Hey Minnmax, Help me out here. Is it weird to drink milk? Just a tall, cold glass of cows milk. Many thanks.

I was a grown a** adult before I heard of the concept of save scumming, aka “save shamming.” What’s the deal with this? I appreciate being able to save anytime I darn well please.

Mike Lynch

My family made Scotch Eggs recently, which is an egg wrapped in breaded sausage. What is your favorite dish that is a type of food crammed into another food?

Travis in Fargo

What are your top 3 brunch items (including drinks)?

dmoreno

Venba is an absolute delight! What is that one dish your parents/family or friends would make that brings you right back to childhood Ratatouille style? (this is a reference to that grumpy food critic scene when he eats the ratatouille but insert yourself as game critic)

Spencer P

With the new FF14 expansion being more of a "vacation" arc it seems. What games are your favorites that start with the idea of going on a vacation? Thanks all!

Cath

Continuing the questions from the party chat for those who didn’t answer - what is your favorite video game - what is the first game you remember playing - what game made you a gamer? As I said in party chat mine is Horizon Zero Dawn, Donkey Kong 64 and Mass Effect

This was inspired by watching Kyle's recent BG3 stream on his channel, but is for the whole crew: are 'lows' in games necessary for more memorable 'highs', and does that juxtaposition lead to a more enjoyable experience overall? I find that with games, if I'm not lobbing obscenities at the screen at some point then I'm probably not having that much fun. This can be anything from difficulty spikes, obtuse mechanics, or just plain weird design, but I often find that some of my favorite games are ones that I enjoy in spite of what I initially perceive as 'flaws'. The frustrating opening hours of Dark Souls, the story structure of Nier Automata, coming to grips with weapon durability and how it informs the overall game design of BoTW; these are all great examples for me. These are design aspects that gained significance and became 'good' only *after* I'd overcome them, and I often wonder if those experiences would land the same for me if I hadn't initially struggled. Am I crazy? Or do ya'll find yourself connecting MORE with games that you low-key hate for a bit?

Chandler

Baldurs gate and FFXIV in this episode? Is it Sarah's birthday? Ha ha ha Anyway have any of your participated in this pickleball trend? It's got me thinking about trends in general. I wonder what kind of trends we're participating in now that will be completely dead in 5 or 10 years. Any ideas?

Clemens Schwarz

Hi Mr. Bosman and the Maxxers! In game dev we often talk about "finding the fun", especially when designing the core gameplay, but that does not necessarily mean "fun" in the usual sense. What is the weirdest kind of "fun" you enjoy in a game, that might not be fun for anyone else? (English is my second language, so please feel free to correct my wording here.)

Hello minnmax gang. With all the excitement from Baldur's gate 3, I've been watching clips and videos of the game. My favorite is when someone rolls low numbers on them and bad things happen. But in the back of my mind, I just said:why not just reload the save. I do this with every game that had a choice I didn’t like. Life is Strange, Mass Effect, and most telltale games. I always just reloaded a save before that choice. So this is the question I want to give to the crew: do you guys save scum games or you guys keep rolling with the game with a choice you didn’t like? And I’m a coward for playing like this and who’s with me?

RabidLime

Mann Co. Mixers, what's your best worst game? the game you enjoyed in spite of it being terrible. or maybe it was so bad it's good? Sincerely, Zooicide (a PvP of animals breaking out of a zoo that's janky as hell) (for real sincerely, rabidlime)

What’s going on with Rockstar Games and its legacy titles? Last week’s underwhelming announcement of RDR on PS4/NSW makes me think the company has not learned any lessons from the disastrous re-release of GTA Trilogy.

At big family gatherings where there are a lot of people but only a small handful who game, do you still set up the console and play or do you decide to give the games a break?

Bill Jones

As someone who played the original Baldur's Gate game when I was 13, I have distinct memories of being amazed at the scope and breadth of that digital world and the roleplaying possibilities that were enabled by the technology. Now some 24 years laters, I am loving my Baldur's Gate 3 experience, but I feel that fundamentally the gameplay and experience is similar to what I had back in 1999. That brings me to my question, are you excited by the potential of technologies like VR/AR and advanced game AI, or would you prefer game developers keep iterating and refining on existing game genres/technologies?

Josh LaBaw

With Physical Copies going the way of the Dinosaur'. What is that one physical game you will always hold onto?

Hey MinnMax, How do you feel about IGN's new AI guide chatbot? It feels wrong that the hard work of guide writers is being compiled and boiled down to simple bullet point answers that are no longer in their words. Why would a guide writer spend the time to write out a well thought out and enjoyable-to-read guide when they know that no one is going to read their actual words? At this point you are just paying people to input data into a machine.

Malcolm Holliday

Hey Minnmax, I'm just writing in to hear from Kyle more reasons why Digimon is Superior to Pokemon. #DigimonSurviveGOTY2022 #GreymonDumpstersCharizardEverytime #GogglesGang

Ecological impact aside, would you rather get rid of ticks or mosquitos

Hey Crew. What's a movie you've seen weirdly a lot despite not liking it that much? For me it's Law Abiding Citizen starring Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx. I think I've seen this on 5 separate occasions and I don't know why.

Kaizoku Risu

Do you think a D&D-style video game (such as Baldur’s Gate) could still be fun and interesting if it had absolutely no combat or violence at all?

Lamb Dance

Hey MinnMax. I've been going to the Dentist a lot lately cause I stopped going for a while when I became an adult and it has led to consequences for my teeth. What's going to the dentist as an adult like for you?

I’ve been a little burnt out on video games recently. What are your favorite non-gaming hobbies?

disasterlaster

What's a property/piece of media that you are certain you would have made your personality if you encountered it when you were younger that you just have completely aged out of?

Stevelution

Hey MinnMax. I’m going to Australia for the first time next month and I’ve filled about half my time with planned activities. I usually like to box off a good chunk of time to make it up as I go as far as sightseeing and food and drink spots go. How do you like to travel, have you every day booked up to the minute or do you just show up and start exploring?

Justin Ray

I have a bold prediction for Final Fantasy Remake Part 2. The initial game toyed with the concept of multiple timelines, which hints at the existence of other dimensions. I think at the end of part 2 there will be the scene with Aerith, however something will happen to stop it and it will rip a hole in the dimension that leads to other final fantasy games. This sets the stage for an epic, cross-dimensional adventure across the entire Final Fantasy multiverse in part 3. My question is if this comes to fruition what cross final fantasy shenanigans would you like to see in part 3?

Phelix Diaz

Nowadays we are so informed about video game releases, but when do you remember having an overwhelming anticipation for a video game release for the first time? The first one I remember being very aware of, to the point of going to the midnight release, may have been GTAIV.

Hello fellow Minnesotans, for those who are in location or only in spirit! I moved back to Minnesota for work, this time in a more permanent capacity, so I’m writing to ask what I should do here! Any places I should go to, traditions I should partake in, or customs I should learn would be appreciated!

after the Monday Party Chat, "What game made you a gamer?" (AC included :P)

Hi Minnmax, Baldur’s Gate 3 seems to busting the idea among some that turn based RPGs don’t sell. What is another type of game that we don’t see much of anymore that you’d like to see make a comeback?

notweirder

Hey Minnmax folks, have you listened to any good music this year? I want to give a shout out to "Beloved Paradise Jazz" by Mckinley Dixon, a really fantastic jazz-rap album that snuck under my radar. Cheers!

Virgil B

Which characters are the embodiment of the phrase, “Don’t judge a book by its cover?” Whether it be a rough looking character that’s surprisingly sweet or a nice looking character that is despicable, who played with your expectations the most? My pick would be Fawkes from Fallout 3.

Patrick G

To the homeowners, I'm closing on my first house soon. what's something I should know or do first when moving in?

Hi MinnMax crew and bonus friends, Playing Balder's Gate 3 has made me think about the concept of romance in video games. Which game do you feel has the best execution of a romantic relationship or romance mechanic?

CptCobblePot

Greetings Minnmaxers, Would you rather have a fully loaded, digital PS2 but you only have one save file that can be used at a time. Or a fully loaded digital GBA, but you have to scroll alphabetically top to bottom every time it turns on. For host if needed. More context below: The PS2: It can only hold one save, so if you are half way through Kingdom Hearts but want to play Sly 2, your Kingdom Hearts save will be deleted if you start Sly 2. One save slot only for everything. One game at a time type of thing. The GBA: Feel like playing Spyro, you have to scroll all the way to the bottom to find it. According to Wikipedia there are over 1500+ GBA games. It scrolls at a medium speed Argument shutdown: Zero loopholes, no other Ps2s or GBAs in the world. No other consoles. That’s it. This is the only one that exists for you to play. You also have to pick. It’s your destiny.

Hello all, do you have a favorite musical note?

Vincent L.

Hello! Of those answering questions, who best represents each D&D attribute? Each person can only represent one (aka Captain Planet’s Planeteer rules) and Charisma is excluded because you are all on a podcast with many Patreon subscribers. That leaves: -Strength -Constitution -Dexterity -Wisdom -Intelligence

Hello MinnMaxers! After finishing Pikmin 4 I can safely say that the postgame is arguably better than the regular campaign. What are some games with extensive postgames that people shouldn't miss out on?

Vilis

Hail and Well Met Minnventurers! Baldur's Gate 3 has an auspicious numeral in its title, a sequel in name, but unlike spiritual successors to the original two games like Dragon Age, it clearly is impossible for it to have the sort of ambition of Dragon Age which was known for bringing forward old choices. Despite this lack of linkage, and perhaps because of it, BG3 has been incredibly popular due to it harkoning back to the old games with references rather than literal choices. Is the ambition of the, now, old Bioware model trying to maintain a tailored experience lost to gaming history, and is that a good or bad thing in the long run? Was it too ambitious to Maintain outside of the more tightly structured and cast Mass Effect series? Mass Effect's sequel Andromeda was never given a chance to grow and show it's potential. Even the TellTale Walking Dead whose whole purpose was this continuity in storytelling lost steam as it went on. Are y'all happy leaving the "Chuck will remember this..." style mechanics in the past if it means better fully realized and self-contained choice based narrative like Disco Elysium and Baldur's Gate 3?

tbeeks15

Hey there Minn Maxers! What do you think is the smallest decision made during a game’s development that has had the biggest impact on a game’s success?

SpiralInYourEyes

Am I the only one who actually enjoys framerate drops? Ever since I played Banjo Tooie as a kid, I’ve always associated low framerate with the feeling “Wow, this world is so huge the console can barely handle it! Awesome!” It’s never bothered me at all, but it seems like almost a dealbreaker for everyone else… is anyone with me on this?

Sam Kennedy

If you were a D&D character, what class and/or race would you be?

Thom Blackburn

if you had one annoying argument that could be permanently solved by simulating it in a game, what would it be? Thanks! Thom Blackburn

Hello, Riddle me this! Your memories of this adventure may not flood back, but our time in the sun was a blast! (Super Mario Sunshine) We hang on by a thread, it separates us from life. (Death Stranding) You said it was a lie, you can’t have your cake and eat it too. (Portal) This is a video game riddle, (the reader must now read it) can you solve it. (The Stanley Parable) From machines and software, this will be the ember that ignites the planet. (Armor Core VI Fires of Rubicon) Thanks. Christian J.

What’s the best funny response for when someone asks, “what time is it?”

Ari

Dear Minnmax, I don’t have enough shelf space for all the cases for my video games. Should I put the boxes in storage and put all my games in a large CD binder? Do any of you have this problem? Having a cramped room with lots of things sometimes can make me feel a little overwhelmed. Ari

Keegan

The dragonborn dong makes me laugh.

HelloAndre!

You’re playing a split screen video game against your friend. They look at your screen and realize you are right behind them so they jump out of the way. “Stop looking at my screen!” Have we as a gaming society ever came up with a name for that? If so, what was it. Screen cheating? Screen looking? Help meeee?

Michael Berry

I absolutely ADORE the first Tomb Raider on the PS1. I am still in awe of the huge 3D enviroments to explore. And that soundtrack is so emotional. In 1996, it was mind blowing. Today, however; I wonder what new comers would think. Under a modern lens, would gamers be willing to learn the unusual grid based movement? The movement is very serviceable (especially at the time) but not intuitive. Which beloved title of yours, do you think would fare the worse under modern scrutiny? P.S. I still think Tomb Raider 1 should be played by everyone, but I could understand how new players might be turned off by its mechanics.

Bob Buel

I bring to you a 2 part question in honor of the Pokémon Direct. 1. Who is your favorite Pokémon? And 2. what design change would you make to it to make it worse?

Derek Achoy

What's a username you used on the internet in your younger days, but don't anymore?

CaffeineDad

what's your weird food thing? i hate touching my food and use a fork and knife for like 99% of foods (burgers, pizza, nachos).

Blazingscourge

How do you play competitive games with people who are less skilled than you? I feel bad when playing Mario Kart against my niece and constantly get first but she knows when I’m not putting full effort in a race to let her win.

jkk411

Baldur's Gate 3 seems like it may in fact be the apotheosis of the CRPG genre. As you all well know, the apotheosis is the highest point in the development of something or the culmination or climax. With that being said, what do you think is the "highest point" in a video game ever? As in, geographically? Is it the top of the tallest mountain in Skyrim? Maybe it's on a planet in No Man's Sky nobody has ever landed on?

Starkiller

If you could have one skill or ability from Baldur's Gate 3 / D&D, what would it be? Would it be a stat buff, like athletics proficiency or persuasion? Or something more fun, like feather fall or speak with animals?

Shimmy Neutron

FGC, FGC, oh how I love the FGC. Ello mates, did you watch the jawsome fighting game pinnacle that is Evo this year? We're you aware it even happened? No matter your answers my spirits shan't be dampened. It was amazing, emotional, and transcending. Google some photos of the event. The crowds, the popoffs, the announcements, the matches themselves! We have an OFFICIAL EVO Day in Las Vegas now and the founders of Evo were given the key to the city! It's official. Our community is a force, and it's time you all gave it another look. 10 dollars to 10 doughnuts, I bet there's a fighting game for each of you. Give it a shot, and to all my fellow fgc members, Sure you can!

This week, Baldur's Gate 3 entered the top 10 for all-time peak concurrent players on Steam. It knocked Apex Legends off the list and currently sits at number 9. Just below it, at number 10, is Goose Goose Duck - a game developed in North America and released in 2021. Can any of our gaming experts tell me what this mega-hit Goose Goose Duck is?

Greg

Okay, I know I might be the only one affected by this here, but I just wanted to tell you that I was completely blown away when my small hometown in Italy appeared during last week's 'New Show Plus.' Watching Janet, Leo, and Jeffm talk about Sarzana and struggling to locate it on the map was an incredibly strange and amazing experience. What's the weirdest random coincidence that you've experienced that has blown you away?

Jared Piers

Did you have any weird local rumors when growing up? There was a wall at the school that I went to that had a large hole in it that kids said was haunted by a ghost with scissors for hands. Anything like that?

Patrick Hughes

Ahoy BosMax and MinnMan! Cake or pie?

CANAS1AN

Hey MinnMaxers, I just wanted to shout out Kyle B. and Erik S. Two weeks ago, Eric taught Kyle (and us) the word "Apotheosis" then last week Kyle used it to great effect. Hooray for learning new words! Love the show
