Hello all, When taking control of enemy characters do you prefer fighting alongside the AI or become the character you are controlling? Thanks!

Kraven Morcome

Hey MinnMax, How long could you balance on one leg?

Victor Pham

Why do people hate icons on an open world map so much?

Catpurrnicus

Hey Ben and crew, recently Star Trek: Strange New Worlds had a musical episode, what are your thoughts when a show adds a musical episode? Also, can we expect MinnMax to do a musical episode? If you're on the fence, Leo Vader has the same amount of syllables as Amadeus. It basically writes itself. Also, after performing a musical episode, MinnMax on Ice would be the next theme you could conquer.

Travis in Fargo

Do you bet the 1997 hit movie Flubber has aged well? I doubt it, and I don’t think anyone has seen it in over 20 years. Thanks!

Johnny M

Hey everyone, and welcome back Ben! Question for Hanson - I've been watching some old super replays and in the Yoshi's Island one you repeatedly state that Loveline is the greatest piece of media of all time. Do you think anything since has surpassed it?

ProcyonNumber6

Hey Benn and Friennds, How hard do you think the first person who heard the “do you want some fries with your ketchup” type of joke laughed?

Travis in Fargo

What’s your favorite video game soundtrack? Silver Surfer for NES has incredible music, and it’s much better than the game deserves.

Catpurrnicus

This is for Jeff M and doesn't need to be on the show, but I know he's a Mahjong fan and has trouble finding an accurate representation, check out kemono mahjong. I have it on Android, I'm assuming it's on iOS too. It's made by CyberDog Software and it's great.

Thom Blackburn

Hi cohorts, Are we at a point where games are just another storytelling medium like movies and books? Could someone could play games JUST for stories and be satisfied? Thanks!

Good day to you all! Whenever you're consuming your favorite form of art or entertainment, do you ever feel like you know "too much"? Lately, I've been finding myself unable to fully focus on games that I'm playing or movies that I'm watching because I can 'see behind the curtain', so to speak. I've been following video games and the industry since I was a kid reading about their development in magazines and eventually listening about a game's progress every step of the way from podcasts as such. It's something that I've always enjoyed doing, but admittedly it's hard to not notice mechanics that another game did better or think about something controversial outside of the scope of the game itself (like in the case of Hogwarts Legacy). Seeing as you all are deeply ingrained in the industry and follow games to a much deeper degree than I do, is this something that you experience? And if so, how do you overcome it and learn to just be in the moment and ignore that you know "too much"? Thank you, all! And I always look forward to listening every week.

DangerZone

Hey y’all, Recently Magic The Gathering announced they will be making Fallout and Assassin’s Creed cards that will be playable in some formats. As magic is my second (some times first) hobby just behind gaming. I was wondering if you guys had your hobbies ever crossover. And does it work for you, if they do? For me, im excited about the AC magic cards, but not the Fallout ones. Thanks and have a great week! -Jacob

What are your thoughts on the recent Starfield leaks and could you also recall one of the most significant leaks, excluding the recent GTA 6 situation? - Ahmad The Duke

Good pizza is good, but bad pizza is also pretty good.

Hey Crew! With all these wonderful, long games out, I find myself hesitant to start any because I'm afraid I don't have enough time right now to fully experience them. I'm craving more shorter experiences that I know I can finish. What would you say is your perfect game length?

Cody Allison

Hey there minnmax, I keep hearing sea of stars referred to as a love letter to classic 90s RPGs. What are your other favorite throw backs to games from long ago? For me, Shovel knight is a 10/10 masterpiece and the developers, yacht club, are truly gifted in capturing the appeal of older games but making sure they are fun and up to today's standards

RabidLime

HI THERE, so, crummy news just hit; Mimimi, the developers behind Desperados 3, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, and the recently released Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew, (all excellent) is closing due to the industry "taking a heavy toll on the developers and their families." this news sucks butt, especially as Commandos was one of my first PC games and seeing a studio revive the genre so well was fantastic. but also is another example of the toll that game dev takes. in the bigger picture, where do you think we, as customers, sit in all this? are people's demands too high? are subscription services like Game Pass (which I find awesome, btw) not getting studios the numbers and money they need to keep going? or is this just par for the course in capitalism? what are your thoughts? don't mean to be a bummer, RabidLime

Welcome back Jenna! One of the things I loved about Fallout 4 was its scavenging gameplay loop. You would go out and explore destroyed buildings, dig though it’s scraps, find a fan and use it’s screws to upgrade your guns/armour/base etc. Never have I been more excited in a game to find something so mundane as duct tape or some glue! Does Starfield have a similar satisfying gameplay loop? What are some other games with simple gameplay loops that yourselves have loved? Yowie Wowie! Evan.

Ryan Young

Hi Minnmax! A lot has been made of the ambitious scale of starfield, with a promised 1000 +planets to explore. Even taking into account the use of random generation, and the do you feel like there is a tangible benefit to achieving a scale like this? Would the exploration aspect be diminished if Bethesda were to scale down the size of their universe? Appreciate y’all - thanks for providing great commute entertainment!

What date would you pick to be your birthday, if you could choose?

What is one of your favorite things but you rarely get to experience it?

Duderado

Hey crew, Over the past couple years starting with Elden Ring and most recently Baldur's Gate 3, I find myself muttering "this is amazing" out loud while something incredible happens in-game. I never used to do this. Are we in the best era of video games ever or are big budgets creating spectacles we haven't seen before?

Derek Achoy

Do you text the way you talk? What I mean is, does your conversational writing style match the way you'd chat with people in person? I've known some people who are very warm in person but awkwardly formal in writing. Or others who seem to switch to totally different vocabularies, use unexpected quantities of emoji, etc. etc. It's interesting!

NoWarpZones

What is something from the last 6 months that you are proud of?

Alex Britt

If you could take all of your skill points from one of your real life skills/abilities and dump it into another, what would you pick?

LlorchDurden

is it just me not getting the hype with Starfield? isn't it No Man's Sky again? Bethesda's NMS if you will? It feels like when Valorant released and everyone forgot about CSGO. It's going to be a cool game but anytime I hear "wow you see that in the sky? you can go there!" I'm like yup, and let me tell you as soon as I unlock fast travel I'll use it. Idk but I need to see more. All good cause it's on Gamepass but this might be one of hypetrains I've been the most disconnected to ever

Prodigal Horse

Did Roger Ebert have terrible taste in movies? Non-American here so never grew up with Ebert. A lot of film fans always seem to go back to how great Ebert was and revere his views. But whenever he’s mentioned it’s in relation to great movies that he claimed were trash: The Thing, Beetlejuice, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Die Hard, The Jerk, Clue, Batman (1989) and numerous more. He hated them all. Yet he loved Cars 2, Congo, Anaconda and Garfield(?!). Is it time for this sacred cow to be trucked to the slaughterhouse? Did Ebert have trash taste in movies?

Clayton Dexter

Has there been any game you’ve played that impacted the way you view the medium or games criticism? Specifically thinking of something that redefined or recontextualized a genre, style of game, or something else not considered before playing the game.

Clayton Myers

Hello Minnmax! At the beginning of August, my wife and I did something we’ve always wanted to do, moved to Duluth, Minnesota! Since moving we have attended the state fair and eaten a juicy lucy, but we would love to know what your recommendations are for getting the most out of life in Minnesota. Thanks!

Palo

Anyone playing 'The Making of Karateka'? It's really cool seeing Digital Eclipse jump deeper into these historical artifact projects, isn't it? If you could aim their sights at an important game of your youth for a deep dive into dev materials, where would you point them?

MarriottPlayer

Hi MM, Ben, on the last Party Chat, you said Men In Black might be a perfect movie. Well I’m here to tell you you’re right, it IS a perfect movie! What video game(s) do you all think might be perfect? Best,

Stark

What defunct publications do you think had the biggest influence on modern games media?

SlyCut

Hello all, Years ago, when the game Destiny was a couple of months old, I was playing solo because none of my normal crew was on. After a while, one of them got on and joined my party. This was someone I didn't really know in real life; friend of a friend of a friend. Anyway, he joined and we started playing. After a few minutes, he said, "My dad died." Remember, I know nothing about him or his family. I said, "What? When?" He said, "Around eight o'clock." I said, "Wait, like thirty-minutes-ago eight o'clock?" He said, "Yeah. I just got home from the hospital." I said, "Oh... I'm sorry. Do you want to talk about it?" He said, "No, I want to just play and think about something else." I said, "Sure, no problem." And we played as we normally did. Later, when we were about to sign off, he thanked me for just being there to help him take his mind off of things. I'm glad I helped him, even though I didn't really do anything. But it was unbelievably awkward when he dropped that bomb with no warning. I really didn't know what to say. My question is, what is the most awkward conversation that you were a part of while gaming online?

Abe

Hi MinnMax! Hearing about Haley’s white whale beverage last week truly astounded me. What are some of your *gaming* white whales. Could be a certain achievement, a game that may never gets released/ported, etc…

Victor Garcia

Hi, everyone. In the past 2 months I've played 2 different games that I have mixed feelings about but for different reasons. Final Fantasy 16 had a lot of peaks and valleys. Really good moments followed by really boring segments. Ghost of Tsushima on the other hand, which I will admit I still have not finished, is just in the middle. I wouldn't consider it to be great, but I also wouldn't say it's bad. Which type of game would you rather play? A game that will have moments that you love but just as many that you don't like, or a game where you just don't feel anything for it?

Jared Piers

Hey gamers, Whats the saddest song you've ever heard?

mbc

Hey guys! A Starfield clip was posted on Twitter (is anyone going to actually start calling it ‘X’?) in which the player fails to get away with stealing something, the camera swivels 90 degrees, and a guard runs in a straight line toward the camera, robotically delivering a line about the player being in trouble for stealing etc, with Oblivion-esque ambient music dissonantly underscoring the scene. This inspired a lot of discourse, some positive and some negative, about Bethesda’s signature style and how it really hasn’t changed all that much. Do you guys view Bethesda’s particular brand of “just-the-right-amount-of-jank-to-be-charming” as a selling point or a drawback?

Beau Bakken

Hello Minnmax crew. Last week when Kyle was discussing ninja turtle action figures, I had a weird smell memory moment. I'm 42 and haven't played with them for 35ish years, but while listening I called back the exact smell of rubber or plastic or something from moving those little arms and legs. Any similar recent smell memory moments from the crew that go way back?

thejjuan1

Questions to Janet.Since you haven’t been on content for a while. What happened with the Starfield deal between Gary Whitta and Greg Miller? When it comes to the fantasy game?

Luca Alberti

Hello crew, last week I went bowling with some friends and a friend of a friend casually dropped in the conversation they were working on a DnD campaign based on Metroid. My jaw dropped and my new objective is helping them finish it and localizing it for more people to enjoy. What are some of your favourite pieces of fan media based on videogames? Honorable mention to Rhythm Heaven Reanimated.

Jimmothy

What's your "Coolest Game of the Year" so far? I'm prompted this question on behalf of Armored Core 6 because it offers high impact laser rifles, zero to sixty boosting, and a bouquet of missiles. I feel like a cool mech fighting cool mechs.

PoorAndCurly

Hey Minnmax! Is the new standard of $70 for new releases really justified? I get that development costs have gone up, but some of my favorite recent games as well as my most anticipated remain at 60; Resident Evil 4, Armored Core 6, and Alan Wake 2.

Tokyo Game Life

Hi MinnMax, I started playing a used copy of the Japan only sequel to Pokémon TCG on my Analogue Pocket. You can only have one save file, so I had to delete the existing save for my own. I want to give a shout out to the previous owner: Ayaka, who played for 13 hours, unlocked 184 cards, and earned five event coins. I hope this achievement echoes in eternity. Have you ever felt bad about deleting an existing save?

SlickJames

Hey Minnmax, what's your favorite robot? This can include games, cartoons, anime or comics. Also, did you design your Armored Core robot to reflect your favorite? Mine has to be Optimus Prime. His design is timeless and Peter Cullen has the coolest voice ever.

Malcolm Holliday

Hey MinnMax, do y'all have any interesting morning and/or night rituals?

CptCobblePot

Greetings Minnmaxers, Regardless of the work itself, what job would you take so you could always get free products? I work for a skincare company and get a monthly stipend of free products. Ideally I would choose something food related, like Cheez-Itz. (In this scenario you get anything free)

Michael Berry

Why doesn't Jumping Flash get more love? Super Mario 64 is rightfully seen as a timeless classic, yet Jumping Flash, a first person, 3D platformer where you can triple jump that was released all the way back in 1995 (almost a whole year before Mario 64) gets hardly any discussion. It is weird, experimental PS1 goodness and I think we should give it it's due.

beebat

Hi Minns and Maxxes, why is red the universal sign for bad/stop and green the sign for good/go?

Patrick Hughes

Ahoy Minn to the Max. I was thinking back to the 3DS and what pure joy I would get from just pulling the system out of my pocket and seeing a little green light on the system (indicating a Streetpass for those who don't know). What are some of your simplest, but most satisfying moments of bliss with gaming hardware?

Juz10

Hi MinnMax. Sometimes I forget that 3rd parties have been releasing Cloud versions of a few of their most popular games onto the Nintendo Switch. The games selection available is pretty impressive. There are titles like Hitman 3, Control, The Medium, Kingdom Hearts 3, Guardians of the Galaxy or Resident Evil 2,3,7,8. You could be playing these games while pooping on a toilet right now! Have you or anyone you know played any of these cloud version games? I only own a Switch plus a lower end PC so I wouldn't really have any other way to play some of these games. Do you think I should play them via the cloud?

notweirder

Hey Minnmax, sorry to ruin your immersion, but what’s your favourite invisible loading screen? Are you into the classic “squeeze through a tight space”, or are you a fan of more contemporary styles seen in games such as Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart?

Karim

Hello Ben and his computer loving cohorts - I'm a long time listener, new to patreon! Has the panel ever felt exhausted at the mere thought of playing a game? This could be due to game length (1000 planets on Starfield!), difficulty or genre? In my case, I started Armoured Core 6, got to the tutorial boss, got my ass kicked 5 times and had to take a (potentially long) break from the game. With only an hour to play on average in the evenings, I just couldn't keep up with the learning curve despite getting platinum on all From souls games. I heard Jacob Geller calling everyone a coward on the AC Deepest Dive as well so maybe some people can relate! P.S. Congratulations on becoming a father! I've been listening to the podcast since lockdown and went back to older episodes recently and its great to see how far you've come with Minnmax :D

Graham Jones

Hello cohorts! I recently listened to one of the first Minn max show episodes and Ben briefly brought up the possibility of giving game ratings. I wanted to propose a rating scale that stays true to the MinnMax montra... It will go from -2 to +2 Ns in honor of the MinnMax spelling... -2 Ns : unplayable -1 Ns : poor 0 Ns : fair 1 N: good 2 Ns: excellent/masterpiece What do you all say to giving this a trial run... How many Ns would you give to what you have played of Starfield so far? Thanks for the great content!

Jason Wojnar

Don't know if I am too late, but wanted to shout out Ukrainian independence day, which was August 24th. On this day, I played a boat show in front of around 500 people, playing classic Ukrainian songs from the 60s and 70s. The rest ofy band doesn't speak Ukrainian however, so they had no one to talk to for the whole night. Can you recall a time when you were the odd person out who only spoke English while everyone else was speaking another language?

Hello Best Gamerz! Have you ever had a gaming centric sibling rivalry, with heated interactions that were mostly retaliatory? My brother and I would clash many times over games, so it made me wonder if others did as well. I'm not sure who struck first, but our interactions included, but were not limited to: -I opened the PS1 disc tray as my brother was saving his game in Breath of Fire 3, and it corrupted the save. -My brother had my disc for Omega Boost (ps1) in his pocket for whatever reason, sat down and broke it. -I threw his Breath of Fire 3 strategy guide into the ceiling fan, and it pretty much exploded - sending pages flying everywhere. -My brother deleted my save files for several games from my PS1 memory card. Chrono Cross, Legend of Dragoon, Vagrant Story, and more saves were all lost. -The coup de grace: I got our mom to stealth pre-order Final Fantasy VIII for me on her way home from work one day, knowing full well that Final Fantasy VII was my brother's favorite game of all time. I then made a contract that he had to sign and was beholden to, in order to play the game. This last one has been an ongoing inside joke within our family for decades now, and I have the contact somewhere - but cant seem to locate it. Anyways, let's hear those Sibling rivalry gaming related battles!

Dani “Little Milk” Brook

Dear Minnamax crew: Where do you guys rank the following three tie in video game space themed songs by artists you wouldn’t associate with games let alone this one: Hope for the Future (A Destiny song) - Paul McCartney Celestial (A Pokemon Scarlet/Violet song) - Ed Sheeran Children of the Sky (A Starfield Song) - Imagine Dragons
