What do you think the Switch 2 (of that is the name they choose) will be like? Do you think they stick with the same idea of portable and docked options? Do you think it'll be backwards compatible with the Switch? For me, I think in order for it to be super successful, it needs to be able to play Switch cartridges. Curious to see what y'all think.

Hey MinnMax, You know The Most Interesting Man In The World ™ from the Dos Equis commercials? Who is games media's Most Interesting Man In The World ™? Maybe it's a dev with a million stories, maybe it's a journalist whose seen everything, maybe it's some other content creator who makes you wonder "how the hell did they pull this off?" Also in this case "Man" is merely part of the title, I think a person of any gender could be The Most Interesting Man In The World ™. My first thought, Tim Rogers of Action Button

What is Nintendo’s deal? Truly. Why won’t their first party games come down in price? Why do they hold back their catalogue? They have such a dedicated fan base but they don’t seem to respect them very much.

Matthew Byerwalter

Is there any common words or phrases that are irreparably tied to a certain usage? For example, there's a call and response minigame in Rhythm Heaven on DS where when a popstar ends a line in "I suppose" then the monkeys in the audience clap along and say "I suppose, hey!" and I can never not think of that whenever someone says "I suppose" in normal conversation.

Thom Blackburn

What is the current best platform to play indies on? Thanks, Thom Blackburn

Pelicanman

Regarding the conversation around The Last of Us, it strikes me that no one ever says things about books or plays, for instance, being adapted into movies or TV with minimal changes. Why do you think this discourse is bubbling up when it doesn’t for other media source material? If anything, adaptation of games seems more vital, because of the barriers to entry inherent to video games.

Styster

What conventions have you enjoyed the most over your careers? Are there any you weren't as much of a fan of?

Daniel

PET QUESTION ALERT: Given the goal to make that MinnMax pet documentary it seems apt to ask about the MinnMax pets. I like to leave the MinnMax show on for my dog when I leave her at home and she seems to enjoy the sooth dulcet tones of you corhorts. She also keeps me company playing games on the couch. How do any of your pets that you have now or before integrate with your gaming lifestyle? Do they have a certain fondness for certain games like pokemon or get freaked out by spooky ones like Dino Crisis?

Kraven Morcome

Hey MinnMax, After enjoying the HBO show my wife has decided to play the last of us part 1 as her first video game and then eventually the last of us part 2. With the help of some accessibility options she is doing great and is about half way through the game, but I find it interesting the knowledge I take for granted after a lifetime of playing games. For example, she has issues navigating the environment and telling what can or can't be climbed. When she asks how I know, I can't really determine an answer other than "I can just tell by looking at it." What are some gamer senses you've developed from playing so many games?

Jordan Brown

Hey MinnMax, So, I hate to be a downer but I am really not excited for Tears of the Kingdom. I played and loved Breath of the Wild my first playthrough when it came out, but I found every playthrough afterwards to be worse and worse as the seams in the game design started to come apart for me. I just didn't enjoy the sandbox component combined with the complete lack of accomplishment I felt after completing my 50th shrine or finding my 200th Korok seed. I just didn't feel rewarded for exploring the world. Now it seems like they are doubling down on the sandbox nature of Breath of the Wild and it's left me feeling deflated and not interested. Am I crazy for feeling this way? Thanks, Jordan Brown

RabidLime

horts and co., button? butt'n? or buh-in? catching up on eps and heard Janet pronounce it "mouh-in" whereas i say "mount'n" and some stuck-up poindexter out there probably says "mountain" like a stuck-up jerk. language, huh? love, RabidLime

Hey folks, Hope you all are doing well! A few months ago, I finally got the job of my dreams - its been my 5 year plan forever and super exciting to actually get the position! Now that I have it though, I've really been struggling with imposter syndrome - like somehow I dont deserve it/belong despite wanting it so bad for so long. Dont get me wrong, I love the job but just cant shake that feeling. Have you ever had professional imposter syndrome and if so, how did you overcome it? Sending all the love from Canada!

Phelix Diaz

I recently played Brothers: A Tale of 2 Sons. I'll keep away from spoilers but I'll broadly mention the latter parts of the game. I was so impressed how the emotional scenes towards the end are so amplified by the use of the controller and making those scenes actual gameplay. Nowadays I feel most emotional moments in games happen in cutscenes. Do you feel more emotionally connected when things like this happen in gameplay?

Tom Rickard

Hey folks! I recently preordered Dredge based on the podcast from last week about it with Jill and it got me thinking. What do you think your first indie game you ever played was and do you think it changed how you view video games? I used to strictly play AAA games but when Stardew Valley first came out, I gave it a shot and now its one of my favorite games of all time. It really opened my eyes to branch out and not be afraid to try something a little more unique. Keep up the great work and I hope Jill will be back in later episodes!

Tokyo Game Life

Hi MinnMax, The new mechanics shown off in the Tears of the Kingdom video were recall, fuse, ultrahand, and ascend. Which of these powers would you want in real life?

Ian Switaj

Hey MinnMax crew. I am beyond hyped to play Final Fantasy XVI when it comes out this June. I have played every non-MMO mainline entry in the franchise and several spin-offs like Theatrythm Final Bar Line. My brother, on the otherhand, has only played Mystic Quest. Have you ever only played the "bastard child" of a popular series and if so what was it?

Stevelution

Hey MinnMax, You can only eat one fast food for the rest of your life. I’m not talking brand, I’m talking type. What are you going for? Gotta be pizza for me.

001 Radio Gamescast

Hiya folks! I recently played through Resident Evil 2 Remake after bouncing off of it multiple times. I finally forced myself to sit down and play through a few hours of it in one sitting, something clicked, and now I can't get enough of survival / action horror games after thinking that I disliked them for years. Has any game ever changed your opinion on a genre that you thought wasn't for you?

Patrick G

Hey all, Watching PsychOdyssey got me to finish Psychonauts 1, buy and finish Psychonauts 2, and craving more content I started the double fine adventure and bought Broken Age. I've always knew about double fine but now I'm exploring more of their catalogue. Have you ever went down a developer rabbit hole and played only their games for awhile?

Will Paris

What’s up Ben, Kyle, Janet and JeffM! Long time fan & Patreon supporter, First time question writer! With RE4:R being so well received do you think it is inevitable that we will get an RE 5 remake in the future. That game had mixed reviews (although I had a ton of fun with its goofyness. Chris punching that boulder is top tier goofy video game nonsense)so maybe a current Gen remake would spin the narrative. Also what franchise do you think will be next to hop on the remake train? Could you see any Xbox franchises getting a from the ground up remake in the future? Gears of War maybe? Might make sense with the movie coming out. Thank you all so much I love all of your content. I’ve been a fan since the GI days. So happy to support my favorite video game media community!!

Ben Shively

I recently finished my “Top 50 Favorite Games of All Time” list and I had some very hard decisions along the way. These are some of the harder placements I had to make, I’m curious what choices you would make. Halo 3 vs Metroid Dread Mass Effect 3 vs Half Life 2 Elden Ring vs The Last of Us Part II Dead Space 2 vs Left 4 Dead Halo Combat Evolved vs Shadow of the Colossus

Michael Lane

Apologies if this has been asked before, but this is something I've been thinking about with the release of Resident Evil 4 Remake. What gaming franchise is most important to you and why? Of course, mine would be Resident Evil. It's a series that I grew up with, with some of my earliest and most important gaming memories being spent alongside my older brother and cousins, as we stayed up late into the night playing the original PlayStation trilogy or even the GameCube REmake -- all of which scarred me as a 7-year-old. Resident Evil certainly made an impact on me as a kid, led me to love the horror genre, and even more than 25 years later is seeing the release of new entries that are as good as the classics I grew up with.

Mike Lynch

Would you rather have the bank account of the richest person in America, or the accumulated amount of every lost penny? (In the garbage, side of the road, in the couch, etc.)

Muffyn Crumbs

Hey crew! Ben, on your interview with with Tim Schafer you said you couldn't see how any documentary in the future could ever be as transparent/honest as the Psych Odyssey one. Why do you think this? I understand that it's a big cost to hire a full time documentary crew to film all the time in the studio, but I feel like we're bound to get more studios who are inspired by Double Fine and go for the same kinda thing. It reminds me of everyone in 2020 saying movie theaters are dead and that we'll never get another Blockbuster movie in the theaters, and then boom, Top Gun Maverick. And then people said that'd be the last big Blockbuster, and then boom, Avatar: The Way of Water. I know it's not an exact comparison but I just always find it silly when someone says there's no way something will ever happen again or a record will ever be broken.

Andy Dwyer

With FF16 and Tears of the Kingdom both being from series that have innovated a lot over the years I’m curious which game series do you think innovate the most? Are there any series where you feel the games have nothing in common except the name on the box?

Rich Lynch

Howdy all! The prospect of E3 making a proper return is seeming less likely with everyday. If things continue how they have been there’s a good chance that Space Jam: A New Legacy will be the last public mention of the show outside of a press release. Summer Games Fest has done an ok job of becoming the new gaming hype machine but still hasn’t quite reached the heights of the E3s of old. With so many companies announcing things whenever they feel like it and making direct style presentations year-round, do y’all see Keighley’s show ever properly replacing E3 or is the era of Summer gaming announcements coming to an end

Zach Killian

Hello Minnmax, Since it’s the 10 year anniversary of Bioshock Infinite, what did you think of the game when it came out and what do you think of it now? Do you think it still holds up? Keep up the great work!

Keegan Mobley

Hey MM! Love all the recent content. Thank you so much for your work! You should be proud of it! That being said....what videogame character would make the best sack race partner?

Caleb Ward

Hi friends, If you were tasked with teaching a class on game studies, which game would be a non-negotiable for you to cover in that class? What game would you use to show the current state of the industry?

Victor Pham

Do games take too long to make now? What can be done to scale back development time?

Jared Piers

Hey minnmax! If you could have a death animation, what would you want it to be?

claudio

Pick a gaming superpower 1) Every time you play a multiplayer / co op game you can magically add any of your friends who are always available to play for as long as you would like. These are magic representations so your friends will not remember the gaming sesh IRL 2) Time stops for 30 minutes a day when you are playing a single player game. More time to play games! 3) For the rest of your life you will never have tech issues when playing games (crashing, corrupt save, audio/visual bugs)

Lenya Tissot

Hey peeps, do you have any advice for people who try to get into Shadow of the Colossus, but bounced off it because of the nasty controls? (I'm talking about the remake here) Or is Shadow of the Colossus one of the games locked behind nostalgia goggles meaning if you haven't played them at the time, chances are you will not get it?

Sam Kennedy

What are some things we should have words for that we don’t already Like, for example, really bad dreams are called nightmares but we don’t have a word for really good dreams.

Devin B

Hey there! From now on, you can only vacation at either the mountains or the beach, you must choose one. Which do you go with and why?

RickyWinterborn

what if a clothing store did a collab with fortnite or apex and when you completed tiers of a battle pass they sent you actual outfits to wear, real life SKINS. would you grind for a pair of exotic sweatpants?

Jonathan Fenn

Hey minnmax, I recently finished Eastward and it struck me near the end that the game has strong 'Iconoclasts' vibes. Has Kyle checked this one out at all? Other than having waaay too much dialogue, the game is pretty great!

Ronmar the Only

Hello everyone! Initial pledger with first time question: With E3 falling apart before our eyes (not for the first time), will there be changes to the Trek to LA itinerary?

Tyler Kasishke

With RE4 Remake getting lots of buzz, a friend of mine asked where they should start if they wanted to start playing the RE games. What do you think? RE4 remake? RE2 remake? 7?

Brian Ventura

Hi Minnmax I've been catching up on minnmax content, so this may be a late reaction, but recently Jacob and/or Leo called the conclusion to HBOs the last of us "truly cowardly". I might disagree, but I found their criticism highly thought provoking, especially regarding "cowardly" as a criticism. The word coward strikes me as perfectly biting yet light-hearted and funny. How seriously should anyone take being called a coward?

Duderado

Hey MinnMax! What's a revelation you had while replaying an old favorite game? I recently finished GoldenEye 007 on Nintendo Switch Online for the first time since the 90's and had a revelation that there are multiple objectives to complete in each level. As a kid I only played the campaign after my brother had beaten every level on every difficulty so the objectives didn't matter as long as I reached the end cutscene. Replaying it had me spending nearly 10 minutes on some levels searching for a specific thing to blow up or scan. It was a quite different experience compared to when I would "speedrun" levels as a child.

SlyCut

Hello all, Missed joke opportunity; a couple of weeks ago, when Jacob said to use your cat as a pretend gun to shoot your partner for a guaranteed laugh, and Leo said, "Very satisfying gunplay." Someone should have added, "It's probably the best first-purrrrson shooter."

Stark

I was looking at a list of the best selling Switch games, and an entry in the Momotaro Dentetsu series was near the top of all 3rd party sellers. I have never heard of this franchise. Can anyone on the panel shed light on this series?

Adrian Creates

Hey all, here is a random nugget I came across last week in the form of a 1-question pop-quiz… *No cheating* Think of ALL Star Wars games on Steam… What do you think is the number 1 Star Wars game, based on user reviews, coming in at an Overwhelmingly Positive score with 26k all time reviews at 97%!?!? Hints… - Developer: Petroglyph - Release date: 2006 Answer… !starwarsempireatwar! Is this mind-blowing to anyone else? Is it time for a new one??

Caleb Giovannelli

Hey MinnMax! First time Patreon supporter here. As a bit of a fitness fanatic, I find myself going to the gym twice a day, every day. Due to this, my BetterQuest goal is to go to the gym LESS, while finding more time to rest. Have you ever had a life goal that seemed almost counterintuitive with regards to what you're trying to achieve overall? Thanks for all the content!

BearCommando

Hey all, Are we all just gonna ignore the fact that we just defeated Ganon and his minions in Botw, and now they’re all back like “JK no big deal”. We haven’t even finished sweeping up the purple goop out of all the stables yet. Zelda only had time for 1 spa day to get her hair cut before Ol’ Malice Alice is like “time to rehydrate boys!” Makes the first game’s ending seem kinda empty

Vincent L.

Hello! I was at PAX and it was a good time, but the experience led me to wonder if major players in the games industry have become too shy about proudly owning their products. Nintendo had two massive booths and a has bunch of games in the pipeline, but they demoed Yoshi’s Crafted world instead of Zelda or Advance Wars. Square Enix was advertising Final Fantasy on the free lanyards and had a huge panel on FFXVI but didn’t even have a space in the expo hall. Sony, Microsoft, Epic, EA or Ubisoft all had an opportunity to plug their Q2/Q3 release as the big game at PAX but just… didn’t. It seems like a missed marketing opportunity. Has the switch to digital events, or Company Directs, gone too far? Is EA afraid of a streamer calling Jedi Survivor “cringe”? Am I just overreacting?

Tonytheswordsman

What was your dumbest thing you did as a young gamer ? Personally I think playing RPGs as a kid and just not paying attention much so I’d sell off important items or just get stuck and replay the whole thing because I just didn’t even read the text boxes.

Michael Berry

So, completely out of left field, a new Toxic Crusaders beat-em up game was announced. What a bizarre, deep cut IP to revisit in 2023? Which obscure IP would you enjoy seeing reemerge out of the ashes? Personally, I loved the Incredible Crash Test Dummies as a kid and would welcome their return with open arms.

Michael Leri

Hello MinnMax, What kind of accent is the merchant in the original Resident Evil 4 supposed to have? I never really thought about it until I was playing through the remake and heard the new actor's slightly less nebulous accent (which appears to be South African or Australian). And now that I have thought about it, I still can't quite place it. Thanks for reading and take care!

thejjuan1

Hello minnmax. I've been watching many videos on YouTube about the Wii U and 3Ds recently. With the eshops closing this week. I think it’s the reason I've been seeing more love for this era of Nintendo and those systems. Many comments talking about the switch don’t have the “charm” that the 3Ds and Wii U had. By seeing these videos I think they are onto something. Those systems had something that made it a nintendo system. Street pass, miiverse, and the year of Luigi. While some of these fans are saying Wii U is better then the switch are out of fucking mind. I do see what some of fans are talking about. What does the crew think? Does the switch have the “charm”of Nintendo as a system outside the games.

Cameron Everett

After Tuesday's Tears of the Kingdom gameplay showcase, I'm excited about all the gameplay possibilities that Link's new abilities will enable. However, due to this expanded freedom, I'm finding it harder to believe that traditional dungeons will make their way into the game. What are your thoughts about another dungeon-less Zelda game after decades of dungeons being a staple of the franchise's identity? ...and do y'all have any favorite dungeons from the series?

Bill Jones

Howdy Ben, my question for the panel is, what would their ideal panel be for a games media equivalent GDC conference? How Jason Schreier networks to cultivate sources? How Matt Miller structures a game preview? How Daemon Hatfield has decided to evolve Game Scoop over the years? How Kat Bailey balances IGN and Axe of The Blood God?

Adam Cohen

Hey MinnMax crew, Do you ever think about how connected we all really are? Several years ago someone at Valve had the idea to make the Steam Deck and as a result I went to go see comedian Nate Bargatze perform live this past weekend (he was hilarious). Allow me to elaborate: 1. Someone at a Valve decides to make the Steam Deck 2. Someone at Valve decides to make a Portal themed tech demo for it. 3. Comedian Nate Bargatze is hired to perform in the Portal Tech Demo 4. I play Aperture Desk Job despite not yet having a Steam Deck because I love Portal and I really enjoy it. 5. The MinnMax podcast discusses new release of Aperture Desk Job where Kyle Hilliard discusses how one of his favorite comedians, Nate Bargatze, plays the lead role 6. Hearing this, I watch several Nate Bargatze Netflix specials and become a fan. 7. Nate Bargatze includes my hometown on his tour date and social media algorithms determine to sure me ads for it, leading me to buy tickets. I just think it's really cool that so many things out of my control can have a direct impact on my life life this. Do you have any stories of how your life was impacted by factors way outside of your reach?

Vilis

Hello MinnMax, or in Roman Numerals, 1001 nn 1000 a 10. Final Fantasy XVI had a very impressive showing in which they addressed a lot of community questions. Tears of the Kingdom also had an incredible demonstration that answered a lot of questions and presented many opportunities. HOWEVER, Breath of the Wild has shown us that being a generation defining game doesn't necessarily mean everyone will finish such an amazing game, and I will admit I spent dozens of hours in BotW but didn't even fight a boss! Whereas I completed the entire story of FFXV and did some side content and cooked many recipes, but I would say it's not as impressive a game as BotW ultimately. MyQUESTION is do y'all think Final Fantasy XVI will surpass XV? will it score higher than Tears of the Kingdom? And if you think XVI WON'T score higher than Tears of the Kingdom do you think, regardless of the previous answer, that more people who start FF16 will finish it compared to percentage of people who start Tears of the Kingdom finishing it? It's classic Zelda vs Final Fantasy, Hanson! Master Sword vs Buster Sword! Pick a side!

Bob Buel

Howdy gang, First off, I attended PAX East for the first time this year and absolutely loved it. Shout outs to Janet for that hilarious Tinder with video game characters panel. Also, super looking forward to Wargroove 2 and 30XX after playing the demos. But I have a quick game for y'all! I'm going to give you a list of highly acclaimed videogame titles. Imagine that these games were actually horrible - just comically bad videogames. For each of these titles, your task is to come up with the snarky "making fun of it" headline that would be attached to their bad reviews. Ready? Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Red Dead Redemption Perfect Dark Metroid Prime Resident Evil 4 Elden Ring Devil May Cry Hades Limbo

Aaron Hurd

I was just at a networking event for work, and I was placed in the nightmarish situation of having to come up with a fun fact about myself as an ice breaker. Do you have a go-to answer for this situation? I feel like I really need a go-to fun fact after years of scrambling last minute whenever faced with this daunting question

Bezlo

Howdy Maxxers snack crackers! With the closure of the Wii U/3DS eshops, and all of the games that were digital-only titles, I was thinking about games that are no longer playable. Games that curious customers can no longer buy and play legally. I.E. Star Wars Galaxies, the P.T. demo, Super Mario Bros 35. What games did you miss out on that you can't get your hands on anymore? What games do you have that no one can easily buy and play? Is there a game you would like to be brought back so that others can finally play the hidden masterpieces of your collection? Let us know!

Patrick Hughes

Ahoy good folks of MinnMax. With essentially every respective developer pulling out of E3, it seems like this year's E3 is all but dead yet again. We all have many fond memories of this once historic event from the epic master swords appearing on stage to the awkward Wii Music concert demonstrations. My question - What would you do if you were the ESA to reanimate E3? What has caused its demise where other gaming events have managed to still thrive?

Colton Westbrooks

Hello MinnMax! What is your best gaming memory involving cheat codes or a GameShark?

Joe Dean

Hey if you could fuse or ultrahand things, like Link can in ToTK, what stupid thing would you just have to make?

irrational_kind

Hello Minnmax, I have been living in US for last 5 years but because of some sad turn of events I have to leave the US permanently in next month so. For practical reasons, I need to leave behind most things except what I can carry in the plane. Thing that particularly hurt me most are my PS5, gaming PC, Oculus, Books. I know these material things are replaceable but I am devastated. Is it normal to get attached to these things? How best to deal with this?

Leo’s Immersion

Hey MinnMaxers! When you finish a piece of media like a game, show or movie, do you let the credits roll? Out of respect for the medium and developers I always let the credits roll once I’ve finished a game, but I’ve noticed I don’t do this for movies or television. I know I should, but I just don’t feel compelled to in the same way. How do y’all handle credits of the various mediums you enjoy?

MickManga

Hope everyone is doing well. With the closure of the eshop, one of the last purchases I made was Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers Of Sky. It's my first time I've played it and the pixel art is beautiful. Do think we will ever see another true pixel art Pokemon or major Nintendo release?

Ollie Clay

Hey gang, I've been messing around with all the Nintendo Switch Online systems to try and build up my gaming historical knowledge. I'm going to be bold and say most GBA/Gamecube onward games hold up pretty well, whereas in the generations previous there are just a few diamonds in the rough. Do you think that this shows that in the past 20 years innovation has been lacking compared to the previous 20, as many early 2000s games still align with 2023 sensibilities?

Beau Bakken

Hello tasty M&Ms, A couple weeks ago on the Game Informer Show Kyle and Marcus were discussing Metroidvanias and what would be a better name for the genre. I don't have a good name suggestion other than the "Ooohhh, I need to get back to that!" genre. What I want to ask instead is what do you think is going on in our brains when we love seeing locked doors or treasure chests that we can't reach yet. It seems like a nice cheap way for a developer to add depth to a game by making us backtrack through levels, but I still love it just the same. I'm playing through Chained Echos right now and it's shoving stuff in front of my face constantly I can't access yet and It's great. Is there something deep about the human condition going on?

Robert Gruener

I recently visited the Zenkoji Buddhist temple in Japan. Here one can walk along a nearly pitch black corridor in order to stimulate reflection and find enlightenment. In this dark and spiritual place, a thought came to me, “When your lost in the darkness, look for the light….” :| To the crew, has your video-game-infected brain ever made a video game reference at an interesting or perhaps inappropriate time?

Dustin L

Ahoy! I want to known one thing - when you hear the word "cutscene", what's the first thing that pops in your mind? For me, it's absolutely the ballroom scene from Final Fantasy VIII

Wes Bates

Greetings MinnMax Crew, Do you have any pet peeves regarding any small sayings, quips or topics of discussion that drive you up the wall whenever you hear somebody mention them? What adages drive you nuts? Please discuss! Cheers and all the best, ~ Wes

Tony

don't let Nintendo get away with not talking about the eshop closure! got any favorites / fond memories of 3ds/wiiu games that haven't been ported forward (in addition to A Link Between Worlds and the Zelda HD remakes)
