Hi everyone, What's the better type of 4-day week? The one where you have Monday off or the one where you have Friday off?

Quillgrim

“WOWIE ZOWIE” — what video game do you think would be the most dramatically altered if one of its characters adopted this catchphrase from Super Mario Bros. Wonder? Example: Kratos from God of War belting out “WOWIE ZOWIE” every time he smashes open a chest.

Travis in Fargo

People say if someone isn’t nice to a waiter, that they’re probably not a nice person. Do you have any specific or strange ways of determining the character of someone?

Sam Kennedy

Dear MinnMax, I’ve gotten a lot of hate this Halloween season for liking Almond-joys and candy corn. My question for you is which is better—Almond joys or candy corn?

Shane C

What's your go-to flavor of jam?

Michael Griffin

Hello MinnMax! When you make food, do you put leftovers in a separate container, or do you store them in the pot or pan it was cooked in?

Parmetheus

Do you ever find yourself using slang ironically but then use it so much that you're basically using it unironically now? I do it way to much. eg, yolo, -ussy, lit

Dusty Beaman

Does Ben ignore my questions since I asked about his dirty laundry?

Denham Harry

BetterQuest goal! I’ve started exercising regularly for the first time in years, and have found myself to really enjoy it! I’m setting myself the challenge on doing 50 crunches and 30 minutes of jogging every day until the end of the year. Any workout tips for a beginner like me?

JTDenton

In your video game career, do you think you've enabled more shield generators, or disabled more shield generators?

SlyCut

Would you rather never be able to wear socks or never be able to wear underwear?

Malcolm Holliday

Hey Minnmax, what are some of your favorite Halloween memories?

Travis in Fargo

How much candy did you eat, and what were the highlights?

Seabass

Hey horts! Without being too weirdly personal, where do you eat dinner in your house? My wife and I were strictly “coffee table in front of the TV” but once we had kids we are now all at the kitchen table every night.

Phelix Diaz

I decided to watch The Thing (2011), for what I thought was the first time, but 15mins into the movie I realized I've already seen it, and had no memory of this. Has this ever happened to you and even worse has it happened with a game?

Mike Lynch

Now that Sakurai is no longer announcing new characters for Smash Bros, are there any announcements in the industry that potentially rival that excitement?

BEEFCAKE

How do I know this isn’t part of Sam Lake’s story?

SlyCut

If you had the ability to teleport, would you use it if 1% of the time your clothes didn't come with you?

John

How many saves minimum do you keep? Two? As many as there are slots?

Sam Worms

What are some of your nit-pickiest gaming opinions? I'm playing the Alan Wake Remaster and it drives me bonkers that the camera defaults to being over his left shoulder.

Preston Determan

Question for Leo, I finally finished watching the entire 10 hour travel log from Summer Game Fest (better late than never) and I didn’t realize it was ending with a cliffhanger. Did you get your McDonald’s? Did Sara get it? I didn’t think I would have more questions after finishing the travel log!

Taken from NYMag: https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2019/06/is-this-quote-from-marianne-williamson-or-metal-gear-solid.html Are these quotes from Metal Gear Solid or 2024 presidential candidate Marianne Williamson? #1 - "Do you think love can bloom even on a battlefield?" - MGS #2 - "Only one thing matters: the purity of your mission." - Marianne #3 - "Memes. The DNA of the soul. They shape our will. They are the culture — they are everything we pass on." - MGS #4 - "The universe is an infinite opportunity creation machine. The possibility of greater possibility is programmed into the nature of things." - Marianne #5 - "Every thought we think is like a missile delivering either harmony or chaos. And it lands on us!" - Marianne There are more in the link, these were at least shorter

Hey MinnMax, In Spiderman 2 there is a side mission that features a licensed song, Seabird by the Alessi Brothers, and without spoiling anything its a cool mission. One week before Spiderman came out the HBO show Our Flag Means Death ended their episode with the exact same song playing over the credits. Is it a weird coincidence that two unrelated projects would feature the same song from 1977, a song that never made the top 100 charts anywhere internationally, or is stuff like this more common then I think? Also, you should watch Our Flag Means Death. What a fabulous show, in every meaning of the word.

Travis in Fargo

What was the celebration restaurant you went to as a kid, after a baseball game, choir performance, etc.?

Nick from Atlanta

Hello Cohorts Another week of absolutely amazing games in 2023, and another week of absolutely heart wrenching games industry jobs getting destroyed. This really sucks! Over 6000 jobs have been lost this year. I don't really have a question here, I'm just pissed. Why is it that the people making the decisions that lead to failures like this never face real consequences? Oh right, capitalism sucks. Thanks, Nick From Atlanta

Rikimaru

Hey, MinnMax! I love when games give detailed statistic screens. Even in my relatively short time with a game like Alan Wake, it's fun to see how many thousands of flashlight batteries I went through. Or how many hundreds of shivs I created The Last of Us. If we could track statistics for our real lives outside of fitness and games, what would be a surprising stat about yourself? Who has the highest Eggo waffle count?

ProcyonNumber6

Hey Benn and Friennds, In the spirit of Metal Gear discussion; what game lore do you want to sit down with a stranger and a cold beer to explain in detail? Mine would be Assassins Creed. Keep up the great work.

Brandon Scott

Hey y'all, I'm going to interview for a full-time geoscientist position with ExxonMobil in Houston, Texas this week. The pay and benefits are really good, but I'm scared to leave my home city. How have y'all dealt with moving cities for work, and potentially how should I?

Brandon Scott

Could playing a pre-1995 game to completion be used as punishment for a modern child? Which old game suits such misbehaviour?

Devin Atlee-Nutts

CORRECTION! Last week Ben reeled off the strangest unlockable characters from the Tony Hawk series including a 'welder', which he joked was Isaac Clarke from Dead Space. Isaac actually made an appearance in the rival skating franchise with Skate 3! He showed up in a few games around this time including, bizarrely, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10. This was apparently due to the the model sharing the same rig used in other games for a simple port, and Dead Space's engine was actually a branch of Tiger Woods' too!

RynaGoGo

Howdy Ben and the Boys, You can Poo. You can Pee. You can PooPoo. You can PeePee. You can PooPee but can you PeePoo? Thanks for your time!

Victor Pham

How do you cope with stress and mental health issues?

Sassy Little Imp

I’ll sometimes cook 2 pounds of Brussels sprouts for lunch on the weekend when I want to mindlessly eat a lot of a healthy food. I casually mentioned this to a coworker once and the horror on his face made me realize i made a huge mistake. I instantly became “the weird brussel sprouts guy” in his eye and from that point on it became all he could think about when talking to or about me. What is the strangest or least representitive identity you’ve inhabited as a side character in someone else’s story?

Dustin L

Yo yo! Do any of you have a vivid memory of borrowing a game from a friend as a kid? I remember borrowing a game for the first time. In 5th or 6th grade, my buddy John brought his copy of Metal Gear Solid on the PS1 on the bus for me to borrow, and boy did it blow me away!

Kaizoku Risu

Who’s your favorite skeleton character in any piece of media?

Cath

What was your Halloween costume ?

David Johnson

I'm currently playing through CONTROL again trying to get to the DLC. I turned on assist mode to enable the one hit kill on enemies and speed through the game. While I don't love it on boss fights, it has greatly improved the running around combat in the game. I'm Director Jesse Fayden, why shouldn't I be able to take out these Hiss punks in one shot? What games have you guys unexpectedly enjoyed more on lower difficulties?

Aging_Poorly

Hey MinnMax team, My path to finding MinnMax was as follows: Joseph Anderson YouTube essays -> Jacob Geller's excellent "The Quiet Sadness of Mario Galaxy" video -> the rest of Jacob Geller's stuff -> MinnMax. (thanks Jacob!). Jacob - in your Mario Galaxy video, you say that you think about a quiet moment in that game "a lot", and because of that, now I think about the garden hub on top of the observatory "a lot". Do you still think about those moments "a lot"? Hanson, Kyle, Leo: are there any video game moments that you, as Jacob Geller would say: "think about a lot"?

Cody Allison

Hey there, What's a hobby or skill of yours that you get compliments on that is way easier than most people think? And what tips do you have for people who might be interested in the same

Royal Mudkip

Hola MinnMax crew, I got a chance to see my favorite band, Foo Fighters, live just a few weeks back and had such a blast! Have you had a chance to see your favorite artist or band live? All the best, Edwin

RabidLime

what's a small thing you can do for anyone to make their day better?

Internet.Levi

It's Halloween y'all! Would you rather spend a weekend in a haunted house, or in some haunted woods? All the normal horror clichés apply to both places

RabidLime

CLCs do you anthropomorphize anything? like, if there's three q-tips and i need two, i'll be worried two of them are in a relationship and i'll break them up. i also rotate my dishes properly. so they all get used the same amount.

Wes Bates

Greetings MinnMax Crew, Pagers, Fax Machines, Phone Booths, Slide Projectors, Rotary/LAN Line Telephones, Walkman’s and Palm Pilots are all examples of gadgetry that existed 15-20 years ago but largely aren’t in use anymore. Even physical media seems to be on its way out the door from many large retailers and it’s debatable how much longer it will be in vogue. So my question to the crew – what are some examples of things that are commonplace today that you think won’t exist in another 15-20 years? Thanks for taking my question if you do! Cheers! ~ Wes

Starkiller

Hey MinnMaxers, What do you think is the biggest butterfly effect any of your content has had on the games industry? For instance, Ben, do you think the rapid-fire No Man Sky interview had a direct impact on decisions made during Starfield's development. Thanks!

bizkiut (Nick S.)

Hello CLCs, in honor of the spooky season, what was your favorite Halloween costume that you have worn over the years? Nick S. from MI

SuperThisWay

What’s your 2nd favorite game? I don’t care about the first or third. Just second

Andy Weas

Hey crew! I’m loving Spider-Man 2 and it got me thinking about all the licensed games that are on the horizon. We’ve got Avatar, a million Star Wars projects , Indiana Jones, Iron-Man, Wolverine and the list goes on. Setting aside the valuable licensed IP vs new IP debate, what are some licenses that you’d love to see come to games? I’d love to see a Sifu style John Wick game so we could spend more time in that universe. Thanks! Y’all rock.

Joshua Ayers

This is more of a Jacob and Leo question, but everyone's input is valued! If you were going to make a video game about making a video essay, would you make the essay be about making video games?

Michael Berry

Why couldn't Scooby Doo and his friends ever figure out that the monsters were never real, just disgruntled janitors? I mean it happened every time! You think they would recognize the pattern a whole lot sooner.

Scott Castro

Hey CLCs! As a happily married man, I must admit that my heart skipped a beat last week when Leo said that “Fun Size 100 Grands” were his favorite candy. I’ve suffered in silence for decades for having an oddball choice for favorite Halloween candy, but in that moment Leo made me feel validated and I’m convinced we may be soulmates. Thank you, Leo, for making me feel seen. All the best!

Josh Elliot

If the MinnMax crew was a party in a JRPG, what would everyone's class be? What is everyone's ultimate move?

Xavier Perez

Hey crew, I was playing Alan Wake 2 all weekend and really loving it to the point where I had gotten all the collectibles and it was easily in my top 5 for the year. Then I encountered a game breaking bug over 20 hours in. Unfortunately I have no way of resetting to before the issue. I spent hours trying to find a workaround to no avail and it’s really dampened my whole experience. When was the last time you had a bug in game that was so bad it caused your opinion on the game to 180?

Luca Alberti

Howdy MinnMax panel, I was prompted by one of Sakurai's videos to purchase Space Harrier, and I gotta say, it's incredibly fun! I have a hard time thinking of the last time I played a retro game not associated with an IP that I was already familiar with or in my go-to genres, so I wanted to ask you: what was the last retro game you played that was out of left field and you ended up loving?

Zae

Hey cohorts, I’m playing through MGS 1 for the first time on my Nintendo Switch. It’s a phenomenal game, a product of its time most definitely, but it holds up in a lot of ways. I’ve been playing alongside a guide because there are a lot of things this game just doesn’t tell you outright. Things like “switching the controller” for psycho mantis, looking at the back of the physical case for a coded frequency, and having to backtrack for a sniper rifle are a few things I wouldn’t have figured out. I had to have my wife play the torture sequence because I’m not fast enough at it. So, is this game design a product of its time? Do the later Metal Gear Solid games have weird mechanics? How did people figure this out years ago, with guides or something? And last, am I just an idiot? Anyways, genuinely thank you for the podcast and all that you do. I am a huge fan! Have a great No Shave November guys!

Tokyo Game Life

1984’s Devil World came to North America for the first time ever this week thanks to Nintendo Switch Online. It was the first collaboration between Shigeru Miyamoto, Takashi Tezuka, and Koji Kondo. Since it is a new game for North America, is it eligible for the Two Tens? If so, do you think it will make the top or bottom half?

Mathew Angelly

Song of the Deep is a really good metroidvania. The art is gorgeous and the controls are tight. It is worth checking out.

Hayden Scott-Baron

I am enjoying the climbing game Jusant but the text does nothing for me. I’ve decided to skip all text and I’m having a great time. Which parts of which games would you opt out of?

UpsideDownJay

Howdy all! Here in Australia one of the biggest divides is what we call a chicken parmigiana! Some call it a parmi but others like myself call it a Parma! What sort of foods or things in general divide the people of Minnmax or even your area? Cheers from down under :)

dmoreno

With MGS3 Delta remake coming from Konami and (presumably if it's still alive and not just a rumor) a remake of MGS1 coming from Playstation in the future, Is there a world where we get a Playstation developed remake of MGS3 that lives alongside Konami's MGS3 Delta? PS: Avatar Frontiers of Pandora looks like the Horizon Zero Dawn-ification of the Ubisoft open world formula. Lush Environments, Fighting machines, Bows + Slingshots.

Hayden Berthelot

Playing Alan Wake 2 has had me thinking about connected universes across all media. Does anyone on the crew have a favorite connected universe? It doesn't have to be video game centric. Mine is probably the Cosmere from the author Brandon Sanderson.

Swedish pagan

Hello clc's! Have you ever pretended to like something because of your friends? When I was in high school all my friends loved rock climbing, but I hated it. I went on so many rock climbing trips because that's what my friends were doing.

Limp Bizquick

What’s the luckiest thing that’s ever happened to you

Christian Jimenez

Howdy, Are there any celebrity deaths that got to you. Matthew Perry this past weekend was a big one for many, including me. Feliz Dia de los Muertos. RIP Chandler Bing

Ben E

If I pour milk into a bag of Doritos, does it count as cereal?

I have somehow ended up on improvised West Coast Swing dancing tik tok. I do not get any other dance content and have no connection to dance in real life but I've been getting these videos for a year. Have any of you somehow ended up on a niche part of tik tok and do you know how you got there?

Patrick G

With so many great games this year back to back do you think the reviewers are having burn out especially jumping from one large game to the next? Does going back to back affect the review process or content process? I’ve felt burnout lately and it’s not my job to talk about these game.

Adam D

With Jusant being such a chill game despite it's extremely dangerous premise... What's an extreme sport you can imagine feeling zen enjoy you risk your life?

Thom Blackburn

Hello Minnesotans! I can't be the only one that isn't blown away with how mgs3 delta is looking right? 30fps, sluggish animations and an updated soundtrack that sounds like a knockoff so far. I know there's an amazing game in there but this new packaging makes it less appealing than the Vita version

notweirder

Hey Minnmax, is there anything you felt you learned way too late in life?

Fatt Mish

If you only had access to one controller for the rest if your life, which one would you choose? Always enjoy the show! - Mars from MN

Patrick Hughes

Ahoy good folks of MinnMax! There has been recent discussion among the gaming community that 2023 may be one of the most loaded, if not greatest years of gaming of all time. My question to you then is - Is this the greatest year of gaming? And if not, what year holds that title still? Here are a few other years surmised if needed for consideration / debate (feel free to add more years though if you feel such is deserving): 1998 = Ocarina of Time, Half-Life, Metal Gear Solid, Banjo-Kazooie, StarCraft 2007 = BioShock, Super Mario Galaxy, Uncharted, Portal, Mass Effect 2017 = Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Cuphead, Fortnite, Horizon Zero Dawn

b_wood

Your story is being retold. You will be able to decide how the story is told. It can fiction or non-fiction. You can use any setting. You decide the genre and what medium is used to tell the story (book, movie, TV series, video game, comic book, painting, mural, etc). Part or all of your story can be based on a future version of you and your characters. How would you retell your story? What genre would it fall under? Who would be the antagonist? What would be the setting? What would be the conflict and what are some of the key characters' motivations?

Kevin Kuper

What's the crews favorite UI to get to an objective? A Compass like skyrim, a dot on screen like Spider-Man, a map you have to pull out in the real world like sea of thieves? Thanks!

Blazingscourge

What’s up crew? Despite the wonderful season of games happing right now I thought it was a good idea to take a detour and play some older games. I ended up playing the Klonoa collection and had a blast. What was that last gaming detour you took while avoiding what was coming out at that time? Was the detour worth it?

James Pies

Hey MinnMaxers! An old college professor once told me that you should never bring up the following topics when talking with someone for the first time: religion, politics, music, or food. He claims these are all sure fire ways for a conversation with a new acquaintance to go south fast, as we can't help but stand our ground and stick to our passions. My question is, are there any gaming related taboo topics outside of standard console war malarkey that are just too divisive for civil discord? I don't know about you, but bringing up micro transactions, NFTs' potential, and the supremacy of 3D Mario over 2D Mario games are great dinner party fare.

Braulio Martinez

Hey crew! I was wondering what you think of Alan Wake II not getting a physical release? It seems a shame to sacrifice a seemingly awesome game from a relatively unknown franchise just to test a new digital-only release method. If it doesn't sell, they'll blame the game itself. Why not try it with a big franchise like CoD? Case in point, two friends and I are just not buying it until there is a physical release or a significant discount to make digital worth it. I imagine there are many others like this.

Jason Wojnar

Hey Allies, You all remember the PS2 first-person shooter Cold Winter. Truly one of my favorite games of all time and I never hear anybody talk about it.

MyNameIsDan

Hi friends, What is something you did last year that you don't do now?

Fred Dinovo

The trolls from Ernest Scared Stupid are the first thing that scared you as a kid right? Not just me right? Horrifying

OmegaBuster

In the spirit of Alan Wake 2 - if you were a slightly eccentric writer living in Bright Falls, what genre would you write? Alan Wake epic fantasy? Steamy romance? And what’s your manuscript titled?

LlorchDurden

after catching up with the latest episode of Cream of the Steam (thank for going back to Sarah and Ana btw) I do have 1 question. Is every horror game Alan Wake 2?

Edog4321

What is the best feeling vehicle in any game? That's right Leo it is the motorcycle from Days Gone I agree.

Rich McLaughlin

Is Kyle supposed to, and I quote, “eat his butt”? I don’t want that bet getting lost in the sea of great games.

Cody Ficker

Do you ever touch the trading cards you earn while playing Steam games? I like them. They're neat to look through and I remember selling a ton of them on the community market so I could buy Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 back in high school... But I feel like most people completely ignore them and might not understand them entirely.

Jeff (GazpachoManRandyCabbage)

Do you have any data on what other podcasts your subscribers listen to, and if not what do you think the most popular crossover podcast is? something else gaming (Giant Bomb, GI Show, Nextlander)? General interest (news, NYT The Daily)? Something else of shared interest (Doughboys, Blank Check, etc)? And I guess what pods do you hope your listeners are listening to?

Gavin Fitzgerald

When ye look to buy or rent a house, what are your must haves? What one thing do you wish you knew before you bought / rented your current house? My partner and I currently trying to buy and it is very tough, in New Zealand at least, but I think in lots of other countries too.

Ian Miller

Hello Ben and the crew, Is it just me, or do all games have baseline camera sensitivity wrong? Every time I boot up a new game, no matter if it's a first person shooter on PC or a platformer on console, I need to up the sensitivity -- at least a couple notches. I get these things are playtested, but sheesh! Is it just me or am I being too sensitive? Thanks love the show kiss kiss byeeeeeeeee!

With Jusant I've never been interested in climbing a mountain in real life, but am adoring the process in game. What are some real life activities that are mundane and/or terrifying and you avoid, yet when they're in a game you gravitate towards?
