While they were driving to Minnesota's largest candy store for New Show Plus (you can watch that adventure here) MinnMax's Leo Vader and the creative director of Giant BombDan Ryckert recorded a bonus podcast just for you. In this candid conversation, Leo and Dan talk about self-improvement, the occasional stress from online communities, and comparing and contrasting Giant Bomb's Game of the Year debates to MinnMax's The Two Tens. By the way, if you're in LA you can watch Giant Bomb's game of the year debate live on Saturday, December 9th by buying a ticket here - https://www.ticketmaster.com/giant-bomb-los-angeles-california-12-09-2023/event/09005F6FEAF94234

We hope you enjoy the bonus secret podcast with Dan and Leo, we apologize that audio quality from a car isn't exactly studio-quality. Thanks for supporting MinnMax!

I want both Leo and Dan to know that they’re not alone in their dislike of the new God of War games! Parenthood can be such a cheap emotional shortcut, and it thematically undercuts so many potential genuine moments of growth in those games. I also feel like the sentiment that Kratos was never a nuanced character in the older titles shows a distinct lack of critical media analysis; the older titles were crass and of their time in many ways, but Kratos has always been so much more than the toxic muscle head that he’s often referred to as post the 2018 game. The original series was already largely about parenthood and the trauma of loss, and I feel like the newer games are lesser as a result of basically retconning all of that. Ragnarok has a few moments where they touch on Kratos and his history, but not to the extent that is deserved imo.

I could listen to a whole series of these two (or anyone on MinnMax really) shooting the shit. Great stuff!

currently listening to this while playing Mario Golf. I feel seen. I hadn't though about using as a crutch to shut out thoughts.

I am so glad to finally hear someone talk about how blasé god of war Ragnarok is

Amazing bonus content! I appreciate how real and honest the conversation was, it's quite refreshing. The point about putting in a little effort each day towards something resonates a lot with me and recent struggles with motivation.
