What does Final Fantasy mean to you personally?

AlexTheSnood

Hi Minnmax. With the Pokémon anime retiring not only Ash as its protagonist, but his specific Pikachu as well, it seems that one aspect of the long-running franchise is getting an opportunity for revitalization. Are there any other video game franchises that you think could benefit from a similar change? If so, what aspect of the brand would you change, and as a bonus question, how do you think the internet would react? Thanks for being MinnMax!!!

Hey Benn and Friennds, Everyone knows free food tastes better. What's the best meal you've had that didn't cost you a dime?

Dylan Kelly

Dear Ben and Co., Do you think humans will achieve Faster Than Light travel during your lifetime? (p.s. the FTL soundtrack is such a banger)

For Kyle, I have a question that I believe you are uniquely qualified to answer: Which drum stool do you recommend I buy to meet both my VR and drumming needs? We bought an electronic drum set for our 9 year-old recently and need something for her [and me] to sit on. Also, do you have any recommendations for resources or methods for learning how to play? I've looked into the Drumeo Kids app/subscription, but I'm not sure if that will be a good fit. I also know there is active development on an open source clone of Rock Band called "Clone Hero" which supports MIDI connections, but I've yet to get it set up. You might say I'm waiting for somewhere to sit. Thanks, Kyle

If you could never consume a certain type of media ever again which would it be?

Dan Villone

Am I CRAZY? My lovely wife bought me a PSVR 2 as an early birthday present, and I had never played a VR game until now. Thanks to Kyle's Pistol Whip recommendation from 2019, this was the first game I played. How is it possible that I have gone years and years without understanding how amazing VR is? I feel like I've missed so much in my life now. Have any of you ever felt this way? It can be about anything, doesn't have to be VR related. Dan

Hello Ben, has anyone ever told you that you look like the whiz from Seinfeld? Nobody beats the whiz.

Ian Savino

Combo gaming & better quest question! Is there a game that you feel has truly helped you in “getting better”?

Neill Smith

When Janet Garcia appeared on the 99 Questios podcasts we learned that 'shovel foods' are the most comforting foods. What's your favorite shovel food?

David Dubs

Hey Folks! With the release of Pokemon Sleep coming later this year, it got me thinking - what other aspects of our everyday life can be improved with gamifying it with Pokemon? Pokemon Dieting Pokemon Do Your Taxes Pokemon Go To Work Pokemon Dating What other places in your life could we stuff Pokemon In?

Cath

Hey all! I was wondering what is the minn (least favorite thing ) and the max (favorite thing) of these games - Horizon Zero Dawn - Animal Crossing New Horizon - Pokémon Yellow - Final Fantasy X - Until Dawn Looking forward to hear your take !

Hey, Gamers. What's your favorite game that you never want to play again?

Phelix Diaz

I've been playing Subnautica for the past month and the game has enraptured me in such a way, that I have develop some moderate thalassophobia (fear of vast bodies of water). Have you ever developed specific fears due to a game? Phelix from Puerto Rico.

Brandon Lovesee

Hey friends, With the tease of Elden Ring DLC this week and Horizon Burning Shores about a month away, how often does DLC bring you back to a game? What does it need to do to suck you in? Do you feel the need to replay the base game before starting the new content? Thanks

mag

Hi crew! The UI of a old computer game I recently played is the unsightiest shade of dirty purple and I decided I didn't want to look at it any longer so I uninstalled the game. What's the pettiest reason you decided to not play a game or stop playing it?

Garrett Wainstock

If you could ride one amusement/theme park ride right now, what would you pick? Everyone on today's podcast will be transported to the beginning of the queue with a 5 minute wait. You'll transport back once you leave the gift shop (or ride exit if there's no gift shop). If a ride offers photos, you'll always have an opportunity to purchase them before transporting back (just in case you'd have to pick them up elsewhere). Something new? Tried and true? For the crew, or just for you??

I've started eating a sweet potato and asparagus every day. This in general has prompted me to eat healthier and consider my nutritional intake in addition to calories. However, this is also causing me to refuse food when I am a guest and when my mother offers me some, which in some cultures can be considered quite rude. Do you often refuse food for a particular reason and does it ever get weird?

Troy Ellison

Hey Ben and Cohorts, on the latest episode of the Fire Escape cast, Dan Ryckert arrogantly proclaimed that the only person he could take in a fight is Ben Hanson (with some hyping up by one Mike Mahardy). I was wondering how you all would respond to this outrageous slander.

Christian Jimenez

Howdy, In honor of PsychOdyssey celebration week, here's one thing I noticed in those episodes. Tim Schaffer plays and has lots of rubik's cubes around. Do you think he's actively solving them when they show up in a scene or just playing with them? Do they represent him solving the writing he needs to do? Have you all ever solved one? Thanks!

Hey gang! How bout' a game? I searched a bunch of different game franchises in Google Trends and have put the links to them below. Hanson will describe the graph (or show it if you want) and the team has to try and guess what game franchise the graph is for. Note that Google Trends apparently only goes back to January 2004. I recently watched Ben and Sarah's video about FF14 songs in the new Theatrhythm, and I was so happy to hear Ben gaining an appreciation for the music of FF14. The sheer variety of musical styles and consistency of music quality in that game is astounding. My current favorite example of this is the song "Dedicated to Moonlight" from the most recent 24-person raid; it has such a lively and playful sound and has been stuck in my head for about two months. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yl8b9Q7JKGM (Skip to 1:15 in the video for the chorus, and then hold onto your headphones, 'cause you're about to enter the bump zone!)

The new Destiny expansion adds a grappling hook. Objectively, all games would be better with a grappling hook. What game do you most want to add a grappling hook into?

Patrick Hughes

Salutations MinnMax and crew! Playing Metroid Prime Remastered, I'm reminded how amazing the pointer controls are for FPS games. While I know many are likely enjoying the twin stick controls as is the new default modern option for this game, I highly encourage everyone to at least give the pointer controls a try if playing in docked mode. What are some of your favorite control schemes found in games that you wish would find its way more into the larger gaming medium?

Zatch Moore

Hello Hanson and Minnmax crew! New patron here, and am so happy to be able to have these deepest dives in podcast form to get through overnight shifts. After finishing the FF7 Deepest dive, i was reminded how I first played the game. I was intrigued after hearing the internet legend of the FF7 house. In short, a crazed fan of the series convinced a group of impressionable fans that they were all soul bonded to characters from the game, and used this to abuse, manipulate, and extort them in a cult like housing situation. It is one of the most disturbing and fascinating stories I've ever heard. What is the strangest reason you have delved into a game or series? https://youtu.be/vHReSTzYQME - short video on the topic, worth a watch for ff7 fans Hanson!

Phil DeGrave

Hey all! A few episodes back, you (Ben) mentioned that you’d thrown all your Nintendo Labo stuff in the trash. I was surprised to hear this—not because Labo isn’t trash (it is)—but because of the job you have. I figured Hansen (maybe more than the rest of the crew) would keep items like Labo around because of the potential for content, Extra Life etc. Seems like you are always having to dig up older games for content. Do you think about this when deciding to part ways with older systems, peripherals, even games?

Thom Blackburn

What could the strategy be for putting horizon forbidden west on the Premium tier of playstation+++? The game is basically a year old now, has gone on sale for $30USD and could disappear from the roster at any time. What is the point of doing this when they know they'll be compared to Gamepass? Devalue the IP to showcase it when there aren't any other sont first party games near release? Please make it make sense, Thanks, Thom Blackburn

The Sleepy MailMan

Hey, MinnMax! In honor of the recent Pokemon Presents, are animatronics cool or creepy?

Xavier Perez

Hey all, I recently finished A Space for the Unbound (shout out to Jill Grodt for the awesome recommendation) and switched to Atomic Heart on GamePass and the dichotomy of going from one to the other has been jarring. What is the strangest pair of games you have played back to back?

MrButtons

Which is the more fun experience: completing a big, colorful puzzle or completing a large, complex Lego set? Do you frame your puzzles or display your Lego sets, or do you just destroy them immediately after like a maniac?

Stark

Even if it is unlikely to happen, what upcoming games would you most like to see get the “psychOdyssey” treatment?

RickyWinterborn

In the Psych Odyssey round table, a key takeaway seemed to be that they tried to make too big of a game, and schrier noted that a lot games get trapped in 5-6 year dev cycles now. i feel like for years now gamers have felt overwhelmed by games having too much content and they only play a fraction of it, so why are devs seemingly not reading the room on this?

Eric Newman

Does the crew have a preference on achievements vs trophies? Would it kill Nintendo to make their own version?

Cade Mead

How much do you try to make your room or house tie together? I like walls to be certain colors, but can't be bothered to care about curtains.

Graham Jones

Hey minnmax, With the poor graphical quality of the most recent Pokemon games and the development of games like Temtem, DokeV and Palworld, it's got me thinking... what do you think it would take for fans to move away from the Pokemon franchise? Are there any specific mechanics or quality of life improvements you think would make people move onto different IPs? Thanks for all the great content you release!

Duderado

What's a sequel to a game you loved that for some reason or another you just haven't played yet? For me it's Ori: Will of the Wisps. I adored the first game to the point of nearly shedding tears, but the sequel never pops into my mind when I want a game to play.

Joe Dean

What's better: Zelda's item get jingle or Final Fantasy's battle victory jingle?

Sebastian Apolinario

Respec or No Respec in games? I enjoy the tension of committing to a long-term decision, makes it more personal and impactful. At the same my Divinity 2 playthrough could've been a torture without respec.

PhillyYeetSteak

Hey crew! Is there a game that all your friends have moved on from but you keep going back to? I keep dipping back into GTA online every few months, but my friends deleted it over a year ago.

Tokyo Game Life

Hi MinnMax, Recently I’ve been playing Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe and I am blown away by how good the Kirby model looks and animates. Since Kirby’s model is so simple visually, is there a possibility where it becomes impossible to iterate and improve upon Kirby’s design or visual detail?

Echo

Hey MinnMax Crew, what are some of the best video game themed pet names you've ever heard? Recently I got a good laugh out of Albert Whisker for a cat.

Trapezoid

Back when Star Fox 64 came out, I got it home, started playing, and promptly beat the game in about 25 minutes or so. I was shocked and annoyed that this big game that I was super excited about was over and done with that quickly and I didn’t play it again for a long while. When I went back, I was shocked to learn that I had only beaten one of multiple difficulties and only seen about 1/3 of the levels (I know the map was there guys, I was an idiot!). Suddenly it had new life and I went on to play it relentlessly til I had medaled all the stages and done basically everything there was to do. Can you think of a time where you initially thought a game was shallow and lacking but ended up being much deeper than you realized at first glance?

Vilis

I came onto a stream for the last 2 hours or so of Space for the Unbound and was blown away. Is it worth playing through if I know how it ends though? Is the whole game fun or am I playing it to reach the super intense/beautiful ending?

Matthew Goss

Hi MinnMax crew, in Skill-Up’s FF16 preview video they mentioned how Yoshi-P finds the term “JRPG” derogatory in reference to their games. This is due to the connotation the phrase has with anime tropes and the overall “unserious” tone consumers would approach games labeled “JRPGs” as opposed to standard RPGs. I don’t really have a question about this but would love to hear your thoughts on this topic as I found it quite interesting. Thanks!

Ian

Hey crew, how do you maintain faith in democracy when Pajama Sam: No Need To Hide When It's Dark Outside comes third in the game championship Twitter poll? Justice for Pajama Sam!

James Ford

Hello Cohorts! How would you market VR Games? As a non VR gamer myself it seems like the limitation of all games being inherentely in first person makes it hard to pull content for a trailer. All gameplay is first person and there are minimal cutscenes to draw from. When in a showcase with 5 back to back they just seem to bleed together a little bit. How would you improve this?

MickManga

Hello popcorn loving cohorts. With the Super Mario movie rapidly approaching. I thought I would do some research and look up the highest grossing video game movies. Here are the top 10. Can the crew guess them all? Also can we predict if the Mario movie will take number 1 spot and what it's box office total will be? 1. Warcraft. 439 million total 2. Dectective Pikachu 433 million 3. Rampage 428 million 4. Sonic The Hedgehog 2. 404 million 5. Uncharted. 401 million 6. Angry Birds. 352 million 7. Prince Of Persia 336 million 8. Sonic The Hedgehog 320 million 9. Resident Evil The final chapter 312 million 10. Resident Evil Afterlife. 300 million Bonus point if anyone has seen all 10 movies. I personally have only seen half of them.

thejjuan1

Hello minnmax crew. So I just finished The Blessing Show, on the topic of black hair in video games. Very good vid. But goes to the topic of any other character customization options you wish games can do better at? For me I wish height options were better in other games. Shoutout to ff14 you can be a lalafell ( the race smaller than your knees). They are short but you as the warrior of light, NPC must look down on you when in cutscenes and see what a badass you are.

Ryan M

Hi Ben, You've mentioned using the Steam Deck on your exercise bike. My question is: do you lift, bro? Because that's a hefty system and my hands get tired holding it while just sitting on the couch.
