What's been your most memorable or favorite interaction with a celebrity?

Cameron Hall

Hey Minnmax and cohorts! There’s been a faux pas in video games for awhile that shooting games can cause violence. While until now that’s been ridiculous in my opinion, there’s a new game trailer for a indie game called UnRecord that blew my mind at its realism. The game takes place from a police body cam perspective and seems truly life like, almost disturbingly so. Are we finally reaching a line where people should intervene? I can’t quite decide myself, and I’d love to know your thoughts.

Kraven Morcome

Hey MinnMax, When you guys go to the dentist for a cleaning are your eyes open, closed, or a mix of the two?

Palo

Is Mario 'cool'?

Ray Sweat

Okay, dumb question here, but which video game console had the best boxes for their games? It's gotta be the clamshell boxes for the Genesis, right?

Ben Shively

How are you guys feeling with open world fatigue? In 2010, a game being open world was a selling point, where now I’m almost turned off by the idea. Jacob Gellar’s remark that Dead Island 2 is much more linear than the first few games is what made me buy the game. I would love linear versions of games like Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3. While I would love to play though those games, I know I’ll never have the motivation to go through those open worlds with the free time that I can allot to them.

Shakenbake67

Hey Minnmaxers, I have something that’s been nagging me for awhile. With the news a couple weeks ago that redfall will only play at 30fps at launch. There was a huge outcry and people saying the game should be delayed. My question to you, to the average gamer, do you think they even care about frames per second. I’ve been a huge gamer my whole life and I can barely tell the difference between 30 and 60fps, I know there’s a difference but I wouldn’t say it’s game breaking for me whatsoever. To be honest I pick quality/cinematic mode(less than 60fps but the best graphics) 100% of the time if given the option. Am I crazy or people on gaming podcasts just blowing the FPS debate out of proportion? I feel like no one will care about about redfalls FPS at launch and instead will focus on the game itself

Cath

One character you would like to cosplay but you do t have the body/skin color for? For example I’d love to cosplay Shuri from black panther but it’s so not ok to do as a white woman ahahha

Chandler

How important is dismemberment to a star wars game? If you slash someone with a lightsaber and they don't get cut in half do you notice?

Andy Dwyer

With good games seemingly coming out constantly do you ever struggle to enjoy the game you’re currently playing because of wanting or needing to get to the next game? Are there any games you really wish you could find time to go back to?

Sam Worms

Hello Ben and the MinnMaxers! I'm thinking about getting a VR headset but I'm overwhelmed with options. What would you recommend for someone who is looking to become a casual VR enthusiast? Thanks!

Dustin Davis

Any idea for a MinnMax mascot? Maybe something to print out ala Blank Check's Flat Stanley? (Not a mascot but the idea of taking photos in various places would be funny)

Richard Herron

If you were to develop a game with your all time favorite protagonist, your least favorite antagonist, and the plot of the most recent game you’ve completed… what would that ‘back of the box’ quote be?

Thom Blackburn

Hi minnmax, You all mostly work from home for the podcast, right? That being said, why are most games press still living in San Francisco when it costs a zillion dollars to live there? Thanks, Thom Blackburn

Aaron Hurd

Be honest: if given the chance, would you "downsize" as shown in the 2017 movie starring Matt Damon?

ChrisKRool

Hey crew, hope y’all are having an excellent day. A few weeks ago Kyle mentioned he had a platformer itch and was wondering if he tried Pizza Tower yet. It’s rapidly become one of my all time favorites in the genre - features outstanding level design, a banger soundtrack, and a 90’s Nickelodeon aesthetic. Don’t sleep on one of 2023’s best!!!

SlyCut

Hello all, What is the biggest home improvement project you have done yourself? Where do you draw the line at having to hire someone? Could you replace your washer and dryer? a toilet? a door? flooring? or are you so not-handy that you need to call someone to hang a picture for you?

Matthew Byerwalter

Hi MinnMax. How do you feel knowing we may never get a truly handheld gaming experience again? By that I mean a handheld title that has to work within the confines of underpowered hardware (GBA, DS, PSP, etc). Sure things like the Playdate can help fill the void, but considering the baseline power of a handheld is currently the Switch or Steam Deck, titles will always have a certain level of graphical fidelity to work with so that they don't need to scale anything back too much. Not to mention anything on either of those consoles would be considered a "console" game.

ProcyonNumber6

Hey Benn and Friennds, Do you pronounce this number "1-5-0-0" as fifteen hundred or one-thousand five hundred?

Jason Wojnar

Do you shush people in a theater or tell them to stop using their phone? To make a long story short, I told someone to put their phone away while watching John Wick 4 and they immediately started cursing me out. On my way to telling the employees at the theater someone else (perhaps a boyfriend or a relative) walks out of a different theater and threatens to beat me up in "let's take it outside" kind of way. I basically ignore them both this whole time while they are screaming expletives at me. I walk back to my seat and they are still screaming at me and I assume the two are kicked out. In my life I've also had people threaten to beat me up on a subway because their groceries were on a seat on a crowded platform and I had a knife pulled on me because a teenager was hitting his dog and I told him not to (this person was promptly arrested). Am I wrong for telling people to stop doing bad things?

Scott Castro

With recent PC releases suffering from more performance issues, bugs, and optimization problems than their console counterparts (TLOU Part 1, Elden Ring, and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty to name a few), are you more wary to purchase the next AAA title for PC? As someone looking to purchase Jedi Survivor on Day 1, I am genuinely undecided as to whether I will play on console or PC.

Styster

What's an example of a game you've liked, but you weren't good at? Conversely, what's a game you were better than average at, but didn't like?

Alex Vavouyios

Hey all, first, I’m having a blast playing citizen sleeper, it’s really fun so shout out to Jacob for plugging it so much! If as an adult we all had lockers similar to grade school, what would be in your locker at this age?

Josh Johnson

Hey all!! Love the show. How do you make the decision to keep pushing through a game when you initially bounce off of it? Some of my all time favorites (Witcher 3, fallout 3, hollow knight, etc) required multiple attempts to hook me and I hate not knowing if a game I "gave up on" could be one of my all time favorites if I just gave it a chance. Do you have any examples of this? What criteria do you use to keep it on the backlog?

RabidLime

my Maxest Minns, what's your gaming white whale? something you've tried to do countless times but it always escapes you? i mod games a lot. according to Steam, i've spent almost 1000 hours playing Skyrim, which means i've probably spent 5x more time actually modding... just fixing the game and modernizing controls and getting quality of life mods and whatnot... but i never actually play it. never finished the main story. if i ever actually play the game without wanting to tweak it or improving it, hell will probably freeze over. so how's about you? working towards something that will forever be out of reach? Call me, Ishmael

Ryan M

If you could remake any game so that The Muppets played the roles of the game's characters, what game would you remake and which Muppets would be which characters?

BEEFCAKE

If you had to imagine your “happy place” like in the movie happy Gilmore, what’s going on there, huh?

Henry Nguyen

Howdy MinnMax, have y'all pretended to review something for the sake of getting more joy out of it? I find myself being more present when I pretend to review a meal, product, or recent experience.

Shane C

Jacob -- have you done any further exploration of Indian cinema after your love of RRR? If not, I highly highly recommend checking out the YRF Spy Universe movies. They are sort of a cross between the Mission Impossible movies and the Fast and Furious movies and they've attracted some of the biggest stars in India to appear. The most recent entry (Pathaan) finally hit streaming recently, and it RULES. I think every movie in the series is available on Amazon and they definitely scratch a very similar itch to RRR.

InstagramExpert

Hellooooo everyone! So a couple of years after the release of the current gen consoles. I have some sad news. My PC died and I can't afford to get a new one. So my question is very simple. Should I buy a series x or an s. I've been watching several videos about to pros and cons but I'm still not certain. I already own a PS5 so I was wondering what your guys would pick?

Muffyn Crumbs

How about a game? I'm bringing this one back from a few years ago: I'm going to give you a word. Each person has to list a game that begins with that word. This keeps going around until someone can't name one (or they repeat one that's been said) and then they're eliminated. Last one standing wins the round. You can use metacritic to verify if it's a game or not. Alien Street Battle Dark Metal Tales

Howdy Ben and the Carls, I was just re-listening to Episode 4 of the podcast from back in November 2019. I wanted to write in a question about Star Wars Jedi Survivor and needed a refresher on your thoughts of the previous game. You all mention how it’s lame that Cal has to remember his training in order to unlock powers throughout the game. He already knows how to do a wall run but apparently forgot how! But “Oh Yeah! I can do a triple jump and can move things with my mind, I remember now”, isn’t going to cut it a second time. How will they approach this in the sequel? Will they give you all the powers at the jump just to take them away? Or will you always have them? You also said that Bob Barker will be dead any day now. He is now 99 and still kicking. He will turn 100 on December 12th. Second question, will he make it?

Grizzled Gaming

Hey gang! Ben, tell Suriel Grizzled Gaming says "hello". He'll know what it means. I don’t really have a question. I just wanted to say hey to Suriel and tell him we miss him being on the show. Have a great day!

Stevelution

Hey MinnMaxers. After some chat in the Discord I’m wondering how you factor in remakes, remasters and re-releases when it comes to talking about games. In this era of gaming it seems like very muddy waters when talking about past titles. If we talk about The Last of Us being a great game how do you decide which of the 300 versions you’re referring to or do you always default to the original release? Thanks!

Late AyeF

Hey SimmMax 2 M's, Loved The Urbz: Sims in the City stream (Bustin Out next please! 🙏). Yes, we all definitely do have rose tented glasses on for split-screen co-op. What I really want to know is where the heck is modern The Sims with online multiplayer? I'm not even talking about the crowded mess MMO Sims online type deal. Just regular old Sims where I can have even just 4 friends on the same server. I know some mods have somewhat achieved this with a lot of hassle, but what gives EA? Survival games like Valhiem, and Rust, and Minecraft have writen the blueprint already. Just replace fighting hordes of things with the challenges of everyday life, exaggerated in Sims fashion of course. At least an Animal Crossing NH style world visiting system would be nice. We could show off our overpriced DLC content to make our friends jealous enough to purchase it themselves. Do you all have any ideas why EA won't bite?

Phil McKrackup

Hey MinnMax! What’s the better appetizer, bread or chips and salsa? Also, do you think it’s ok to see Evil Dead Rise if I haven’t seen anything from the series? I’ve only played the game. Not the new one either, the one on ps2. I think it was called a fist full of boom stick.

Craig Gilmore

There I was, minding my own business, just thinking about how bad Luis' jacket in Resident Evil 4 Remake was and it made me think... what are distractingly terrible character designs in games you otherwise consider good or great? -- Craig G.

CptCobblePot

Greetings Minnmaxers! What’s a game mechanic that just really grinds your gears? I was playing Bayonetta 1 and the quick time events are just brutal. You are going to require such a precise action, instant kill me if I mess up, and lower my score? Get out of here! So glad RE4 Remake nixed those infamous mechanics. What game mechanic, old or new, do you not like?

Duderado

Hey y'all, I was talking with a friend about his kid playing Mario Kart 8 online and we started talking about how amazing it would have been to grow up with online multiplayer in Mario Kart 64. If you could add online multiplayer to any game from your childhood, what would it be?

Andrew

What would you Star Wars name be? Keep in mind that Elan Sleazebaggano (the death sticks guy from Attack of the Clones) is already taken.

PhillyYeetSteak

Hey Minnmax! How are you about taking recommendations from friends regarding games/movies/TV? I've noticed that I am more likely to take recommendations from strangers online, and rarely check out things my friends and family suggest. Am I a crummy friend? You can tell me.

Garrett Wainstock

Hello, I've realized that video games are not an escape for me, they are a reward. I can't sit down and play a game unless I am comfortable with my mental state and the status of my responsibilities. What precludes you from enjoying a video game? Thannks

thejjuan1

Hello minnmax crew Recently, Horizon burning shores DLC has been reviewed bomb on metacritic. This got so bad that metacritic issued a statement on improving moderation and tools after "abusive, disrespectful" of these reviews. My questions to the panel is there any suggestions to fix user reviews on sites or even market places like steam? Is it worth fixing? Also why did it take this long for a new system to be talked about by metacritic after the discourses of the Last of us part 2 review bombing three years ago? My suggestion is if a user review has the word “Woke” it won’t count towards overall user score. Or a filter system to get rid of 1/10s or even 10/10s to get a better representation of the game by the user score.

beebat

Hi Minnmax! With Tears of the Kingdom just a boomerang’s throw away, I wonder how you prepare for big game releases. Do you go back and play other games in the series, do you take a break so that you can build up your hype for release day, do you schedule time off from work/school?

Starkiller

If you were stranded and the choice was between dying and cannibalism, would you eat someone? Follow up question: would you let someone eat you?

MrButtons

Hey MinnMax Crew, With Tears of the Kingdom quickly approaching release, what do you think will be Nintendo’s next flagship project? A new Mario seems like the logical choice, but I’ve personally been waiting for Donkey Kong to get some love on the Switch.

Jared Piers

Hey Minnmax, Do you think its possible that your favourite game of all time is yet to come out? How about the best game of all time?

Enjikari

Hello minners and maxers!! I remember when I first gave the first Fallen Order game a try - I was blown away with the graphics, the mocap and voice acting, the combat, and the metroidvania-esque exploratory gameplay. Now with the sequel on the horizon, I have high hopes it will be just as good, if not better. What are some direct sequels you've highly anticipated that actually met or exceeded your expectations? Suikoden II, Battlefield 3, and Mega Man X2 come to mind for me.

Jordan Doggett

Hey Minnmax, Do you think that AI will eventually be used to develop a large chunk of games entirely? We are on the way with ubisoft using AI to write dialogue and one of my greatest fears is big budget games to become completely soulless and free of what little charm or life that may remain in such titles. AI has the potential to do great things even in the game space if utilized properly but my fear is that we will reach a day where indie developers will have to proclaim their games as made by humans entirely to let us know the difference about their creation.

Toke F.

Hello MinnMax. As we all know, when a boy turns 5 Y/O he must pick a personality. 1. Trucks and machines 2. Space 3. Military (cowboys included) 4. Dinosaurs (animals included) What did you all choose? (ps. the magnets from MinnMax.com are great, please make more.)

The_Smak

Hey MinnMax, Why are there hardly any video game protagonists with glasses?

Davey Peppers

Hello Minnmax Cohorts, With the (somewhat bizarre) news that YouTuber Markiplier is going to be making his feature directorial/writing debut with an adaptation of David Szymanski's game Iron Lung, do we now have another track for how video game adaptations are produced/marketed? Obviously there are the big budget Sonics and Marios, but between Iron Lung, the FNAF movie, and other "YouTuber games" getting this spotlight, it feels like the video game movie industry is splitting into these two factions the same way the video game content industry seemed to split in the early 2010s, between big budget projects and niche lore-heavy horror indies. Not to imply the Iron Lung film will be bad, but if you could come up with the most cursed director and video game combination, what would it be? (My pick would be Kevin Sorbo's Final Fantasy VII). Thanks for all the great content, this is my first question as a Patreon supporter, and I'm really happy to support good games media!

g

Good afternoon. I'm sure we can all agree that Star Wars has had some issues in the past. Some of these are a bit nitpicky, and some are quite legitimate. My gripe is with the title of episode 5. The empire strikes back? Why not just call it "the empire didn't like what you did in the last movie and is going to attack you now"? Star Wars: Imperial Retribution would be better. Am I nuts or is the original title awful?

Catpurrnicus

This is a question for JeffM, did the Doomed Kerbal 5 ever make it home?

Jonathan Willis

Hello MinndfulMaxilla, what is a board game or type of board game that you wish you could get into? I wish I was more a strategy guy but when I have to command this army and that I end up just bumrushing everything and getting everyone killed out of boredom.

David Johnson

Hello! What is the game you have the most emotional attachment to, that you didn't actually play? My 4 year old has been playing Yoshi's Crafted World for the last few months, has beaten the final boss, and is now in the secret world. I am super proud of him and feel like this game will now be forever burned into the sentimental part of my brain.

Derek Achoy

Because games can be a very time and energy-intensive medium, let alone an expensive one, I feel like it's hard sometimes to "successfully" recommend a title to someone - success meaning they actually try it. So imagine there's a game that you really really really think a friend of yours would love - how do you make that case to them?

Eric Reitz

Hey Ben and Crew! Coming back to a game you never finished, what do you do, start over, or continue where you last left off?

Dusty Beaman

Hello all. Thanks for taking my question (assuming you do). How many pairs of people shared the same name when you worked at game informer? Examples: Ben Hansong/Reeves; Andy Mac/Reiner; Alex Van Aiken/Stadnik, etc

Woodman

As a director and huge cinephile I was taken aback by Ben’s recent hot take on actors. Their job, while it involves deception, should always be about the pursuit of the truth - even in the most outrageous circumstances. They make us feel more human and help us make sense of our lives and sort through complicated emotions. All art deploys similar techniques. Now that I got that off my chest, who is your favorite actor and what movie of theirs should the community watch? Where’s the dueling movie podcast a la Crossfade?

Stark

With Live A Live coming out to PlayStation and PC this week, what are the biggest remaining games to not release outside of Japan? Is there anything (besides Mother 3) you especially want to receive a global release?

KiwiTheGoo

Hey MinnMaxers, my son just turned 2 and apparently that's the age when some screen time is okay, including video games. We've played Minecraft on peaceful mode, just exploring and naming all the animals and it was a hit. What other games might be fun or educational for a toddler

SideEye Bro

Hello Minnmax What is the hardest game that you completed? And what is the hardest game that surprised you how hard it was?

Vilis

Aloha to the Minn to the Max. I had a friend who just got back from a D&D cruise where they were playing D&D every evening for 5 days and he said it was great. Since you all have surely been to countless gaming events, I was wondering if you have ever been privately or for work on a Gaming Cruise of some sort and what your impressions were. If not, do you think you would ever go on one?

BearCommando

Hello Ben and the No Girls Allowed. Tall urinal, or short urinal? I always go for the short one but wonder if I’m a weirdo for it.

Ronmar the Only

Good day, Minimus Maxims! This Friday I will pick up my first Nintendo console since my N64 was forgotten to time (along with my trusty Ocarina) when I was a lucky one and received a PS2 as a Christmas present in 2000 along with the generation defining X-Squad (see link below if you have forgotten about this gem). Two questions: (1) What three games would you consider quintessential for a new Switch player that are not Nintendo first party? (2) What games have provided you with the most memorable new console experience? Personally, I have a host of wonderful new console game experiences, but my favorites are tied between Zelda: A Link to the Past that was bundled in with my SNES and Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind that came with my Xbox that was the console I bought with my own money. I can barely wait to jump back into the Zelda series and just a few short months later to be able to go to the stars in Starfield. https://youtu.be/ArcSrNNb7bg

Kaizoku Risu

With the Steam Puzzle Fest going on this week, do you have any good under-the-radar puzzle game recommendations?

Christian Jimenez

Howdy, I was celebrating 420 last week when this thought crossed my mind. What is the worst social nightmare one can imagine? Mine is what if you knew everyone in the world. I think the cons outweighs the pros here. What do you all say?

Jake Z

If you had to choose one video game character to be your roommate, who would you choose and why?

Michael Baker

In the video game Chicory: A Colorful Tale, your answer to the question "What is your favorite food?" determines the name of your protagonist doggo. (I chose 'Gnocchi', fyi). What did you (or would you) choose as your character's name? Did playing Chicory ever make you hungry for your chosen food item?

Patrick G

Megaman and Link have appear in different game series under their same name. For example he’s called megaman in the x series, classic, legends, battle network, etc, but it’s not the same megaman. Link is a different Link in almost every game. Windwaker, twilight, majora, etc. Are these the only examples of this? Mario is just Mario and it’s assumed it’s the same one. I find it interesting these characters can all be part of a franchise but are almost never the same character.

Patrick Hughes

Ahoy good MinnMax! Game demos come in many shapes and forms. Some put you at the start of the game carrying over progress while other demos jump you into the middle of the adventure, while some are unique experiences to the demo itself. What's your preferred style of demo and why?

Luca Alberti

Hi MinnMax! With the release of Advance Wars 1+2: Reboot Camp I can proudly say that I now own all 4 Advance Wars mainline titles. What are some complete, possibly shorter, series that you are particularly proud to own all the entries of?

John

Howdy. What is the oldest game with the newest remake?

Ian Christopher

When I was 10, I played Ocarina of Time on the 3DS for the first time. In the car on the way to a breakfast buffet, I pulled the master sword and witnessed the consequences, and was completely shocked. For the entire breakfast I was entirely out of it, worrying my family. Do any of you have similar experiences?

Hank

If you had a light saber (or as George Lucas called them, "a laser sword") how quickly do you reckon you'd lop off an extremity? I think I'd lose some portion of a leg within 5 minutes.
