What’s one quality of life feature in games today you couldn’t go back to not having? For me it’s being able to pause cutscenes. Playing some older games recently without that feature just felt wrong. What stick out for you? - Stephen Stitt

What was the Barbenheimer of video games?

Shakenbake67

Hey Minnmaxers and Dan Ryckert(my guess at the mystery host, if I’m wrong, then do your best Dan ryckert impersonation) What are your thoughts on the current state of the dual sense? When the PS5 first came out, I loved it seeing the implementation in early ps5 games but now that we are a couple years into launch I feel like fairly few games use it’s capabilities. However the worst part is the TERRIBLE battery life. I have two controllers and have to CONSTANTLY switch every hour or two cause these controllers have the worst battery life and can’t hold a charge. So im in the camp of the dual sense is terrible and we need the dual shock back!! What are your thoughts?

Ben Shively

Has anybody gotten back into Call of Duty since the servers were fixed? I’ve been back on Modern Warfare 2 (2009) and I love it. It honestly shows how the newer entries have never matched the fun levels of the classic games. Current CoD’s feel like they were built from the ground up to take money from consumers, where the classic ones have a feeling of passion and excitement at their core that you can feel from their development teams.

Steven Toth

If Nintendo turned the town you grew up in into the next Mario Kart 8 DLC city track, what would be the predominant feature/obstacle in the course?

Nate T. Trees

Hey Minnmax! When you go into a character creator for a new game, what’s your usual game plan? Do you try to make a character that resembles yourselves, try to make a crazy looking weirdo, etc.? Does it depend on the game your playing?

Josh LaBaw

What Dog bread do you identify with the most?

Jason Wojnar

Do people often misjudge or assume your taste in things and does it upset you? My friends seem to have this idea that all I watch are big budget blockbusters. While I love James Bond, Mission Impossible and it's ilk, I also have a profound love of Eastern European cinema, particularly Ukrainian films, that they never seem to acknowledge.

Mike Lynch

Radiohead supposedly recorded their album Kid A (a stylistic left turn) with the intention of slimming down their burgeoning fan base. Is there a video game developer, musician, or filmmaker that made a *wild* artistic left turn that you enjoyed?

Chandler

Hello Minnmax. The podcast description says this podcast might discuss feelings and that got me thinking. How honest are you with others about your feelings? And how does that make you feel? Also hi Eric and ghost. Idk who you are but I'm glad you're here

Travis in Fargo

Time to don your speculation hats! Fast forward 100 years. What is the best case scenario for humanity’s relationship with artificial intelligence? And what do you think is the realistic/probable scenario with humanity’s use of AI?

David Dubs

Hey Folks! What would you say is the appropriate amount of showers before you change out the towel you use to dry yourself?

SuperMediocreMan

Hey MinnMax! What name is the most common name in your life? Look into your phone contacts and see which first name appears the most. I discovered I have a lot of Austin’s and Emily’s in my life. All good people too!

Cath

In the honnor of Barbie talk, let’s talk Barbie video game! Try to answer these question -how many Barbie video games are there ? (23) -on which system could you play the oldest game? (Commodore 64,1984, Barbie. simulator for getting ready to go out, in which Ken invited Barbie on a series of dates – to the pool, a party, a tennis match ) -which Barbie video game was recently put in the video game hall of fame at New York (Barbie fashion designer, 1996) - In the 2000 PlayStation game which job did Barbie have ( Detective! - detective Barbie: mystery cruise) - in 2001, Barbie is trying to capitalize on another great female video game protagonis, who? (Lara Croft - Barbie explorer was an obvious take of tomb raider) - find the title of the game through this description: this 2D adventure platformer had Barbie travelling the world attempting to track down the stolen crown jewels, using an arsenal of gadgets and stealth abilities to escape enemies and solve puzzles. A cross between Prince of Persia and Metal Gear Solid, but with better outfits. « Secret agent Barbie, 2001, game boy advance) - in 2008 how many platform is Barbie Horse adventure: riding camp release? (5! GBA, ps2, wii,ds, pc) - which piece of littérature Barbie reprise in her 2009 game? (Dumas’ the three musketeers ! Barbie and the Three Musketeers Ds, Wii and Pc)

Modestbrock

At this point is Mario Kart 8 just Nintendo's version of a live service game?

Stark

The success of Barbie is a reminder that studios don’t usually invest in female-driven IPs in the same way they do for men. What do you think is the biggest game in recent memory that was primarily designed with a female audience in mind?

Kraven Morcome

Hey MinnMax, How do you all feel about the theater going experience? I know most people think it has gotten too expensive, but to me it is the best way to enjoy a movie and something I am more passionate about then I realized. This weekend I got to enjoy two amazing movies in Barbie and Oppenheimer, but what surprised me more was that when I saw the huge crowds at the theater I got emotional because it was the first time in years I felt like people were excited to be at the movies again.

Michael Griffin

How do you eat your popcorn? One piece at a time, or multiple pieces at once? I find myself having to do multiple pieces at once.

Veggie

However far down the road this may be, what do you think Nintendo's next move is for the Legend of Zelda franchise? Do you think that they will make another BOTW/TOTK style game, or that they will try to reinvent the series once more? Or maybe go back to something more traditional? I loved TOTK, but I do think that if they are going to make another sequel game, it would probably need to take place in a whole new realm, as I'm not sure they could reuse the base map of Hyrule a 3rd time and still keep things interesting.

Jarell Pryor

Hey folks, I got a chance to see Barbie opening weekend. But we happened to be in a theater with a crying baby. (The irony wasn't lost on us. Being unable to fully focus on a movie about the hardships of womanhood. Right near a single-mom probably trying to have a good night out, but unable to quiet the baby) We ignored it the best we could and still did enjoy the movie. How do you all feel about movie disruption? Are you able to mostly ignore things, or have certain noises really impacted your movie experience? - Jarell

Medimonster

Sup MinnMaxers, I've been learning game design and trying to break into the industry. Something I've learned about, that I had never heard of before joining this community of devs, is game jams. These are short marathons to create a game as fast as possible. A lot of games from jams eventually became full fledged games (hollow knight, Celeste, baba is you, etc.). My question is, how come it seems the game journalism industry doesn't cover game jams often? It seems like a great way to point people towards indie developers through bite sized games!

Malcolm Holliday

Hey Minnmax! What's the most recent game that completely clicked with you in every aspect?

Fear Rabbit Teeth

What are some of your favorite kart racers that aren’t Mario Kart? Are there any you feel rival Mario Kart or are they a ‘We have McDonalds at home’ situation? For me, Crash Team Racing had some interesting features but there’s still very few games that feel as good as Mario Kart.

Ryan Drake

Sometime last year you guys did an episode about “The Greatest Games of All Time that nobody talks about.” The premise (for those who missed it!) was that basic, universally loved games like Tetris, Wordle, Peggle, etc deserve a place in the GOAT conversation. And after owning a Switch for two years now, I’d like to throw MK8 Deluxe’s hat into the ring as well. I’ve played a ton of games in my life but none of them have the shelf life that MK8 has had for me. I have played it at least once a week for the past two years, and it’s never boring. Every race on 150 or 200cc stresses me out in a good way and I find new ways to win or lose a race every time I play. The TLDR here is: MK8 is really fun. It’s always been fun. The updates are fun. And I can’t imagine it ever not being fun. I think it’s now in my GOAT conversation the same way that Tony Hawks Pro Skater and Bejeweled are.

RickyWinterborn

hello not-bens, if you had to present one video game to an alien to showcase the medium as best as possible which game would it be? think i'd boot up mario 64 for them.

Lamb Dance

Hey MinnMax, with the whole phenomena of people dressing in pink for Barbie — have you ever gone all out for your outfit to a pop-culture event?

Ziggy Hixson

Hey Minnmaxers! What is a piece of media that seemed mythical to you at a young age? For example, the way I heard people talk about Myst as a kid made it seem like this almost religious artifact, something unknowable. When I actually found it at a game store and played it, I was pretty disappointed to find out that it was just a series of pre-rendered screens to click through. Have any of you had a similar experience with a game or movie? Thanks!

Eric G

Now that Pikmin 4 is out and hopefully puts more of a spotlight on Pikmin-likes. What is your favourite Pikmin or Pikmin-like? Tinykin got a lot of attention last year when it released but the genre (if you can call it that) is still pretty niche. My favourite is a Wii game called Little King's Story. I played it having never played Pikmin (or even knew it was similar) and absolutely fell in love with the gameplay and story. It still stands as one of my favourite Wii games.

Joe Kafchinski

I've been playing through all the Frogwares Sherlock Holmes games and it's really interesting to see their capabilities increase with each entry. They try to introduce a thread tying the cases together in Crimes & Punishments but it's extremely weak and ultimately pointless. But they nail it in Devil's Daughter only to introduce useless open world areas that they end up vastly improving upon in Chapter One. (Side note, it's also fun how Sherlock gets 15 years younger between games.) What are your favorite examples of studios "levelling up" (sorry) from game to game?

Fred Dinovo

What are you all more excited for, Starfield the game or the Starfield Xbox controller? Personally I may never play the game but I will be picking up that slick controller.

RabidLime

can you recognize your significant other's handwriting? or best friend, work partner, whoever you're closest to. could you at least pick it out from a lineup of similar handwriting? with everything being digital, very few things are written by hand nowadays.

Vilis

Not a Question, but I just wanted to say thanks for selecting me for the Sennheiser microphone contest. Once it arrives and I mess around with it a bit I'll try and share what I'm doing with it. I know the cliche thing to say is "Oh, I never win these things" but what I always say about any contest or competition is: the only way to guarantee you don't win is by not entering. Enter all the contests you can (for free, this isn't to endorse gambling) and you'll win some great stuff 😀

Jared Piers

Hey Minnmax! My question is for the secret guest, who I am assuming is Ben's new baby, little clunky. Whats it like being a baby?

Vincent L.

What should the baseball teams do at the MLB trade deadline (August 1st)? Any specific trades you are hoping to see?

Shawninator

Hey Minnmax crew! What's the best "I've only played it at a friend's house" game experience you've had? I feel like there are often games we only play at or with friends, but don't really interact with it outside of that. Why do we do that? The one that comes to my mind is that I once played SimAnt at a friend's house back in the day on the SNES. I remember it being super cool, but I never got a copy of my own, though I still would consider buying it these days. It's also playing board games at a friend's house that got me real into board game, so I guess you could include those if you wanted.

MarriottPlayer

Hi MM, What’s the best movie theater experience you’ve ever had? Best,

Victor Pham

Is it okay to still enjoy Marvel movies and shows?

Mason Cowell

Hey all! What's a game you've knocked off your back log recently that was way better than you thought it would be? I just downloaded and beat Prey (the Arkane one) and absolutely adored it. Things like an awesome jetpack, really solid gunplay and power ups, and an incredibly intricate world really took me by surprise. What about you all?

SlickJames

If Minnmax had a Mortal Kombat style tournament which of you would win?

Fatt Mish

Hello Minnmax friends. At what age do you think you were or will be, at your gaming height? In other words, when do you think you'll be the most capable of competing in or completing games in a mental and physical capacity? Thank you for the wonderful show. -Mars from MN

Linn

Hi! Whats your thoughts on r/place? And if a similar canvas was to be created in the Minnmax community, what kind of artworks would we see?

KLCT00

Hey MinnMax, first there was 50 vs Kanye, now Barbie vs Oppenheimer, besides Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing, can you think of any other examples of strange pairings of games in the hype cycle?

Spencer P

Hi Minnmax! My question is simple: Would you rather be a pirate, a samurai, or a cowboy? Note I did steal this from the internet.

Bob Buel

Howdy gang! Very psyched Erik got a day off from being Mr. Adal Rifai's butler to host the pod! A nice simple question - what are your favorite road trip games?

SlyCut

What's your favorite amusement park ride?

Dan Villone

Since Twitter is now called "X", is "tweeting" now called "kissing"? I'm definitely not going to call it "X'ing". I know I will enjoy hearing people say things like: "I wish Elon Musk would think before he 'kisses'." Spread the word! XOXO Dan

Graham Jones

Missed joke opportunity: last week on the pod. Kyle was talking about kingdom hearts and said he got through the toy story land but then got lost in the tangled land. But no one suggested that he may have gotten himself all TANGLED up in the level...

CaffeineDad

hey gang i see this week you’re talking about mario kart 8, a game that will famously never ever get a sequel. what other games do you love but know will never get that sweet sequel love? my pick is playstation all-stars battle royale, or “good smash” as i like to call it.

Phelix Diaz

Do you think of game saves and respawns as alternate timelines? Like everytime you die or create a new save you are creating a new timeline for that character?

D M

If you are talking about Pikmin, are you aware that pikmin 1 could be played on PC? they accidentally included a windows executable on the disk!

Virgil B

How do you make the distinction between a game that is not for you and a game that you think is bad? Would games be better if they catered to the dedicated few or rather the onboarding of new players?

Christian Thomas

This feels almost feels like bait but I'm sure most minnmaxers might wonder. Mr Silver what are your top three most influential games you've admired throughout your life. Always seems a handy reference for an esteemed guest such as yourself 💖.

MyNameIsDan

Hey super mega mystery host or whatever, The hype for you has been so built up, why don't you tell us a joke? Come on, make us laugh.

Franciscus

Silver is the color/material of most swords and other melee weapons. What are your most memorable melee weapons in gaming?

CrabPalace

I went to see Barbie yesterday in a group of 10 very excited people, many of whom had dressed up for the event. Half an hour into the film, the projector died and we had to leave without seeing the rest of the movie. Have you ever had any unusual movie-going experiences?

Innocuoususer

Now that it has been almost three months, is it safe to call the release of Redfall one of the greatest PR moves in history? They had to release it to avoid it being Scalebound 2.0, but they knew they had a turd. So they released it ten days prior to Tears of the Kingdom and a month prior to the June Xbox showcase / Starfield Deepdive (which they probably knew would be well received). As bad as the Redfall stories got for those ten days, the Redfall conversation disappeared amongst thousands of Tears of the Kingdom "best builds" videos. Has there ever been a better burying of a major first-party bomb?
