This is it. It's time for the grand finale for MinnMax's Game of the Year debate, which we call The Two Tens. Ben Hanson is joined by Leo Vader, Janet Garcia, Jacob Geller, Kyle Hilliard, Kelsey Lewin, Jeff Marchiafava, Haley MacLean, and Sarah Podzorski to finalize the correct order for the 20 best games of 2023. Will Baldur's Gate 3 defeat Alan Wake 2? Should The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom be MinnMax's Game of the Year? How much can one person's passion carry a game up the list? Tune in to find out. Thanks for supporting MinnMax on Patreon and making this whole thing possible.

So I took the top 4 of the 8 main contributors, minus Haley because I didn’t see her list, and made a 2 Tens List. If it was #1 on someone’s list it got 4 points, #2 – 3 points, #3 - 2 points, and #4 - 1 point. I still haven’t listened to the final episode, so I’m excited to see how close this list is to their final list. Max list Rank Game Points 1. Zelda: TofK 19 2. Baldur's Gate 11 3. Alan Wake 8 4. Hi-Fi Rush 5 5. RE4 Remake. 4 5. Hitman Freelancer 4 7. Spider-Man 2 3 7. Cities: Skylines 2 3 7. Shadow Gambit 3 Minn list 1. Dave the Diver 2 1. Lies of P 2 1. Sea of Stars 2 1. The Cosmic Wheel 2 4. Armored Core 1 4. Dead Space Remake 1 4. Karateka 1 4. Octopath 2 1 4. Starfield. 1 4. Tchia. 1 4. Xenoblade 3. 1

during the Alan Wake 2 discussion I wanted Jacob to repeat what he said in his video where he picked it as his #1 game of the year- The thing about rating games by starting at 10 and subtracting points for each criticism vs. rating games by starting at 0 and adding points for every moment that delights you. I think that's a great way to think about it.

Nathaniel

One thing's for sure- I've never played Hitman before, but Leo convinced me to try. I'm actually excited about it. I hope I like it as much as it sounds like I will

The moment Ben said that that they should focus on what they wanted the list to be to represent MinnMax instead of worrying about the people they think they’ll make update made me happy cry bit. This group represents the best of us :,)

Really love all of Minnmax’s goty stuff and just wanted to say this might be my favorite episode of Minnmax that I’ve listened to. The entire debate felt very positive and celebratory and from my perspective as a listener the final rankings seem perfectly representative of everyone’s passions. Leo’s enthusiasm for hitman freelancer had me putting hitman on my wishlist! Shout out to everyone for keeping the energy up over such a long episode and thanks for all the work you do :)

Jason Richards

Really good podcast and thanks everyone for the content. But go easy on poor Ben.

I listen to most all of the GotY streams out there & this has been the best of the year. Lots of really fantastic discussion, especially around the top 4. Genuinely, you all should be very proud of how these convos went. BG3 is my #1 - but Leo’s speech had me reconsidering the amazing 80ish hours I had in Freelancer & the fantastic emergent gameplay it produces on if I should reconsider.

Andrè Elneff Paulsen

First and foremost i think all 9 of you deserve Kudos and a pat on the back, for getting through the 2 10s and keeping things so civil! You guys make it look easy to be decent to each other, good job. Other then that, i think Leo's passion for Hitman freelancer, honestly makes me want to, at least give the base game a decent try.

Brian Lyness

The best GOTY debate (& pieces of content in general) that Minnmax has ever put out. Leo's stories about his emergent gameplay in Hitman Freelancer floored me, I'll happily give the game a go after hearing those + his passionate speech. Janet's speech about BG3 has me really excited to try it after not gelling with Divinity Original Sin. Hayley saying the side quests are so much better than The Witcher 3's just seems unfathomable but that sentence alone has given me a huge reason to try it (once the inevitable enhanced edition comes out). Looking forward to 2024 & beyond. Bravo folks 👏

First time listening to their GOTY. I have to say. I enjoyed the content, and the flavor. It wasn't too big, wasn't too small. Had just enough spice. I think the formula was a win :-)
