At what exact point do you change the dishwasher sign from “clean” to “dirty?”

Cath

Hey everyone! What is the top Halloween costume this year ? Last years it was Wednesday, from the Addams family, I think this is it will be Barbie ! Do you have your costume planned ? I still don’t know what do dress up as! Suggesting?

Travis in Fargo

How old is too old to dress up for Halloween?

Travis in Fargo

I have inherited about 10,000 sports cards that are apparently worthless. What should I do with them?

Swedish pagan

Is there a book or book series you would like to see turned into a game?

Brady Griffith

What do you think about the ethics of watching a single player campaign on YouTube instead of buying the game? I played Mortal Kombat X and found that I just don’t really care for fighting games, but the story is interesting. Is it bad to watch the story for MK 11 and then MK 1 on YouTube instead of playing the game?

Victor Pham

How important is to you to play games online via a wired connection instead of WiFi?

PoorAndCurly

Hey crew, What is the absolute worst DLC you've played? I'm not talking cosmetic packs etc., something that added new gameplay to the base game.

WeGoGiant

Hello MinnMax. F Zero 99 is pretty fun, but I don't think I'm very good at it. This got me thinking. If you could give any game, old or new, Nintendo or anyone else, the "99" treatment, what game would you pick and how would you make it work? My first thought was Sonic Mania time trial style kinda like how Mario 35 did it. I bet the cohorts could come up with some really creative ideas. Thanks a bunch, Sean

Kraven Morcome

Hey MinnMax, Excited to hear you discuss Alan Wake this week as it is probably my favorite game of the 360 generation. I have a journal where I hand wrote every page of the first game's manuscript, character details, plot synopsis, Control connections, loose threads, and theories for the sequel. Overall a couple hundred pages and I'm ready to document the sequel next month. Hope we get a deepest dive. Cheers

Show of hands (or the podcast equivalent): who plays games in “dad mode”? Dad mode means, for example, cranking the difficulty way down, using things like the dodge ring in FF16 for the whole game, and using accessibility modifiers to skip or speed up puzzles? The key defining element is that you don’t do it for lack of skill; it’s for lack of time where failure results in redoing long levels or battles and potentially costing you an entire play session.

Ryan M

Hey MinnMax crew. Why was the number of bits of a console so important? The console generations used to be defined by bits, with the N64 even using it in its name, but now I don't even know how many bits current gen consoles have. What made that go out of favor?

Sam Worms

What's your phone background and what's the significance of it?

Matthew W

Hi MinnMax, do you enjoy it when a game breaks it's own rules or mechanics for a short period of time? For example, Rain World has a memorable section where the survival mechanics are dispensed with in order to emphasize a big story beat.

I may be an old man yelling at a cloud, but I’m glad we still get some form of tactile feedback in our lives through video game controllers. Which button on which controller has the most satisfying click or sound? I love the two-stage action of a GameCube shoulder button. The flick of a Guitar Hero or Rock Band strum bar is a close second

mikewearsprada

Good day, everyone! When did you first realize that your favorite game was going to be your favorite game? Was it during your time playing it? Once the credits rolled? Or did you realize it after years of reflection on it? Bonus points if you JUST NOW realized what your favorite game was! Peace and love to you all.

ProcyonNumber6

Hey Benn and Friennds, What do you yearn for?

Keegan

I just finished ffxvi and I thought it was pretty good, although some of the combat could get repetitive. My question is this: what’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Dusty Beaman

Does Ben veto all my questions now because I asked about his dirty laundry?

SlyCut

Hello all, On a not-too-long-ago show, you jokingly mentioned reading everyone's last will and testament as a New Show+ option. It got me curious, though. What would happen to MinnMax if Ben died?

Dalendry

Hey Hanson and crew. I've got a question about horror game experiences. I remember renting Fatal Frame from Blockbuster with a friend of mine back in 2002. We thought it would be cool to play with all the lights off in a pitch black room. Needless to say we didn't make it very long before turning all the lights on. That game was surprisingly unsettling. What is the scariest game you all remember playing as a kid?

Philip Mendoza

Hey Minnmax Crew! On an episode before Hanson left on maternity leave he mentioned him and his wife were creating bulk meals so, when the baby arrive, they'd have ready made meals. Hanson also mentioned he was playing a joke on "future Hanson" by writing "cursed" on the meal. My question is two fold: 1. Hanson, how did that joke play out? 2. Have you had a time where "past you" has played a prank/sabotaged (purposefully or by accident)/ set "future you" up for success? How did that go? Love the podcast! Thanks for the countless hours of entertainment. Love, Philip

Did gaming get in the way of good grades and schoolwork for you as a child or in university? It absolutely did for me in elementary and high school.

MakeItUnclear

Alan Wake is one of the all-time "We Were Sponsored By A Real Brand" video games, with Energizer batteries front and center the entire game (though removed from the remaster, I'm told). What are some of your favorite immersion-breaking (or immersion-enhancing) product placement moments in video games? I'll throw my support behind the Cup Noodles quest line in Final Fantasy XV.

Blazingscourge

What video game do you think could have done better if it was made in a different medium (Podcast, Book, etc.)?

Duderado

I need to ask the council. Why aren't the Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD remakes on Switch yet? Are they being saved for the Switch 2?

Stark

What are the best and worst video game offices you have ever visited?

Chandler

If you could painlessly and effortlessly dodge roll in real life would you do it all the time?

Conner McCabe

Hi Ben, Kyle, Janet, and Hayley. Here’s a question for the four of you and nobody else. How often do you actually save and quit in modern single player games instead of just putting your console to sleep?

BEEFCAKE

Is camping fun?

dmoreno

Hey crew, Do you all find it weird to be on the edge of gaming discussions often playing games to completion before they release to the public and then having to move on quickly after? With games getting bigger/longer and most people having just a few hours of gaming per week. How do you deal with you and your audience not being on the same page generally? For example, I just completed FF16 about 2 weeks ago and I genuinely think it's one of the bottom tier FF games (outside of the insane boss battles). I'm currently still on my first playthrough of Starfield and most of the discussion for this game has disappeared from the zeitgeist outside of forums or YT shorts.

Now that Sakurai is no longer announcing new characters for Smash Bros, are there any announcements in the industry that potentially rival that excitement?

Vincent L.

What is the biggest DIY project you’ve done in an area outside your wheelhouse? If you don’t have an answer: Is there a project you would like to attempt to complete?

Stevelution

If you could have a couple of beers with any video game character who would it be?

BobaFets

Hi CLC’s, During the latest FFVII remake trailer Aerith says the line “We can overcome our fate” do you think this hints to a major story change to Aerith’s fate specifically? The story already uses alternate timelines and deviated a bit from the original story so it’s not out of the realm of possibility. It also has the benefit of not wrecking me emotionally! Keep up the fantastic work!!!

JEREMY L

Hi! Last week you folks got a message about the newest song you know of and Ben said that he's resigned to living in a "black hole of idiocy for this medium". Well, I feel the same way, and there's a great episode of the Podcast Search Engine on "How do I find new music now that I'm old and irrelevant" that might interest you! Enjoy! https://open.spotify.com/episode/0kOUnOTlYpuLAKMiFDMUgS?si=XfGqjd7BRwmJforOf1J9NA

Hey Minnmax, this question is for Janet specifically but anyone can answer. I’m trying to get into jogging/running a little a few times a week. I used to skateboard but haven’t been recently. I wear glasses and don’t have contacts so one problem I have is my glasses constantly falling off but without them I can’t see too well. My other problem is I love to listen to music while running but don’t want to wear an Apple Watch while running, which means carrying my phone. Do you have any suggestions to a fellow glasses wearer who listens to music, a niche experience indeed, and also what got you motivated to start running to begin with? Thanks for all you do.

If you could respec irl, what are you investing your skill points in, and what are you removing skill points from? ie if you’re clumsy you might want to have more dexterity. I’m personally going for a himbo build (dumping a ton of points into strength, giving myself basically 0 intelligence, and maxing out charisma).

Alex Britt

What is one thing you love about yourself and one thing you love about another person on the today's podcast?

Vilis

Hola Horts! Alan Wake Remaster was one of the free PS+ games recently so I decided to dive back in. The gameplay is a bit dated, but the storytelling is really fun and well done. There's a scene after you meet up with Barry and leave him in a cabin, and step outside. If you fire your gun for no reason Barry FREAKS OUT like how a real person would and yells at you for scaring him. Also, they put these QR codes in certain places which link to YouTube videos which hint at Alan Wake 2 and the Alan Wake DLC in Control.

Branden Murphy

How's it going Minnmaxers? I've been switching between a Switch controller and an Xbox controller a lot lately and the flipped 'A' and 'B' and flipped 'X' and 'Y' buttons is getting very annoying. Especially for the tutorials and menus. Why would you ever accept things in the menu with the right face button (which is what you do on the Switch)? Also, jump not being 'A' in platformers just seems so odd to me. My question is: do you prefer the layout of the face buttons on the Switch controller or the Xbox controller?

Ravelle

Hey MinnMaxers! Do you have a game as a constant? A game that's always installed and you play when want to mellow out with a podcast, coffee or a beer/wine. As an example; for me it's Planet Zoo, there is nothing more Zen and zone out building and designing habitats with a podcast on with a beverage of choice.

Travis in Fargo

What’s a word that SOUNDS super appetizing, but has nothing to do with food? “Maguffin” always makes me hungry for a breakfast sandwich.

The Spine

Who on the MinnMax team would look the best with spiky Cloud hair?

Rikimaru

Hey MinnMax, let's talk Seasonal Gaming! Do you associate any game series with a specific time of the year? Which season do each of you associate with the following game series? Crash Bandicoot - Summer or Winter (Holiday)? Psychonauts - Summer or Halloween? The Legend of Zelda - Spring or Summer? Dark Souls - Halloween or Winter (Holiday)? Dead Island - Summer or Halloween? Bonus / Wild cards: Animal Crossing Pokemon Spider-Man Super Mario Bros. Uncharted

Hello MinnMax & Co. If you were asked to be a judge at a cookoff, what food/beverages would you be confident in judging? (Not necessarily your favorite foods)

Nick from Atlanta

Hello MinnMax! If you were given virtually limitless resources, do you think you could successfully plan, execute, and get away with a bank heist? I look forward to your machinations. Thanks, Nick from Atlanta

Howdy y’all, Does anyone still claim the Epic Game Store’s free games every month? They are currently giving out 3 to 4 games a month. I have been regularly claiming all the games that are free since December of 2018, granted, I have missed a few months here and there, but my current count in my Epic library is 290 games… and only 12 of them I paid for. I feel like this was a big deal when it was announced, and I really can’t believe they are still doing this. It feels like another Game Pass for me. Some notable games that have been given away for free are Death Stranding, The Bioshock Collection, Remnant 1, Star Wars Squadrons, Control, Nioh 1 & 2, The Arkham Trilogy, Sims 4, and Subnautica. Thank you! Jacob

Hey panel, There are many significant headlines coming from the NFL after 3 weeks, but what has everyone's attention? Taylor Swift went to her new boyfriend's, Travis Kelce, football game and sat in the VIP box with his mom. What news story or event sticks with you as significant, but was completely overshadowed by something you considered not as newsworthy.

LlorchDurden

I'm sorry I'm in my own world but after Fzero99 , which game would you pick for a "99-spin" (99 players, last player standing wins...)? What about 1080-99? Or GoldenEye 99? Why not go crazy and make Mirror's Edge 99!? ;D

Virgil B

Unlocking costumes in Mortal Kombat 1 has been really fun. There’s something empowering about getting new costumes for your characters. Which games have you enjoyed unlocking costumes in? Which games have your favorite character designs?

RabidLime

What are some good Halloween/horror games to play during the daytime? not caused i'm a baby, but because sometimes it hard to see anything. i'm finally getting through Resident Evil Village and got to... *that* part... but had to stop and wait till night to play because darkness plays such a big role, as with most horror. so, what are some games good for daytime spoops? some that came to mind: Fran Bow, Costume Quest (1 and 2), Pathologic

Abe

Hey, HuMinnMaxers. What’s the weirdest order you’ve gotten into a game series? My experience with Final Fantasy is strange considering I started the original Final Fantasy 7 a couple years back and stopped after Midgar. I then played Remake and really enjoyed seeing what I played expanded. But now I’m going into Rebirth sort of blind. I’m curious as to what the resident FF7 expert Ben Hanson thinks cause there’s no way I got time to finish the original with this year’s releases lol.

Since we were robbed of another ep of Haley’s Laws, Clauses and Claws, I’d love to hear her thoughts on the Unity’s resolution and walk-backs. (Especially in regards of the fact they’re now saying the Terms of Service you’re bout to are the ones shipped with the version of Unity you’re using and what happens retroactively if they change that verbiage down the line)

Dan from Canada

Which game has been on your wishlist the longest but always gets overlooked for something else ? Or the “next sale perhaps “

The lore of the Assassin's Creed franchise is spread over 13 mainline games, 16 spin off games (some of which can no longer be played), 21 comics, 4 short films, an Audio Drama, a board game, and 27 novels (one of which, isn't canon, since it's based on the movie). In April of this year, Assassin's Creed IV had a 'sequel' being released weekly in the form of a korean webtoon with 150 episodes. This feels like quite the endeavor to stay up to date on the lore of a video game franchise. My question for the group - What is the bare minimum amount of content I can consume to be considered a 'hardcore fan'? Other series do this as well, Star Wars, Halo, Warcraft, etc... these things are getting hard to consume!!!

CptCobblePot

Hi Minnmaxers, If someone time traveled from the year 1992, what game would you show them? Would it be something graphically impressive or lean more towards something that showcases how far overall gameplay has changed?
For reference in 1992 popular games that released were: FFV, Wolfenstein 3D, Indiana Jones and The Fate of Atlantis, Streets of Rage 2, and Sonic The Hedgehog 2.

Fatt Mish

Hi MinnMax fam. Quick question. What's the scariest thing that you've ever witnessed or experienced in a non-spooky game. Loving the show. - Mars from MN

Jared Piers

Hey MinnMax, Since its release on PS5, I've been playing Baldurs Gate with my wife and its made me realize that most co op focused games have got it wrong. Most co op games focus on having multiple characters that work together to solve a problem but they should be focused on being able to solve separate problems with as little interaction with each other as possible. Both my wife and I are completely self sufficient in Baldurs Gate and we each get to have our own little victories and moments of discovery while sharing info if we need to and grouping up to take down the bigger challenges. I think this is my ideal co op experience. What do you think is the ideal co op game?

When was the last time you were nervous?

Josh LaBaw

I have been on a mental health journey since about March. Physical activity has played a big part in the form of Ring Fit on Switch. It's not going to give me the happiness or great conversations of finishing a big story game like Red Dead Redemption 2, but this game has had a significant impact on my life. Do you all have a game of importance but without the big story beats?

nixc9

Hey cohorts, here's a game for you. To celebrate Alan, batteries and torches, can you come up with an even more ingenious idea for hiding a commercial product into a clever game mechanic? Or plot element?

Graham Jones

What New Show Plus option would you most want made into a regular show in the rotation?

Tokyo Game Life

I went to Tokyo Game Show last week and instead of making a beeline for the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo, I played Sonic Superstars. Did I make the right decision? Who else here would choose to play the Sonic Superstars demo over the FFVII one?

Ryan

Why do so many games with deep character customization/creators insist on using a singular, unchanging protagonist for marketing/box art? Most recent example that I've seen is Cyberpunk. But it also happened with Shepherd in Mass Effect and The Hunter in Bloodborne, to name a few. Feels weird that I can look at the box art for ME1-3 and say, "That's Commander Shepherd. He's an iconic video game character that most people would recognize." even though my Shepherd looked nothing like him. Am I crazy?

Harrison

A while ago someone wrote in about a wild coincidence and Ben said if anyone else had any more to send them in so here's mine - I got an instagram ad and for a band whose name sounded vaguely familiar and when I looked them up I realised they were a band I'd followed on facebook back in 2014 after I saw them busking in York, shortly after moving there from Ireland. I mainly had only followed them because one of the members smiled at me and I thought he was cute. I mentioned this in passing in my writing group's discord and my friend asked if the band was King No One. I said it was and asked how she knew and she replied 'because i also visited york in 2014 and also saw them busking and ALSO thought the guy was cute and he ALSO SMILED AT ME lmao'. So we were likely in the same city, around the same time and had identical experiences with the same band 6 years before we'd ever actually meet each other. (It also turns out another member of our writing group lived in York at that time too but she did not see the band busking)

Harrison

Hey all, Original FFVII is known for having a pretty rushed localisation process resulting in some pretty infamous translation errors, the most well known being 'This guy are sick' and Aerith's name. However, early English press materials which had Aerith's name translated correctly had Sephitoth's name translated as Sephiross and apparently Zack's name in Japanese is is actually closer to Zax rather than Zack. There was also the choice to use the traditional Scottish Gaelic spelling for Cait Sith rather than a phonetic one, which would make more sense in a game with solely text based dialogue. I know there are some other games that are known for poor localisation but are they any others that seemed to affect character names so much?

jacob hubbard

Hey MinnMax! With the recent Microsoft leaks from the Activision Blizzard acquisition, it serves to remind us that we rarely get to see "behind the scenes" this much in gaming. Even in Hollywood, where franchise plans and the like are kept under wraps, we still hear about how big a movies' budget is, how much the actor/actress made, and what is being worked on next. What do you think is different about games? Like, where's the equivalent of the Box Office Mojo? What makes the gaming industry so secretive?

SlickJames

Hey Minnmax, which Resident Evil game do you think is the best in the series? My personal favorite is the Resident Evil remake on GameCube.

Clint Farley

Hey MinnMax, Do you think The Game Awards could use an 'Outstanding Performance by a Cast' type category like the SAG Awards? Right now they only have 5 spots and usually if a game has multiple great performers only two get nominated from a single game. With Baldur's Gate 3 out, and having a great cast of characters, I'm just reminded of how having this type of ensemble category for a game could be a great addition.

Ronn

Hello MinnMax! After completing my previous Better Quest goal of finally getting my BS degree in Plant Science I now have a new goal. I recently started a job in agriculture, and I need to learn Spanish. I have been using DuoLingo for the past three days, and as my new goal is I want to get a yearlong streak and become somewhat fluent in the new language. Keep up the good work! Ronn

Hey MinnMax crew! New subscriber here. Glad to be supporting you guys! I’m a teacher by trade, a Jr. High and HS band director specifically. Every fall we do a fundraiser with our younger bands to raise money for the program and this year I was intrigued by the video that the fundraising company made to kick off the sale for our kids. They essentially tried to go HARD into appealing to the students by describing how the sale worked using almost nothing but gaming aesthetics and lingo. Using animated characters and stylized graphics, they described the sale as a “multiplayer adventure game”, a quest that needed to be beat, incorporating progress bars, cumulative “perks”, “mastery achievements”, and of course, tons of loot. There was even an prize incentive for kids to sell 8 items over the first weekend of the sale which they referred to as a “bonus mini game.” If the students failed to select which prize they wanted from each sales level category, the “randomized loot selector” would do it for them on the backend. They told the kids to start thinking about the “characters” in their “home world” as the first people they could sell to. The video finished up with “pro tips” for how to “level up” their sales with friends and family. I admit it felt a weird and perhaps even a little gross, but all the same I do think it was at least somewhat effective in helping my students grasp how the sale worked. I’ll include a link below if you want to check out the video itself, but as a question I wanted to ask, have you ever seen something like this that so blatantly wanted to use gaming as an in for educational or sales purposes? How did you feel about it? Thanks and keep up the great work! Brad Beyer Alpena, MI Video Link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/14HYsKFX8NX1HsinzmryJ9JZG_KqeHnDV/view?usp=drivesdk

What snack do you think does the best job of tasting like the flavor it's trying to be? For example, I think Dr. Pepper Jellybelly's taste exactly like the drink.

Michael Berry

Hey Minnmax! Ben recently mentioned that he wants to try Bugs Bunny and Taz: Time Busters, a 3D platformer for the PS1. And that got me thinking about other lesser loved, but awesome PS1 titles. One of these that is close to my heart is the Treasures of the Deep. It is an underwater adventure where you take on a terrorist group with a variety of submersibles while also defending yourself from aggressive wildlife. I still regularly think about this game and it's soundtrack is awesome. What is a lesser known PS1 game that you love talking about and enjoy?

Chris Gilbert

Hello everyone! Like many I'm super excited for Alan Wake 2 and I'm curious to see how they stick the landing after over a decade since American Nightmare. I have fond memories of that little Xbox Live Arcade exclusive game/dlc/stand-alone expansion, I played through a couple times and I think I did everything there was to do, but when I think of Alan Wake it's definitely the first game followed by "Oh right, American Nightmare exists too". So, did any of you play American Nightmare? And if you did, what did you think? Did the sparser storyline/lack of character interaction and greater focus on gameplay result in a lesser experience? Did the Kasabian needle drop for a satellite falling out of space seem weird for a game that came out in 2012? (I think that scene is neat, song is still a banger). Thanks for all the great work y'all do, I can always count on MinnMax shows to lift my spirits week in and week out. Cheers! (crystalbear in the Discord)

Ahoy MinnMax and crew! In the Mario universe, if Toads eat super mushrooms, does that make them cannibals? O__O

Hey all, read any good books lately/got any recommendations? Unlike my videogame backlog, I am always excited to add to my book backlog.

What is a more essential utility for the MinnMax staff, reliable internet or running water? The question may seem silly but if you really think about it, one directly affects the sustainability of the virtual office of MMHQ much more than the other. Discuss!

Andrew Rennolds

Hey Minnmax! Is there any scenario where user reviews are actually useful. With the news of starfield being review bombed and overwatch 2 earlier in the year, is there anything steam or metacritic do to make user reviews useful for everyone?

Cody Allison

Howdy, If you look at super smash Brothers ultimate or Mario kart 8 deluxe these are the complete experience for long running franchise. What other franchises would you want this kind of experience for that we don't already have

Hey friends, I just rolled credits on Baldur's Gate 3 (160+ hours). What do I do now? Thanks, Dan

Hello Minnmax! What are your thoughts on console quality games on your phone? With Apple’s announcement of RE4R and RE Village coming to iPhone 15 Pro I’m intrigued but not sure I’d shell out another 60 bucks to buy it again on a mobile platform. What are your thoughts?

Luca Alberti

Hello crew! has any of you recently gone back to older E3 conferences following the recent 1080p reuploads? In general do you often rewatch past conferences?

Onlinesquid

Hi everyone, In the span of 24 months Insomniac released the first three Ratchet and Clank games to metacritic scores of 88/90/91 respectively. In a theoretical world where a company had mastered current technology enough to publish direct sequels, with similar improvements and innovations, at this pace in current time, do you think they would get the same reception? Or would they suffer critiques of "Its just more of the same" that we see for a lot of sequels now?

Beloved CLCs, what are the most important words a person can say?
