Hi Ben, Kelsey, Jacob and Kyle! While playing Cult of the Lamb I've noticed a strange thing: TIME NEVER STOPS! This fact made the dungeon parts very stressful for me, as I was trying to rush my way through them just to go back to the cult to put everything in order. That reminded me of Stardew Valley - everyone said how relaxing it is, but I was anxious trying to return to bed on time. Did anyone feel that way? Did you experience other mechanics that made a game feel the opposite of what everyone says it felt like?

Matthew Goss

Hey B-b-b-benny and the Minnmaxettes (if you're reading this you have to do the Elton John voice.) I'm playing through Xenoblade Chronicles 3 right now and really enjoy the story but find the gameplay a bit of a drag. This has me almost wishing that XBC3 was an anime instead of a game. Do you have any pieces of media that you wish were of a different medium? Games to books, movies to tv shows, you get the picture. Thanks!

Nick from Atlanta

Hello Cohorts and Compatriots! After two and a half years, it finally happened: I got COVID. It super sucks! I've been more careful than most around me, but evidently not careful enough. How are y'all faring? Have you gotten it once? More than once?! Here's hoping this pandemic has an actual end soon. Thanks, Nick from Atlanta

Hi Gang. Have you ever seen a movie or game that was so unique or cool, that it immediately made you sad that you played no part in creating it? If so, what was it?

RickyWinterborn

is goku headshotting john cena with an assault rifle then dabbing on the haters good or bad?

Deep Space Trace

I recently tried beer for the first time at age 30. I was then tasked with describing to my wife what it tasted like, as she has also never tried beer and wasn't interested in tasting it. The best I could come up with was describing it as "saltine cracker water," which made it sound way worse than it actually tasted (I liked it!) So...how would you describe what beer tastes like to someone who has never tried it?

Geoff Enright

Hey MinnMax and nemesis JeffM, Alright, so stay on the train with me. I was listening to another podcast (I know...the betrayal!) TED Talks Daily and they were talking about soil. The important part is they were calling back to a dutch scientist named Antony Van Leeuwenhoek discovery of micro-organisms. He called them "the wee beasties." I distinctly remember in God of War 2018 one of the dwarves, Sindri, was extremely germaphobic. Sindri directly referred to germs/micro-organisms as "the wee beasties." So, my question is, have you accidentally been educated by a video game only to find out later? -Geoff aka Groffles

Good day Maximum Minnesotans and crew. Whats the worst gaming decision you've made, whether in a game or just generally about games? The one that comes to mind for me is from Christmas 1998. My best friends mom brought us to a local game store and told us we could each pick out one game that she would buy as our christmas gifts. My buddy Rob picked out Ocarina of Time, what would turn out to be an excellent choice. I picked Glover......

Hey Ben and crew! Many games, especially AAA have for many years attempted to create "powerful" speech scenes. The main character rallies NPC's to inspire them for a final showdown or to celebrate a great victory. What is striking with all these scenes is that most engines can't populate the screen with too many characters. What is meant to be a crowd of hundreds is most often 5-10 characters with maybe two different animations spread around. Can you recall any good speech scenes in a game? Thanks so much for the fantastic show and shout out to Trivia Tower, Mitch's journey was as SnowBike Mike would put it "insane" to watch!

secondrate

Do you have a "fake" flavor that you prefer to the "real" one? I love fake strawberry and fake grape, but the real ones just don't do it for me for some reason. On the other hand, I like real banana more than fake banana. Bonus round: is blue raspberry really raspberry flavor adjacent?

CptCobblePot

Hi Minnmaxers, I have been going through some of the old Deepest Dives, Mario 64 specifically, and that show doesn’t get enough credit on the internet. Great show and we’ll worth the $5.00 tier for the podcast versions. Anyway, I replay Mario 64 almost every year, along with a few other titles. What games do you see yourselves going back to all the time?

Jeremy Clark

Hello friends! Can you tell us how you met your significant other?

Chris Logan

Hey Ben and the 'Horts: Retro gaming can be an expensive hobby these days as the value of old games skyrocket on the open market. Let's take a look at some examples in a little game I like to call... Nintendough! For each pair of games released on a Nintendo console, can you guess which one has a higher value today? Mega Man Soccer on SNES or Disney Sports Basketball on GameCube? (Mega Man $80, Disney $165) Earthbound on SNES or Chibi-Robo on GameCube? (Earthbound $339, Chibi-Robo $170) Home Improvement on SNES or 3 Ninjas Kick Back on SNES? (Home Improvement $84, 3 Ninjas $123) Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door on GameCube or Battletoads on NES? (Paper Mario $76, Battletoads $30) Wayne's World on NES or Fester's Quest on NES? (Wayne's World $250, Fester's $8)

James Gameboy

Rollerdrome, schmollerdrome (I'm sure it's fun). Have any of you seen the late great James Caan in Rollerball? It's mostly like a movie!

MickManga

Slowly but surely I am getting pretty excited for Made In Abyss Binary Star Falling Into Darkness coming out next month. Typically movie/tv show tie in games go ignored or brushed off. Something I have been guilty of. But I say nay this time. It's time to let them shine. So my question is this. What are some upcoming licensed games you all are excited for?

Danielle3487

Hi, y'all! I've spent around 60 hours playing Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and have had an absolute blast so far! The combat is fantastic and the characters have really grown on me as the story progressed. The game has been scratching my mecha itch and with that said, if the MinnMax Cohorts & Contributors became Ouroboros what are some of the Ouroboros pairings and what would would your dominant form look like?

Clint Farley

Hey MinnMax, What kind of laundry person are you? A.) You turn your socks right side out when putting them in the hamper. B.) You turn them right side out when throwing them in the washer. C.) You turn them right side out when you’re folding laundry. D.) You’re a god damn monster who scrunches them into a ball when taking them off and put them through the whole wash and dry cycle that way.

PoorAndCurly

Hey Minnmax! We've had some solid action movies out this year (Prey, Top Gun Maverick) and it had me thinking about the classics like Die Hard and Terminator 2. Do you think there has been any action movies from the past couple of years that will obtain classic status and remain beloved for the next couple of decades? What aspects help make a classic, and do you think CGI not aging well holds newer movies back? The only recent movie that I can see as a classic is Mad Max Fury Road, and that's already 7 years old. Any ideas?

VDGMS

With the recent news that Tony the Tiger, of Frosted Flakes fame, will be the first branded VTuber on Twitch with his milk cooled rig and all (Obviously this feels wrong in many ways). The big question is was there a better cereal mascot for this job?

Mike Lynch

Hey y'all!  Have you ever had a great idea  (a project, a story, an article), and before you got around to it somebody put out the exact same idea into the world? (I more or less thought up Fight Club but could not figure how to make the Tyler Durden part work)

Matthew Porter

A few weeks ago, I was listening to the MinnMax show while rock climbing at my local bouldering gym. I was nearing the final hold of the route, about 15 feet off the ground, when while talking about Janet's recent marathon, she said "we should talk about that more." I started to laugh, which meant I expelled all of my oxygen and quickly lost all of my strength to hang on to the wall, and was forced to drop the whole 15 feet onto the mat below. Anyway, my question for you: has a podcast ever made you laugh out loud in public in an unfortunate location? Thanks all, love the content, keep up the great work!

Christian Jimenez

Hello, So they've added WaveRace 64 to the Nintendo Online Service, can I take credit for that?! Haha Will Janet get on a jetski during the trek to shrek? At least the digital one lol Thanks!

Harrison Holt

Hey MinnMax! I’ve recently been binge watching The Big Bang Theory, and I’ve really enjoyed it so far. It’s been a long time since I’ve watched a sit com properly and have a new appreciation for those bite sized episodes. Do you think that there is room for this model in the gaming industry? Like a new 20-30 minute experience every week? It could share themes or characters from previous weeks or be completely unrelated and brand new. Is this completely unrealistic from a production standpoint? Cheers, Harrison

Malcolm Holliday

Hey Minnmax! What do you each think fuels your own creativity?

Spencer Botine

Helloooooo CLCs! I got my Steam Deck last month and am currently flabbergasted at how much I love it! I just started delving into PC gaming this year and the new added mobile component to my existing library makes me salivate. I'm reaching a point where I may just dive head first into PC gaming - goodbye consoles! With Xbox providing their services equally to PC and Playstation becoming more lenient with sending their software to the platform, is the all-in-one console already upon us? Should we all just join the PC master race now?

Kevin Kuper

Hello! I have been playing live alive and, no spoilers, but was trying to do a pacifist run in the Edo Japan chapter and ran into a roadblock I couldn't figure out how to pass without violence. Eventually I caved and googled it to find decisions I made early are what was preventing me from completing the pacifist run. My question is, it seems in modern games things like this are much more rare, is this something that will ever make a comeback or have guides and the internet made these fun decisions and hidden options a thing of the past?

Jordan Holmdahl

Hi folks, Some show ended this week, and while I was immensely satisfied with the finale a cynical part of me wonders if I'm just a sucker for narratives or character arcs coming full circle and callbacks to previous storylines, and maybe this episode isn't really as good as I think. Does this make sense? Is that just what you call good storytelling? Am I a schmuck for overthinking my enjoyment of an episode I thoroughly enjoyed?

Spencer Jenson

Hi MinnMax. I have been thinking about how crazy it is that ben hasn’t seen E.T. Until recently and while listening to party chat (via the Patreon podcast feed) you talked about how much Star Wars is in the movie and it reminded me of a different film. Pokémon the first movie. When I watched E.T. and saw yoda it made me think of when in the Pokémon movie that ash questions team rockets disguise when they pretend to be Vikings and brock mentions it’s weird that there are still Vikings and Ash says, “They mostly live in Minnesota” I thought it was weird how some films will make these references so confidently. What piece of media has the most in your face real life reference that has stuck with you?

Fatt Mish

Hi MinnMax people. What is your favorite thing to do before going to sleep? Is it something that makes you tired or something you do out of habit. Love the show. -Mars

Francis Mogote

What's up, party people! Do you currently, plan to, or have thought about playing a free-to-play game? Would you spend money on cosmetics? I've always been curious about Fortnite but hated the idea of building. I finally decided to give it a try ever since they released the No Build modes and I'm having a blast (won a few times destroying these kids!). I don't plan on spending any money since Epic already makes a gajilion dollars, but the recent release of Dragon Ball skins is reaaaaallllly pushing over the edge. Huge maybe, but not quite.

tamekitty

Hey MinnMax, A few weeks ago, Ben said he wished he had recorded his early internet experience on video, in order to see old UI and just how slow his internet was in the age of dial-up. Two questions: 1. (For Ben) Why not record yourself using the current internet for future you? 2. (For All) What interfaces, for games or otherwise, do you think you might be nostalgic for in the future. A couple examples that come to mind: current VR tech, battlepass presentation, "standard" controller layouts. Love the podcast, tamekitty

CaffeineDad

Hey, MinnMax! Do you know what time it is?! It’s back to school time! Before you boo me off: I’m a teacher and legitimately love my job! I get to make fun lessons, help my kids overcome challenging questions, and see them grow as thinkers and people, so there’s a lot to love! BUT video games don’t love us all that much. There aren’t too many great teachers in games… so my question to you all is: who’s your favorite teacher in gaming? Feel free to stretch the meaning of a “teacher” as much as possible. My choices would be Wonder Red from “The Wonderful 101” for actually being an elementary school teacher and all of the Professors from Pokémon for having faith that their students can actually overcome the impossible challenge of filling in the Pokédex. Love the show!

Jared B

There was a big discussion last week about rogue likes and rogue lites. Why not just call them rogue likes and hades like? Rogue likes cover the games with no progression between runs and Hadeslikes covers the games with progression. It means no more confusion AND further cements Hades as game that’s important to gaming

MakeItUnclear

Hey gang. When considering the greatest epics from a film perspective, we often think of older movies - Spartacus, Ben Hur, Gone with the Wind, Lawrence of Arabia, etc. - that astounded with practical effects and casts of thousands. There's something more vibrant and magical about huge crowds and practical effects when we know they're real, not computerized recreations. It got me wondering: What are the "practical effects" of video games? The products of a bygone era of gaming that have since been replaced with higher-tech, smoother, but less-charming solutions? One example might be turn-based battle systems in classic JRPGs that were a clever simulation of combat on limited hardware, compared to the often more real-time combat of modern games. Pixel art and chip tunes may qualify as well, but those are often simulated today out of nostalgia. What do you all think?

Hi Minnmax Crew! My main reason for writing is to shout out Kelsey’s store Pink Gorilla Games. My wife and I spent our honeymoon in the Seattle area and took the time to drive across town to visit the University location and were blown away by how cool it was and how awesome the store staff were. We bought shirts and stickers and had a blast; and even though I got carpet bombed with seagull poop earlier in the day it still ended up being one of the best days of the trip, thanks in no small part to Pink Gorilla Games! I was wondering though, since my wife and I got so many funny looks when we told people our honeymoon was going to be in Seattle (and since Ben recently went on his honeymoon too), do any of you have dream trips you want to go on? As Floridians Seattle is about as exotic as it gets, and beaches seem super boring, so that was a dream location. What are yours? Or, alternatively, have you had any particularly weird or cool trips you’ve been able to go on? Thanks! EnragedPlatypi

G'day Minnmaxers, you ever pick up a game thinking this looks like a cute chill relaxing game only to find out it might not totally be that? This happened to me recently with Kena: Bridge of Spirits. Was loving exploring to world, solving puzzles and collecting hats for my cute little rot friends and them BAM boss fights that just kick my ass. It's really wasn't what I was looking for in this game and has soured my opinion of it

Alexi

Hey Minnmaxers, So with gaming epics in mind and having randomly thought of this I've come up with a game. (Working title: Developer Swaps) Rules are.... you must, from the list of developers and their most notable games below choose another game for each developer to take over for the sequel. Each developer must have swapped by the end and preferably the final list will be unanimous. (If you want to make it harder every studio you change must swap with with the new games corresponding studio.) Naughty Dog.........................Uncharted Santa Monica......................God of War Insomniac................Ratchet and Clank Super Giant.................................Hades Ubisoft.......................Assassin's Creed Housemarque..........................Returnal EA...............................Jedi Fallen Order FromSoftware......................Elden Ring Square Enix......................Final Fantasy Atlus.........................................Persona Thanks again. GLHFLG!

Frankie Roughknight

Hello! I just went back to the Deepest Dive of The Last of Us Part 2, & it got me thinking… How did you decide on your favorite games? Was it because the game challenged you emotionally, was it fun to play, or did it just feel like it was tailor made for you? TLOUPT2 really put me through the ringer, & I love it for that, but a game like Nier Automata felt tailor-made for me.

MyNameIsDan

Hey crew, What 80s movie would you like to see become a modern video game? I'd love to see The Goonies made into a fully fleshed out action adventure game with today's technology. Thanks, Dan

Eric Merrill

What’s the objectively worst game in your personal top 5 of all time? Top 10? Top 20? How far down until you hit a legit bad game that you just love.

Nick Friendt

Hey all, Are release dates announced too soon? I think it’s kinda silly these days since almost everything gets delayed anyways. I guess I’m of two minds though, since we haven’t heard anything about Silksong for a million years and I’d take even a fake release date at this point! Release dates, like ‘em or leave ‘em?

David Edgar

Howdy MinnMax crew. I have a question/humble brag. Have any of you ever tried climbing an online score board for a game to reach first place? If so what game? Geometry Wars? Resogun? I managed to reach first place for Hyper Meteor on the Playdate! Now I know how A.S.S. must have felt at my childhood arcade.

Josh Elliot

Hey MinnMax, love all the work you do! I looked at the Steam Chart for Babylon's Fall and have seen there has only been a peak concurrent player count of 12 players in the last 24 hours. Seeing that, I thought to myself "Statistically speaking, I have a chance to become the best Babylon's Fall player in the world if I really wanted to". Completely absurd thought, given that I highly doubt I will ever play that game. My question is: what game do you think you could become the best player in the world in?

austin nickelson

Hey minnmax, seeing games like neon white and rollerdrome having high replayability because of leaderboard chasing amongst friends, do you see this as a rising trend or just stay niche amongst these titles?

Cyrus

Hey Minnmaxers! Glad you are talking about Xenoblade Chronicles 3. The moment I started it I basically fell in love with it and now around 40 hours that feeling didn't stop for a second. That leads me to the question: What's your favorite 1st hour in a game? Which game really grabbed your attention from the start and never let go like that?

Luca Alberti

Hey MinnMax panel! Yesterday The Pokémon Company Interantional made a pledge to donate 25M dollars over the next five years to "organizations that improve the lives of children around the world and social equity." In recent years these kinds of pledges have become widespread in the industry, do you think as gamers we should push more for these massive companies to spend some of the money we gave to them to charities or is this just the extent they're willing to go for a PR stunt?

Shawn Mills

You've covered the greatest pieces of art in the past but I want to know what is the greatest painting of all time?

Funky Duck

Hey Ben and pals, I loved trivia tower this week! I thought Snowbike Mike brought great vibes and a lot of laughs, the two of which really intersected in the last round when he revealed that his phone lock screen is a picture of himself. I don't think we spent any time on that during the show, but the sheer confidence of it killed me. Anyway, what are your phone lock screens? Do you go factory default, family, pets, video games, snowbike Mike?

James Pies

Simple question, who are we taking down next in Trivia Tower? Easy Allies? The Spawn On Me community? May MinnMax reign supreme and let's go Mitch for a 3rd straight win!
