G’day from Australia, MinnMates! I’ve discovered your podcast a couple months ago and and just recently became a Patreon subscriber (first patreon I’ve ever subbed to!). I primarily listen to the podcast audio while I’m on the go, and I’ve quickly devoured the most recent 20 episodes or so, and I’m itching for more. My question is, which old episodes of the pod would you consider your most timeless episodes that I can go back to and listen to and still enjoy the most? Often gaming podcasts are tied to the most recent gaming news and releases, so they don’t have a lot of reason to go back to old episodes down the line once the hype of those news stories or releases die down. Are there any episodes that are more self-contained discussions not related to current events of the time, any “greatest hits” episodes, or eras of the MinnMax podcast in your mind that I should go back and check out? Any episodes that may be “required listening” to understand the origin of any in-jokes within the MinnMax community, or just any content you’re particularly proud of that you’d recommend a new fan go back and listen to? Conversely, are there any “shameful” episodes or parts of the MinnMax timeline where you might be more reluctant to recommend someone go back and check out for whatever reason? Maybe a hot-take that you now disagree with, or a prediction or bet that went wrong or aged like milk? Thanks for the great content you guys put out and I’m happy to be a part of the MinnMax community! Cheers, J

Hey there MinnMax!! One of the fondest memories I have of Resident Evil 4 is Ramon Salazar. Call my crazy, but his lines are so memorable, and his line delivers by Rene Mujica just add to it. It can seem at times that his character is a bit too much and over the top, but I love just about every moment he's stealing the scene. What are some other notable "over the top but oh so memorable" characters you can recall from your gaming history?

What is the best Thanksgiving video game? Is it Madden NFL, turkey hunt the arcade game? What game really says, it’s thanksgiving?

TheUnchartedWolf

Hey Minnmax. From your viewpoint in the industry, who do you feel is the hardest game company to predict for(besides Nintendo because that's too easy). Do you notice that studios in certain regions are harder to predict for than others, if so, why do you think that's the case.

Mike Lynch

When taking about their parents in a positive light, some people call them Mom or Dad. However, other people believe Father and Mother are warmer ways to describe their parents. Which terms do you believe are the more positive?

Eric Dowdy

At what age did your friends asking you to play go from meaning having outdoor imaginative adventures with them to playing video games together? I guess what I’m asking is, when was the demise of your inner child to have the nerd in you reborn from the ashes?

Victor Pham

Is Resident Evil 4 still the greatest game ever made?

TheLastArcher

Hey MinnMax! My wife and I play games together a lot and a couple years ago her headset snapped in half at the top of the headband. I was able to cannibalize an old 360 era turtle beach headset and with some duct tape magic I was able to fix it enough to function until we could afford to buy her a new one. The sense of accomplishment and feeling of resourcefulness was something I’ll always remember. Sure it wasn’t a difficult fix but it worked and we could continue to play games and talk with our friends. Ever have to jury rig or pull an emergency diy on your gaming equipment? (Also is it jury rig or jerry rig?)

Hello! Apparently egg nog is divisive. What are your thoughts on the fall beverage? Do you prefer a specific brand or recipe? I like Wawa’s egg nog as is. Thanks, Vince

Hey MinnMax, Short version: Are we living in the golden age of Gaming? Long version: The last few years have seen wonderful storytelling, amazing hardware, incredible graphics, novel uses of new tech, massive experiences and small moments. ( Thinking of examples like God of War, Red Dead Redemption, Immortality, PS5, RTX4090, Halflife Alyx, Before Your Eyes, Elden Ring, Florence) All of this has happened while the market for games keeps expanding, and developers ranging from 1 person studios, to behemoths are able to find a place to flourish. (I've played more Stardew Valley on Steam than I have Call of Duty any version). But at the same time we're are seeing troubling signs like the increasing "games as service" subscription model, remasters of reboots, lack of ownership of physical games, consolidation of developers, attempts to shutter marketplaces, and use of new gaming tech for mundane office meetings (metaverse). And it looks like these trends are only increasing. So, will this last generation, say 2005-2025, be remembered as the Golden Age of Video Games? Or are you hopeful that we've still got decades of games, friends, and getting better, in front of us? Regardless, it's been fun to be on the adventure with you these last few years.

Hello MinnMax with 1 X! Im excited for Sonic frontiers but it is getting put on the backburner until after Ragnörok but even though it seems like it's getting 7s, from everything I've seen it could easily be a 9 or 10 to me. So my question is what is a game for you that is a 6 out of 10 that is a 10 out of 10 to you? Thanks!

Luca Alberti

Hey MinnMax, The recent Indie World has me dreaming about my most anticipated Indie titles (Sports Story where are thou?). I think we all agree that 2023 has the most stacked lineup since at least 2017, so I can't help but think "oh no, this or that indie game will be overshadowed if it comes out next year!". There is one exception to this claim but I still think 2023 will be a challenging release window for indie devs, what do you think?

James Ford

Hey Benson and Co. I think that with the high install base of the Switch and how at home indies feel on it, indie developers will continue to release their game on the Switch long after Nintendo has move onto the next thing. How long after Nintendo's next console do you see the community continuing to keep the Switch going?

If y'all are interested: Last Friday Overwatch fans were treated to a great Grand Finals between the Dallas Fuel and the San Francisco Shock. A best of 7 that went the distance with neither team ever being up by more than 1 map in the series. As a Dallas Fuel fan it was a roller coaster of emotions for me that had me jumping and fist pumping after they won. There were even a number of good storylines that were culminating in the finals. San Francisco was looking for their third championship title, their dps player Proper won the rookie of the year and mvp awards so a grand finals win would've completed that trifecta. And with Dallas Fuel's win their tank player Fearless has gone from being on the 0-40 Shanghai Dragons in 2018 to Grand Finals mvp.

Would you rather eat a bowl of molten hot thumbtacks or play God of War Ragnarok on a launch PS4?

Wes Bates

Hey MinnMax Crew What's your least favorite part of your favorite game? How would you fix it (other than just removing it)? Cheers! ~ Wes

Nick from Atlanta

Hello Panel! I recently became an American citizen, and this is the first election I've ever been able to vote. It felt like an accomplishment for sure, but it was also a little bit of a let down. I'm not sure if it's because I voted with an absentee ballot so I wasn't waiting in line, or I didn't get an "I voted" sticker. Have there been any significant firsts you've experienced that were like this? Thanks, Nick from Atlanta

Did anyone get a chance to try the Hitman 3 Freelancer Mode during the technical test last weekend and have any thoughts on it? I tried it out for a few levels and there's couple of spots that seem a bit rough, like the supply crates, but overall it feels really really good. I love that you have to meet with contacts to buy equipment for example.

I was always curious how everybody at Minnmax met. I understand most met at Game Informer, including the wonderful guest Elise Favis, but when and how did Sarah and Ana join Minnmax? Did everybody instantly click?

Jared Piers

Hey MinnMax The recent polls you guys sent out about how people found Minnmax got me thinking about my first Minnmax experience. First two things I saw were the exit interviews you did with Dan Ryckert and Mike Mahardy. I think in both of them, Ben told stories about having trouble in the bathroom. At the time, I thought 'this guy seems to be a pretty good interviewer but boy does he talk a lot about diarrhea'. Dont think I've heard you say anything like that since. Anyone have any similar things happen to them where you get a kind of weird first impression that ends up being completely wrong?

Bobby Corwen

Hi MinnMax gang Do you like to speed through or power through your game?

The Sleepy MailMan

Sonic just celebrated his 35th anniversary, which got me thinking about what he’ll be like as a senior citizen. Why don’t we have more games about the elderly? Do you think there’s potential there?

Ian Switaj

Hello MinnMax! If you enter "[YOUR NAME] the hedgehog" in a Google image search what is the first image that appears?

Jeorin

Hi MinnMaxx crew and friend Elise! Does the success of Sonic Frontiers signal that Michael Jackson's curse has finally lifted from the franchise?

Phelix Diaz

Should Mario do a No-No-Shave November? What would he look like shaved?

Greetings Minnmax! When charting out what games you're going to play, do you try to pick out games that offer substantially different experiences from each other? For example, if you are just finishing up a story-driven single player fantasy game like Witcher 3, would you gravitate toward a multiplayer FPS? I thought about this when I heard Ben mention on this week's Party Chat that his plan is to return to Elden Ring once he finishes God of War, which I found surprising since these both kind of scratch the same itch. Is there something to a 'balanced video game diet' or am I nuts??

ProcyonNumber6

Hey Benn and Friennds, Everyone knows free food tastes better. What’s the best meal you didn’t have to pay for?

Nate Miller

What Up Maximum Minimums! (That sounds insulting somehow) I'm new to the Patreon I just wanted to say that Kelsey Lewan is a Treasure first of all, and secondly: What's a mini game you've played in a game that had absolutely no connection game play or theme wise to the game?

ChazCheeto

Hey there Max Minners! A pretty straightforward question for this week: looking past God of War, are there any games slated to release this year that you think stand a shot at being your personal Game of the Year? What about a Game of the Year favorite for MinnMax or other podcasts and websites?

Hunter Blessing

Hi MinnMax! I haven't started Resident evil 4 yet, but I picked up both the steam and VR versions during sales. Should I start with the normal version, VR version, or wait for the remaster?

Ronn

Hello! Florida is getting a rare November hurricane with the last one being in 1981. If Ian taught me anything it's that I need DVDs in case I lose internet connection. What is your Mount Rushmore movie or TV DVDs? Ronn

Lewis K

I’m replaying Persona 5 Royal on Game Pass and between the SMT games and this, what gives!? Why can’t I fight Jesus Christ in a video game? Every other religions holy figures seem to be fair game but once you get to Christianity we only get some higher level angels. Pfft. Give me the big cheese!!

James Gameboy

Here's a BetterQuest goal: this month I'm taking part in a "Finish Your Game" jam with my local game dev organization. I started this game 9 months ago and haven't touched it in awhile, and now I've gotta get it done by November 28th! It's a little Playdate game so I'm optimistic about my odds, but I will also accept any available good vibes. Thanks CLCs and Elise who is also rad!

RickyWinterborn

why is searching for and buying new games more fun than playing what you already have?

Duderado

Howdy MinnMax, When is the last time you made friends with a completely random stranger in an online game?

headclub

What role, if any, do you think AI could have on MinnMax? Could you ever see using an AI to generate a thumbnail or background music or ideas for new show plus? And not as a gimmick one time, but as part of your go-to process.

Bryce Blackmore

If you were sonic, what would be your equivalent of rings that you collect and what would that mean when you get injured? Do they come out of your skin? Would you poop it out? Vomit? I need answers!

Patrick Hughes

Cheers and good tidings MinnMax! I'd like to give some thanks to the useless mechanics found in games that don't necessarily serve any purpose, but make the experience all the better for them. I'm talking the likes of a button press whose sole purpose is timidly calling out Mario's name in the Luigi's Mansion series. Or taunting your opponents to "Show me yo moves" in Super Smash Bros. Or perhaps doing a silly little dance as a bard in Wandersong. What are some of your favorite thankless, but beloved mechanics found in games?

Malcolm Holliday

Hey Minnmax, what's the most badass/hardcore thing you've seen a video game character do recently? (LIGHT SPOILERS)For Me it's when Bayonetta rips out her own heart while chanting in an ancient language to summon a super powered version her kaiju.

irrational_kind

Hey Minnmax, Is it just me or it feels western rpg genre is dying? It feels just like what happened to stealth genre. Many AAA action adventure games started incorporating stealth lite which eventually killed that genre. Now same seems happening with Horizon, New AC having RPG lite elements. (Especially with Bioware, Bethesda, CDPR dropping the ball with their last game. Cyberpunk is also pivoted to action adventure than RPG)

Joe Dean

The other day I watched Sarah stream Sonic and the Black Knight, and as the stream went on, Sarah, the stream, and myself became increasingly unhinged. What is a game that has made you become unhinged? -Joe Dean

Hey everybody, Question for everyone except Ben - Do you think Ben is the type of person to say, "Wow, this Ragnarocks!" As he plays through the new God of War? I personally think he is. I think he'd also give himself a high-five right after. Thanks, Dan

McCracKenway

Hey guys, what’s the most underrated game you need to do a deepest dive on, and why is it A Plague Tale: Innocence?

Brett N

G'day Ben and co. Really been enjoying collectors corner, so may cool and I interesting things to see. The latest episode got me thinking about the game books I have read over the years both good and well maybe not so good. Do may of you read books based on or about games? What are the best or "best" (as in I can't belive this is a thing best.) For me it's was the books based on Doom and Doom II released in 95/96 about the adventures of Flynn Taggart (aka Doom Guy) as he battles his way through the Union Aerospace Corporation facility on Phobos to save his friend and make it back to earth. I fondly remember getting the first two while on a holiday and seems like there was another 2 in the series. I'm sure they are not a great read now but 12 year old me loved them.

Tonytheswordsman

Wazzup! In RPGs what’s the best non weapon, weapon? Thinking back on some recent RPGs I’ve played I remember characters fighting using everything from a Volley Ball, a Puppet and even yo-yos. So I ask you all what’s is the best ? What is the dumbest or even what is the worst? Thank you

Jeremy McPhail

Hey Ben and the Maxxers - Just had a conversation with a young gamer at school and they said they only play Madden, nothing else. Which genre, studio, style, or game do you think is the most played where the player exclusively plays just the one?

Michael Federico

Hey Benny H and the CLCs, Sarah always has such good posture. What're you doing over there, Sarah?

Hihi! First time writing in. :) I am in the Supergiant discord and for kicks and giggles I went through their old AMA in it. Greg Kasavin replied to a comment that I'd like to ask you all about. The question was regarding the tone of Hades being lighter, more humorous, and kinder in tone than their previous games. Greg: "Each of our games has sought to assert its own identity. I don't think Transistor is without kindness though for sure it is our most somber world. With Pyre, we aimed to create a more uplifting story (though I know you may not have experienced it that way). With Hades, we did set out to create a more lighthearted world, partly to violate expectations about how such a setting has to be. We want each of our world to have a certain warmth to them but with this one we've tried to push that farther. I am personally tired of media that believes making people sad is the Height of Emotion. It does nothing for me. Making people sad is super easy. I think what's difficult is to make audiences feel fulfilled." Do you agree that making audiences feel sad is easier/less rewarding than making them feel fulfilled? What games (or other piece of media) have made you guys feel emotionally fulfilled?

Devin Cheek

Hey friends! Caveat, I’m a fan of Sony and all the games I’m about to mention BUT are The Last of Us, Uncharted and God of War all the same game now?
