a heartbeat, but the other I'd definitely keep doing even if there was no financial incentive.

BearCommando

Hey Ben, yes specifically you Ben, By choosing to read that joke during community questions last week you’ve opened up the kingdom to a floodgate of joke submissions that shall doth prove endless. To nip this in the bud, I’m going to present the pinnacle of jokes so that no one shall hath dare try to unseat it by submitting further. “What is the difference between a cat and a comma?” (Look away now those who wish to remain unsullied by the answer) “…A cat has claws at the end of its paws, and a comma has pause at the end of its clause.”

TheUnchartedWolf

Hey cohorts, I'm a little dissapointed that Soul Hackers 2 isn't getting as much love from the gaming press than I'd like. It looks absolutely incredible but the most it'll get in goty discussions is that one guy who's super passionate about it then quickly gets ignored. Do you think JRPGS will ever get more attention in GOTY discussions

DarkFishDays

What fictional video game from a movie or TV show would you want to play? I wish I could play that interactive game from Her with the voice responsive AI.

DJ Tommy Pizza

Sup MinnMaxxers, Has there been a case where talking about a game on a podcast or New Show Plus or some other content caused you to get back into it? I got back into Fortnite after the Hide & Seek episode a while back and actually got my first victory royale in solo no-build! Thanks, DJ Tommy 🍕

Charles Davis

I think I'm most looking forward to what I think could be a potential sleeper hit - 'Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora' I don't know about you but I am cautiously optimistic. I really hope it's not just a shameless mess of a movie tie-in, buggy as all hell, assassin's creed clone. What do you think it could have up its sleeve to make it stand out and make the world of Pandora engaging and rich with gameplay?

Hello Benny Hanson's Sushi and Japanese Steakhouse, I've recently dug out the 800+ page first-draft manuscript of my novel. I stopped working on the thing back in 2016, and stopped writing altogether about 2 years after that. I want to get back to working on my novel with the intention of having a final draft I can be proud of, and then to move onto other creative writing projects. The big issue is the thing is 800+ pages. I wrote ultimately what is a pretty complex narrative with lots of characters, moving parts, twists, world-building, and lore. It's not an easy thing to just jump back into and pick up where I left off. Editing in particular would be difficult if I had JUST finished the first draft; it's beyond intimidating coming back to the job 6 years down the road. My question is, how do I get back into the swing of things? With both finishing my novel and writing in general? I definitely don't want to leave this book unfinished. Reading through the first few chapters again reminded me how much I love these characters, and how I want to do right by them. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Specifically, how does one successfully balance a full time job, a relationship, gaming, and a creative endeavor? Maybe it's time to take a big break from games so as to be able to reimmerse myself in literature? Thank you for the consistently solid content and all your hard work. You guys really do kill it. Richard (No need to include it in the reading of the question, but the book is inspired by the likes of Metal Gear Solid 2, FFVII, Infinite Jest, and the writings of Lewis Mumford if there's any curiosity).

Hey Ben & CLCs, What is the greatest hoagie/sub/grinder/sandwich/whateveryoucallit build, and why is it roast beef & turkey, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and oil (no vinegar) on a seeded roll? The roast beef & turkey combo never lets me down. It’s hearty, but not over the top and won’t make me feel like I need a nap. Italian can be a solid choice, but sometimes I’m not in the mood for that tang. Swiss cheese is gross and provolone is king. I’ll die on that hill.

Joe Stone

Hey Ben and the gang, Missed joke opportunity: whenever Sarah Podzorski appears on the podcast you should introduce her as Sarah Podcastski. And the somewhat under the radar game I'm most looking forward to this year is Stray. Cats are cool, robots are cool, there is no way it won't be cool… right?

Bryce Blackmore

With all of the recent interviews Ben, which have been great, I am reminded how good of an interviewer you are. What are your (and anyone else who would like to share) tips to being a good interviewer?

Grant Campbell

Howdy CLCs, I did it. This weekend I beat the original Final Fantasy 7 for the first time ever. Having no experience with Final Fantasy and very little interest in JRPGs, I was surprised that it ended up being one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time. I'm not sure if my tastes have changed, if it just got me at the right time, or if FF7 is just that good. What are some games that you all have enjoyed despite typically not being interested in the genre or franchise? Much Love, Grant

John Lee

Salutations, What is love? Best, John

Hello MinnMax crew, I've been making my own top 10 games list the last few years, and it's inspired me to make a list of my top 10 favorite games of all time. Do you have any suggestions for how to rank? How should I rank games I loved at the time but don't like as much anymore? How about multiplayer games that I played a lot of but fell off? P.S. Please do a Max Spoilers for Everything, Everywhere, all at Once

James Pies

Greetings Minnimus Maximus, What 7 out of 10 games from last generation do you hope to see get the Assassin's Creed 2-like sequel treatment this generation? I personally would love a follow up to Dontnod's Vampyr from 2018 and was happy to see Greedfall (also published by Focus Entertainment) get another installment announced recently. I doubt we will be getting the next Mass Effect any time soon so I am glad to see the developer Spiders are working on scratching that old school Bioware itch. Stay frosty my friends and remember to never spend XP points on "Luck" Your bestest, James

In 1999 South Park aired an episode in which Rod Stewart tries to put on a concert but he's so old he poops his pants and just mumbles random words on stage. It's now 22 years later and Rod Stewart is still touring this summer. What was the saddest concert you've ever been to?

Zachary Kimmel

Ahoy Ahoy Ben and the Maxinistas! If anyone happened to catch it last week, a group known as Studio Stray Dog released a fan project "Legend - A Dragon Ball Tale" on Youtube that's not only brilliantly animated but also reinterprets the story and lore of Dragon Ball in a way that shows the series has a longevity outside the creative control of Akira Toriyama. I felt similarly with the release of Star Wars: Visions last year but do believe that the companies that own these major multimedia franchises are so mired in the legacy and profitability of these IPs that it begs the question, will "too big to fail" properties be able to have the same longevity and open reinterpretation as say classic novels or mythological stories? Moreover, is there a gaming or media franchise the panel would like to see taken in a new direction? Thanks and really appreciate all of the great work yall do! Zach

Tokyo Game Life

Dear Kyle, Please talk about ElecHead. Thank you!

Joemomma

Missed joke opportunity: Janet said portal 2 is a good sequel because they added gel. Someone could have said."'Chell' was in the first game." Then Janet could have said "Chicken Nugget!" and hoped on a jet ski

Muffyn Crumbs

Each of you name a game that you think no one else on the panel has heard of. If you correctly list a game that only you know, you get 1 point. First to 5 wins!

Collector//Emitter

What is your most anticipated game that will probably never come? It could be a cancelled game, a sequel or spiritual successor, or just a concept you think would be fun but has never been made. Mine is a sequel to or new game in the style of Bomberman Hero, the one odd Bomberman game that focused on a single player campaign and played more like a Mario game (with the most 90s drum and bass soundtrack).

Kyle

Hey guys, When playing any multiplayer games with friends do you prefer to play on a team cooperatively or against them competitively?

AnAttackCorgi

If you could make any game’s release day a recurring national holiday, where people could take the day off, which game would you choose? And how would people celebrate?

Damon from paradise

Missed joke opportunity from Ben’s interview with Jones. At the end he rated his sign off plug a 6… can’t believe you didn’t give it a letter grade after the bosman joke! C-

Super excited for Trek to Shrek. My neighbour had shrek 2 on the ps2 when we were growing up. The catch, none of us owned memory cards leading to multiple attempts at marathoning out shriek 2 until we managed to stop his mom from turning off the PlayStation by stacking stuff infront of it so she thought it was off. Do you all have any crazy marathon stories from growing up?

Andrew Rennolds

hey all Which video game company has the best logo?

Clayton Carroll

What was ya'lls first PC game? I remember going over to a family friends house in the 90's and they had a PC, which was still quite rare. They were financially well off, the husband being an electrician. PC's were quite expensive and didn't do much, and I don't remember knowing anyone else who owned one in the 90's. They had this game called Doom! It didn't even use the mouse, or maybe no one knew how to enable it in game back then. I remember being fascinated by it and not wanting to stop playing, even though it scared me a good amount. And I was pretty bad at it, being pretty young at the time. I was probably seven to ten years old.

MyNameIsDan

Hi everyone, If you were given the task at an arcade to come back with as many tickets as possible, what game or games would you play to achieve this goal? Even in my thirties I still have a love for traditional arcades and will make time to go when possible. My goal is to typically hit the jackpot on ski-ball (multiple times), As well as another game that I don't know the name of, but it involves throwing beanbags through rotating holes. Now I don't have a kid and the prizes are typically useless to me, but since my wife is a teacher we pick out some prizes for her students and then we give away the majority of our tickets to some random kid we pick when we are about to leave. Thanks, Dan

Gustavo Jander

Hey MinnMaxers, with all the talk about lists recently, it got me thinking: is there a game that you guys think slipped through the cracks? That you think should be in the discussion of best ever, but no one ever talks about?

Kyle Silva

Hey guys. I got a Better Quest goal. With The Oregon Trail Apple Arcade game having a new feature that tracks your steps and count them towards progress in an Oregon Trail walking game, I want to speedrun The Oregon Trail in 300 days. This would put me on an average of 10.7 km a day 6.66 miles a day. Hopefully I won’t get dysentery along the way.

Seangocongo

I've been playing Legend of Dragoon on my PS3 lately and I noticed something strange. The world map can be loaded from any disc, but as soon as you enter a specific location, you'll be asked to insert the correct disc. This is weird because most segments of the world map are specific to each disc. I was curious if anyone has any idea why this is.

Hey MinnMaxers, In a lot of games, movies and books there is a date set in the future such as 2099 or 2047 do you think that we will ever reach a time of the future with flying cars and holographic technology? What do you think might actually be in that future and how would gaming change?

Dpad Experience

Hi All, I'm a high school teacher and I have been approved to teach a 15 week elective on "The History of Video Games". It will be an hour each class, it will be once a week, and the course will run twice a year. My question is, what should I teach?!? My current thoughts are discussing the generations, influential people, and important moments. I'm thinking about including "Console Wars" to read as well. What do you think? What would you teach and how should I go about it? I've got all summer to develop my curriculum, and if you can help me out, I promise to add all of your names at the beginning of each lesson as "experts". Rick from Brooklyn
