Hey all, Our modern name for the days of the week is a messy story through celestial bodies, mythology, and cultural translation. So here's a fun challenge, can y'all name what our weekdays are named after? Bonus if we do both English and Spanish as there are some fun pairs. English Hint: Most are Norse gods! 1) Sunday - Sun Day 2) Monday - Moon Day 3) Tuesday - Tiu/Tyr's Day 4) Wednesday - Odin's Day 5) Thursday - Thor's Day 6) Friday - Frigga/Freya's Day 7) Saturday - Saturn's Day Spanish Hint: Most are Roman gods! 1) Domingo - Lord's Day 2) Lunes - Moon (Lunar) 3) Martes - Mars 4) Miercoles - Mercury 5) Jueves - Jupiter 6) Viernes - Venus 7) Sabado - Sabbath

Hey, Ben and crew! I've really enjoyed watching Sarah and Leo play Spore together. What do you think are the essential ingredients for an entertaining stream? Do you prefer being on the sticks or commentating?

SuperMediocreMan

Hey, I’m sick, which gives me an excuse to watch the Extra Life archive. What do you do when you are sick?

RickyWinterborn

Can you describe some other gaming outlets by what vibe they would've been in high school? For example MinnMax would be the kids who setup melee at the lunch table. NoClip would be the kids modding half life in the computer lab etc.

Hey Ben & co, I got bored during a lunch break and decided to see what percentage of Question of the Week winners from the past year were about gaming. Not hating on anything y’all do, I really enjoy the non-gaming questions like “what’s up with the word for the food pickles?” just as much as your conversations about whether you’d rather have video games or space”. You can find a link to the data here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17GX9TEBO2wYh2TVgd1YpGwiHLSlFt_IsdY48hn8ioVc/edit?usp=sharing. I made graphs for all the QotW winning subjects from the past year as well as the past 6 months. I found it interesting that in the past 6 months there’s been over twice as many questions that have won that were non-gaming related than gaming-related. But for the full year it’s exactly 50/50. Note that some of the questions didn’t really have a subject so I put those in Miscellaneous. Anyway enjoy! P.S. also thank you so much for putting timestamps!!

Hey Ben, this isn't so much a question as it is validation, but a few shows ago you'd mentioned seeing Allison Kraus and the Union Station live and Allison making a joke that the other singer in her band was going to be George Clooney's voice in brother where art thou. I too remember this joke and I'm guessing it was around 1998, but I saw it in Salt Lake City. As for a question, I also remember her making a joke that a drunk lady liked their bassist but she kept yelling CELLO!! CELLOOOOOOOO!! And they figured out later she meant "bass". My question is do you or any of the other members of the podcast remember that joke and also can Leo rate Allison Kraus's joke? Thank you, you all are awesome. Take care, Rich

Isn’t it a bit odd how Game Freak hasn’t said anything about the issues with Scarlet/Violet? I was hoping for at least a CD Projekt Red style comment that says they are going to fix the game. I do believe there is a great game buried under the performance problems, and I’m unsure if I should wait for a patch or just request a refund?

Gabriel Cleveland

Gobble, gobble, Ben 'n Crew! It's Thanksgiving, but due to unforeseen circumstances, that Aunt and Uncle that always like to start fights at the dinner table (you know the ones) and their three weird kids can't make it. Oh, "darn!" The real problem is we're going to have so much extra food! Which five video game characters are you calling up to fill their seats, and why?

Tyler Kasishke

In a previous episode the question was asked: what do you call a group of gamers? A LAN.

Duderado

Dear MinnMax, I have a crime to report. Sonic Frontiers has incredible music in each of its Cyberspace stages, but boosting to go faster muffles the song! Yet again it seems like going fast in a Sonic game is a punishment because the soundtrack is full of bangers and should be heard in full. Is the sound muffling effect to give a sense of speed really worth it?

AMJ22

Given the massive, global prominence of Pokémon, why do the games still look like the hidden pictures on the back of a cereal box? BotW is what, 5 years old? We can't get a gazillion dollar cultural phenomenon of a brand to match Zelda, who in comparison, has a much smaller footprint on society? I get it that actual ownership and development of the brand is spilt up, but come on. On top of that, it doesn't even run well. Yet here we all are, buying it like good little consumers. Is it going to take a large scale upheaval to change this? Are we all supposed to get tired enough NOT to buy the next game? Are they just complacent since it always sells? Are we at a breaking point as consumers? In summary: Will this be the point we all say enough is enough? Are "we" about to say "thanks but no thanks" to the next entry? The collective reviews are good, but they all cite the crappy graphics/performance. I am a lifelong fan, and while I hate that we got a seemingly half baked game, it is still Pokémon, and it is still fun.

What is something you are looking forward to?

Hey Ben and the 'Horts, here's a food question: is a perfectly prepared sandwich the best possible lunch? Heck, is it the best meal period?

Hello MinnMaxers! Looking back over my own gaming history, I recall that I've played through Final Fantasy Tactics at least 5 times and have also committed several additional hours to lore/explanation deep-dives (podcasts, YouTube videos, FAQs, etc). I have put a fair amount of time into Final Fantasy Tactics. However, I haven't put a single hour into a single Tactics Ogre game. I feel the happenstance of the Ogre games is they're in the same vein as FFTactics, from the gameplay to the writing (the later of which is a CORE reason I love FFTactics so much!). Have any of you played both FFTactics and a Tactics Ogre game? If so, can you compare/contrast? If not - have any of you played a tactics Ogre game and would care to share your thoughts/opinions on it? Thanks for all the constantly, consistently great content!!

Hey I really want the Mega Man X cart, so here is the best question you all have ever had! Here it goes? What was the best item you purchased this year? How has it made your life better?

Tanner Hoisington

Is there a prettier AAA game than Ghost of Tsushima on PS5? That game is stunning.

Frankie Roughknight

Hello! It’s coming up on my first appointment to start my video game sleeve tattoo early in December. I’m getting some nods to Sonic, Mega Man, Parasite Eve, Silent Hill, & so on. I know tattoos aren’t for everyone, but gun to your head, what video game character or reference would you get tattooed on you & where?

Jeorin

Hi MinnMax crew! There was a fun discussion in the Discord about people's different Thanksgiving traditions, so I would like to ask: What are your go to Thanksgiving dishes? Happy Holidays!

Patrick Hughes

Cheers and good tidings MinnMax family! The holidays have many a folk gather together, so what are some of your favorite co-op / multiplayer games to play together (or tear one another apart haha)? One shoutout I'll give to a recent co-op game I discovered is Part Time UFO from HAL Laboratory, a delightful physics-based puzzle game where the antics of playing with a second player are half the hilarious fun to be enjoyed. Hope you all have a safe and warm holiday!

Virgil B

How long is a secret good for? Nothing major but say someone told you they have a crush on someone else or someone did something mildly embarrassing, how long before that secret is fair game to discuss with all parties involved? Do promises to keep a secret have an expiration date?

Vilis

I have to say, about Midnight Sun's, I hadn't realized how cool it would be until the interview Ben did 3 weeks ago with Jake Solomon. It was very much a "You had my Interest, now you have my Attention!" situation. Just the level of depth they seem to be going into with Marvel lore and they're shifting up the XCOM formula all sounds really fresh and interesting.

Tonytheswordsman

Yo! Did anyone actually write in the notes section in game Manuals?

Avo_Cadeo

Hey Ben and Frens! When Breath of the Wild came out in 2017, it completely revolutionised Open-World games for me. I was excited, because it was SO GOOD, surely this focus on exploration and discovery would supplant the tired "Ubisoft-tower" design that basically every other open-world game used, right? Since then, Elden Ring is the only open-world game I've played that even came close. Meanwhile, the "vomit of icons on a map" style of game remains too common in my eyes. Why do you think this is? Is it simply too hard, or is there a defined way to "design" these games that the average AAA studio doesn't want to mess with? Sorry for the long one, hope your Thanksgiving is nice!

Kyle Osborne

Hey Ben and crew if we were in fighting game what would your signature move be ?

Michael Berry

When I was a little kid, I would get really scared at the intro sequence to the Nickelodeon show, "You Can't Do That on Television". It showed kids being assembled together in a sausage factory and it was just really weird. I still think it is creepy but I no longer run out of the room if I see it. Now, it is quite amusing. Do you have anything in your life like that? Something that was really scary but now is entertaining.

Jason Wojnar

I absolutely love Ukrainian movies from the 60s and 70s but it's hard to get my American friends to watch them. What is something you like that no one else around you enjoys or will even give a chance.

YARF

What do y’all do after Thanksgiving dinner? Relax, get ready for a long drive back home, get ready for Black Friday or any other tradition? Love going to the mall not even to buy anything but just to soak up that energy and chaos, feel the vibes, all the positivity with a chaotic, desperate, twist. And sometimes see a cool deal.

TheUnchartedWolf

STOP THE PRESSES! The God Of War Ragnarok director has stated he would love to make a new Castlevania game if Konami would let him. I know I'm excited but what about the panel. What would you want from a Castlevania game made by Sony Santa Monica. I have many ideas but Ben would be reading for hours

MickManga

Heya MinnMax, Pokemon Scarlet is rapidly climbing my game of the year charts. I won't spoil anything. I just wanted to say it's billboards in game are amazing. So my question is, are there games where you love the signs/billboards in the game? Also I have my first better quest goal. Jurassic Park is my second favorite movie. (My number 1 is Nausicaa Valley Of The Wind.) However I have never read the original Jurassic Park novel. So my goal is to actually sit down and read it in a months time. I've heard it is pretty different so I am looking forward to broadening my appreciation for Jurassic Park.

Phil DeGrave

Do any of you like heavy metal? I am talking about thrash metal like Overkill, Kreator, Exodus, Municipal Waste, or Midnight, or black metal (Emperor, Cradle of Filth, 1349, Watain), death metal (Cannibal Corpse, Abysmal Dawn, Dawn of Disease), traditional metal like Iron Maiden? Venom? Mercyful Fate? Amon Amarth? I have heard Ben talk about AFI (my wife’s favorite band), but I don’t think I have ever heard anyone on a gaming podcast that likes heavy metal. Surely (don’t call me Shirley), there has to be someone? Anyone? Hello?

Chris McMullen

Hey Minnmax Manniacs, Are there any IP where you engage with everything but the primary thing? I haven’t played League of Legends in years but I love their card game Legends of Runterra, I watch all of their videos on YouTube, and Arcane is one of my top shows of the last 10 years. I have no interest in going back to League but I’m always interested in whatever new projects they announce in that universe.

CrabPalace

I am starting to become very depressed by every creative industry. I have Disney+ and every show is a marvel, pixar or star wars spin off. Almost every popular netflix show is either terrible, or a 1 hour documentary stretched out to a 6 part series... or really good and cancelled. The most buzzed about indie bands are all working day jobs to make ends meet. I'm thankful that we're living in the sweet spot where indie games can go up against triple A's. How do you see the industry in 5 years? 1st party games are taking longer and longer to make, which leaves space for indie games to take center stage, but even those are increasing in budget. Are we OK or are things going to get seriously bad?

Andrew

I was looking at Gen 1 Pokemon and just had the realization that Mew comes after Mewtwo and it's really messed me up. Why would they do this?

Christian Jimenez

Hi, Twins v Doppelgangers! Why is it that twins like having someone that looks like them (usually) but if you run into someone that looks like you it feels weird and strange? And is it me or does Jacob look like Yannis Philippakis from Foals (Spanish Sahara music video) Thanks.

Ian Switaj

Hey MinnMax. Simple question: Fire, Water, or Grass?

DubZe27

Leo is really funny. Do you agree?

Colin Burch

There has to be a switch pro coming right?

betoq92 .

Hello Ben Jacob Leo and Sarah. Whats the most embarrassed you’ve ever been? And how often do you think about it? Have a great day!

John

Alright, the Egyptian god Thoth has granted your single wish. You may tweak one single number associated with any video game. What will you change? Will you increase the stats of a weapon you love but isn’t practical? Will you decrease the hit points of that one boss you are banging your head against? Do you change the number of eyes on a game you want the world to know about? Can you save any one game with this wish? Change the outcome of the game awards? Get creative, defy the masses. This is your gift.

Wolf-Headed Conjurer

Do big budget AAA games really benefit from making a big marketing push on Twitch? Overwatch 2 has been doing frequent Twitch promotions (free skins, weapon charms, etc.). Is the benefit from this stuff statistically significant? They claim they have 35 million players, but Twitch viewership doesn't even hit 100k. Is this money well spent? I understand smaller games benefit from going viral and word of mouth, but do AAA games have anything to gain on Twitch?

Mason Cowell

Hey minnmaxers, I'm a little confused by the pokemon discourse. Gamefreak finally made the open world game we've been asking for for years. Here's a quick pro/ con list. Pros: Near fully open world Fun traversal mechanics 100 new pokemon GOOD WRITING AND ENGAGING STORY Cool new mechanics and unique lore for the region Cons: Performance is iffy, very rarely broken or game breaking It seems like people are waaay more negative than they have any right to be with how good this game is outside of performance issues. What are your thoughts? Taking this game on its own merits, is it receiving more hate than it deserves?

Joe Dean

Janet beat the Outer Wilds DLC over the weekend, and it reminded me how much I love that game. Then I remembered it was ported to current gen consoles this year, so can Outer Wilds be on the two tens this year?

P4R4D15E 1NC.

On the second deepest dive Hanson was very mean to himself, he was calling himself, dumb, stupid, deaf. Etc. stop that! You’re a brilliant man. 😇

Josh LaBaw

What's your best preorder story? I got lucky & was able to reserve a PS2 about a year in advance, get my first job & pay it off before launch day. My mom rewarded my efforts by getting me out of school to pick it up on day one.

BearCommando

Hey crew, Xbox just put their Series S (a next gen console) on sale for $250 for Black Friday. Now we all know the rumors for a “Switch 2” say it’ll bring graphical fidelity up to the level of roughly a PS4… a full gen behind a now $250 series S. What do you think Nintendo can get away with charging for this next console, considering the current Switch is still $300? Has the novelty of portability worn off a little bit? I never see people with a Switch out in public since Covid hit and people stopped going out as much.

Cyrus

After we've got a Digimon, Mario and a Marvel Strategy RPG game this year: What other franchises would you love to get the X-Com treatment as well? Spongebob? Sonic? Dora the Explorer?

Ryan M

What's your retro videogame store strategy? When you go into one, what do you beeline to first? Do you go into browse or do you only go into one when you have something in mind?

Luca Alberti

Hey MinnMax, today I'm searching an answer for the question that keeps us all awake at night:why don't we have a Splatoon story-driven spin-off yet? And why would it be an RPG?

Coty Davis

Take your favorite indie game and blow it up to a $500 million dollar AAA holiday release, then take your favorite AAA blockbuster hit and boil it down to an indie darling made by a small team with a small budget. What does the game gain from the change, and what does it lose? After all of the bells and whistles are stripped away, does the AAA game leave anything left? Are the most important core concepts of the indie game drowned out by the addition of ubsoft towers, celebrity likenesses, and an engrossing narrative told at a fixed walking speed down a corridor?
