If you had to describe your favorite video game using only sounds and no words, what would it sound like?

Travis in Fargo

What do you think next year’s big Halloween costumes will be?

Matthew Byerwalter

What are your favorite in-game reasons for gaming mechanics? For example, Mario 64's camera system is explained as Lakitu physically recording Mario's adventures right beside him at all times. A personal favorite of mine is in Kingdom Hearts where the main party sometimes get fun costume changes because they need to blend in to a world's setting in order to not upset the "natural order" of that world.

How many pigeons do you think you could reasonably carry? Is it the same amount has rabbits you could hold? *Average pigeon size is 32cm

Joshua Ayers

Hey representatives of the Minnimum and the Maximum, how do you feel about quality of life improvements in series, and for games in general? Are you fans of old-timey obtuse interfaces and hard-earned grinds, or do you prefer how many newer games cut out the stuff that isn't core to the process and focus more on the unique gameplay experiences each game can bring?

Adam D

When did we start using the word Biomes instead of descriptions such as worlds, areas, levels and now everything is a biome out of nowhere! When did you first hear it and why did the world become so much more prevalent?

Sam Kennedy

Should bears have jobs? How can we integrate bears into the workforce?

Zeth Hillman-Johnson

What's the perfect length for a song? 3:20? 2:50? 7:55? Sorry, no waffling on this one, you must choose one.

Braulio Martinez

Hi all! Simple question: what makes Mario Wonder a GotY candidate? Other than the name, the game is just a good but not briliant entry. It's Mario copying many ideas from Rayman Legends and Donkey Kong Country and hey, they're still good. Everyone seems to agree thay the multiplayer is worse than its ever been. Overall, it's a fine game but why is it making GotY lists? Is it just name? Do you guys see it as a worthy candidate?

Travis in Fargo

I get extremely excited to listen to everyone’s game of the year content. What do you look forward to - and is there anything you dread - about hashing out The Two Tens? I personally love every second of it.

Quillgrim

Think about the one video game you have put the most hours into over the course of your life. What in-game profession or occupation would you choose so that you could blend into the world and avoid being spotted as an alien invader that the in-game characters would set out to annihilate? In other words, you have to do the job well.

Thom Blackburn

Hi Minnmax, I had a dream that I was playing a game on my phone and when it was done, my phone somehow 3d printed a tiny little sweater that had some link to the story of the game. Do you like physical knickknacks as a reward for completing games?

Andy Dwyer

Do you wax and wane when it comes to hobbies? If so is there a hobby that you’ve grown more or less interested in recently? For me this year I’ve gone from barely reading for fun to spending about a half hour a day reading.

Victor Pham

Why are non-English performances always snubbed at both the Game Awards and the Oscars?

Clayton Dexter

Two different Qs: 1) have you ever gone through a game for a deepest dive or game club and ended up liking it less than you would have expected? 2) on Lies of P, does linearity help the game click in a way that larger maps in other SoulsLike games miss? What hooks in someone outside the SoulsLike fandom?

Adam Cohen

Hello MinnMax crew and special guests, What's something most people get wrong that really bugs you? For instance, it is incorrect to say "Legos", and it drives me crazy when people do. If you are talking about the interlocking toy bricks, you should say "Lego" or "Lego bricks". P.S. Shout out to Janet Garcia who I've noticed always does this correctly.

Ian Switaj

Howdy MinnMax! This past week Sony and Microsoft celebrated the third year anniversary of the launch of their ninth generation consoles. Yet through a mix of the pandemic, supply chain shortages, the fact that developers are still doing multi-generational releases, and the fact that the Switch is nearing its seventh anniversary with no successor in sight, it just doesn't feel like we're even close to halfway through these consoles' life cycles. What are your opinions on this console generation thus far and why do you think it feels so different in relation to comparable moments in past console life cycles?

Loud EEL

Did you know that Suriel Vazquez's podcast Every Week I'm In Tears (or as I call it: ramblings of a mad man) is on episode 26 and he is almost ready to fight Ganondorf? I just wanted to know how to get my refund for the TOTK Deepest Dive not being the most thorough TOTK discussion on the Internet. But in all seriousness, s/o Suriel for his incredible resolve in sticking with it, oh and completing every other Zelda game this year.

SuperThisWay

What’s your favorite instant gratification? Examples: being able to watch entire tv seasons at once or doom scrolling

Palo

I have very limited experience with comic books. Gita, is your podcast 52 Pickup a good place to try to jump in to that hobby? Is there anything one should review as homework beforehand? Any general instructions for a comic book newcomer? How is working with Alex Jaffe and Esper Quinn for that show? If I remember correctly Alex may be affiliated with DC comics, does that limit at all what you can discuss?

Mike Lynch

Have you ever felt vindicated by knowing what even now you'd consider a useless fact?

David Dubs

Hey Folks! I've been watching PsychOdyssey (Yes Ben, it's amazing) and it was interesting to see the process of a studio create a demo for E3 for the press. Has there ever been a memorable E3 or other gameshow demo that didn't go as expected while in a press demo?

Punk Wizard Ministries

End of the year GOTY podcasts are some of my favorite pieces of content so this year I am putting together a lil GOTY vote for me and my Discord friends. Any recommendations or best practices for organizing GOTY conversations/votes? My biggest goal is to celebrate the games we’ve enjoyed and the memories we’ve made, so any ideas are greatly appreciated!

SenttheProphet

If you told me in 2005 that the 2023 GOTY nominees would be Resident Evil 4 and a 2D Mario game - I would assume that technological innovation has stopped. Of course that is not the case, and the remake of RE4 and the "wonder" in the new 2D Mario game are modern games in their own right; but is their inclusion a bit of a surprise to you? At the core, the games are decades old - yet are in the "top 6" of games released this year. In 2005, dreams of VR, AI, all the buzzwords, and we are still here. I am happy with it, but are we behind where we thought we would be as an industry innovation wise?

SlickJames

Hey Minnmax, what’s the most memorable battle you’ve had in an RPG?

Richard Varall

With the Game Awards right around the corner, what do you guys think the odds are of a TGA trailer for the following high profile games: GTA6, Hollow Knight Silksong, Elden Ring DLC, Metroid Prime 4, the next Monster Hunter, Dragon’s Dogma 2?

The Sleepy MailMan

Hey, y’all! Hope this question’s not too simple, but why do you like games, and have your reasons changed over the years?

JeffM's Backlog

It's time for GOTY Backlog promises! Previously on "GOTY Backlog promises" Ben famously declared that there was "no world in which I don't finish Elden Ring." And by golly he got it done. So for this year, what is the game that you promise you will finish in time for GOTY's and that you feel is a requirement to having a fulfilling GOTY discussion.

brynmaur

Aftermath's Riley MacLeod posted an interesting piece on The Game Awards that highlighted something that's bothered me for a while: with TGAs having a "Best Independent Game" category, there's pretty much no chance for an indie to win or even be nominated for "Game of the Year". In that way it reminds me of the Academy's treatment of its "Best Animated Feature" category. I know there's a lot of factors at play, but what do you think developers and the press can do to put indies in the same light as AAAs when it comes to awards like this?

Patrick G

Why aren’t there more Christmas/seasonal holiday games? Movies dominate the market. Unless I’m missing something what are some winter holiday games? -Patrick

How many human lives is the Mona Lisa worth? What about dog lives? Would you destroy the Mona Lisa to save a dog? (feel free to substitute the mona lisa with whatever the current greatest work of art is)

Hi Ben, Janet, Leo, Nathan, and Gita, When was the last time you pretended something was a sword and brandished it?

Jared Piers

Hello Minnmax, If you could make one crime legal for everyone, what would it be?

JTDenton

The sex scenes in the original Mass Effect generated mainstream publicity and controversy, but just a few years later, Mass Effect Andromeda featured a more explicit version of the same thing and no one talked about it at all. Similarly, modern Mortal Kombat games are vastly more gruesome than their predecessors from the 90s, but attract virtually none of the same moral panic. What things that would be shocking if featured in a game today will be seen as perfectly normal and mundane within the next ten to twenty years?

GoomPatrol

Hey MinnMax crew! I recently listened to the Fire Escape Cast episode 66 and let me tell you listening to Ben and Dan Rykert talk about absolute nonsense for 3 hours was an absolute masterpiece! It was kind of weird hearing Ben use swear words so casually during that podcast and it got me thinking.. I’m curious on who you guys think on the staff has the biggest potty mouth..I personally think its Ben…He seems like such a good godly guy in the spotlight but I know he probably has a side that MinnMax doesn’t see ;) Love the show guys! Makes work so much enjoyable! Keep up the good work!

Adam_CW

What are the best games to play stoney baloney (stoned)?

Jacob B

Hey MinnMaxxinistas, a few years back a few friends and I got super into Age of Empires, but nobody had any experience with RTS’s and it lead to us forming our own meta that was constantly shifting as we learned the game. To this day it’s the most fun I’ve had with an RTS. Do yall have any similar experiences learning a game with your friends that maybe wouldn’t have hit as hard if you’d been stuck learning from randoms online?

Phelix Diaz

What's the most trivial thing that causes the most irrationally anger for you?

bizkiut (Nick S.)

Ok, we always talk about the best games of the year. I don't want to make this into a "let's talk bad about this game time" but what are some of the games that you have played this year that you had the least fun playing? Not necessarily saying the game is bad, but it just wasn't your cup of tea.

Dan from Canada

Do you have an episode of a podcast that you have listened to the most ? I always go back to top 10s etc.also episode of Rewatchables on the movie Spotlight or Social Network

BSM Productions HD

With how Dave the Diver has been nominated as an indie game for the game awards despite being made by Mintrocket (a Nexon subsidiary) it seems like the idea of an indie is losing meaning. What does a game need to have to be an indie in you all's eyes?

Rikimaru

Hey, MinnMax! Fornite OG is back! WoW Classic is bigger than ever! Halo Infinite has been adding maps from Halo 3! Is nostalgia the key to successful live service games?

Palo

Before I forget. Leo recently was asked where to look for laws and suggested the library (smart chap). There are specific law libraries at many law schools and court houses. I just wanted to note that the "Google" for lawyers is called WestLaw, and owned by Thomson Reuters. They have a huge headquarters in Eagan, Minnesota.

Josh LaBaw

Hello Cohorts, Leo has the largest drinking cup in all of podcasting. What's in that thing? What's the washing routine? What's in everyone's cup? I only wash my office mug once a week. How often do you change yours?

Stevelution

If you could give your younger self, about to embark on the career you’re in now, some advice what would it be?

BobaFets

Does the decision to send back the Washington DC pandas to China have anything to do with the anti-panda rhetoric heard on this fine podcast?

BEEFCAKE

What’s the worst animal to be your super hero alter ego? There’s Batman, Spider-Man.. why no Manatee man? Platypus girl?

Joshua Novalis

Hey Minnmax! Next year, I’m planning on starting a new tradition. Each January, I’m going to pick a series that I don’t know well and try to play through every entry in that series over the course of the year. I feel like it will be a fun way to fill some of my knowledge gaps, give older titles their time to shine, and see how a franchise evolves over time. My question to you is: if you had the time, what is a series that you would choose to play through over the course of a year? Would you take the opportunity to try something new or use it as an excuse to go back to some old favorites?

Tom Rickard

Hey folks! Listening to talk about December games being late for GOTY on Party Chat got me thinking. If you all had to make a pick for your favorite December release of the last couple years that released a little quietly, what would it be? For example there has been Immortals Fenyx Rising, Solar Ash, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, The Callisto Protocol, Chained Echoes, etc.

SlyCut

If you had to spend Thanksgiving in a video game, which game has the food that you would want for your meal?

Fatt Mish

What's your go to fast food item in a pinch? Much love. - Mars from MN

Aging_Poorly

Bad news: There's been a tear in the space-time continuum and you are forced to restart your life on the day you were born. Good news: Due to the tear, you will restart your life with one video game character as your fraternal twin. Who do you choose? A few rules: 1 - if the character has any superhuman powers/abilities, they don't get them in this new life. Just their appearance, personality, and qualities. 2 - if the character is non-human, they'll have the closest reasonable human appearance to how they appear in the video game. No robots/demons, etc. Keep in mind - this isn't your romantic partner or best friend - you're picking the closest family member you'll ever have. Who's your pick?

Sam Worms

Do y'all have any celebrity doppelgangers? I just watched Martin Scorsese's The Last Waltz and Hanson is a dead ringer for Levon Helm.

Dusty Beaman

What's a game that's widely loved but you don't? For me, it's Breath of the Wild. I fell off 3 separate times and due to this I haven't even bothered to try Tears of the Kingdom

Devin Atlee-Nutts

Hey MinnMaxers, Back in the day, I played so much Guitar Hero: World Tour that I developed some pretty gnarly blisters, and I'm sure the collision of the VR world and the real world has resulted in some very physical collisions between players and their surroundings in recent years. My question to y'all is: Have you ever had a gaming-related injury? Cheers, Tom

Joe Kafchinski

I'm a huge fan of the theorycrafting explosion that seems to have taken over pop culture since Wandavision. But every once in awhile, I get this little voice in my head telling me that all I'm trying to do is guess what someone else is thinking before they tell me. I love speculating on what role Jesse Faden may have in the Alan Wake 2 DLC, but at the end of the day, her role will be whatever Sam Lake decides it will be. Feels weird to spend so much energy on it sometimes. I don't really know how to form a question out of this.

Harrison Holt

Hey MinnMax! At the Golden Joysticks this past week, a Streamers Choice award was given out. What was interesting was that in the video reel prior to the award, streamers were talking about how the game helped them create the best live stream content, rather than the quality of the game itself. So I'm curious, if you were to give your own award, to a game that helped you create the best content possible this year, who would it be and why? Cheers, Harrison

Zane Dukes

Why isn’t there a stronger push for unionization in the games industry? What type of advocacy should media provide, and how should consumers ethically support creators in the space? Personally, I feel like a scab buying anything nonunion these days

Chalkfullof

It feels like there’s a lot of similar categories for the game awards, or categories that seem to favor similar types of games. If you could add a new category for the game awards what would it be? (and who would be the nominees this year)

Dan Villone

What's a game you love that most other people don't like? This one should be a lay-up for Leo.

Ari

Hi Ben, You have been killing it with all these great interviews lately. Last year you had Tim Schafer and JoseF Fares discussing game development from their latest titles. What two game directors would you like to have from this year to have a similar kind of chat? Keep up the great work! Ari

Pretty Good Printing

What the hell is wrong with Costco milk jugs? It’s impossible to pour without spilling. Am I doing something wrong?

Daniel Doran

Maybe it was just the wrong crowd to talk about a Zelda movie last week...but I'm pretty sure I made the show worse by asking about it. Sorry! So, how often do you find yourself apologizing for things that don't really matter? ;)

Michael Baker

What is your favorite reality television program to watch in 2023? Streamers count!

Hieronymus Josh

In the dystopian future, where an underfunded and neglected American educational system has forced teachers into jobs where they can actually make a living, and parents and their children are forced to find education on their own, what games do you pick to complete a child's ciriculum of science, math, social studies, physical education and language arts?

notweirder

Hey Minnmaftermath! People seem to be focusing a lot on what game has the best story, the best combat, best art style, but they're all missing something important: what game from this year has the best name?

Joe Dean

I just moved because my apartment complex is a nightmare. What are some of your terrible, bizarre, and funny apartment/landlord stories?

b_wood

TLDR: What is the media's and the public's perception of Geoff Keighly? On Party Chat this week, Ben asked if anyone was a big fan of Geoff Keighley and this has me thinking what people think of Geoff. Aren't Geoff's biggest fans in games media like Easy Allies, Kinda Funny, and even IGN? Does Geoff get blamed too much? Some of the criticism is valid, but much of it is misguided. For example, people criticize Geoff for Destiny 2 being nominated for Best Community Support when the media outlets are the ones making that decision. What are your thoughts on Geoff Keighly and how do you think he is perceived by others? What legacy (good or bad) has he built so far? What are your thoughts on The Game Awards?

Patrick Hughes

Ahoy good folks of MinnMax! I know many (myself included) would have preferred an animated approach to a Zelda movie if a Zelda movie were to be made at all, but when life gives you lemons...what would you do to make the most of a live action Zelda movie? I'm thinking practical effects, like muppet-puppetry monsters (think Little Shop of Horrors or Never Ending Story). How cool would that be? Trying to get in the head space of Nintendo considering the Mario movie was essentially the world's biggest advertisement for Nintendo World theme park, I expect Nintendo opted for live action as it'd be easier to adapt one-to-one for expanding their theme park.

KaijuWill

The recent news on the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection has made me think back to when I met Hideo Kojima and the surprising thing he asked me. MGS 3 is my favorite game of all time, and so when Death Stranding was about to release and I heard the news that Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa would be coming to my local GameStop and signing new copies for fans, I was stoked! That morning, I put on my MGS Fox shirt and made my way to the store. By the time I got to the door, I was relieved that I had just made it, with only a few people behind me who made the cut. At the door, his security detail informed me that I was not to speak to Kojima, and that they would take the thing I wanted signed, they would hand it to Kojima and Shinkawa for signing, and he would then return the item. As soon as I saw both of them signing it, I knew I would probably never get another chance to say something to them about how much MGS means to me, so I was bold and said: "domo arigato, Kojima-san." It was at this point that he looked up and noticed that I was wearing an MGS shirt. He then pointed at me to approach them at their table. I was so nervous as I walked up, as this was the living legend himself. But then, I was soooo surprised when he asked me: "Do you know how this whole thing operates?"

RabidLime

what's the best dessert?

RabidLime

what's an idea that should've been a game by now but amazingly hasn't? why has there never been a GTA-like open world game that takes place in the 70's with a real groovy wok-a-chik-a soundtrack? imagine boosting a car and outrunning the cops with this playing in the background: https://youtu.be/ydaPK3GXkqU?si=2i-xP9Fx13vFQu9N

Is a two-star game twice as good as a one-star game?

Luca Alberti

Hello MinnMaxers and guests. Let's be real, nobody cares all that much about TGA for the awards, what is your dream announcement (excluding GTA)? Personally I would flip for a Remake of Kid Icarus Uprising or the return of MegaMan Legends 3.

James Pies

For the special guests: How close were you to actually naming the site Afterlife but changed course once you realized it would share a name with the bar on Omega in Mass Effect 2? Best of luck on the new endeavor!

Tokyo Game Life

Super Mario RPG is what I would call an “emulator classic” aka a game most people likely played through an emulator instead of on original hardware. What other games would you consider to be emulator classics?

Ravelle

Hey all! You know those puzzles in which rooms/area's are randomized depending which direction you go? A bunch of games seem to do them these days. Does this puzzle have a name and is Links Awakening the first to do so? I'm curious! Keep up the fantasic work ~ Vincent. K.

Hunter Sax

It's come up before, the idea of very strange coincidences or uncanny similarities. My roommates name is Sabrina, she keeps witch paraphernalia around the house, runes, etc. One of her cats is completely black, named Salem. We played Hi-fi rush earlier this year, because the other cat, Chai Latte. We both have Masterchief tattoos. I'm pretty sure they're a figment of my imagination, but we'll take it. Ever know someone that's just walking reference?

Seabass

Congrats! You are now in charge of Nintendo. What are the first three actions you take in this new role?

Cody Allison

Hello minnmax! after 3 years of full remote work i will have to return to a typical office setting in January. I need lots and lots of podcasts i can listen to. What are your favorite podcasts that don't age and have lots of content?

Jason Wojnar

So I have just started filming myself for videos I want to start making. How do you stop yourself from going "uhhhh" all the time. Do you just get better at talking on camera as you do it? Do you just edit out the long and notable ones?

JT

Hello Janet and the gang, Let's play a game where we start with the most recent year and take turns naming a different game released in that year, then we go back a year and do the same and just keep going. If you can't name a game or get it wrong, you're out. The last person remaining wins. Chat can be the fact checker. You can also make the game harder by starting at 2013 or some other older year.

Mackenzie

Hello, new Patron here, all the way from Halifax, like Haley! Leo often stands at his computer while podcasting. For the other guests, what do you do that might be your "signature move" when joining MinnMax? This could obviously be for any reason, including for comfort, to keep your attention, just out of habit, or because you're a fitness god like Leo.

Marquis Johnson

I hope you guys discuss the Rocksteady Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League video

Jeorin

Hello MinnMax and friends! Heavy question this week: If you have a problem that impacts your life, but it isn't something you have the power to fix, how do you deal with it?
