Titan1017

These last two pages bring up a good question that hasn’t been comfortably explained: Are Aya, Chihaya, Saki, and Eri able to automatically cough out water and begin breathing upon resurfacing, even if they’re not conscious? If so, how does drowning even pose a threat to them? Is there a certain amount of time after blacking out that they become unable to clear their lungs on their own even if they were to float up to the surface, thus necessitating CPR or hospitalization? What would that limit be?

I also think Aya may need to change her diving style (the way she uses her body to propel herself downwards). Twice now other freedivers have given her a challenge or beaten her in some capacity. Granted, those matchups were with Saki and Eri, but they both used the same technique while descending (arms at the side, legs together kicking in unison). The younger of the cousins used the breaststroke, and while she performed well each time, the fact that even Eri was able to last as long as her points to the fact that Aya may be using too much energy while swimming. She could actually take a lesson on underwater skills from others for once, learn to limit her movement, and achieve the same amount of thrust while going even longer on a breath.
