Hey MinnMax, I’m in a wedding this weekend. Do you guys have any good bachelor/bachelorette party stories?

Victor Pham

Yakuza used to be a niche series and there had to be a large fan campaign just to get Yakuza 5 localized. Now there's an audible pop when Kiryu is shown at Summer Game Fest. Did the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series have the biggest glow up within the last decade?

Jason Wojnar

Imagine that today until the end of time all new video game releases stopped. Do you think you could enjoy your gaming life or do you think the culture of new releases and looking forward to the future is too big a part of your life as a gamer?

Simon Kirwin

Hey MinnMaxonians, with so many good games coming out and so many more to come, which game do you know you are most going to regrettably skip out on that you probably won't go back to play?

ChazCheeto

Hey MM! Got a topical Q regarding the new release hype cycle. When I know a game is something I'll be interested in playing, I usually go blackout on the pre-release trailers and previews. As people in the content business, ya'll have to cover that stuff much more closely. The question is: do each of you have series where your anticipation is so great, you'd try to skip a live reaction stream or similar coverage to stay blind to what a new entry might hold?

Tom Rickard

Hey MinnMax! Since most you just recently went on a long trip, I have a travel question. What is your craziest or most interesting travel story? Mine is the time my girlfriend and I went to LA to visit Universal Studios for our first time and at a restaurant nearby ran into a random Aaron Paul of Need for Speed fame. Love the show!!

Ramses Garcia

Did the field trip to LA make you miss having the gaming world in LA instead of just streaming shows?

Cath

Hellow! If MinnMax had a ride at an amusement park, what would it be!

Rikimaru

Hello! How does everyone feel about the "Active Time Lore" seen in Final Fantasy XVI? It seems like a brilliant system that I wish was in games sooner. You can use it by holding the touch pad at any time during a cutscene for relevant information about key characters, locations, and events to better understand the story, while also limiting the amount of exposition required in cutscenes for others who may not care as much. What game or series would each of you like to have Active Time Lore in the most and why?

Chandler

Since you just went to Nintendo land world whatever. What would be your dream theme for a theme park? Like if they announced they're building "a _____ themed park" , what would you 100% book a trip to immediately? Also Ben/Ben's replacement how jealous are you?

alexok37

Questions for Sarah/Ben, any specific must-see things in Tokyo/Kyoto for a video game/weeby couple? After the recent trip does everyone think Nintendoland Japan is worth the half day? I'm sure she's been asked many times, and Ben has been asked recently, but would love to hear it again if you've got time. I'm going for a 10-day trip this fall. Thanks!

Andy Dwyer

Now that we’ve had all the streams are you now more or less convinced E3 will or even should come back?

Derek Achoy

How confident are you in your hand washing? Let's say you had to handle something really gross like poop with your bare hands. After washing up, are you ready to immediately... 1. Eat saucy chicken wings with your hands? 2. Cook a meal for guests (that you like) 3. Floss your teeth?

Bryan Tylec

Hey everyone, my absolute favorite thing about this year's Summer Game Fest was the droid ND-5, who was just randomly wearing a jacket and a belt in the Star Wars Outlaws footage from the Ubisoft Forward showcase. If you were a droid, what random article of clothing would you be known for?

Fatt Mish

Hello MinnMax and friends. I was recently thinking about all the great games I've purchased over the past few months and how many I'll never finish. With that in mind, I started wondering what percentage of all the games I've ever bought have I actually completed. If you had to estimate the total percentage of games you've completed that you've owned, what do you think that number would be? I'm guessing I'd be well under 5%... and maybe even less than a 1% completion rate. Anyway, love the show. Take Care, _Mars

Dusty Beaman

Hello all, thanks for taking my question! Should be an easier one but a good discussion: What is the most annoying enemy ever in a video game? (The "dogs" in Elden Ring is it for me. They are just so annoying and fast and do way too much damage) Looking forward to your answers!

Rory

Hey CLCs long time first time here. With the reddit blackouts this week I’ve found myself going back to something I haven’t done in a while: reading books and articles instead of scrolling for hours. It’s honestly really refreshing! I was wondering what your takes are on the situation. Personally I will probably end up having to return for niche school, gaming, and software dev subreddits after a break but it has definitely made me reflect on the amount of time I waste each day on reddit.

ImABiggyBoi

Hey everybody! Not enough love has gone to Leo for leading the deepest dive on Like A Dragon Ishin earlier this year. I didn't play a long, but I quite enjoyed getting to hear about it from him, Sarah, and Jacob. My question is slightly related. If you could choose any game from your past (or future) to lead a deepest dive on, either as an experienced guide or a new player, what would it be? Is there something from the past that you want to lead discussion on? Or is there a future game that you're hyped for that would likely otherwise not get chosen for the format? Thanks and congrats Ben on joining the gamer dad gang ❤️

Thom Blackburn

Is it even possible to catch up with the Yakuza/like a dragon/judgment series at the rate that they are releasing games? How long to beat has them averaging at 28 hours to go through the critical path and averaging at 113hrs for a completionist run across all titles*. At this rate, could they actually be turning people away from trying them? Thanks! *not including Yakuza 1 or 2 because I've replaced them with their Kiwami versions or Yakuza dead souls because it isn't available in the US

Pelicanman

Having just bought the Starfield controller and a fight stick for Street Fighter 6, I was wondering: What are your favorite weird or special controllers?

Stark

Square Enix seems really committed to releasing demos for all of their games. Do you think this strategy is working for them?

Joshua Ayers

What's the shortest time you've spent with a demo you loved? I had to stop playing the FFXVI demo after the tutorial fight- the story was so good and the fighting so fun, I only want to play once I have the full game.

Adam_CW

Who is the next celebrity Geoff Keighley will bring out?

Benjamin

Howdy Gang! Near the beginning of the Xbox showcase Sarah Bond called Starfield "one of the most important RPGs ever made" Do you think that's going to end up being true? Is there an RPG you would say is probably more important than Starfield?

Blazingscourge

What game or studio disappointed you by not making an appearance at SGF?

Kraven Morcome

Hey MinnMax, I would like to officially request a deepest dive for the biggest game of October 2023. That's right, Alan Wake 2! In all seriousness I know that Spiderman 2 would probably get more views but I would hate to see one of my favorite game franchises not get the coverage it deserves. Let me know what tier of Patreon I need to pledge to make this happen. P.S. if this does happen you need a lore expert like Huber to round out the crew.

Brainfreeze

Hey Minnmax, I enjoyed the showcases this year, but it never really felt like E3 to me until the Giant Bomb @ Nite streams hit. Seeing so many different corners of the industry gathering and having interesting discussions brought back feelings I haven't had since before Covid. Please tell some fun stories from your time there.

DangerZone

Hey Crew, My sleeper pick for game I am most hyped for from Summer Game Fest was John Carpenter's Toxic Commando. An open-world zombie shooter where your HQ is a tank you traverse the world in sounds like a lot of fun with friends. What are everyone's sleeper picks for more hyped game from the showcase? Thanks!

Marc Levender

What is the best named gaming showcase?

wittynicknamehere .

Even though it's not TECHNICALLY E3 and some would say that disqualifies it, can the moment that that one heckler yelled "Redfall 2 when?" and Phil Spencer heard it, panicked, and blurted out "Tears of the Kingdom is coming to Gamepass!" still get grandfathered in to the list of Most Memorable E3 Moments?

Michael Lane

Hi MinnMax crew, I just finished playing through Star Wars Jedi Survivor, and one design choice stuck out to me: fall damage is not negated by the game's double-jump. To me this feels completely contradictory to the spirit of the double-jump, and is not how this mechanic operates in most other games with a double-jump. Which brings me to my question: can you think of any other games that have an egregious mishandling of a common mechanic?

Travis in Fargo

The last Taco John’s in my town just closed down permanently. How do you move on when the only thing you love goes away? (For those who aren’t lucky enough to know, Taco John’s is a Midwestern Tex-Mex fast food chain that began in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1969. They are the home of the celebrated Potato Olés, and according to their corporate website, created the concept of Taco Tuesday).

Shakenbake67

Hey Minnmaxers, my question is for the cool SGF crew(sorry Ben). I really enjoyed you guys(and Ana, Blessing, and Andy) on the Giant Bomb couch. How was that experience overall? From getting there, to getting ready to go live on the couch, to directly afterwards, how was that whole experience. From being a big fan of GB Leo, how was being a part of that?

Ben with one N

Hellooo MinnMax! My question is for Janet, and it's not really a question - I just wanted to confirm that Blinx: The Time Sweeper holds up in 2023. I'm not memeing here, I've been playing through it on Game Pass for the past day or two and it's been a blast. It's a really interesting puzzle platformer that people should try. I mean, this game did Tears of the Kingdom's recall ability 21 freakin years ago! Also, fun fact, the character of Blinx was created by Naoto Ohshima, who created Sonic. Anyway, I'm throwing my hat in the ring for a Blinx playthrough. This game deserves more love than it gets! Blinx forever!

Luca Alberti

Hello panel! Are we sleeping on the odds of Alan Wake 2 being a GOTY nominee due to the Starfield hype? Alan Wake fits the classic GOTY nominee like a glove: third-person narrative title, impressive visuals, not too bloated and previews made on an early build already claim the game to be quite polished. Feel free to use this as a mid-point check on 2023 to guess what games will be nominated.

MrButtons

Hey MinnMax Crew! Hanson brought up an interesting observation on a recent podcast that games having dual protagonists seems to be a growing trend with upcoming releases. How do you all feel about this? Do you enjoy seeing multiple perspectives in games or prefer following one central character through a story? P.S. been loving Janet’s takeover of MinnMax social media. Keep up the good work!

DarkFishDays

Are there any words that you intentionally pronounce incorrectly in your head? Maybe because I had trouble spelling them as a kid, for island and business I always think “is-land” and “buzz-i-ness.”

Pablo Castillo

Summer games fest crew, the world wants to know: What does Keleigh smell like?

Stevelution

Hey everyone! What game design trope makes you want to scream into the void? For me it’s ‘invisible quicksand’, when a game takes control of my character away to allow them to only move really slowly, like I’ll be jogging or running then all of a sudden I grind to a slow walk. Rather than be atmospheric it just drives me up the wall. What are some of the things that really drive you crazy?

Joe Kafchinski

The Microsoft Showcase was undoubtedly a banger, so I don't want to harsh the vibes, but... We got updates on Fallout 76, Sea of Thieves, Elder Scrolls Online, Flight Simulator - even Overwatch 2, with silence on Halo Infinite. The Brawlhalla montage segment had more Halo content than the Microsoft showcase. Obviously this isn't where MS expected the game to be at this point. Do you think there's any chance of a Halo Infinite 2.0-type resurgence? What should they do with this game and franchise?

Luis Pérez

Hiya crew! With the announcement of Bennett Foddy's new game, Baby Steps, in which you literally play by placing one foot in front of the other , I started thinking: what mundane task would make for a good game? Mine would be sorting food cabinets in a restaurant. Greetings from Mexico!

PhillyYeetSteak

Welcome back, crew! Not a question, but I need to know Leo's thoughts about Riders Republic getting skateboarding added as a sport

Lamb Dance

Hey, after watching a bunch of shows this week, do you want lay down an opinion on ideal presentation length? In my mind, 45 minutes is the sweet spot for a standard event - decent amount of content but not too overstuffed. I get going going over an hour for your big presentation of the year. 2 hours, to me, is exhausting and only worth it for a really huge event like a pre-console launch presentation. This SGF Geoff's show wasn't too bad, but still longer than I think it should be. I was happy with the Xbox showcase - 1 hour for the main show, the Starfield segment just a bonus.

RickyWinterborn

can the california crew describe the mario kart ride for me second by second? i went to mario land but couldn't stomach the 3 hour wait to try the ride.

RynaGoGo

Howdy Ben and the Lers, My niece is named Skyler. What’s up with that name? Not saying it’s a freak name but it is different. Someone liked the word Sky and just added ler to it to make it more namey. I tried to think of something I like and add ler to it to make a name but nothing sounded right. Can you make a good ler name that doesn’t sound like a Pokémon? Cloudler? Grassler? Treeler? Street Fighter 6ler?!?

James Welsh

How comfy was the Giant Bomb couch? Also for Sarah, was it better or worse than the Minnmax studio chair?

TheMasterDS

Random thought, if you were to mix in a question from a MinnMax podcast from ages ago do you think the people on the podcast could work out which one was the repeat question? Would be a fun little challenge to do right before best question of the week.

Joe Dean

After SGF ended people pointed out the complete lack of female representation on the stage. Obviously there are tons of female developers, and while I don't think it was malicious, it's an obvious mistake from Geoff Keighley. I'd love to get y'alls thoughts about what should be done going forward. Does Keighley need a female co-producer and host to help bring a more diverse representation? How can the community help bring about better representation in this show?

Mathew Angelly

Between the crunch issues, switching to UE, and no longer having an exclusive license to Lego. What do you think is going on at Traveler's Tales? I love the Lego games, maybe I'm a little baby gamer 🤪

The Sleepy MailMan

Hey, MinnMax! In light of the recent Matt Booty/Phil Spencer interview, do you think gamers would revolt if games became shorter, but focused more on gameplay? With games now taking 5-6 years to develop, something’s gotta give, right?

SpaceTowel

Hey there! As I was watching the shows this week my wife walked in and said “this is the longest commercial I’ve ever seen.” As a gamer, I’ve never viewed these shows as commercials, but yeah my wife is right, that’s exactly what they are. How did I let video game companies trick me in to my excitement?! Lol

Vilis

Too many games, yo, too many games.

Michael Berry

Did you all get to see Miyamoto walking around in a Donkey Kong mech suit at Super Nintendo World?

ChickenHarm

On one of the recent episodes, you were discussing veterans in the industry, specifically ones who have remained at one company. Most names mentioned, Miyamoto, Sakurai, etc. were Japanese. In Japan, I hear it’s common to stay at one company, while in the US, it’s incentivized to leave your employer for better compensation. Is it fair to say this is why most auteurs in the industry leave their long-running games in the hands of their old companies? Diablo and Mass Effect are a few that come to mind. Which IPs do you wish still had their original creators?

Justin Dale

Hello LA Crew plus Ben! With the drop of the Final Fantasy 16 demo, I’m wondering what your all time favorite demo you have played was (home, conference, on site…)? I think this one took the cake for me. Really enjoyed the combat samples, and I’m already hooked on the initial villain.

Juz10

Hi Minnmax. Pretend that you were suddenly the host of Summer Game Fest (Sorry Geoff Keighley). You are given magical powers that make what ever game you announce real, and it will release holiday 2023. You can make one Playstation, one Xbox, and one Switch reveal. What games are you revealing to create the most hype and make the most people happy? PS - wanted to let you know my name Juz10 is pronounced like Buzz-10 not Jewz10 :)

Alex Britt

Hi MinnMaxxers! Do you think we have hit peak scummy micro transactions, or do you think there is more terrible monetization coming for the gaming world in the future? It feels like it's cooling to me overall, but what do I know? Thanks a bunch! Alex Britt

Phil McKrackup

Hey MinnMax! Since the news came out that Starfield will be locked at 30 FPS on consoles, I started wondering what we were seeing during the Starfield Direct. Do you think all of that gameplay was 30 FPS or do you think we were seeing powerful PC 60 FPS gameplay. Also does this news affect your excitement for the game if you were planning on playing it on console? How much do you think it matters?

beebat

Do you think that people would be better off if online shopping never took off? On one hand you can have pretty much anything you want in 2 days or less without stepping foot outside your house, but on the other - malls are dying, midnight releases are almost a thing of the past, and soon kids may never get to experience toy stores.

BEEFCAKE

I can’t think of a question so I’ll just type in “what” and keep tapping the center auto correct What do I need for that question and I can do a search on it for the answers? Perfect. Just what I wanted to ask. Thank you, iPhone.

Virgil B

Are you going to play Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth with the English dub or Japanese with subtitles? The latest trailer revealed there will be English speakers in the game. Like a Dragon got me into the Yakuza games and I played it with English voices. But going back through the games I’ve gotten used to the Japanese voices of the cast. I think with both languages used, it makes me more inclined to play with Japanese voices.

Adam

Hey Ben: Since it might be the last time we see you until August, could you give us your takes now on all the news and events that will or could happen over the next two months? You'll be missed, ~Adam

Linn

I was disappointed to hear that Avatar will be first person. I get terrible motion sickness from first person games, and just can't play them. I feel sad to miss out on this, just because of this design. What do you think are the main reasons for a game to be first or third person? Shoutout to games like Fallout, where you can choose for yourself!

James Ford

Hey Cohorts, when on a flight, how quickly do you hook into your inflight entertainment?

Tokyo Game Life

Hi MinnMax, In every Final Fantasy XVI trailer, we see a logo for the game’s dev team, “Creative Business Unit III”. Are we supposed to be excited when we see this bland combination of words? Nintendo also labels their internal teams with numbers such as EPD4, but they are wise enough not to flash that name during a trailer.

Andrew Danglis

Hey Horts, How wildly inappropriate is taking your shoes off while watching a movie at a movie theatre? Are there any social environments, aside from beaches or other water activities, where bare feet are not frowned upon?

Sachin Bahal

Hey MinnMax crew, Since Illumination's The Super Mario Bros. Movie made $1.3 billion dollars, there are rumours circulating that multiple new Nintendo movies are in the works now by Illumination including: The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2, a Luigi's Mansion movie, a Donkey Kong movie, and The Legend Of Zelda movie, what are your guy's thoughts on these rumoured movies? I think a Legend Of Zelda animated movie would work better if it was being done by DreamWorks and the animators that did the Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, which had a lot of Spider-Verse inspiration. Thanks and keep up the awesome work! Sachin from Toronto, Canada (Link to rumour here: https://www.joblo.com/nintendo-movie-rumor/)

Malcolm Holliday

Hey MinnMax, with PSone/N64 style graphics becoming more popular with indie devs, what's an era or graphics you would like to see a resurgence of next? Personally I'd love to see more pre render/fixed camera backgrounds like early Resident Evil or Final Fantasy 8.

Uberw177

Hello MinnMax! So I like to give nice hearty hugs to everyone I know, been doing it for a year or so and recently I stopped doing it just because I’ve been in a hurry or something has my attention. Over a week or so everyone has asked me what’s going on and if something is the matter and I found out it was because I hadn’t given them a hug! So heres my questions, do you normally do something with everyone you meet handshake/hug etc and have you ever stopped doing it that makes them ask if something is up? Keep up the great work!

Aron Roberts

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon gameplay was shown behind closed doors to the press, and an edited version of the gameplay footage was released to the public this morning--ARE YOU EXCITED YET? I'm curious if any of you have thoughts on From Software returning to a 24 yr old franchise after essentially establishing a new subgenre of action-role playing games in their souls-borne lineup over the last decade.

Talyn

So Starfield… it’s basically No Man’s Sky cross Outer Worlds then? Doesn’t look like you can land anywhere on a planet like NMS and you can only pick landing spots? Only part of that deep dive that got me excited was the ship building. Did Leo, Sara, or Janet get to play and if so… thoughts? Am I wrong to not be excited for this and wish it was just a new Fallout? Where’s the crews hype level cause I think we can all agree Bethesda needs a win here.

Jeorin

Hey all, I can't think of anything video game related to ask. So, what's your favorite doughnut? I like a good chocolate iced custard filled doughnut.

Francisco

Last week Ben was wondering about the sonic superstars dev, and we may have found out why they were being tight lipped: it’s Arzest, the co-developer of a little game called balan wonderworld. This got me thinking about the beauty in second chances. My question is what dev team out there could most use a redemption arc?

Anthony Brown

I cannot believe I heard such slander against such a small indie startup as Apple for such a cheap product as the Vision Pro! In all seriousness I think the Vision Pro, set aside it’s price, is demonstrating what VR needs to do to gain father adoption as is possible right now. VR has been stuck in gaming for years because who would develop a consumer facing program that works best in VR if almost no one has a headset and they don’t want to wear them. The Vision Pro shows a headset that can do your regular work well, can pair to your laptop if you need more power, can be used to immerse yourself if desired, or can be used to become easily available to other so you don’t have to take off the headset if someone in your house wants to bother you. I’ve heard the pass through feels like you’re almost not wearing the headset and the interface for regular apps is incredibly intuitive. It’s battery life is in line with Oculus Quest Pro and Oculus Quest 2, and the battery is plugged in by usb C so you can daisy chain a larger battery or just pass through a charger if using for over 2 hours in a single setting. The technology has compromises but if this was available for $1000 everyone would buy one. If this is what one of the largest companies can do today I can’t wait to see what they can do in 5 years when they have produced enough to lower manufacturing costs and to see what developers do with the apps they make for it. Also did they get to try Starfield and will it fulfill my 20 year craving for an EV Nova successor where I can mine asteroids or trade between outposts?
