Howdy Ben and the Weekends, I recently saw a post on Reddit about the days of the week. The post simply asks what’s the first day of the week? The question was very polarizing. On one hand the Calendar will tell you it’s Sunday. But common sense tells you Sunday is on the Week END so can’t possibly be the first day. Unless it’s the week ENDS and it is one of the end of each side of the week, putting it as the first day. Kind of like pieces of bread around a week sandwich. Anyway, the week clearly begins Monday and no one can tell me otherwise.

Recently started a replaythrough of dragon age origins and I was wondering if there were any origin stories in any media that you guys particularly liked, hated, think are stupid or funny?

The Pattycake (Patrick H.)

Hey MinnMaxers! My question is what makes for a good Demo? What kind of Demo makes you the most interested in a game's release?

TRUEfoe

Hi MinnMax, just curious what cool swag Imran brought home from Japan? And what was the weirdest thing he saw in Japan?

Aaron Hurd

What are each of the Maxies’ opinions on the debate between (1) leaks being wrong as they interfere with the development process and screw up PR beats, especially given that gamers seemingly can’t be trusted with early development footage, and (2) leaks are fine and posting said videos isn’t wrong, because we shouldn’t adhere to the PR beats of massive corporations and disrupting the secretive black box of AAA game design is a public good? I think I fall on Team 1 so not sure if I represented Argument 2 well enough, but you get the idea.

SunniDee22

Hello MinnMax, Is there a better/more consistent games publisher than Finji in the past 5 years? For Finji those games include: Night in the Woods, Overland, Tunic, and GOTY 2021 Chicory. Even considering the sheer quantity of other games publishers, publish I don’t think they compare to the consistency and quality they have published. Thanks for the great podcast! PS Finji would be incredibly interesting to interview.

Christian Jimenez

Hello, I recently came across a mash-up video of God of War’s stranger fight with Ed, Edd, and Eddy sound effects added in and it was hilarious. Are there any impossible cross-overs you would like to imagine, specifically with childhood shows and more mature video games? Like give me Powerpuff Girls x GTA or Courage the Cowardly Dog x Silent Hill! Thanks.

Virgil B

What was your first message to another person on the internet? I think my first message was on the Broadcast channel in City of Heroes where I boldly proclaimed, “LFG Level 13 Scrapper.”

Grizzled Gaming

Hey gang! Peanut butter & jelly or peanut butter & chocolate? Choose wisely. Also, tell Imran Grizzled Gaming says "hello", he'll know what it means.

Fatt Mish

Hello people of Minnmax! Do any of you have any unique gaming habits or preferences that are outside of what most of us would find normal? For example, when I play PC games I usually use ESDF to use instead of WASD, especially in online shooters. Just curious. Keep up the wonderful work. -Mars from Minnesota

Joseph Stanichar

Hey Minnmaxers! Are video games still the newest medium or has something new come after it? Does VR count as a new medium, or is it just a platform to view other media? What could the next medium even be???

Jaketrix

Fall is almost here! I challenge all of you to pick one game for each season. Narrow it down to the definitive four if you can. For example, a game that might scream summer vibes would be Wave Race 64.

Denham Harry

Gang, every weekend I see the MinnMax account tweet the same information: A buttload of us, the best (most thorough?) community on the internet are playing Destiny 2. Well I want to test your knowledge on your beloved communities favourite game AND maybe sell you all on it. I know Imran is smart and has good taste and already plays so hope you enjoy the easy win: LETS PLAY DESTINY 2RUE OR FALSE! Question 1: There are characters in Destiny 2 that are aware they are in a video game and are trying to escape by planting themselves in the players memories. (True: Although they aren't quite aware they're in a game, they are aware the players exist.) Question 2: There is a gameshow mode recently added in the Bungie 30th Anniversary celebration that is hosted by both Xur, a servant of the Nine, and a regular human in a dog costume. (False: it's hosted by Xur and the STARHORSE, a cosmic entity that grants various boons but can only communicate in various Infinite Neighs or Entropic Brays.) Question 3: Destiny 2 has the best implementation of live service elements in all of gaming! (SO INCREDIBLY TRUE: 2 new game modes every season, quality of life updates, fully voiced cutscenes and the BEST seasonal storylines that have literally made this grown man cry. It astounds me that other games haven't even come close to this level of content or polish with their seasonal model. Anyway, thanks for participating in my rambling and be grateful I didn't do it on my actual favourite series: Kingdom Hearts. Thanks for the amazing pod!

MarriottPlayer

Hello MixxMann! Has a real life setting in a video game (or interpretation of a real life setting, like in the GTA series) ever colored your view of that setting outside of the games? Thanx for all you do!

Malcolm Holliday

Hey MinnMax! I hear y'all say "podcast game" alot on the show, I'm curious if you ever been torn to mute a game(in order to listen to podcast) because the music/sound design is actually really good or have you ever beat a game and found out after the fact that it has amazing music/sfx?

Ben Shively

What was the last E3/State of Play surprise announcement that had you screaming and jumping for joy? RE4 remake’s announcement had me running around my living room in excitement.

Bryan Tylec

Hey everyone, Who do you think is the best sidekick in a game? I recently played Disco Elysium and I can't think of a better right-hand man than my boy Kim Kitsuragi, defeating longtime champion Lance Vance in a surprise upset. I mean...this is the only game I've ever played where I made decisions based on whether or not I could still look an NPC in the eye after making them, so it's gotta be him, right?

Andrew George

Hey Minnmax, SquareEnix recently announced a line of articulated action figures of the cast of Final Fantasy 7 based on the Nomura’s art from the original game (not the remake). As a big action figure collector myself these are exactly what I am looking to add to my collection. The one drawback is there is no way to purchase the physical figure without also getting an NFT of the figure. This artificially inflates the price and forces fans to buy into a system they might be morally against if they want the figures. Is there any videogame merch you have always wanted and if so what is your cutoff point on getting the stuff you really want? Thanks and I hope everyone has a fantastic day!

TheUnchartedWolf

Hi Imran Khan, and Minnmax I guess. Considering we're in the final stretch of the year, what's a game that's been revealed this year that you wish more people talked about or you completely forgot was revealed. For example, I thought the Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer was a collective fever dream we all had at once, but it is in fact real.

Dustin Davis

What's the funniest thing you've seen a pet or animal do in person?

CptCobblePot

Hey Minnmaxers, With Ben on a streak of hitting most of the joke opportunities now, when can we expect a downfall into just pure fart and poop jokes? Will we ever get to a point where you just make a fart noise because you are nervous about missing a joke? When does this joke nonsense end?!?

PhillyYeetSteak

Any of you get weird games from weird places? As a kid, I got a Doom clone from Taco Bell on a floppy disc. I also got a Tonka truck licensed Tony hawk clone from a scholastic book fair (your conversation on the Indiana Jones deepest dive reminded me of this!).

Solarlancer

Hey Minnmax, I just finished a trio of RPG’s the last couple of months (The Legend Of Dragoon, Live A Live & Yakuza Like A Dragon). I was thinking of a smaller game next such as the Titanfall 2 campaign, I heard it has the best FPS story campaign, what do you guys think, is it the best? If not what is better.

Sam Morrow

Hello cohorts! I’ve just started the early process of retro game collecting. I’m trying to collect some of my favorites from my childhood and see if the games still hold up. With this in mind, I was wondering what the most your opinion of a game has changed over time? Has a game you disliked climbed your list years later? Or has one of your favorites from the past lost much of its charm years later?

Spencer Jenson

Hey minnsters and maxters? I was listening to Andrew Reiner on the all things nintendo podcast and Reiner said that everyone kept asking him if there were helicopters in the new GTA game when they had coverage back in the day. My question to the panel is, why are helicopters cooler than motorcycles? Keep up the good work!

Garrett Wainstock

A few weeks ago y'all responded to my comment about Dark Souls barrel mechanics. It was a nice surprise! Though, it wasn't a very good comment compared to the others that week. I didn't know why it was picked at first. Then, later I realized something. Ben, did you pick my comment just because you wanted to talk about the barrel that you bought to play with? Be honest! (thanks guys. be well and have a nice week)

Jeorin

Howdy MinnMax and friend Imran, Has a game made you laugh so hard you started crying? Curse of Monkey Island got me cry laughing during the unstoppable pirate song bit. Really looking forward to playing the new Monkey Island!

Shawn Mills

What type of enemy is your favorite to fight against? Nazis, zombies, aliens?

Tilted Krow

Well howdy Lads with all this Hullabaloo over GTA 6 and potential new features it got me thinking. What is in your opinion the best and worst single feature rockstar has implemented in the history of the GTA/red dead franchises. Thanks and keep up the amazing fun attitude

KickinIt

Hey all, last week Kyle threw out You Must Build a Boat as the best match three game. Well I bought it and guess what? It's amazing! My question is: are there any other "best in class" mobile games that I should have known about? Is there a best tower defence game or a best endless runner? A best turn-based or tactics game not named Into the Breach? Please Minnmax, give me the goods!

KiwiTheGoo

Hello MinnMaxers, I recently found out that 2021 GOTY Bravely Default 2 has a card minigame. I love a good minigame, especially a CCG in RPGs. It got me thinking, what is the best minigame within a game? Triple Triad jumps to mind, because of how you can use it to get rewards that crossover to the main game, but what are your favorites?

Ryan

Hey all, I don’t have a question really, just wanted to show my appreciation for Imran. I’ve always appreciated his insight on topics and how well he seems to mesh extremely well with any podcast group he joins. I hope he knows how loved and valued he is by the people who read or listen to him. I hope he lands on his feet quickly so we can get more of him.

Stephen Woodson

No question here, just happy to hear from Imran. Wishing him all the best.

SUPER-STATUS

Whats up, everyone?! Hey Ben, didn't JeffM say he had found and picked up some chairs sitting by the side of the road not too long ago? He knows you've been looking for chairs. Why hasn't he offered to donate them to the studio?!

Ryan Foshee

Howdy folks! So get this— I’ve been trying to apply some of the tips that Janet and Kelsey gave last week to my Splatooning and, wouldn’t you know it, I’ve been seeing some genuine improvement online! It’s almost like pro gamers give pro strats only… anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for the advice and to throw more flowers at Splatoon 3 which is definitely a GOTY contender for me. That said, I primarily play alone, and I know the Splatoon experience would be elevated by joining in with a community…. BUT I haven’t engaged on discord because 1)I’m not that good and 2)have pretty bad social anxiety. Any advice or words of encouragement to help me push myself out of my comfort zone? Thanks regardless and have a beautiful day!

Ronn

Dear Convoluted Story Tellers, please hear me out. For Kingdom Hearts 4, I would like to suggest the Cars universe as one of the new worlds. They could use the plot from the first movie and the bad guy is Chick Hicks (the green car with the moustache grill) and it would take place mainly in Radiator Springs. Sora would be a supped up JDM type car like a Supra, Skyline, or a RX-7, Goofy would be some type of truck, and Donald would be some type of joke car like a Fiat or a Smart car. McQueen and Mater would be the sidekick characters and help you fight Chick Hicks so McQueen could get back to his big race. Don’t think too hard about how combat would work, Square will figure that out. I’m telling y’all, it could work out and would probably be the best thing to happen to the series. Kachow, Ronn

I was recently browsing the Nintendo eshop and saw that Return to Monkey Island had just launched. Without thinking or checking reviews, I instantly went to buy it and download it to my Switch. My question for you is: what franchise constitutes an "instant buy" for you? Meaning, which one carries such nostalgia or sway over you that you'll buy it and experience it no matter what? Has this changed over time?

Allan

Ahoy MinnMateys, I can't think of a game I've had less interest in reading or hearing about than Return to Monkey Island. Wait, let me explain! I absolutely adore Monkey Island, and as a lifelong fan of the series the idea of the original creator Ron Gilbert coming back to make his own third game is something that was simply never, ever going to happen. He talked about wanting to make it maybe a decade ago, but said that it was pretty much impossible due to the rights being tied up with Disney. He also said his dream scenario for it was to just quietly launch it with no announcement or fanfare or anything, which I think sounds amazingly ideal. That last part didn't end up happening, but the game is here now. It actually exists and I'm playing it. Now there are plenty of games I know I'm going to play regardless of reviews, like Tears of the Kingdom. But with games like that I'll still be curious to know what other people think and get into discussions about it. Return to Monkey Island is on a completely different, more personal level for me to the point that I don't want anything outside of the game itself. No reviews, no discourse, no nothing for me but a weekend to lock myself away and just play it from start to finish. Has anyone else ever felt that way about a series or specific game? Or is there a hypothetical dream game that would make you feel that way?

Barry Logan Smith

I find myself running or sprinting 24/7 in any game that has the option. So my question: In what game have you spent the most time walking, by choice. So not including set areas/sections that require you to move at walk-speed

Nick from Atlanta

I had a small get together on Sunday night for my birthday (Monday), and with only 7 people there I think it was the perfect size. It's weird to think about times in my life where all I wanted was a big party. Has your ideal birthday celebration size gotten smaller over the years? Thanks, Nick from Atlanta

AnAttackCorgi

Hello hello! With lots of GTA 6 fans dragging Rockstar for an unfinished game looking…unfinished, what are some of the roughest pre-release builds you’ve seen throughout the years?

Luca Alberti

Hi MinnMax & Imran, really appreciate all of your work! I've recently met a fantastic group of friends who are very passionate about videogames and tabletop thanks to a meetup of a scientific divulgation channel. Have you ever had a moment in your life where you realized "there's dozens of us out there!"?

MickManga

Hope everyone is having a good day. I've got a simple question but it's one I can't stop thinking about. With Splatoon 3 massive first weeks sales. Do you think that it will the best selling game of 2022? And as a follow up do you think it will be the general most played game of the year?

Kyle Nazario

My partner is a veterinarian recommends adopting an older pet if you want a shorter commitment. They tend to be calmer, they’re already housebroken and they always need homes because they’re harder to adopt out.

John

Will modern games that are good now hold up better in the future than the good games of the past do now?

Joemomma

What is the most photographed thing on planet earth? Not generally, like there are more cat photos than dog photos, I mean actual thing.

Neill Smith

Missed joke opportunity (and it's not a pun!): When the question about Kojima's Podcast came in and ended with "Has there ever been a piece of content that made you question a creator?" anyone but Ben should have responded with "Yeah there was this one time a creator suggested we genetically engineer pets to die faster in what could only described as a super villain business proposal."

Fred Dinovo

How long do we think the GTA6 gamer rage will persist? Longer or shorter than the Spider-Man 2018 puddle reduction overreaction? Will it take until RockStar actually drops a trailer? Speculate wildly. Thanks

Adam Meran

Hey Horts! I’m a bit behind on podcasts but recently listened to the episode of Level with Emily Reese where she interviewed Ben and Kyle. It was really refreshing to catch you guys on the business end of an interview. Emily a good interviewer so I feel like I got to see a side of you both that just doesn’t come through on your own podcast because duh who wants to talk about themselves at length unprompted! Anyway glad you guys did that!

Sinclair Britton

Hey Ben and cohorts, if you had to pick a game that you believed was ‘perfect’ what would it be? By ‘perfect’ I mean a game that cannot be improved upon in any way. For example, to me Super Mario World is a ‘perfect’ game. There’s nothing I believe you could do to improve the music, visual design, gameplay, level design etc, and the game has no gameplay bugs or errors. It is the definition of a ‘perfect’ game. So what do you believe is a perfect game? A game with nothing that could be done to improve it…
