Hey everyone, If you were to play one and only one assassin’s creed what is the one to play that truly captures the spirit of the series ? (Could do other series as well like Zelda, Mario etc)

Charles Davis

I've never been to a PAX cos i live in the UK BUT I do remember the penny arcade comics and 2 player production docs being the first validating and reassuring signs of gaming becoming a sub-culture. It served as a window into a world outside of my own that I felt I could finally belong to and I really hope I can one day go to a convention like that. What moments in your life do you feel have validated your interests?

Hi everyone! After the Better Together stream last month, I checked out Fortnite Zero Build Mode and it turns out that I really like Fortnite. It also has me wondering: How big of a departure from a format does a live service game need to make to be eligible for GOTY considerations from games media? Thanks, Vince

Hey Minnmaxers, During last weeks The Last of Us Part 1 discussion, I was expecting someone to bring up Left Behind. Am I the only one disappointed that it didn't get packed into the main campaign instead of being a separate option in the main menu? I would of loved for the Left Behind content to be seamlessly integrated into the campaign.

Hello Minnmaxesotans, How much, if at all, do you talk to yourselves when you are alone? I do, quite a lot but Im not sure what anyone else does.

Styster

How have your gaming tastes changed as you've aged? Was there anything you found fun and enjoyable in the past that just doesn't hit the same anymore? How do you feel your tastes will change moving forward?

Joshua

Hi Everyone, Leo have you played Returnal yet? You gotta so it can be your 2nd best game of 2022 behind Hitman 3.

Royal Mudkip

Hello Miny Max and friends! Red Dead Redeption 2 amiright? I've never had a game play with my emotions so many times in direct result from following the games protagonist, Arthur Morgan. From his evolving relationship with his gang, the changing world, and his horse you see so many examples of a torubled man fighting his past do to what's right as , * SPOILERS**SPOILERS* SPOILERS FOR RED DEAD 2*** He knowingly spends his last days, after being diagnosed with ,at the time no cure, tuberculosis. That ending tore me apart. You say your goodbyes, your horse dies in the middle of a heated battle, which messed me up so much I was balling at my controller. Arthur Morgan a dying man in more ways than one, scarafices his life to give the opportunity to give others the chance to live a life away from crime and the poison that was Dutch. What game had you come to tears or had you so emotional that it stuck with you to this day? Peace! :)

What's the weirdest licensed game you've ever played? The new Rings of Power show reminded me that in 2002 Vivendi released a Fellowship of the Ring game based on the BOOK, not the movie. It was beyond terrible (Andy McNamara gave it a 3/10 for Game Informer), and it still boggles my mind that someone took that rich source material and said, "Make a quest where they pick weeds for Tom Bombadil. That'll get the people talking!"

Ian Miller

Salutations Ben and the MinnMax Gang, What are some game mehanics guaranteed to put a smile on your face and unlock that pure, seratonin-filled joy? For me, anytime an enemy gets stuck with a grenade and runs around aimlessly, wildly flailing their arms in terror will always put me in a good mood. Am I crazy? Is this a cause for concern? Wait, don't answer that.

Chris Logan

Hello Ben and the 'Horts! What do we think about collectibles in single player, narrative driven games? Because personally, it drives me nuts. I find it really breaks my immersion when I enter a new area and my first impulse is to walk in the opposite direction I know I'm supposed to just in case there's a hidden quarter in The Last Of Us Part II or a little artifact in God Of War. I know not everyone likes the Riddler trophies, but at least those are somewhat tied to the narrative and require a little more effort than checking every nook and cranny of the map. Am I just being grouchy and I should have the willpower to ignore these? Or is it lazy to include hidden collectibles with the sole purpose of adding another achievement to the game?

Sassy Little Imp

It’s easy to pinpoint “the golden age” for certain game genres in hindsight, but in the present, it always feels like the glut of roguelikes will never end. I thought it’d be fun to have the MinnMax crew play the stock market game with some genres and subgenres of games. The rules: For each type of game, you will “Buy, Hold, or Sell” its stock based on its current value. A genre’s value is determined by how good of a time it is to be a fan of that kind of game. Are developers regularly producing great games in this genre or is it reduced to one malware-riddle fan-made game a year? Buy if you think the prospects for fans of this genre will continue to rise, etc. etc. Some genre stocks to weigh in on (choose whichever you’d like to include) FPS Rougelikes Metroidvanias Deckbuilders Platformers Fighters Brawlers Point and Click Adventures FMV games Tactics games Annapurna-esque “Art” games Thanks!

ProcyonNumber6

Hey Benn and Friennds, What’s your favorite Tom Hanks movie?

Christian F.

Hi everybody! I hope you’re all enjoying your week in a big bad way. Am I nuts, or are there just too many battlepasses. * Seinfeld voice * Think of the children! A quick Google search shows more than 30 major games have ‘em. Am I nuts?! It seems every studio is going into battlepasses in a big bad way everybody. What do you think, everybody? AM I NUTS? Coverstorytrip.

Missed joke opportunity. When you asked how this whole thing operates you should’ve said turtle power

Premise: At 12:00 Noon, someone knocks on your door to announce that 1.They are stuck in a groundhog day-esque timeloop 2.They need your help to break out of said timeloop (Note:for any and all relvent interactions this person is completely sincere the entire time) All other things being equal, do you think you would be more inclined to believe someone who was a complete stranger, or someone you knew?

Aaron U

Hello all. Do you think you’ve encountered more locked doors in games than in real life?

AnAttackCorgi

Hi hi my immortal ‘Horts! Back when every gaming podcast covered Sifu, the number one conclusion was they wished the game was better, but it’s tough to slog through. What similar titles elicited this reaction, where you recognize a diamond in the rough but wish said diamond was more polished? Also, what are your Monthly game score predictions and why? Stay young, at least in the mind, y’all!

Phelix Diaz

Long time listener, first time caller here. I'm currently living in CO and there is not a big organized gaming culture over here. After seeing your travelogue I wondered: - How big is the gamer culture in Minnesota? - In your experience, what are the top 5 cities in the US for gamers? Keep on shreking!

Nathan Freeman

What game are y’all most proud of beating? I beat UN Squadron for SNES as a kid and still get a sense of pride from it.

CptCobblePot

Greetings Minnmaxers, What’s up with all these killer indie games this year? I know every year seems like a year for indies, but I gotta say this year is top level. Cult of the Lamb, Tunic, Stray, Sifu, Citizen Sleepr, Bear and Breakfast, Nobody Saves the World, Tinykin, . I can’t keep up! Do that thing that podcast people do and discuss this. Thanks crew!

Austin B Media

Greetings! With the Apple event this week, what would you really love to see Apple do to make gaming easier on Macs?

Gavin C

Hey why havnt Microsoft made a Gears of war TV show or movie franchise happen yet? There's been rumours about Dave Bautista being involved in a project for years but nothings has come of it. Dave would be a great Marcus Fenix, Terry crews would killed it as Cole Train, and Ryan Reynolds would be the perfect Baird. The original trilogy story is great and could compete with Sonys last of us show.

WeGoGiant

Howdy MinnMax, Death Stranding was added to Game Pass a couple weeks ago and I couldn't get enough. I just beat it last night and mostly loved the experience. However, randomly, something just occurred to me. This sprawling open world that's supposed to represent the entire continental US has almost no trees, shrubs, or bushes ANYWHERE! In the enemy camps there are areas of tall grass that you can hide in by crouching, and I can only remember one small section of the map that had a handful of trees in it, but what strikes me as odd is that I didn't even notice their absence at all during my 80 or so hours of play. Have you ever had a revelation like that after a game? The kind of thing that makes you say "why did I fail to recognize this really obvious thing until after I finished the entire thing?"

IanTClark

Several of the podcast I listen to have specific points where they tell the audience that they’re, “taking a break” and will be “right back.” Why do they do this? I get it if they’re taking an add break, but most of the time they’re just transitioning to a new segment. I never take a break when listening. Kudos to MinnMax for not putting “fake breaks” in any of their content. (Please use air quotes when reading).

Almost two years after launch, I finally own both a PS5 and a Series X. Now that I’ve had both for a while, I’m realizing that after months of work to save money and track them down, I STILL mostly just play my Switch (which I’ve had since 2017). With the SteamDeck being a huge hit, do you think the Switch and it’s staying power has altered the console landscape forever? Or will we see a shift *back* to traditional console gaming in the future?

Kevin Kuper

Hello CLCs! Does anyone ever have gamer guilt? Gaming is my primary hobby and I try and make sure I get some chores done and get some form of exercise in everyday before I allow myself to game but sometimes I still feel like I should be doing something more productive, or learning a new skill in my spare time. Is this a feeling anyone has had and how did you overcome it? Thanks for all the great content!

Garrett Wainstock

Would you rather have video games or outer space?

RickyWinterborn

i have game pass and got ps plus plus to play stray, and i feel like playstation's version has instantly got me playing more games and for much longer. obviously this is just because sony dropped with heavy hitters like returnal and miles morales, but do you think this could be trouble for game pass? i feel like they had a run there where gamepass was really novel and attention grabbing, but now that there's competition i feel like the hype is cooling off pretty quick...

'Take a seat' - Chris Hansen, the host at Chili's

The year is 2030. The open world action rpg genre is dead and gone. Consumers have made it clear there is only one genre they want to buy, the FMV game! Every popular gaming ip is being rebooted to fit the FMV formula. Which ip are you excited to see? I can't wait to pick up the new tetris, which is just clips of guys throwing bricks off of buildings into big piles!

Jake Z

What's the most philosophical game you've played? What did it make you think about?

Booher

I may just be really late to the party, but I cannot be the only one who didn’t realize netflix had free games for subscribers. I was randomly scrolling on my phone to look for something to watch and the games section came up for the first time this weekend. At first I was thinking it was just going to be their stranger things games and maybe a few smaller titles. Then I came across Before Your Eyes. I tried it out for a bit and seems to work pretty good on my phone. I will definitely jump in to do a play through after hearing how good the story is last year. Has anyone on the minnmax crew looked through the games available on Netflix? It also listed Into the Breach, which I am excited to check out

Duderado

Dear MinnMax, Some servers in World of Warcraft Classic have queue times of over 5 hours to log in during peak play times. This is pretty bad considering the "new" expansion Wrath of the Lich King launches in 3 weeks which will make the login queues even worse with an additional influx of players. How does a massive company like Blizzard let their darling game get to this state? Do they not care because people will continue to pay? Have the recent scandals diverted their focus? Or am I crazy in thinking that these issues shouldn't be present in a game that originally launched in 2008.

PhillyYeetSteak

Are minimaps good or bad as a whole? I hate how much time i spend looking at them instead of the actual screen.

Holden Hintz

Minntymax, Just got back from PAX West this weekend. Here is my top 5 games I played 1. Gunbrella 90/100 2. Demonschool 89/100 3. Shovel Knight Dig 88/100 4. System Shock 87/100 5. Wanted Dead 86/100 While listening to Janet’s Indie Showcase panel I couldn’t help but think, when does an indie team no longer qualify as indie? Obviously, when an acquisition from a large studio is made, but is it possible to just cease to be indie on your own from popularity and growth? Are teams like Finji and Humble Games no longer indie? Should we start using Double A to describe these teams that are in between indie and triple A?

BEEFCAKE

Close your eyes. Think back to around ten years old. What’s the first smell that pops in your mind?

Bob Buel

Howdy Janet and the other coupla fellas, Not counting the computer you are on right now or your phone, what is by proximity the closest video game to you right now?

Catpurrnicus

Hello MinnMaxers. Janet, I hope you enjoyed your trip to the Minni-apple, which we all call it. We even have a sculpture with an apple on a spoon, it's frequently mistaken for a cherry. Question for the group, what is the worst piece of advice you ever received and how did you react to it?

Empiric Unicorn

Hey CLCs! What is your worst user error in games? Mine is forgetting the right trigger lock on my xbox elite controller when I first played Outer Wilds. This made reaching escape velocity nearly impossible. It took longer than I would like admit to realize that the problem existed between controller and couch.

Mark Polley

What is the smallest thing in a game that has blown your mind? For me its a seen in the first last of us quite early on, in the rain - and you walk through a shipping container. And the sound of the rain changes as it echoes on the containers roof. Tiny thing that stuck with me, and on every replay I still notice it. Do you have any examples?

Ian

Who’s someone you look up to in the industry that you feel “does your job better than you do”? Be that podcasting, reviewing, video essays, whatever!

BearCommando

Hey Ben and the Shrek Trekkers, Making my way through the shrek 2 stream and hear you guys talking a bunch about the voice actors, which sent me down a rabbit hole of “what else did each of these characters voice?” Can you guess which of the playable characters (Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, Gingerbread man) actually did voice acting for the Shrek 2 movie? (Answer in a reply to this comment)

Harrison Holt

Hey MinnMax! I think everyone loves Gears of War's Lancer right? It's just a very cool design. But, if you could have any carefully crafted weapon that combined a melee and a projectile, what would it be and why? Cheers, Harrison

Richie Carrasco

Given the release of The Rings of Power and The House of the Dragon, is it better for us to ignore or to talk about the ignorant discourse around race/women. I’m not entirely sure where I stand on this, because I think we have argued about it enough, and there is nothing left to add to the conversation. But at the same time, ignoring people who deal with daily attacks seems counter-productive.

Sam Danby

Hello to the team at MinneapolisMaxeapolis - Do y'all think that services like Gamepass could make it more difficult for expensive, single player, games to get made? I was recently replaying The Last Of Us 2, and that game just feels expensive. With no multiplayer to buy skins for, and no plans for DLC, I was thinking that in say, 5 years time, a game like this might not get made if it's only real destination is to join a library of free games like Gamepass or Playstation Plus where it doesn't really have a direct path to making all the money that was spent on it back. I know Sony have said they're going to keep charging for new releases, but a lot can change in 5 years. What do you think?

Bob Kinnear

Hey MinnMaxers, I was at PAX over the weekend and played Tinykin because the art style really caught my eye. I’ve never played a Pikmin style game (nor Chibirobo) but am very interested in jumping into this genre now. Have you ever played a game at a convention that you thought wasn’t in your wheelhouse and just fell in love? Side note: Lies of P was my personal game of the show, still not sure about that name though. I had the pleasure of meeting Kelsey at the Pink Gorilla booth. I also saw Janet outside restaurant making a food vlog on the street and I didn’t want to interrupt her content to say hi, so “Hi Janet!”

Steven Toth

One of my favorite things about Assassins creed rogue is the shorter main quest supplemented by expansive side quests. All killer no filler! What is your perfect blend of game content for main-quest to side-quest? For me it is about 30/70. Thanks and byyyyeeeee

Donny Norlander

Hey Team! I recently re-binged a bunch of the YouTube videos on the Game Makers Toolkit channel and I was wondering: If you woke up tomorrow with all the tech skills and know-how necessary to develop a game, what genre of game would you be most interested in developing/designing? Alternately, what aspect of a game would you most want to work on? I would personally love to work on a first person immersive sim, like Dishonered or Bioshock 1. A specific aspect would be to work on a 'system' within an immersive sim or some other genre bending game like Breath of the Wild or Assassin's Creed. Lastly, thanks for making Minneapolis look so good! I'm proud to be from the same city as MinnMax and GI

Jeremy McPhail

Hey Minnmaxers - So, upcoming games to look forward to . . . A great deal of lists have Atomic Heart and Where Winds Meet. A Russian studio and a Chinese studio. Is it okay to get excited about these developer's games? I feel a bit off because Atomic Heart has been on my radar for years, but doesn't seem ethical to back a Russian studio in these times.
