What video game is begging to be made into a Broadway musical?

SuperThisWay

What’s the fun group chat topic to argue about? My friends and I are from Chicago so we argue about pizza places randomly and sometimes it gets heated but it’s fun

Clarke Foster

What vegetable do you identify the most with, and why?

NonBinaryBomb

Hi Huber & co! I've always appreciated the relationship MinnMax & Easy Allies share, as it's actually through the Allies that I first found MinnMax! What's something you feel like both channels have learned from each other's success?

Stevelution

There has been plenty of discussion on how ‘necessary’ or justified the TLOUP2 Remaster was. What I want to know is, what’s the dumbest remaster/remake that you really want to see?

Sebastian Apolinario

Hearing Ben so excited about the TLOU2 Director's commentary track for the remaster made me think: 'Which game would you like to replay with a full director, actor, and/or developer's commentary?'

Victor Pham

Is it fair to criticize a piece of media for existing if you personally have burnout, even if other people are still enjoying it?

Jeremy Farbman

I'm very excited about Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. However, there's been a hubbub in the community about Sega's decision to lock new game plus behind expensive DLC. It's not a feature I use for long RPGs, but new game plus is a fan favorite and this move is shortsighted to say the least. Can you think of any other games that put "essential features" behind a paywall- and did you cave?

Landon Carter

If you were given the chance to be the main character of a Like A Dragon substory, what wacky antics would you be up to, and what heartfelt life lesson would you teach at the end of your substory?

PoorAndCurly

Hey gang, What's the best single thing you can put on a piece of toast?

Richard Kirk

So I bought a Japanese Sega Saturn on a whim a few weeks ago. Its seen about 15 minutes of use since but every time I walk by it, I'm very happy to see it on my entertainment center. What is your favorite impulse purchase that you know was a mistake?

Tokyo Game Life

Another Code Recollection, a remake of the two original games, came out a few days ago on Switch. Instead of having two individual games you select from the menu, it’s now merged into one continuous adventure. Is there another franchise that could benefit from merging the entire franchise into one singular narrative?

Kraven Morcome

Hey MinnMax, In 2021 I ended up falling off of Yakuza Like a Dragon just before the midpoint of the game. I decided this last weekend to jump back in and finish it but was nervous that I would have to start over due to it being so long since I played. Luckily I found an option in the menu called "Summary" that recaps the entire story up to the point you are now. After a couple random encounters I felt like I had never stopped playing. Do you think this should be a standard feature in all games? I think in Jrpgs it is a must.

Travis in Fargo

Is there any chance the Suicide Squad game will be amazing? What if everything they’ve shown of it so far was a ploy to set people’s expectations basement-in-hell-level low, only to release the best looter shooter ever made?

Cody Allison

Video games like Yakuza have a reputation of being perhaps too long. But what's a video game that's too short in your opinion?

The Canipa Effect

Which people have you met in real life do you think would make the best Sujimon?

Chad Beezy

If you could distill video games into a recognizable scent which game would smell best or worst? What would your favorite game series smell like?

Bob Buel

Do you feel it in your soul when you are using a computer, you’ve copied something, but haven’t pasted it yet? I was having a discussion with a coworker about this and we both said we have this strange indescribable feeling almost akin to “did I lock the door” or “did I leave the stove on” in the back of our heads anytime we copy something but haven’t pasted it yet. Like our body is reminding us that this info is floating in the ether and needs to be pasted.

thejjuan1

Hello minnmax crew. Have you seen the new live action trailer for Persona 3 Reload?! Just Aidan Gallagher running in place in front of a green screen, with the game playing in the background. It is truly awful. Any other live action trailers from other games you can think of being as bad as that trailer? Or any good ones you can think of? Top one for me was the Halo 3 ODST live action trailer.

Jonas Schlotterbeck

Huber and his hype for RE7/the series in general got me to try the series back in 2017 and I immediately fell in love. I have since played through all the mainline Resident Evil games and after finally catching up in 2021, I decided I should keep playing through franchises I missed out on when I was younger. I decided to next play through Kingdom Hearts and after beating KH3 last Fall, I am finally ready for a new franchise run. My eye is currently on MGS, Zelda (never been my jam but want to try non Switch era) , or Silent Hill but would love to hear everyone's pitch.

Thom Blackburn

Hi minnmax folks! Is it better to have a game series stick with the same director/creative lead, or to change them up every game? Thanks!

Catpurrnicus

I've been thinking about how bloatware has dropped the prices of PCs, TVs and tablets, and it made me think what else would I accept to get a cheap deal. Would you drive a car with a brand all over it like a Nascar for a 50% discount? And what brands would you want a bigger discount to rep? What brands are off limits? Im guessing you wouldn't want to be known as the person in Preparation H mobile.

Anthony Russo

What is your favorite game that you don't want to replay because you want to protect your memories of playing the game when it first came out/when you first played it. For example, one of my favorite games growing up was The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and I haven't gone back to play it since I originally played it on the 360 because I don't think it'll live up to the highs of how I remember it.

Matthew Porter

I was listening to The Rewatchables podcast and they were talking about their ‘try again’ movies - the movies that didn’t quite reach their potential, that should be so much better, so maybe they try again with the same cast, director, budget, and give it another shot. What is your ‘try again’ video game? Mine is The Order: 1886. It has the ingredients for a great game, let’s try one more time and give it a do over.

Sam Kennedy

If you could send one game console back in time to be the new blueprint for all other game consoles, what would you choose and why?

Brainfreeze

For those that played The Last of Us Part 2's new Rouge-like mode, do you feel any dissonance playing goofy, arcadey encounters in a game that otherwise uses its violence and gore to make the player uncomfortable as part of its core message? I feel like, personally, I'd have trouble getting into a mode like that without any contextual justification. God of War's Valhalla DLC seemed like a more honest continuation of what its main game was all about.

Aaron Williams

If you were to find yourself in a “Like a Dragon” style fight against a gang of bare-chested Yakuza thugs. Which member of the MinnMax crew would you summon to help you in combat, and what would their signature finishing move entail?

Bon Jon Bovi

I have a friend whose name is Ada Wong. Has anything in your real life ever coincidentally lined up with a game you like?

Peter Bode

With the resurgence of third-person survival horror, the 2023 success of RE4 remake, and Alone in the Dark releasing this year... Is it time to remake the Resident Evil 1 remake in third person?

Trent Weber

As fans of The Oregon Trail, maybe I should have reached out to MinnMax instead of one of my many hospital visits. I had Typhoid Fever a couple of months ago and almost died from it due to several misdiagnosis. An infectious disease doctor had to be called in before they figured it out. (I'm all better now) I, like everyone I've talked to since, only knew about Typhoid Fever from The Oregon Trail and thought it didn't exist anymore. Are there any things that you thought only existed in video games but turned out to be real?

Brian W

Hey, I keep seeing these articles whenever a new game comes out, “The 5 things you need to know before playing….” Or “starters guide to playing…” What happened to gamers that they feel this need to make sure they are doing something right rather than just discovering a game on their own?

Nate Voris

Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth seems to be an official "passing of the baton" between the previous lead Kiryu and the new(ish) lead Ichiban. This type of franchise transition is pretty common in movies/tv shows but can you think of any other games that do this? (Spider Man 2 maybe?) Are there any other game series that would benefit from this type of protagonist transition?

SlyCut

What is your favorite Jackbox game?

Crayter

Do you have any games you played in the school computer labs as kids that are burned into your memories and yet you can't remember what they're called? For me there was some barely 3D dinosaur-based first person shooter, and a black and white shuffleboard game. Couldn't tell you anything about them other than that, but I recall that I played them a ton. How about you?

Andrew Burnes

What percentage of positive video game reviews end with some variation of "I look forward to playing more of this in the weeks to come" and what what percentage of those reviewers do you think actually do play more?

Rikimaru

Hiya MinnMax! One of the underrated additions to The Last of Us Part II Remastered is the ability to switch to a mirror mode for all areas of the game. I first played through Twilight Princess on Gamecube with the guide for the Wii version, where everything is flipped for Link to be right-handed. I remember it being a really fun brain exercise of translating everything I was seeing in the guide to be mirrored. After that, I imagined how the next few games I played would look and feel from that perspective. What is a game each of you would enjoy playing or revisiting with a mirror mode?

Boogie

What's a game series that you'd like to see or expect to get it's own "Palworld" as it were?

Aging_Poorly

Hi Ben 'n friends, Just finished Tchia and liked it a lot, but was shocked to see the Metacritic score. Other than Watch Dogs: Legion, Bravely Default 2, Days Gone, and games that were very buggy upon release, Tchia has the lowest Metacritic score of any game that has made the Two Tens in Minnmax’s history, with a 77. What gives? Do you think the critics got something very wrong (and if so, what did they miss?) – or do you think there’s something Minnmax values more than other critics/outlets?

SuperCerberus

The recent conversation around The Last of Us multiplayer game made me think: does anyone else miss the days of “tacked-on” multiplayer modes? Developers using mechanics from the campaign in creative ways to make an online component led to a lot of unexpected gems, even if it felt like an obligation from the publisher in many cases. I had hours of fun playing online in Mass Effect 3, Uncharted 3, God of War Ascension, and The Last of Us back in the day, and there’s really no equivalent to those kinds of cool, bespoke multiplayer modes in AAA games anymore.

Ken H (Kenny2Slice)

How long will it take everyone to stop calling it Like A Dragon and not Yakuza?

Victor Jesus Moreno

What's the best setting for a Like a Dragon game in the vein of Ishin? Kiryu playing JFK? Majima playing FDR? Ichiban in the role of Stalin during Like a Dragon World at War?

CptCobblePot

Geetings Minnmaxers, With 2023 being the best year in gaming, what would a bad year in gaming look like then? How would you occupy your time with a bad year in gaming?

Ariel in Seattle

If I've never played a Yakuza game, or even heard of the series until recently, where is a good place to jump in?

Adam D

With all this talk of Palword ripping off Pokemon what are some good examples where the rip off is better than the original thing it was based off? The most obvious example to me is the Indiana Jones > Tomb Raider > Uncharted loop with each seemingly rip off the other over the years and getting better as we go

Ariel in Seattle

What do you think the next Nintendo console should be called? The sillier the answers the better.

RabidLime

fill in the blank, "ratatouille is to Anton Ego as [blank] is to me"

CrabPalace

I'm about 15 hours into Yakuza Like A Dragon and still didn't get around to starting FF7 Remake. I have no chance of finishing either in time to be up to date for the new entries in the series. What series are you behind on?

Jeremy McPhail

Hey Minnmaxers - I was wondering outside of videogames - what other obsessions that are far removed from gaming? For example - I am into vintage Vespas and skateboarding, but skateboarding isn't removed from videogames anymore.

Fatt Mish

Hi MinnMax friends! What's the most rewarding sound you've ever heard in video games? Thanks. Mars from MN

Christian Jimenez

Hello, Anybody watching the new season of True Detective? About to finish Alan Wake 2, and like how similar they both are with their horror/detective story. Do you think we will see more games try this combo and emulate this formula now that it has become more popular?

Jethrin

With Riot ending its Riotforge publishing arm, what do you think kept these games from gaining any traction? Is it just the League of Legends name? We had great games in multiple genres, developed by great indie studios we all know, but no one seems to talk about them . (Tequila works of Rime fame, Digital Sun who made Moonlighter, Choice Provisions who made the Runner games, and more)

demo_sphere

G'day Minnmax gang, I'm wondering how you guys manage video game burnout? Over the past few years I've been playing less as less games, to the point where last year I only managed to play 5 during the entire year. As I get older I'm finding it harder to tell if a video game is worth my time or not. Huge fan of Minnmax and EZA, I'll never get tired of these podcast crossovers, love & respect!

Johnny.b.ok

Hey minnmax crew, apologies if it was discussed back when the show came out. Have any of the cohorts seen blood dragon remix on Netflix, I’m three months late but loving what I’m seen (2 episodes in). I saw rumours the next far cry would be a full blood dragon game, but honestly I’m more psyched to see a new AC game with bullfrog. Wondering what the crew thought of the show, and if they have any good ideas for a new blood dragon inspired game

Patrick G

Hello everyone. I saw Lily Gladstone (actress for Killer of the Flower Moon) made a post in 2017 about her high school superlative being "Most likely to win an Oscar" she's the favorite this year. So did any of you guys have a senior superlative? If so did you achieve it or was it accurate? If not make up a Minnmax one

Tommy White

Not a question, and maybe this was already mentioned, but I just want to shout out Kelsey Lewin’s appearance on the podcast My Perfect Console last year. It’s definitely my favorite video game podcast besides MinnMax, so it was really great to hear her on there. Go check it out!

wittynicknamehere .

Minnmaxers, It's a stretch to call this a question, I recognize. But watching Haley's joy at playing and introducing new faces to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre game, it is bizarre beyond my ability to articulate it that she has never seen the classic and genuinely lasting film. No clue how you could possibly make non-rights-stricken content out of this, but how can we get Haley to watch this seminal film (on the year it turns FIFTY, no less!)? You can't see me, but I'm on bended knee as I type this.

My go-to favorite snack is a handheld fried egg with a little ketchup on it. Do you have any oddball favorite snacks?

SunniDee22

Hello Cohorts, I preordered FFVII Rebirth at GameStop because the preorder bonus was a FFVII Rebirth trucker hat and that was ridiculous enough for me to preorder it there. So my question is, do you have a memorable or favorite physical preorder bonus you received. Thanks for the show!

Ben Shively

My answer to last week’s question of controversial games in 2024 is Silent Hill 2. Call it now, will it be reviewed well and will the Silent Hill community accept it?

BEEFCAKE

What percentage of people do you think actually sit and listen to records after buying them?

Seabass

Hey there, horts. What sound does a cricket make?

James Pinto

Howdy folks. Haven't written in for a while but thought this might be interesting. During questions you usually mention that what's included was voted on prior to recording. Do you think answers are better when you get time to reflect on them or maybe research your catalog for the niche response. Alternatively is the gut reaction more genuine? I'm curious what your thoughts are or if you could throw a curveball in for science. Thanks as always. Jim Pinto

Michael Archer

What is the most AFK task in the real world?

Phelix Diaz

I have been wanting to play Palworld. Since it's on early access I feel torn between 2 options. Playing it now while everybody develops the community OR when it's finally released on its best version but feel out of touch with it's community. How do the cohorts feel about early access games?

Michael Baker

You find a potion that makes you 20% better in terms of "gamer skill." Would you take this potion, and if so, which tough game would you give another go after you've leveled up?

Kaizoku Risu

What are your favorite ending credit sequences in a game?

Ajay Nath

What game will release with the switch2 and make it an instant must have? I think it will be Mario odyssey 2

Andrew Niesley

Does anyone at MinnMax use lists or apps to keep track of their favorite games throughout the year? I’ve used GameTrack for everything I played during 2023. The rating and ranking systems made it super easy when I wanted to make my top 10 for the year, because I had ordered each game on the master list as I played them.

Seth Filbin

Hello CLCs! Two things: First, Kyle, thank you so much for the recommendation of Scavenger's Reign. That show is every bit as interesting and amazing as you made it sound. Everyone MUST watch it, RIGHT NOW! Second, my family and I are planning on a big move in the next couple years. We currently live in a rural part of Oregon, but are looking closely at Minnesota. I've never been, but it looks beautiful year-round, the cost of living is appealing, and the people seem great. Can I get a few honest pros and cons? So far the most common caution I receive is about the brutal winters but I'd like to know more. Thanks!

Justin Dale

Do you ever take your time on a franchise game you love knowing it will be a while till the next one? I do this a lot and my latest is Final Fantasy 16. I didn’t think Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth would actually be so soon, even if they said it would. I also do this with Zelda games…

Chandler

Hi minnmax I love you You know how some people will play one game for years? Like maybe they get into warframe or path of exile or runescape, and that will be a staple in their life? Do any of you have a game like that? Do you think you'd enjoy playing a game like that maybe if your job didn't demand you to diversify the games you play?

Dusty Beaman

Have you yet jumped out of a cake yet Ben? (Mentioned on minnmax show 5/5/21 at roughly the 1:34:00 mark) If so, please share all the cakey details and discuss tips and tricks for someone else wanting to do it and would you do it again?

CaffeineDad

Hey gang! What pokemon would you trust with a gun?

Isaac Cooper

Sony’s design aesthetic for the ps5 has certainly been divisive, and the slim seems to be universally reviled. Do you think there’s any way the ps5 slim can look good? And what do you want the ps5 pro to look like?

MuskyGoron

Missed Joke Opportunity: Last week Ben said Troy Baker will become all of us, he should have said Troy Baker will become The Last Of Us.

Patrick Hughes

Ahoy MinnMax and friends! How is the genre that is RPG defined today? It used to be games that offered a degree of character customization, skill trees and leveling systems, deep and lengthy narratives with varied party sizes to name a few defining traits. But now almost every game under the sun has a considerable amount of RPG qualities within their DNA. Has the definition of an RPG become too broad to be a useful game genre anymore? Or if such is still able to benefit classification of these games, what are the defining distinctions a game must have to be called an RPG and not just a game with RPG elements?

Spacedentist

I got Super Smash Bros on N64 for Christmas when I was 10. I remember crying when I lost to Ness and failed to unlock him as a character. Has there been a game that has made any of you cry?

Maxwell Fisher

What game would you like to see rereleased wirh dev commentary tracks? Bonus points if you have a specific level/area of a game you’d love to see with this feature.

notweirder

Hey Minnmax! What's the best food and/or drink you've been served at a press event?

Rhett

Kiryu has punched, kicked, and taken down innumerable baddies over the years. Would he be on the Mt. Rushmore of video game characters taking out bad guys? Who else would join him?

HoneyBoy

Sup minnmax and hi mike! how do you handle playing through multiple games? 1.)do you focus on one big game and play little ones in between? or 2.) do you play 2 main games and play micro games on the weekend (the finals, fortnite,COD etc)? or 3.) do you jump around until a game sinks its teeth into you and stick to that one game? lately I’ve been jumping game to game not completing them, plz any advice would help!

RabidLime

what's everyone's favorite apple variety? we can find the serial killer in the group based on whoever answers, "red delicious."

Mathias Jülich

Hey Minnmaxxers, after the somewhat controversial reception of Indiana Jones‘s face for the Great Circle I remembered the first time a video game blew me away with how accurate a celebrity actor was portrayed: it was Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer in 24: The Game on PS2. Do you remember which digital face made you awe the first time (or the most, ever, for that matter)? Have a great 2024! Tschüss from Berlin Mathias

Brody Weller

Hey gang! With the release of Palworld and the success of games like Lies of P, what game or genre would you like to see a fresh (albeit extremely similar) take on? I’d personally love a non-cutesy or gun version of Pikmin! Thanks for all your hard work!

Graham Walker

With discussion of Hellblade 2 last week I wonder what games people feel like give the best representations of mental health? Hellblade does an excellent job depicting voice hearing. For me Celeste is excellent at showing how depression, anxiety and panic attacks can impact on someone.

Tristan

So I just finished Zelda: TOTK after going on a full media blackout to avoid any spoilers, definitely enhanced the experience to discovery everything myself, I'm now making my way through your amazing deepest dive and looking through all the crazy things people have done in the game. This year I also finished 13 Sentinels and Returnal and again had a chance to finally check out all the online content that has been produced over the years (including Jacobs video essay on Returnal and your maxx spoilers - both excellent). Do you guys ever get a chance to go into self-imposed media blackouts and play through a game years later and then enjoy checking out years worth of fan theories, deep dives and essays?

David M

With Prince of Persia pushing a semi-dormant franchise (that ill-fated SoT remake is still in production, I guess) back to its roots, which other major IP would you like to return to its starter phase? Personally would love to see a Kid Icarus reboot in 2D. Feel like there is a ton of potential to modernize there.

Luca Alberti

Hello crew & Huber! This week we saw the announcement of not one but two Sam Barlow games! Most notably Porject D is the first non FMV videogame from Half Mermaid, how do you think they could spin the survival horror genre? Do you think it'll have any similarities to Silent Hill: Shattered Memories since Barlow worked on that game?

LlorchDurden

Palworld proves that if Nintendo ever released an entry of their franchises on Steam it'd get A LOT of traction out of the box. It sounds alien just like Sony doing the exact same thing did sound impossible some years ago. So, When will Nintendo ever release anything on Steam? Will they? Gamepass?

Andrew (PsylockeRules)

Who in the Yakuza/Like a dragon franchise would be a good fit for A smash bros ultimate surprise dlc, if you could pick one? the head of the company never wants his main characters to hit women so no Kiryu or Itchiban punching Rosalina apparently Also fun fact after finding out the Yakuza franchise cannot come to switch because Nintendo are adamant against portraying Yakuza on their systems, me and my partner came up with the nickname YakYak and its stuck, this was before the Like a dragon name change so its a tough habit to stop, even in social circles Love the shows keep up the great work

Lee Adama

Name that achievement! You all are no longer games journalists! You are now product managers at a prominent AAA games publisher, famous for its live-service-battle-royal-rouge-like-FPS/MMO/RPG game: Mine-knight Pals. Your current task is to finish naming the achievement list. Below are the descriptions of the five in-game achievements. Each one must have a clever name that fits its description. To speed up this process, you have come up with the following plan: You will work on one achievement at a time. For each achievement, one of you will act as a judge while the rest of you will come up with a name. The judge will then pick the best name: no questions asked. Good luck! The game's success relies on its appeal to trophy hunters! 1. Achievement A - Description: "Nail the 'noob slayer' badge by surviving 30 straight BR matches without catching an early respawn. Prove you're not just a loot goblin, but a bona fide battle royale juggernaut!" 2. Achievement B - Description: "Stealth your way through the rogue-like dungeon like a ninja on Red Bull. Reach the final boss and lay them out without sipping a single health pot. Show 'em you're not just another dungeon crawler, but a rogue MVP!" 3. Achievement C - Description: "Unleash your inner sniper elite by popping 10 consecutive headshots in a PvP FPS match. Make every shot count and turn your opponents into respawn camp enthusiasts!" 4. Achievement D - Description: "Dive into MMO chaos and be the battleground boss, contributing to the capture or defense of five open-world territories. Become the raid leader your squad deserves!" 5. Achievement E - Description: "Level up your gamer cred by completing 50 RPG quests from every nook and cranny. From dragon-slaying to puzzle-solving, you're not just a player; you're the quest kingpin!"

Mcdoeswell

What would a Palworld theme park experience look like?

Dunder

What’s a childhood movie you have revisited lately that now lands much differently for you as an adult? I recently watched Beethoven with my kids and while most of us remember that lovable St. Bernard tormenting Charles Grodin, a large plot point revolves around the evil veterinarian being paid off by an ammunition company to test exploding bullets on dogs with large skulls. Who thought this was a good plot for a family movie?!

King Promethus

Hello cohorts, I've had some amazing, unique gaming memories within the last year that I'll cherish for a long time between a full 4 player co-op playthrough of Baldurs Gate 3 and getting 8 friends together on a private server for Palworld. What are some of your cherished memories of times with video games that you'll remember forever because you did it with friends?

Styster

Hey MinnMaxers! What is each cohort's superpower that they are known for? Leo's might be the ability to make any live service game end, for example, or Haley has the incredble ability to make an analogy for any legal situation. Thanks!

Hunter Short

Hello! I thought of this question because of Huber enjoying games getting 10 out of 10 or 5 out of 5. I enjoy seeing this as well. What are the games that got perfect scores that surprised you or shocked you? Do y’all have any fond memories of 10s?

Sam Worms

What’s your favorite nickname someone has given you? My last name is Worms and my college roomate’s uncle would call me “Fish Bait.”

Josh LaBaw

Can Arcades make a comeback?

Luke Strain

Is there any world where The Pokemon Company sees Palword and makes a survival Pokemon game like it? Arceus seemed like it could be modified to fit the bill.

RickyWinterborn

if you had to have grown up in a different state or country what would it be?

Lilly S

It's that time of the year where everyone and their mother is getting sick. So my question for the MinnMax cohorts - what is your favorite soup and what is your favorite soup combo?

Jump On Everything

If Nintendo does announce a new console soon, what will it be called
