Hey Minnmaxers, For remakes I have to go with Sly Cooper. As for a question, in last weeks episode Jannett made a joke about a couple games being part of the main "food groups". Which got me thinking which games/genres actually make up the main "food groups" of gaming? Also as a treat what would be dessert? -Thanks, GLHF.

Hey there, When presented with a character creator is your first move to create a character with your likeness, or someone else's?

My Top 5 Games that Need Remakes -Power Stone -Mega Man Legends -Sonic Adventure -The Bouncer -God Hand (Honorable Mention) -Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town It’s tough to say because some games still hold up and others might benefit more from a remake. It seems like they want to remake games that were already good but add updated graphics and modern gameplay. Do the best games need remakes? I think they should at least be more accessible on current gen consoles.

I started playing jet pack joyride 2 and was pretty disappointed. It’s on Apple Arcade so there are no micro transactions yet this thing is built like a f2p trope machine. It’s full of Currencies and timers and leveling stuff up to get farther. It feels like they made a f2p game then apple handed em some money so they just ripped out any actual money transactions with the player. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen this in games. it’s almost more off putting to have a game designed with all those garbage mechanics and not actually be a f2p thing. Thoughts?

Hey MinnMaxers! After watching a few video versions of the podcast, I noticed that JeffM always uses the same mug and it got me wondering if that's "normal." I myself have a whole cupboard full of mugs that I cycle through every morning but I have some friends that have their one trusty mug they use everyday religiously. So my question is, do y'all use a different mug everyday or is there one special mug that's just better than the rest?

Noble Einherjar

Howdy. There are a ton of games I'd love to see remade but today I'm going to go with Darklands, a mostly low-fantasy RPG for DOS. Your rolled characters by charting the course of their lives before they became adventurers, and this even determined things like whether they could read or write, with being able to read and write Latin being a different skill entirely. Gameplay was a mix of stat-based CYOA-style vignettes and real-time tactical battles. But the controls are clunky and unintuitive even compared to something like D&D's Pool of Radiance a few years prior. Honestly the remake could look exactly the same as the original, I'd be happy so long as it was easier to play. My question is: Has there ever been a game that helped you finally understand a genre or other gaming concept that other games failed to adequately convey? For me, it was Chrono Trigger, which I jokingly call the game that tricked me into loving JRPGs. Maybe it's because I was too young at the time, but the first JRPGs I ever played were Breath of Fire 1, and Lufia 1. In both games, I couldn't understand why enemies were invisible before encountering them, why my characters were just standing still instead of trying to avoid damage, and why I couldn't attack whenever I wanted. Then I played Chrono Trigger, and that game's design taught me about random encounters, turn-based combat, and stat-based video games in general. I've been a fan ever since.

All the writers from a TV show/movie franchise/game series all mysteriously disappear. You are tasked with filling in for them. What property could you get away with writing so the audience don't even notice?

PhillyYeetSteak

Let's get morbid for a second... If you had to guess, at what year would more gamertags/accounts belong to deceased people than living people?

James Pies

Hey MinnMax! Two of my favorite games of all time that could really use remakes are Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Sounds like a slam dunk, doesn't it? What could go wrong? Thanks for being the best competitor to "Hideo Kojima presents Brain Structure." Stay frosty, James

Bob Buel

Howdy Hanson and the Re-Pacs, What's the earliest game that you remember finding a cheat or secret in? Not one that you read in a guide or anything, but truly discovered on your own that blew your mind?

Tonytheswordsman

Wazzup! Inspired by the travelogue, what are some amusement park rides that are a NO-GO for you? Rollercoasters? Spinning rides? Scary ones? Personally anything that puts me upside down in the air is an automatic NO-GO for me Thank you! Ps. Now I wanna make a trip to try that juicy Lucy

Clint Farley

Hey MinnMax, What’s a joke structure/format you think should be put into retirement? Personally I think all variants of “I’m playing a little indie game, you might have heard of it, called Starfield.” This joke format is overused, especially when you listen to a lot of gaming podcasts.

Michael Berry

Hey Minnmax! I have a water tower near my house. Everytime I see it, I envision it uprooting from the ground and stomping around shooting lasers everywhere. Kinda like the alien machines from War of the Worlds. Is there anything in your life that always manage to awaken your imagination when you see it?

Garrett Wainstock

Remake Billy Hatcher, Dark Summit, Geist, or Lost Kingdoms thank you.

Nick from Atlanta

Hello Cohorts and special guest Chris! Missed joke opportunity last week when talking about a Pokémon game set in Minnesota. Janet said Pokémon Minnesota would be the one nobody wants, but nobody mentioned that you could easily have Pokémon Minneapolis and Pokémon St. Paul. Along those lines, if Minnesota was the next region, what's a regional variant Pokémon you'd see? Thanks, Nick from Atlanta

Nathan Paxton

Hello Minn Max!! Despite the fact that I like to see as little about games before the release as possible, it’s exciting to see God of War: Ragnarok as GI’s cover! This kind of raised a question for me however. PlayStation has been very tight lipped about recent releases, only showing little bits until close to release (HFW, Returnal come to mind). Do you think this may be due to how prevalent leaks have been, and how detrimental said leaks have been to games like TLOU2? Have a great rest of the week everyone!

bizkiut (Nick S.)

What was your favorite cartoon as a kid? Does it hold up now? One of the top ones for me was probably Scooby Doo and most of those still hold up.

Kyle Silva

Hey guys. I have a question for Kyle this week, if he doesn’t mind talking about his main-job on the show. Gamespot has announced that they’re hosting a mobile game showcase next Thursday, September 8th. Its a showcase dedicated to mobile game trailers and reveals, with some of the biggest and most interesting game publishers involved, like EA, Ubisoft and Netflix. As the mobile games editor over there at GameSpot, how involved are you in this showcase and what is it like to help organize this Direct-like stream in your point of view?

RedMption

Hey MinMax and Chris. Just want to take the change to thank Chris for their work on their work on the Cowabunga Collection. I've played around the bonus material in the turtle with a big goofy Michelangelo smile going over the material. It's super cool, and really nostalgic seeing some of the old advertisements that use to appear in gamepro and the back pages of comics. Do you have any dream projects you'd like to see this kinda of material gathered for?

Brian Ventura

Hi MinnMax I think closing credits offer a great moment of satisfaction after finishing a good game or movie, but I feel oddly guilty when I skip them sometimes. I feel like I should be soaking in each name out of respect for their work, but ultimately the big list of names just washes over me. Do you all skip credits?

'Take a seat' - Chris Hansen, the host at Chili's

HBO's The Rehersal is probably the best show I've seen on TV this year. If you guys had near unlimited budget to rehearse either something coming up in your lives or something you've done in your past, what would it be?

Tokyo Game Life

Hi MinnMax, For “games that need remakes”, Panzer Dragoon Saga immediately comes to mind. Only a few thousand copies were made for the west, but those who played it say it’s among the greatest JRPGs ever. Sega lost the source code so any remake would have to be from the ground up, which sadly makes a remake unlikely.

randomlyrossy

Hey Maxminners, I find that whenever Ben talks about "tiers" when going over the Patreon I think about "tears" as in crying and it takes me a second to realise what he's talking about. Are there any random words or phrases like that which you tend to automatically think about one way regardless of context?

Kevin Kennedy

Hi MinnMaxers, My wife and I are planning our daughter’s 4th birthday. It’s at some kind of indoor jungle gym. It had me thinking… What was the best birthday party you ever went to as a kid? Chuck-E-Cheese was always a classic. Arcade games, tickets, and pizza. Tough to beat. There was a local place near me similar to Chuck-E-Cheese but it had moon bounce laser tag. That was peak birthday parties for me as a kid.

AnAttackCorgi

Yo yo yo my Horts! What’s up? Oh… hi Kyle 👋 Didn’t see you there. UwU What is your ideal videogame adaptation of Akira? Who would make it? To open this up for the rest of the panel, replace “Akira” with your favourite Anime. Cheers Cohorts and have a great week!

Joe Garifo

Hello hello! I thought your conversation with Janet about what games you do and don’t finish during party chat was really good and it got me wondering if you have a gaming white whale? Mine is playing through the Halo series chronologically. Has Ben gotten his by getting to play Live Alive? Or is there something else out there eluding you?

Victor Pham

What constitutes a good remake?

CptCobblePot

Greetings Minnmaxers, What’s up with all these killer indie games this year? I know every year seems like a year for indies, but I gotta say this year is top level. Cult of the Lamb, Tunic, Stray, Bear and Breakfast, Nobody Saves the World, newly released TinyKin. I can’t keep up! Do that thing that podcast people do and discuss this. Thanks crew!

Brainfreeze

There's lots of old PC games with clumsy controls and compatibility issues on modern PCs that basically no one plays without researching and downloading mods anymore anyway, so they seem like the perfect games to remake imo. Fallout 1 + 2 are the ones I'd most like to see myself, either made for modern systems with some of those mods built in, or even made to play like modern Fallout games sorta like RE2 remake.

Christopher C. Castillo

Howdy, cohorts! My game that NEEDS a remake is BioShock. Do you remember when 2K sold us that BioShock remaster the other year and told us it was remade from the ground up? That was completely untrue, as it was simply ported to a newer version of Unreal with geometry mistakes, texture issues, and bugs intact. Not to mention all of the audio work was completely broken. I genuinely consider it the worst way to experience BioShock, and that's coming from a guy who first played through it on a laptop that could barely hit 30 fps with medium settings back in the day. I've never been able to recommend the remaster in good conscience because of how botched it is, which is a shame given its legendary status. Reviewers at the time seemed to ignore the glaring issues, simply stating that it was the same masterpiece with new seaweed outside the windows. I always wondered if they actually played through the remaster or just tried the first two levels and called it a day. Given how 2K handled the GTA remasters and cancelled other Rockstar remasters, do you think we'll ever get a proper, from-the-ground-up remake of BioShock on Unreal Engine 5? Or are we forever stuck with this ghastly remaster as the "definitive" BioShock experience. Thanks! Y'all are the best! Christopher C. Castillo World's #1 Bioshock Fan™ (Seriously, google "world's #1 bioshock fan") (actually, please don't because that would be cringe) (but if I didn't want you to, then why did I leave that line in?) (hmmm) (¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

Graham Jones

Hey Minnmax crew, I was thinking about the epic games discussion from 2 weeks ago and wondering your thoughts on Quantum break as an epic game. It probably isn't in the top 5 but brings up an interesting discussion point as a game that had a TV show made a long side it and was largely considered a flop. I recently became a listener and am hooked! Keep it up with the awesome content!

Graham Jones

I would love to see a remake of the original Witcher game (with a full remake of the gameplay to update it to witcher 3 standards)

RickyWinterborn

Missed joke opportunity: last week Leo said "I saw them shooting a serious man" and ben just said "oh really?" when he should've said "Are you serious, man?"

RickyWinterborn

i think last of us 2 reeeallly needs a remake, that game is borderline unplayable, the graphics are soooo last gen, definitely how naughty dog should spend the next 5 years.

Shawn Mills

How is it possible we are in 2022 and we havent gotten a remake of Seaman? Imagine what Seaman would look like with today's AI capabilities.

Andy Dwyer

For games that need a remake I would say most games from the N64 and PS1 era would benefit since early 3D graphics and controls have not aged well in my opinion. A question I have related to remakes is what do you feel makes the gaming community so unique that simple rereleases are often seen as a cash grab? I feel like publishing new editions of books or putting a movie out in a new format, doesn’t get the same level of negative response as doing the “bare minimum” of porting games to new consoles does.

Brett N

G'day Minnmaxers One of my favourite racers on the N64 is"Beetle adventure racing". It's an awesome racer made by EA that had some great adventure(as the names suggests) elements to it. A while after it came out i remember see another N64 game called "HSV Adventure Racing" and was always curious about what it was. I recently got my hands on a copy and Turns out it's was a special release of the game exclusive to Australia and New Zeland. It's the exact same game but all the volkswagen beetles are replaced with Holden special vehicles (A sub brand of the now defunct Australian car brand Holden) and the voice over redone by some Crocodile Dundee wannabe. It seems so strange that EA would make a second version of this game for such a tiny market and its wild that the did it. Do you all know of any other odd regional versions of games like this? Or is there any game you'd want to see get this treatment?

LlorchDurden

Games that need remake ? Special Nintendo edition , in no particular order , avoiding the mandatory "all zelda , all mario games on the switch!" - Eternal Darkness (on the GC ,forgotten gem) - Paper Mario (the original with the new engine) - Any/All Factor 5 Star Wars games (all forgotten, this one seems impossible)

Shimmy Neutron

Oi mates. Remake selection 1, Bujingai by Taito. 2, Chaos Legion by Capcom. 3, Legend of Dragoon ofcourse. But more importantly quick q for Kyle and Jeffm. I think Paranoid Andriod is the best rock song ever. Am I crazy? Am I a poser? Do you two look at that song or the album its on and think "not as good as the old stuff" or could it be a proper recognition of how great that band is?

Thian Benton Fieulaine

Hello there! I am about to come into possession of a PS5, and was wondering what is the best game to introduce me to the true next gen experience?

Joe Stone

Helloooo, For the last couple of months I've had a bit of a lull in my gaming habits, just not having a strong desire to play anything even though there are games that have come out recently I know I'd enjoy. Then the other day, as research for a work project* I had to play some FIFA. I've never been a big fan of sports games, and don't really follow football (uh, I mean 'soccer') too closely, so I was even more surprised when I got completely addicted to it, particularly the manager career mode. It's incredibly compelling and satisfying, and has now become my nightly schedule. It's also got me a lot more excited about playing games again in general, and I downloaded Cult of the Lamb – one of the aforementioned recent games I know I'd enjoy. Have any of you ever been drawn back into gaming after a lull via an expected game, or a genre you don't usually play or enjoy? Thanks! * I'm a freelance graphic designer who often works in sports marketing and sometimes video games, hence the need to play it for research.

henrik mortensen

I would like a remake of both Metal Gear 1 and 2 as one game in the style of MGS5!

Dominic Paganelli

How about instead of game remakes that usually improve the graphics, I would like to see a remake tackle a game that had serious potential but was hindered by significant performance issues. One that comes to mind for me is Kingdom Come: Deliverance, a game I'd love to love, but is very rough around the edges.

Fred Dinovo

Give the people what they want, Silent Hill 2 and/or 3 actually built from the ground up to be a good remake rather than what Konami farted out a decade ago

Donald's Cloaca

You ever think of all the money Konami is just leaving on the table? Put aside the bigger dreams like Metal Gear remakes or a new Silent Hill. Metal Gear Solid 1, an all-time classic, is unavailable for purchase on any modern console, and the PC Port removes iconic moments like Psycho Mantis reading your memory card. MGS2,3, Peace Walker, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance are all unplayable on PS4/5. You can’t play MGS4 on anything but a PS3. Even if Konami is a cartoonishly profit-driven company, aren’t they just stupid to not be selling these games?

Nate

What’s the worst car to control in gaming.

Sam Morrow

Hello MinnMaxers. As members of the industry, you are fortunate to have played countless games over the years. With that in mind I was wondering, what is the best feature in the absolute worst possible game that you’ve played. I’m not asking for a cool feature in an ok game, I want an idea or feature that carried or nearly redeemed an absolute broken game.

Royal Mudkip

Hello Miny Max and friends! Red Dead Redeption 2 amiright? I've never had a game play with my emotions so many times in direct result from following the games protagonist, Arthur Morgan. From his evolving relationship with his gang, the changing world, and his horse you see so many examples of a torubled man fighting his past do to what's right as , * SPOILERS**SPOILERS* SPOILERS FOR RED DEAD 2*** He knowingly spends his last days, after being diagnosed with ,at the time no cure, tuberculosis. That ending tore me apart. You say your goodbyes, your horse dies in the middle of a heated battle, which messed me up so much I was balling at my controller. Arthur Morgan a dying man in more ways than one, scarafices his life to give the opportunity to give others the chance to live a life away from crime and the poison that was Dutch. What game had you come to tears or had you so emotional that it stuck with you to this day? Peace! :)
