Interview: Devi McCallion on Trends of Online Commercialization and Socialization

Find Devi's Media Here: https://www.instagram.com/dei_genetrix/ https://blacksquares.bandcamp.com/ This is a conversation between myself and the very talented musician-producer-artist Devi McCallion. While the internet music model is the status quo today, Devi’s place as an independent online artist is well earned, with almost 20 years of releasing projects under her net label, blacksquares. While she may have found recent popularity with projects like Girls Rituals, Mom, and Black Dresses, she pioneered independent online artistry long before popular culture shifted to value it. Our conversation focuses on her unique experience as an online artist throughout the dramatic changes to the internet over the time that she’s been involved. She shares insights into the trends of online commercialization and socialization, and one can gather a sense of what the future of this virtual landscape might hold. It was a pleasure speaking with Devi, and I hope to have others like her on the show moving forward.
