fighting games are kind of like the pickle of game genres. they are described by having fighting but then like 80% of all other games also have fighting in them as well... fist fights, gun fights, relationship fights... the pickle conversation shattered my reality, what is real but a mere misconception??

What time of the day do you consider morning and afternoon? I told someone I was free for a meeting in the “early afternoon” and they responded with an 11am invite saying that early afternoon worked for them as well. Isn’t it morning until 11:59am, then afternoon for anything after 12:00pm? Am I going crazy?

In an interview with IGN a while back, the BOTW director stated that the reason you couldn't pet the dog is because they did not have a gameplay mechanic for PETTING the dog, instead opting for being able to feed the dog as holding ingredients was already a mechanic. Is this type of design smart and cool or dumb and stupid?

SpiralInYourEyes

What’s the worst concert you’ve ever been to?

I was given a task, and now the time has come: "Please, somebody write in four months from now to the MinnMax show podcast over on Patreon and ask me 'Do I remember what SCHiM is.'" - Ben So, do you remember what the game SCHiM is? It was one of the many games that were shown at the wholesome direct, where that quote is from, but that is the only hint you get. Paint for me a picture of what SCHiM is, then see how close you got.

Hey Y'all! With all your time in the industry, you must have collected some sweet sweet merch or goodies from studios. What are some of the best free things you've received?

Funky Duck

Hey MinnMax, What is the most accessible hobby that you are interested in but probably won't ever start? Mine is crocheting -- it seems so relaxing but...too relaxing?

Garrett Hulfish

The biggest changes to controllers in the past 10 years include gyro controls, HD rumble, and adaptive triggers. What do you think the next advancent will be? It can be truly innovative, or a silly gimmick that never gets used again.

Justin Hughes

Hello ben. 4 months ago during the wholesome games showcase a game was shown named Schim. You made a comment asking someone in 4 months to ask if you remember it, mentioning that the name was poor and forgettable. So...do you remember it?

Phelix Diaz

Picture yourself in the year 3077. (Suspending disbelief of the human race making it that far). If you could develop a game with no technological limitations. Including graphics, interface, controller etc. What would it look like and how would it be played?

Hey folks, Recently, I found myself grimacing at a Fortnite ad. It was a weird thought about just how many teen/kid-focused characters are in there gunning eachother down. Is nothing sacred?! They can just have Goku shooting Spider-Gwen over there? I've played games all my life, and love me a fun shooter. But whenever I was playing Halo or Gears of War growing up, I at least felt like I was playing a game I wasn't supposed to. Here it doesn't feel as "adult-oriented". If the guns-in-games backlash was in full force right now, do you think Fortnite would be getting heat? Or is their stylized aesthetic the perfect blanket to soften the in-game world and avoid any controversy?

Do you close your eyes or keep them open at the dentist? Let me back up: my wife and I often share memes with each other at the end of the day, and she sent me this one last night: https://memescraps.com/2019/04/18/dentist-says-to-open-up/ While the original meme is, indeed, quite funny, I was more amused by the dude’s blank, soulless stare, mostly because I close my eyes at the dentist, and this just looks … wrong. After 12 years of marriage, I learned that she keeps her eyes open like a freak! What gives? Jimmy

Hey Ben and cohorts, if you had to pick a game that you believed was ‘perfect’ what would it be? By ‘perfect’ I mean a game that cannot be improved upon in any way. For example, to me Super Mario World is a ‘perfect’ game. There’s nothing I believe you could do to improve the music, visual design, gameplay, level design etc, and the game has no gameplay bugs or errors. It is the definition of a ‘perfect’ game. So what do you believe is a perfect game? A game with absolutely nothing, no matter how minor, that could be done to improve it…

Hey crew, Does it bother anyone else that there isn't a word in the English language to describe giving someone a drink? For example - you can feed a baby food but can't drink it water. You have to add extra context for drinking compared to feeding. Isn't that weird?

Howdy Ben and the Unnecessary Holidays, I looked on my calendar to plan out my week and saw a holiday I’ve never heard of. It said that October 15th is a Sweetest Day? I live in North Carolina and have never heard of this thing. Its something celebrated in the Midwest and is over 100 years old for some reason. Apparently it’s like a worse Valentines Day for freaks. Do you celebrate Sweetest day?

PhillyYeetSteak

Hello all! Over the weekend, I had my playthrough of The Dark Pictures: Little Hope completely halted by a game breaking bug in the final chapter. Between my personal experience and stories I am hearing about Overwatch, I'm wondering: Have you ever had to unwillingly walk away from a game you were wanting to finish?

Brian Riegel

As a Star Citizen backer, they celebrated their 10 year anniversary with a celebration called CitizenCon and I'm excited for what they have in store for the game these next several patches. So I was wondering why do gamers and games' media continue to harp on the game so much? Are they so cantankerous or cynical that they cannot accept the vision of the game; are they too seeped in the publisher model to see what SC/CIG is trying to accomplish? I get that the game has been known for 10 years and that it is still in alpha development with little to show for it (though that is getting less and less now-a-days) but with games like RDR2, GTAs and other games that take many years to develop, why do they get a pass but SC/CIG does not? I also know not everyone is fond of their their funding model and marketing but to make the game they want to make...it takes money and publishers are too risk adverse to invest in a project like Star Citizen. So how else is a game like SC supposed to gather the funding it needs to make the game it is striving to make? IDK, I feel like the game and its studio get a bad rap for trying to make a very unique game that blends many genres. BTW, all you need to "back" SC or Squadron 42 is to by a beginner's package either $45 for one or the other or $60 for both. Everything else is just extra if you want to give more money to the project. Also they have free fly events throughout the year so why not try to give the game a fair shake...

Forrest With Two Rs

What’s the best game of the year that you haven’t played?

Jake Z

How do you feel about the new trend of using "bombastic" to mean action-packed?

Rob Goddard

Hello Crew, I’ve been playing Disney Dreamlight Valley with my 6 and 4 year old daughters off and on since it released on GamePass and they love it. The highlight of the experience has been their reactions to new characters and story beats. I’ve been grinding away here and there after bedtime so when they play it next there isn’t much of a gate to their experience. One day I’ll make them do the work, but for now it’s just about the fun parts for them. Have any of you done anything similar for nieces, nephews, your own children and found pleasure in the slog to see the happy smiles when it was their turn to play? Thank you for all that you do!

Hey Gang, Do feel implied console exclusives are still a thing? I had never thought of this until a discussion you guys had back when the PS5/Xbox Series consoles were launching but I totally have implied exclusives. When thinking about picking up Gotham Knights I didn’t even hesitate in the thought that I would be picking that up for my Xbox because I played all the other Batman games on my Xbox. There is no reason I couldn’t get it for my PS5 but inevitably I won’t. Maybe you all are different because of the nature of being in games media but for me certain multi-platform games still are exclusives to one console.

Sam Kennedy

Hello, Many people seem to refer to Wild Hearts as a MH copy, but nobody seems to be angry about that statement either. It seems that MH fans are mostly just hungry for more, since that gameplay style is so unique to that game. What games do you wish had more copycats? Who would you want to develop one of these copycat games? PS - Batman is dead

Kolel Pryor

A ton of SF6 coverage is pointing to it being a very complete and compelling package, even for non-fighting game players! So let's get cynical... what will be the number one complaint from those who try it and bounce off shortly after launch?

henrik mortensen

Hallo! Do you think there will ever come a game in the The Legend of Zelda series that gets under 70 on metacritic? Hate your show.

Tokyo Game Life

Hi MinnMax, If every game you loved became its own genre, what would you call it? Hansoncore? Janetlike? Kylepunk?

Josh64

Hey all, don’t know if anyone already did this, but I wanted to submit Kendrick Lamar’s album “Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers” for the greatest work of art of all time! it’s a raw look at love, loss, grief, and overcoming generational trauma, coming from a great artist that’s at the top of his game right now. It came out in May and it’s been sticking with me all year long.

Jared Piers

Hey minnmaxsirs and madams, recently started playing tunic, partially because of Jill talking about how great it is from a few weeks back and I instantly loved it. Feels like a game that was made specifically to make me happy. You ever had this experience? Playing a game that feels like it was made for you and your interests? Thanks!

John

Hello, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it turns out the sun is getting brighter (which is bad for life), and the fate of our pale blue planet is placed in your hands. (Gamers are use to making world altering decisions on the spot right?) Your choices are the following: 1) Hurtle an asteroid dangerously close to the earth thousands of times to slowly shift the earths orbit to a place out towards mars. (Mars and the moon will be lost) 2) shoot lasers at the sun to make it emit extra solar wind in order to make the sun smaller (the consequence of this extra solar wind on earth is unknown) 3) Abandon earth. Also what is the decision in a video game that gave you the most pause?

Brandon Lovesee

Hey MinnMax crew. In Party Chat this week, Ben said that he was thankful for his Stream Deck because it helped him rediscover/find his love for handheld games. With Valve getting rid of the waitlist, I jumped in and bought one. My question is, what is it you love the most about the handheld experience? Is it the portability, the emulation, or something else entirely? Anyway, got any must get recommendations for the Deck?

Azza G

Hey MinnMax! Glad I can finally send a little support your way now that I'm actually working! After playing Immortality and loving it, but being very uncomfortable by much of the content, most of which you'd never really see in video games. I remember someone on the podcast describing it as one of the most mature games ever made. It got me thinking, what are the most mature games ever made? Sure plenty of games get mature ratings for blood and violence, but what other games have you played that truly feel like no one but an adult should play this due to its disturbing content. Hope you enjoy the lovely question :) PS I live in Australia where years ago games were allowed to be given an R18 rating as opposed to the max of MA15. Examples of R18 games are South Park: The Stick of Truth, Immortality, GTA5, We Happy Few, Fable Anniversary.

The Sleepy MailMan

Hey Ben & friends! Do endgame bosses excite you, or do you find them to be a chore? Are there any action packed games that don’t end in a boss that’ll test your skills? What about a nice cutscene that puts the story to bed instead?

TheLastArcher

Hey MinnMax!! Weird question: what’s your favorite eating sound from a video game? (Audio samples encouraged)

bianca ryckert

Hi MinnMax! What's your favorite joke from a video game? For me, I like how in Ooblets they call a Large Latte a "Lurge Latty." That's not really a joke but it made me laugh! Love you.

WeGoGiant

Hello MinnMax, What bat-gadget from the entire bat-canon would you want most in your daily life? Anything from a comic, movie, tv show, game, etc. but you can only choose one. What do you pick?

Bob Buel

Howdy Max-a millions, How come Street and Saint have the same abbreviation? Weird, right? Also, what are your favorite abbreviations and acronyms in gaming? Thanks

Christian Jimenez

Fello Hellow Gaming Cohorts, What do you prefer when reading updates on news articles. For the UPDATE part be at the beginning of the article or at the end? I'm still not sure what is best or common convention. Cheers.

Y’all hear about that or see that about Magnus Carlsen? Best chess player in the world, recently lost, and he accused the 19 year old Hans Niemann of cheating. Niemann has cheated, ONLINE, not at a live event. There was no way for Niemann to have cheated, the rooms have signal jammers, metal detectors, and metal detecting wanders, at a live event heavily proctored. Internet joked, as it does, that he had an apparatus shoved up his sphincter to cheat. BEST PART, even though this was a joke, there is no proof he cheated, and his accuser Carlsen had no specific details on how he thinks Neimann cheated, at the recent match, where a representative wanded people entering for metal, Niemann was the only one asked to turn around and they wanded his butt cheek area… AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA LOLOLOL!!!! Too far, or not far enough to stop cheating?… you tell me!

Thom Blackburn

Hey howdy horts! What's going on with the Playdate? How were the rest of the games that came out in season 1? Thanksgiving, Thom

Hey, you crazy MinnMax-otans: So, there was talk this week of maybe cutting the "Do you know how this whole thing operates?" from the soon-to-be-ad-free version of the podcast and some people are saying they actually enjoy this segment. But for me, this generally just stands out as the guaranteed weekly MISSED JOKE OPPORTUNITY. For example, last week Hanson asked: "Hey, Kyle, do you know how this whole thing operates?" and Kyle deflected with some thoughts on Splatoon 3, a bit of an evasive action. But then, a few minutes later, Hanson again asked: "Hey, Kyle, do you know how this whole thing operates?" and Kyle said, "No." That was it: "No." EVERY WEEK Hanson asks, "Do you know how this whole thing operates?" and the answers range from straightforward (e.g., "Patreon.com.") to downright lethargic (e.g, "I don't know."). What gives. Everyone knows this question is coming their way, sooner or later, and rarely does anyone have anything even remotely funny or clever prepared as a response. "Do you know how this whole thing operates?" How about: "Fueled by the tears of our enemies"? Or: "Duct tape and baling wire"? Or perhaps even a cheeky: "Viewers like YOU"? Those are just a couple of ideas. They aren't that great but at least they're SOMETHING. Love you guys!

Matthew Weatherley

What do you think the chances are that the Mario movie sound track will be 100% music composed by Nintendo. I just can't picture Mario being paired with a pop song. Also what's the bet that KK will hide his song somewhere in the movie.

Jason Wojnar

Imagine you are completely naked, it's not important why. Then, the phone rings (not a video call). Do you get dressed before answering the phone? With love from Kyiv, Jason Wojnar

WAZZUP! What is your favorite health indicator ? Is it older games of characters losing pieces of clothing or darkening screen and colors of health being anything from green to blue.

Rich McLaughlin

You’re a writer on the new Mel Brooks film based on Resident Evil. What gags are you pitching?

CrabPalace

Hey Ben Handstand and the Twirlers, I was just in the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona and it made me feel like I was about to fight a Dark Souls boss. Where have you been that felt remarkably similar to a video game?

MickManga

It's slime time. Slimes are among the most common enemies in games. So I wanted to ask what's your favorite slime, outside of the iconic Dragon Quest Blue Slime? For myself it has to be the Puni from the Atelier series. They're simplistic design allows for a lot of creativity while still being able to stand out from the sea of slimes.

Dan Villone

Hi Cohorts, Missed LAUGH opportunity: A few weeks ago, Janet was talking about Gunbrella, and how you can block bullets with the umbrella. Ben then immediately called it a "parry-sol", and no one laughed at all? For shame. This pun was so well-timed, it made me wonder whether Ben had that one in the chamber for a while. Anyway, here's a Halloween game: What video game-related costume should each of you wear for Halloween? Here's the catch, no one chooses their own costume. Instead, the 3 other cohorts must come to an agreement with what the fourth person will wear. Thanks all! Dan

Fred Dinovo

Howdy 'horts, As we are approaching Halloween, what have been your favorite costumes over the years? The one(s) you're most proud of for either their cleverness or design. One of my favorites was back in college my roommates and I all went as Green Army Men and walked around campus stopping to get into our assigned poses as people walked by.

Noah Allison

Have collectibles and checklists been plaguing more and more games lately, or am I just getting getting older and noticing these unfulfilling tasks more than I used to?
