Last week we reached the end of one branch of the story and you guys voted to go back to the bar and see what happens if you take Elijah back to your place. So here goes:

______________________________________________

“How about you guys come back to our place instead?” you suggest.

“Really? That wouldn’t be weird for you?”

“No.” Of course that’s a lie, this whole situation is already weird regardless of what happens from here. And the weirdness, the discomfort, is part of the appeal for you. And you want all of it, no matter how confronting it could be. You don’t want to miss a single detail that you don’t have to.

“I know it probably doesn’t make sense,” you tell him, “but even though I’m not going to be part of this — of what happens between you — I would really like to be as close to the action as possible. Even if that’s just in the next room or something.”

He frowns, obviously confused. But he accepts what I’m saying. “Okay, I’ll ask him.”

He disappears for a moment, talking to his trick across the room from you. You notice how close they are, how much touching there is, as they talk. Then Frank looks over your way and beckons to you. You take a deep breath, bracing yourself for what’s undoubtably going to be a thoroughly humiliating exchange, and you walk over.

“Let’s go,” Frank shouts over the music. The three of you make for the doorway, and it’s not till you’re out on the street that Frank attempts to make introductions. “Elijah, this is Sam. Sam, Elijah.”

You wonder whether to shake hands, but Elijah just gives you a nod and a, “Hey, man.” He doesn’t seem particularly interested in you, which you find odd considering he’s meeting the boyfriend of a man he’s about to go home with. You wonder whether cuckolding people is something he does so often it’s unremarkable, or whether he’s feeling just as awkward as you and wants to say as little as possible to you.

The three of you turn and head for the taxis lined up down the street. But very quickly the two of them drop behind you a little bit, and you see the two of them arm-in-arm as they walk.

“So, just you and your roommate out tonight?” you hear Elijah ask Frank.

For a second there’s silence, and in that moment you realise Frank hasn’t told Elijah that you’re his boyfriend. You spin around to face them, with the intention of setting the record straight, but you pause. You can tell by the silence that Frank’s obviously feeling uncomfortable about it and doesn’t know whether to come out with the truth or just let Elijah carry on believing his assumption. It would definitely be simpler to say nothing, and avoid any awkwardness. But you also feel like he probably has a right to know — some people aren’t into sleeping with guys in committed relationships. And you feel a sense of indignation at the idea of no one acknowledging that you’re Frank’s partner. Frank’s cuckold.

They’ve both looked up at you because of the way you abruptly turned to face them, as though you were about to say something. As the silence drags on you wonder whether you should say anything before the moment passes, or just leave it up to Frank.
