What’s the biggest blunder you’ve had at work?

On a train to Boston a couple of days ago I heard two people speaking Ukrainian. I started speaking in their language and we spent the entire 5 hour train ride talking. We then coordinated our trips home to hang out on the train back. Do you ever have such pleasant interactions with complete strangers? What is the thing that connects you to people you never met before?

thejjuan1

Hi Minnmax crew. With the recent announcement of the Paper Mario TYYD remake, making many people's dreams come true. Reactions were wild lol What is your dream game? The game you want an announcement on. A remake/new game of a franchise you love to see in a direct/showcas/game awards. Something that will make you scream or cry. Or both. P.S. Max dood on FF7 rebirth deepest dive?

MechaPig

With Pinocchio soulsllike Lies of P out and getting such a positive reception, I'm curious, what is a game of other piece of media that based on it's premise, you were surprised hit the mark?

Kraven Morcome

Hey MinnMax, This week is employee appreciation week at my office and bless their hearts they are trying. Today was "dress up as your favorite family game" with examples like dominoes, uno, or pacman. What? Needless to say I didn't see anyone dressed up. What is the best/worst perks you've gotten as part of employee appreciation?

Mike Lynch

Gamers say "a book couldn't do this" about a unique video game mechanic. Have you ever rage quit a book?

WeGoGiant

Inspired by Dani Phantom in the MinnMax discord where they used the phrase "fudge dudes" and then needed to clarify they weren't talking about some video game named Fudge Dudes. Consider this a test of your improv skills. I'd love the cohorts to take turns coming up with a two word phrase that would make the strangest video game title of all time, then the next cohort in line has to describe what that game would be! Give us a genre, platform, price point, and any funny details you can think up. Then it's that cohort's turn to come up with the next two word title. Once everyone has had a chance to make one title and one description, which one was funniest and which one would you genuinely be excited to play (could be a good excuse to plug the game jam)! Thanks Dani Phantom and MinnMax, Sean Rubin

Hey folks! With the new Xbox leaks, we have a new shape entering the console wars: The Cylinder. We've seen the GameCUBE, a Monolith with the Series X, and the deep V from the PS5 What should be the hottest shape innovation from the console wars?

Limp Bizquick

Howdy gang! With the poor reception of Megan Fox in Mortal Kombat and Idris Elba in Cyberpunk just around the corner, where do you guys stand on movie/tv actors in video games? Is it just a marketing gimmick or the future of games?

Shakenbake67

Hey Minnmaxers, With the huge Xbox leak and as plugged into the industry as you all are. Do you get bummed out a bit when you read thru the leaks. For example, there will be no surprises for Bethesdas lineup for the next decade and that just makes Xbox less interesting when it comes to their brand because I’ll be less surprised for the next decade. What do you all think?

Gooseberry

Hello! Goose from Portland here. The American record for the men’s mile was broken last weekend (16 year old record!). Whats one task/trick you think you could successfully do in 3 minutes 43 seconds?

Catpurrnicus

Hey Crew, I had Jury Duty for the first time this week. When I would tell folks at work that I may be out for a few days for Jury Duty most had the same response. "Oh know, jury duty is terrible". When I asked if they had been summoned for Jury Duty, most had not. Have you been summoned for jury duty? How'd it go? If not, do you have preconceived notions on the experience? Does it give you a lot of confidence in our judicial system that most folks don't want to be there? Here's how my experience went: Monday 9:30 Show up at the court house 9:45 Check in complete 10:00 completed short video on the importance of jury duty 10:40 get released for lunch until 12:30 12:30 return from lunch 12:50 Released for the day and told to come back tomorrow at 8:30 Tuesday 8:30 Show up at court house 9:50 Judge came out and trial has been moved to November and our commitment is complete Overall experience was fine, I played Sonic Frontiers on my Switch for a good amount of time.

The 30th Anniversary of Mortal Kombat and the release of MK1 has me thinking about days of yore, in the arcades of the 1990’s. Do you have any fond arcade memories, either “vintage” or modern?

Victor Pham

Should there be a gore filter for Mortal Kombat?

Victor Garcia

Hi, everyone. I know it's still a little early for this type of question but what is the most underrated Halloween candy and why is it candy corn/candy pumpkin?

Cath

What is a video game quote that punch your gut? And from which game ? I have several but here the first three that came to my mind - Does this unit have a soul (Legion from mass effect 3) - Life’s a journey. It ain’t pass or fail (Kapp’n , Anima crossing ) - You don’t have to be perfect for people to care about you (Chicory, Chicory)

Otsego12

Hey, Minnfolk, what’s your favorite video game motorcycle and why? Mine has to be either the Kusangi from Cyberpunk or the GTA online Shotaro (Tron bike). Both have iconic looks, but the feel of driving in Cyberpunk wins out for me.

CptCobblePot

Hey Minnmax, How protective are you with your gaming gear/equipment? My buddy came over the other day and was eating greasy chips while playing my PS5. That controller had an immediate isopropyl wipe down upon his leaving. I was a jerk about it, but I had a hard time. I can’t stand anyone using my dedicated controllers, so they always use they now use the greasier “guest” controller. Do you have any preferences for gear cleanliness?

Micah Tillman

Howdy Horts! When I was young, I moved from Florida to Delaware and discovered that I pronounced everything wrong. It hurt my feelings, but I've been interested in accents ever since. So, could I get all the *Minnesotans* on the pod to say the following fake video game titles? "The Staggering Stegosaurus" "Meg's Mag: A Regular Rag" "James Cagney's Keg Knee: A Laggy Leggy Legend" I have no idea what these games would be about, but I would only allow Minnesotans to do voice over for them. -Micah ("Mike - uh")

Hello all, Would you take the ability to snap the best version of french toast, waffles, and/or pancakes into existence whenever you want for the rest of your life or would you take $25,000 in cash?

Jeremy Banks

Hi all, my question is around...time. How do you make time for your hobbies as you get older and gain more responsibilities? When I was in high school and early college, I was able to play through almost every game from that year I wanted to (barring money). Now I'm only in my mid-twenties, but after work/maintaining my house/cooking/etc, I find I barely have time to actually play the games I want to at the end of a day. I'm already dreading FF7 Rebirth's release, because I'm only a third of the way through Zelda and haven't even started FF 16... Essentially my question is: How do you all manage your time in such a way to prioritize putting significant time into the new games of the year, while still fitting in your everyday responsibilities? Any tips/recommendations that work for you all..? Thanks, JayPB08

Pablo Castillo

Shout out to Kyle and his After Party recommendation. Its a really good show!

Lamb Dance

Hey gang - I know it's not for everyone, but I was glad to see Trombone Champ get some attention again after being ported to Switch. I feel like a game still deserves appreciation for being straight up funny even if nothing special from a game design perspective. So, what are some of your favorite "joke" games - games you wouldn't give a high overall grade to, but really made you laugh?

BEEFCAKE

What’s the best way to learn a new skill from your experience?

Jordan Doggett

Recently while playing Resident Evil Zero I noticed that on the save file screen their is a copy of the New York Times in the background. This made me think of any other cases where real life media or news outlets were featured in a game. I couldn't think of any. Do any of you know of any others?

SuperThisWay

On the last episode, Haley mentioned about how Bethesda releases have been chapters in her life. I have the same feeling with Zelda where I associate every release with a huge moment of my life. Case in point, my wife and I are expecting our first kid so this is the Tears of the Kingdom chapter for me (and my wife)! Does anyone else have that weird connection with an IP or franchise especially the chapter part?

Stoopkid90

Hi Minnmax! Growing up I always had a glass of milk (or chocolate milk) with dinner. One night my wife and I sat down for dinner and I made a glass of chocolate milk to go with dinner and she looked at me like I was some sort of monster for pairing pasta and chocolate milk. Did anyone else grow up drinking milk with dinner regardless of what the dinner food was or am I just a weirdo?!? Please help us settle this discussion!

Luis Pérez

Hiya crew! I think it's safe to say that 2023 is shaping up to be one of the greatest years in recent memory when it comes to the number of amazing releases. That said, it'll also lead to a damn big backlog come 2024. I understand it's hard to keep up with releases when you're part of games media, so the big questions are: What are your tactics for catching up with games that you left behind? Do you have any rules regarding backlog busting? All the best!

Burt Stanton

Is a game really your favorite of all time even if you feel like you never need to play it again? My game is Final Fantasy 6 and I feel like I've replayed it so many times in my life that I've gotten everything I can from it yet if someone asks me my #1 game it's always the 1st thing that comes go mind so do I actually believe that's the best game I've ever played or am I just naming the game I have the most nostalgia for since games meant more to me in my youth.

TheLastArcher

Dear MinnMax & Co. I hope this Patreon post finds you well. I am posting in regards to my question of the week. What kind of audio set up do you all use for gaming? What are some of your favorite/recommended brands for headsets or audio equipment?

Thom Blackburn

Prince of Persia returning to 2d, Mario wonder doing the same; what 3d game series would you like to see take a crack at becoming 2d again?

Rikimaru

Hello! I have been thinking about my "Seasonal Gaming" habits. Not season passes or live service games, but deciding what to play and when. There are some game series that I associate or want to play during certain times of the year. However, some games cover many holidays or seasons. Whether they were released around that time or their themes evoke that time of year, which season do each of you associate with the following game series? Crash Bandicoot - Summer or Winter (Holiday)? Dark Souls - Halloween or Winter (Holiday)? Dead Island - Summer or Halloween? Psychonauts - Summer or Halloween? The Legend of Zelda - Spring or Summer? Wolfenstein - Halloween or Winter (Holiday)? Wild cards: Animal Crossing Final Fantasy God of War Grand Theft Auto Persona Pokemon Resident Evil Spider-Man Super Mario Bros. Uncharted

I’m 36 and I’ve been an avid home cook my entire adult life, but only recently have I perfected cooking fried eggs. After thousands of eggs over two decades, they finally come out perfect every time. What’s something you’ve mastered recently, or took a long time to perfect?

You’ve been hired by Big Games Inc. to take an existing open world, MMORPG, puzzle, or other game genre of your choice, and create a tight 10-12 hour single player game. What game or franchise do you choose, and what kind of game do you make?

Kevin Kuper

Hello Minnmax crew! What makes a sequel different enough to justify it for you? God of War and Horizon's sequels received some criticism for being to much of the same while Tears of the Kingdom was regarded as a "proper" sequel that was innovative. For the crew what is enough change to justify a sequel for you? Just continuing the story? A new map? Changes in combat/abilities? Thanks!

Jason Wojnar

What's the first time you realized you were playing a bad game or actively disliked a game you were playing? I remember receiving Top Gear Daredevil, a budget PS2 racing game featuring exclusively mini coopers, for Christmas and after the end of the first play session understanding that I'll probably never play that again.

Matthew Byerwalter

What are your favorite past or present gaming traditions? Back when I was in college I used to play through Portal in the period after finals but before coming home for break when I had 0 responsibilities.

Hey Ben and MinnMax crew, You’ve been hired as a consultant to a AAA developer. Your job - design the perfect side quest. What’s the secret sauce that elevates an ordinary side quest to something truly unforgettable?

Do y’all have any road trip games? My wife and I play one where I name a movie, she names an actor in that movie, then I have to name another movie that actor is in, and so on. We play until someone stumps the other.

Back in 2020 my partner's parents got us an enormous bean bag chair, like one you'd find in a mid-2000's dorm room. Aside from just being impossibly bad for my back (I'm nearly 40), we have no room for this thing in our very small home. Additionally, it is bright purple and green with a psychedelic mandala and weed leaf design that really clashes with every aesthetic sensibility I value. It is truly ugly and an art sin. Humorously, it's not like my in-laws are cannabis cool boomers. They are completely unaware of the design's drug related connotations whatsoever. Now, I'm not ungrateful. They gave it to us during peak scary covid times and I think they got suckered by a Facebook ad. I just think it's intensely ugly and it's as big as a room of our house. When is it appropriate to gratefully part ways with the queen bed sized, 420 friendly bean bag chair? My partner says, "Never. It was a gift from my parents and they will notice if it's gone." Now, I'm sympathetic to her guilt but what do you all think? Is this forever "furniture" or can it go back to Facebook marketplace from whence it came?

Joe Dean

I was so excited at the announcement of Another Code Recollection. Nothing else from this week or last week compares. It's like it was specifically made for me. What was the last niche announcement that got you really excited?

Derek Achoy

If the title of a video game is its First Name, a subtitle is kind of like its Last Name, isn't it? If you had to take a a video game subtitle as your last name, what would it be? I would be Derek Stranger of Paradise

Funky Duck

What's something mundane that you make a competition out of? For instance, when a password is about to expire in my authenticator app I race to enter it rather than waiting for it to refresh with a new one.

RickyWinterborn

Sup gamers, what serious live action movie would you want to see as a video game? I was thinking that Brokeback Mountain could be an epic cinematic walking sim. Basically Life is Strange style conversations and character development with Red Dead 2 environment graphics, peaceful horseback riding and sheep wrangling mini games.

RabidLime

Maxers, what "kids" movie left an indelible scar on you? i know i'm not the only who still tears up rendomly when thinking about Artax in the Swamp of Sadness. also, JeffM, you hosted a Party Chat while Daddy Hanson was on babycation, and asked for good arcade racers akin to Outrun. just look up Slipstream, my dude. rl

Talyn

Missed joke opportunity: In 2020, episode 3 of the Deepest Dive for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, you guys were talking about the Elegor fight and Ben said he hope Elegor goes to hell. You said have said hell-agor. Also, we’ve seen a trend recently with developers known for their open world exploration release new games with extremely limited/ pointless exploration. Starfield has no point to explore. Final Fantasy 16 also had no reason to explore. Is this an overreaction to the open world fatigue in the last few years? Do you think the lackluster performance of these games will bring back more focus on exploration in future titles?

Spencer

What are some ways you have come up with to make playing games with friends more interesting? One of the most unique things I've done is to play an FPS on a gamepad with another person, but each of us had one hand on the controller to control the same player. With two people that know how to play it is surprisingly effective and an interesting way to see how drift compatible you and a friend are. We played online this way and against two more friends in a 1v1 split-screen game.

DarthBane79

Hello Minnmaxers!! My question is, if internal conversations between Minnmax cohorts leaked, how big of a mess would that cause?? Would it be so damaging for the company that Ben would end up having to go work for Kinda Funny?? Very curious to hear your answer..

Vilis

Welcome from the Sword Coast in Faerûn, MinnMax. I just spent the week of time off knees deep in Baldurs Gate 3 on PS5 and I honestly am not sure if I'll play anything else for the rest of the year. As an avid Dungeons & Dragons lore nerd, the deep cuts they make are absolutely astounding and the fidelity to the lore is fantastic. I can make at least 6 characters to play through the game with and have utterly unique experiences. What is the last game you've realized, if you didn't have to play all the games as a job, you would have not played anything else?? ANYTHING!! It would consume your gaming life, if not your very soul! Or has there never been such a game?

Christian Jimenez

Which of Ben’s weird quirks will his baby inherit?

Jared Piers

Hey Minnmax, Is there a moment in your life where you couldve made a disastrous decision but avoided it? Im talking about decisions that would have ruined your life as you know it now.

Tokyo Game Life

Every time a baby is born, they have a good chance of claiming the title of “smallest person in the world.” Thoughts?

You are sitting at a bus stop and a man who looks just like Hideo Kojima sits down next to you. He sits there for a few minutes and receives a phone call. He then gets up and walks away. He has left an unmarked package behind on the bench. What do you do?

Luca Alberti

Hello MinnMax crew! Has anyone checked F-Zero 99 yet? It's honestly one of the best "one more game" titles I've played recently. I think this will bring in far more people than a 60$ new game would have, which leads to the question: what are some of the best revivals of dormant IPs in the gaming industry for you?

brynmaur

Is there any video game title more baffling than Lies of P? Other than Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie, I don't think anything else comes close.

Cody Allison

What one dish would you prepare if you were surprise-dropped into a high stakes cooking competition? Any ingredients/recipe/tools are available. The only consideration is you're competing against professional chefs. What dish gives you your best shot at winning?

Catpurrnicus

Recently there's been some talk about the scaled back version of Mortal Kombat 1 on Switch. I'm always impressed with Netherrealm getting there games running at 60 FPS on lower powered consoles, they also had Injustice running on PS Vita. Do you prefer this scaled down version of the games or would you prefer them going with a different art style entirely to make it run better? I think making the characters and environments look more cartoony would make the game unique and possibly worth a second buy.

CrabPalace

We talk a lot about our gaming backlogs. What's on your life backlog?

Jc Ice

I believe it was MinnMax content that someone described Bethesda Studio games as chapters of their lives.(sorry if misremembering) So, on that note if you had to name the chapters of your life so far after video game titles what would they be? Let’s say a five chapter book broken up by your choosing. Example would be… Chapter 1: childhood Chapter 2: High School Chapter 3: College Chapter 4: Marriage Chapter 5: first child Of course you can make chapters into any life event(first job, first kiss, etc) or just by age(age 8, 16, 24, 30, now) Thanks! And keep up making awesome content!

SlickJames

If you lived your life by Pinocchio rules, how long would your nose be now? This would encompass your whole life, including if you were a mischievous child.

How do you think From Software feels about the positive critical reception of Lies of P?

Michael Berry

One of my best friends used to work as a manager at a sports bar and grill. As a result, he got to keep a promotional cardboard cut out of the "Dos Equis Most Interesting Man in the World" guy. We were roommates at the time and that cardboard cut out would regularly scare the crap out of me. At times, when I thought I was home alone, I would see a man, in my peripheral just standing in my living room. It freaked me out A LOT. What is the dumbest thing to ever scare you?

KiwiTheGoo

Hey MinnMaxers, if you're defending yourself with a rake, do you hold the stick part or the claw bit? Thank you.

Aging_Poorly

Hi Ben and the CLCs - new patron, thrilled to be a part of the community! I've got a BetterQuest goal and **need** to be held accountable. I'm doing alright with the big stuff, but it's the littlest, smallest-time-commitment things in my life where I struggle. First up: dental health. I absolutely **must** start brushing my teeth twice a day and actually using the water pick I bought. Anyone else find that the seemingly easiest, least time-consuming goals are the hardest to stick to? Any advice on getting into a better routine in the morning/evenings?

Dusty Beaman

"What are some games that have been announced and forgotten that you wish would have come out?" Jeff M says Elden Ring and to play the tape back 3 years from now & Ben promised to play it back when Elden Ring wins all the same awards for 2021. Why didn't the clip get played for 2022? Why doesn't Jeff M get more appropriate levels of shame for his insistence that Elden Ring was never coming out? Please play the clip from The MinnMax Show on 09/16/2020 near the 1:39:10 mark. You guys are awesome, thanks

Ahoy MinnMax and crew! Nintendo has had a rich history of console sound effects, from the rolling cube of the GameCube to the crisp "bah-ding" of the GameBoy to the now iconic "click" of the Switch to name a few. What's your favorite console sound effect that fills you with happy, nostalgic dopamine? And what sound do you predict will grace Nintendo's next generation of console? Give your best impression!

Hey MinnMax, since most of y'all work out of your homes do you find yourselves napping anytime throughout the day? Do you have an optimal number of minutes/hours for a nap?

With the leaked Xbox controller touting haptic feedback, what are the crew’s thoughts on haptics? Outside of Astro’s Playroom, I struggle to think of any cool or memorable applications of the Dualsense.

Jonathan Valdez

wanted to ask this like 4 months ago but never did, On an episode someone asked for your favorite yellow characters and on the fly you named the most yellow characters. I always wonder if those people think "cool that they picked my question but that wasn't what I asked." My question was if you guys ever think about that or have any feelings about it.

Linn

I recently finished Dave the Diver, and wow, this might be my Game of the Year! The loop of improving your character, and earning money by simulation management was a blast. Cute graphics, a wholesome story and lots of surprises in scope, sealed the deal. If you HAD to pick a GOTY right now, where is your head at? Please give us a sneak peak if the juicy December discussion! 😊

I knew a guy who would pay his little sister to grind in RPGs! I often wish I had a ‘gaming intern’ to play the parts of games I don’t enjoy. Which parts of games make you want to pass the controller to an assistant?

Evin Watson

As content creators you are on mic constantly. Are your on mic personas dramatically different from who you are off mic? I imagine the constant talking and responding has changed your brains a little bit. Are there any behaviors from your on mic persona that have bleed into your off mic personal life? I imagine Ben using rapid fire questions during a family dinner. Or anyone describing a new thing as not being fit for the “two tens”. Keep doing what you do! Evin

With the big game rush in full swing, are there any smaller recent or upcoming games that are really appealing to you? I'm personally intrigued by Jusant, the mountain climbing game from dontnod
