What’s your favorite game you played on thanksgiving break? Mine is Red Dead redemption when my friends keep telling me to play it.

Travis in Fargo

You have access to a pocket dimension that you can enter any time and for however long you want. While in this dimension, time outside of it stands still, although you still age and function as usual while inside of it. How and when would you use this pocket dimension?

Mike Lynch

Have you had a surprising moment in your career? An opportunity, chance encounter, etc, that you never planned for but became a positive thing for you?

Travis in Fargo

They say “never meet your heroes” - presumably because you’ll be disappointed. Have you ever met someone you admire and were pleasantly surprised?

Ray Sweat

What are some of the most fun games you played this year that no one is talking about, or ever heard of? It's a few years old, but I bought Hammerwatch on Switch and it's basically the greatest game ever. Yet no one I know has ever heard of it and will probably never try it.

Steve Bellegarde

After you finally finish a big game (For me it was Baldur’s Gate 3). Do you ever feel like a “Gaming Hangover”? Meaning that you can’t really get into anything else for a few days and kinda just dabble in some things for awhile?

Blazingscourge

What’s your go to dish to bring for holiday dinners/parties?

Thom Blackburn

What game has the best use of no-HUD? I loved the Getaway indicating your health by the blood on your shirt and giving you directions on your turn signals.

Malcolm Holliday

If you had to have a wacky wrestling gimmick/persona what would it be?

Brian W

Why do you think audio gets called out in the game awards but no other discipline? Where’s the best animation award? Best character art award? Fx? Have audio teams done better PR to press outlets?

WeGoGiant

Hey, MinnMax. What's your favorite musical? I've been on a Stephen Sondheim kick lately and while the 2014 Disney adaptation of Into The Woods wasn't that great, the original Broadway cast production was wonderful.

Dan from Canada

What game/movie/podcast etc would have changed your life if you had experienced it when you were younger instead of as an adult?

Zae

Hey Minnmax, what’s your guilty pleasure/pleasures? Not something literally that makes you feel guilty doing. What do you go back to often? I know so many games come out but I put hundreds of hours into Call of Duty multiplayer because it is so simple, and mindless it’s an easy way to kill time (no missed joke opportunities here) without getting invested in a story. Also I love watching movies and tv that breaks my heart and the characters in the movies hearts as well. What do you go back to constantly just because it’s easy for you to go back to? Thanks and have a good holiday!!

LlorchDurden

On the topic of Ben being the best interviewer of the gaming industry, what other nicknames can you come up to with? What's conveys Ben's the Geoff Keighley of interviews? Quality being noClip level of *good*... Etc?

Kaizoku Risu

Has procrastinating ever unexpectedly worked in your favor?

How do I know when I should shave my beard?

BeatenDownBrian

Sim-racing games kinda go into a separate category in my mind from other games. For context, my two biggest passions are games and motorsport. I got into both at a young age, and in the PS One era, they crossed over for the first time. As both the games and wheel tech improved over the years, there was a point where they became as much a training tool as they were games. When I got older and got more responsibilities, motorsport had to take a back seat, and at that point, what these games were to me changed again. They became something that keeps me connected to something I loved so much and very much miss participating in. My question/questions to you all is are there any genre, or games that just occupy a different space in your head from other games, and why? Or, are there any games that help you stay connected to some aspect of your life that you miss? (Also congrats to Danny and the team on the Doc! Shoutout from Carlow.) BeatenDownBrian

What are your thanksgiving plans? Does Danny celebrate? If not, is he jealous?

Victor Pham

How do you feel about Kazuma Kiryu's new English voice actor?

Andres

I had a dream where I went back to school for some reason and Ben was the professor and he encouraged the class to bully me until I dropped out. Question one: What patreon tier is this and how do I unsubscribe? Question two: Isn't the Internet weird that I can have a bizarre dream about someone that doesn't know I exist and then tell them about it still?

Sam Worms

Would you want to eat as much as you want and never gain weight, but it meant food didn't taste like anything?

Dusty Beaman

What food could you not eat cold? I take tons of stuff for work lunch like pizza, wings, etc and eat them cold.

Kraven Morcome

Hey MinnMax, In honor of Thanksgiving, how many Turkeys could you take out in hand to hand combat before eventually being overwhelmed? You will face off against 3 turkeys at all times, when one is eliminated another will enter the arena to immediately take its place. There are no weapons. If you eliminate 25 turkeys you will be given a 10 minute breather to catch your breath and prepare.

As we get to GOTY season, there's a lot of chatter about 2023 being a phenomenal year for games--perhaps the best ever. Whether it's the critical consensus or not, what is your personal favorite year for games? Until this year I would've said 2017, both because of the releases (Breath of the Wild, Horizon Zero Dawn, Night in the Woods, SteamWorld Dig 2, Sexy Brutale were all personal favorites) and because I loved watching that iteration of Giant Bomb. However, I think there were enough major hits for me in this year (including my new all-time favorite, Baldur's Gate 3) to finally top that line-up.

Christopher C. Castillo

Howdy, MinnMax! A game I hope doesn't get overlooked this year is The Invincible by Starward Industries. It's this great science fiction adventure (walking sim) based on a 1964 novel. It has some of the best atompunk visuals I've ever seen and the story was surprisingly gripping, for me at least. IGN reviewed it on a broken PC, deleted their video review, and modified the written review to acknowledge the error on their end, however they didn't update the score. I'm afraid folks will be dissuaded by the low score which the video review implied heavily had to do with the broken graphics. Have any of you checked out The Invincible? Thanks and happy Thanksgiving! Christopher C. Castillo

"It's time for MinnMax, MinnMax Show/ It's time for MinnMax/ Fun with Ben and Friends...!" What lyrics do YOU put to the MinnMax theme song?

Aging_Poorly

Hi team and welcome, Danny. Ireland is sorely underrepresented as a video game setting. Danny, what would be the ideal video game set in Ireland that would take advantage of the culture - either historical or present day? (And Hanson, Kyle, Jacob - have you been to Ireland? Recommend it?)

Mathias Jülich

Hey there! Business idea: steal popular games’ titles for audience awareness. Of course, our legal department says we can’t do that. So we just shuffle the words a little bit. But now we need your help: which of the following games has the most potential? What kind of game should it be? Who develops it? - War of Worldcrafting - Duty of Calls - Dragon Inquisition: Age - Breath of Zelda: Legend of the Wild - War of Gears Tschüss from Berlin

HoneyBoy

repost: sup Ben and fam, just finished Spiderman great game but while messing with the options…I noticed that motion blur is active, and im sitting here thinking, who leaves motion blur on? and why does every game have the option set as active cause from my understanding is NO ONE plays with motion blur. Do you leave motion blur on? thanks ben/everyone.

claudio

Hey MinnMax Half-life and other PC games at the time spawned a number of stand alone games based off of mods players made for the original game. Counter strike originally started off as a half-life mod, for example. What were your most played games which were initially made as mods? For me it was Day of Defeat (half-life) and Half-life 2 capture the flag. Thanks

Rikimaru

Hey, MinnMax! I realized that I do some pretty weird things to be efficient. Sometimes I like to fall asleep to Twitch streams, but I can't lock my phone without the app pausing the stream. Then I discovered that when I'm using Pokemon Sleep, it blacks out the screen without pausing when I put my phone flat. What's a weird thing or workaround you do to be efficient?

PoorAndCurly

Hey MinnMax, What's the most obscure JRPG you can think of off the top of your head? I'll go first: Resonance of Fate.

Hello Mmiinmmaaxx crew (flipping the doubled letters here), I’m a history professor specializing in the Middle Ages, and I bet it wouldn’t surprise you to know that many of my fellow historians are big fans of the Age of Empires franchise. In fact, Age of Empires forms part of my historian origin story. My uncle introduced me to Age of Empires 1 when my family flew across the country to visit him in the late 90s, and I credit my experience with the game as the genuine origin of my love of history. And I’m not alone in this. Nine times out of ten, I will assume correctly that a fellow millennial historian specializing in very old topics (sorry US historians) that Age of Empires was a big part of their childhoods. So here’s the question: what video games today can you imagine being the source of inspiration for today’s youth? Will there be astrophysicists crediting their careers to Starfield and No Man’s Sky? What games have the potential to shape people in significant ways?

Rainy McDowell

Hey MinnMax, After the release of Tears of the Kingdom, it felt like there was a near unanimous sentiment of "Oh, this is absolutely the Game of the Year. No doubt." Tears felt like a sure thing until shortly after the release of Baldur's Gate 3 when the tides began to shift. With the Keighley's fast approaching, it sounds more and more like people predict that Baldur's Gate 3 will be declared the GOTY. My question: Can you remember another time where a game came out that felt like the obvious frontrunner for game of the year but an unexpected challenger arose and began to look like the new frontrunner? A followup question: Do you think things would look different if Baldur's came out earlier in the year and Tears was more recent?

MyNameIsDan

I'm thankful for the new Half-Life documentary. If I am going to waste HALF-MY-LIFE hoping for a sequel, at least I've got ways to enjoy the past. Oops, I think I submitted this in the wrong place! Happy Thanksgiving!

BEEFCAKE

Do you think that considering so many people are getting laid off from these big game companies it will lead to a big indie boom in the next few years? I’ll take my answer on the air .

Luis Pérez

Hey CLC's and Danny! There's been a phenomenal increase in the amount of documentaries and "playable museums" (i.e. Atari 50, the Making of Karateka) around the videogame industry. Question here is: What's your dream game documentary subject and/or dream playable museum? Mine would be either a museum (or mausoleum) to Superman 64 or a detailed journey into the making of Chrono Trigger. All the best!

BobaFets

Is DLC eligible for the MinnMax two 10’s? I’m playing Phantom Liberty in size and scope it’s fairly large and it’s one of the best experiences I’ve had this year but not sure if it would qualify as a proper full game.

RabidLime

hello Mr O'Dwyer and friends. question: how can i stop actually min/maxing in games? save scumming is so tempting i'll end up doing a really small section of a game over and over until i get it flawlessly (i.e. even *in-between* individual waves of Combine during the Nova Prospect turret defense in HL²). it almost always turns into a grindy slog and lessens my fun with the game. BUT! getting to a big bad under-leveled is the worst. so, how can i kick this bad habit?

RabidLime

Danny Question/Hypothetical: you're being a ridiculous amount of money to do a feature length documentary on a game/subject you *absolutely loathe*. what's the game? and how much money would it take?

SlyCut

Hello all, When going over The Game Awards nominations, y'all said you didn't know what Synapse was. Ben, being a big Metal Gear fan, I thought you might have heard of this PSVR2 exclusive because the two main characters are voiced by David Hayter and Jennifer Hale. Synapse is easily the best VR game I've ever played. Being able to change the target of your telekinesis just with your eyes is such a game changer. Everything is so fluid, the progression is great, and I was surprisingly very invested in the story, mostly thanks to the top notch voice work. Synapse is not one to miss. And as a side note; I recently finished Sea of Stars and noticed that Tim Turi is in the credits! "Thanks to our partners at Sony PlayStation" and he is listed. Very cool.

Boondock-Bandit

Happy holidays MinnMax crew and guests! What’s the longest connected name you can think of? “Al Gore Verbinksi” is the example and one I’m thinking of for some reason. Only rule is that it should at least be someone mildly famous. Aaaand go!

Actual jeff bezos

In Haley's Alan Wake 2 playthrough, she mentions that she'd like to learn how to play the drums. Since Jacob and Ben are doing piano/keyboard, it seems like there's the beginnings of a minnmax band. What else is everyone playing? Who's doing vocals? What's the genre?

thejjuan1

Hi Minnmax. So I've been playing the Super Mario RPG remake and been enjoying my time with it as someone who has not played this game before. Many fans saying it’s very faithful to the original. But another “remake” came out on Nov 17. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. I love it as a fan of the comics, movie and game. BUT this show was not a retelling of those. Instead it does the FF7 remake or evangelion rebuild movies root, where it’s more a sequel to the original source material. And change up the story. I personally love this, because it not only gets new content from fans. But you also get the sense it’s a way of therapy for the creator. Bryan Lee O’Malley. Parts of his life affected him greatly and this story and in ways grew him to be better not only for him, but his characters. But the problem with this kind of remakes is that it's hard to recommend because new fans might be lost. Unlike the mario rpg remake which I can recommend to new fans.So this leads to the question what kind of remakes you prefer? The more faithful ones or these “remake” sequels?

icu.one Cult of the Month

What games would you suggest these holidays to play with family and friends that are “Outside of Gaming” that would help promote future gaming together?

Daniel Doran

Danny O’Dwyer!? Heck yeah! So is Danny O’Dwyer a business genius or what? How did he go from crowd supported to working on documentaries for valve and special videos for A16Z? Would he chalk it up to diligence? Was it a function of critical team members being able to market themselves for bigger projects? Give us a peak behind the scenes! 🙏🏻🤞🏻

Phelix Diaz

If you could respec yourself? How would you redistribute your current skill points? You determine what your current skills are and they don't have to adhere to specific DnD skills.

thewholehamdamily

Aliens have attacked and captured you. They allow you to bring one CD and one movie to your new space prison. What are you bringing?

Joshua

Hi Everyone, It feels glaringly obvious the game awards needs a puzzle/adventure category and lesser extent party game. If you could make up the categories what would they be and how would you solve the confusion in where games should be slotted? Thanks!

Ian

How often are you upside down?

Plastic_Sinatra

Hey All, Recently, I learned that when you ring the bells in Dark Souls, everyone else online can hear a bell ring, which is something I've never noticed before. For a game with such cool online features, I was blown away that there was still more I didn't know. In an increasingly remote world, what are some of your favorite recent unique or obscure multiplayer experiences? Thanks!

Travis in Fargo

Do you have a favorite cup or mug? If so, what do you love about it?

Donnie

Hey friends! Everyone on the panel has done some mix of interviews or research within the world of games. What’s the strangest thing you’ve come across in either situation that still confounds you to this day?

Tonytheswordsman

Can I get a WAZZUP!? What’s the worst job you ever worked ?

Tonytheswordsman

What song do you have stuck in your head today?

Brett N

Playing through Spiderman 2 recently and while it's full of over the top comic book stuff the most unrealistic thing to me is how is Peter/Spiderman still poor and struggling for money? Dose he not know how this whole thing operates? Surely he is smart enough to set up a patreon? A go fund me? Tip jar in the FNSM app?

Bob Buel

Howdy minnxes, Who is your favorite wacky duo in all of video gaming? Banjo and Kazooie? Nana & Popo? Solt & Peppor? You name em!

SenttheProphet

What is your cozy thanksgiving game that you escape too once the thanksgiving dinner conversation gets a bit too heated?

Devin Atlee-Nutts

Hey Minn O'Maxxers, Rear buttons are now common on premium controller like the Playstation Edge controller, Xbox Elite controller, and my first introduction to the idea, the Steam Deck. I mostly forget they are there and I have only ever pressed them accidentally while gripping a little too tight. Have you ever deliberately pressed a rear controller button while playing a game? If so, what do you map them to? Are they worthwhile? Cheers, Tom

SuperCerberus

Have you ever played a great game so much that you almost start to hate it? I find this happening to me when a completionist run is really tedious or frustrating or I just get so familiar with the mechanics that all the small problems start to become more noticeable.

JT

Hello Kyle and the Gang, First, I would just like to say that MinnMax discord community is the best gaming community I have ever seen, they are very respectful and people are always happy to answer any random questions. I'm curious to know which online communities you regularly engage with. Is there a particular community you used to cherish that has undergone changes, making it different or no longer in existence?

Joe Dean

With Geoff Keighley's The Game Awards, TM, coming up it got me thinking about the nomination/voting process. Do you have to nominate/vote on every category? If so how do you guys choose gamer/esports/all the other categories I know you're not invested in. If you don't have to nominate/vote in them have you ever been invested or is there someone you'd like to see nominated?

Azza G

grab your controllers and let's get gaming! I played spiderman 2 this year and hate kraven, found the story dull and the gameplay boring and overall think the game is pretty average. nobody I see really shares my sentiment and then I see Game of the year nominations. so my question is have you ever felt totally disconnected with a Games reception. not just cool on a game or 'that isn't for me' but completely 'I genuinely don't know how some people think this game is blank' it's a little pissy a discussion but an interesting one. thanks!

Mackenzie

Games are often played solo, but they can also remind us how important human connection is. What games prompted you to reach out to a friend or family member after a play session? A bit too obvious, but it was Celeste for me. The moment when Madelline takes a selfie with Theo.

CrabPalace

Name two movies more different to each other than Warioware and The Last Of Us Part 2. Are videogames more varied than movies? If so, is it because the way players interact with the game can vary in addition to the content itself?

Juz10

Hi Minnmax, The final wave of DLC tracks for Mario Kart 8 released earlier this month. After nearly 10 years it seems like Nintendo will finally close the door on Mario Kart 8 and hopefully we can hear news of the next Mario Kart in the near future. What is your overall thoughts on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with everything that has been added such as the new characters and tracks? Bonus question, what do you think releases first, the next Mario Kart, or Grand Theft Auto 6?

Spencer

For me, the NES Mega Man games have always had the ideal difficulty. They are filled with moments that feel impossible, but after a couple tries you are already forming the techniques in your head that will get you past the sticking point with just a little practice. And most importantly, the game is fun while you are failing. What game has the perfect difficulty for you personally?

Kevin Kuper

How do you all handle notes in games, must read everyone? Only the short or highlighted ones, ignore them completely? I'm playing Jusant and loving it but since some of the notes just keep going and are not always worth it but trying to read them all.

Chris Fantry

Happy Thanksgiving Minnmaxers. I still love playing What the Dub?! I recently found out they added Steam Workshop support. If you could add a pack of clips to the game what would you add? I would enjoy a Dragon Ball series themed pack or a collection of bad horror movies.

TheLastArcher

When do you stop your microwave? Do you wait until the word “End” is flashing on the display and the obnoxious beeping starts? Or, are those last 3-5 seconds completely optional?

Vilis

Happy ThannxGiving! On the subject of games of this year not to miss: Tchia. If you are feeling stressed this holiday season, just grab this one and feel your stress viscerally melt away. That was experience at least. Also great if you have youngsters visiting and you want to expose them to the concept of Indy games. Show me a kid who doesn't want to turn into birds, dolphins, dogs, coconuts, etc. Just set them in the open world portion and they'll have fun for hours.

WavingWorld

Hello Minnmax! (And Danny) I was listening to some older episodes and I had to point out something wild I noticed from Kyle. (MAJOR SPOILERS for Returnal ahead). On the Minnmax episode from April 14, 2021 Kyle responds to Jeorin's community question by saying, "... it's a video game idea that not enough people have dug into, where it contextualizes why you're dying and coming back to life. When you finally beat the game, the planned ending was gonna show you aging, getting older, having a life, and dying. And when you die you come back to life and realize that you're still stuck in that world." Lo and behold, that very same year Returnal came out and had this EXACT premise at it's ending. As far as I can tell no one after the fact mentioned how Kyle basically predicted the ending of Returnal and I HAD to make this known to the world.

BlakJak

Hey Danny, great job on the Half-Life doc! I'm wondering what everyone thinks about Valve's commitment to video game history preservation? They seem passionate about their roots, and everything they did to celebrate Half-Life's 25th anniversary is certainly impressive. But, they also made it significantly more difficult for consumers to find and own the original version of Half-Life. .

Jason Wojnar

On Tuesday afternoon in broad daylight got mugged at knife point. Guy got caught less than a minute later (because, you know, broad daylight in a country at War so there are more cops than usual around in general). Anyway, ever been mugged or gotten something stolen from you? I only lost my headphones because after I told him I didn't have anything he was like "do you have headphones? just give me your headphones and I will go"

Luca Alberti

Hello crew and Danny! How do you feel about The Game Awards' rappresentativity of the industry? I think certain genres like Metroidvania, Platformers and Puzzle games are cut short because of how the categories are structured, for example, there's no category for Mario Wonder to win to recognize it's best at what it does, and without a strong IP you hardly ever see these games nominated outside the Indie category. What can we do to recognize more diverse games?

Machine Gun Keeley

Hey Minmaxx, On the podcast several weeks ago Kelsey Lewin mentioned that the currency in Star Ocean is called "Fol". That begs the question, what is the best and worst currency names in games? I'm partial to "Gil" from Final Fantasy and i think Simoleans is up for nomination in either category. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Also, Ben, I wanted to share quick anecdote since i've heard you mention before that you find it strange when people listen to podcast episodes multiple times. Since i was a kid i've found it comforting to listen to something familiar as i fall asleep. For a long time it was the old British show Red Dwarf and then Futurama. But for years it's been the GI Show and now Minnmax. I've probably listed to the entire library at least 3 or more times. Am i a freak? Thanks for the great content!
