Hi guys, sorry this next part's been a long time coming! My writing time's been pretty limited just lately due to starting a new job, and I ended up writing this particular bit of the story in completely the wrong direction which meant the beginning was the last bit to be finished. Anyway, it's done now. Hope you like it, let me know what you think!
Luca and I got home late in the afternoon, a little achy but enlivened by our afternoon gym session. When we came into the apartment the door to the balcony was open, and we could see Hunter sitting out there. We wandered out onto the balcony to find him leaned back, shirtless, soaking up the afternoon sun with a beer. It was the first time I’d seen him without a shirt on; he was impressively muscular, with a tan and a few freckles on his shoulders. All those days doing heavy farm labour out in the sun had obviously done his physique a lot of good.
“Hey,” I greeted him.
He looked up, relaxed. “Hey dude,” he replied. “Hey Luca. How you boys been?”
“Good, yeah,” I replied.
“Tired!” Luca added. “We’ve just been at the gym.”
“Nice,” Hunter nodded. “Hey, why don’t you boys join me? Sun’s probably gonna be gone soon but it’s pretty nice while it’s here. I bought some beers; they’re in the fridge, help yourselves.”
“That sounds like exactly what I need right now,” Luca replied enthusiastically. He went back inside to get beers. “You want one, Joel?”
“Yeah, thanks,” I called back to him. I sat down at the table, looking out at the view of the city to avoid the temptation to ogle Hunter’s half-naked body.
Luca emerged with two beers, and handed me one. He sat down between Hunter and I. “How’s your day been?”
“Not bad,” he answered. “I had a bunch of shopping I wanted to do while I was in town so I was mostly pounding the pavement, you know.”
“Nice. Find what you needed?”
“Kind of. The shops change so much that every time I come to the city the places I knew are gone and then a bunch of new ones have popped up that I don’t know about. But all good, ‘cause it means I explore more of the city that way.”
“You should have asked, we could have given you some pointers,” Luca said.
Hunter laughed. “I meant to hit you guys up about it before I left this morning but the two of you sounded kinda… busy.”
I blushed, although in a way I was kinda pleased that I’d put on a decent performance fucking Luca earlier.
“Payback for keeping us up last night,” Luca said playfully.
Hunter laughed bashfully. “Oh you heard that?”
We both nodded. Luca grinned. “How could we not?”
“Sorry if I woke you boys.” He was acting apologetic, but I could tell there was a hint of pride under there too.
“No problem at all,” Luca replied. “You sound like you’re good at it; made me a little envious.”
I shot a look at Luca; he was trying to act like he was just joking around, but the flirting was unmistakable. I looked back at Hunter, and I could tell he understood.
“Ha, thanks,” he replied. He paused for a moment and took a long, slow sip of his beer. Then he looked at the two of us — mainly at Luca, but making sure to give me some eye contact too. “You know, if the two of you want to see for yourselves…”
My heart raced. I looked over at Luca, and he looked back at me with a look of nervous uncertainty.
“I, uh…” Luca seemed lost for words. “We’ve never… we…”
“We don’t really play with other guys,” I jumped in. “We’re like the only monogamous gay guys in this city.” I let out a nervous laugh.
Hunter threw his arms up in an apologetic gesture. “Of course, no worries boys. Sorry if I made it awkward just now. Let me out of my little town for a couple of days and I’m tryin’ to fuck every man in sight!”
I looked over at Luca. He looked a little disappointed, and for a moment he wouldn’t meet my gaze or Hunter’s. I suddenly regretted jumping in and shutting down the moment. That had literally been my fantasy about to come true, and I’d just put a stop to it. And if I was judging correctly, Luca had wanted it too.
I shook my head. “No it’s fine,” I told Hunter. “You didn’t make it awkward.”
But the damage was done. There was a moment of silence while Hunter gulped back the rest of his beer, then he looked at his watch. “Shit, I’d better get ready, I’m supposed to be meeting my friends downtown pretty soon.”
“Of course, yep,” Luca replied. Hunter made a hasty exit into his room while we sat there in silence.
* * *
As we ate dinner I could tell that something was really off. We barely talked to each other, and when we did it was a little stilted, robotic. It was a little like the awkwardness of a first date, each person a little too apprehensive to reveal too much.
“I can’t believe Hunter tried to get us to have a three-way with him,” Luca said out of nowhere. He laughed, trying to sound dismissive. But something about the way he said it sounded so contrived, like he was desperate to make it sound more casual than it really was.
Or maybe I was just projecting, because I’d been dying to bring it up myself, but hasn’t been sure just how to do it.
“I know, right?” I let out a nervous laugh. “Some guys just can’t help themselves I suppose.”
There was a long, awkward pause, before either of us spoke again. It was Luca who broke the silence. “I mean I guess we should be flattered, right? He’s really fucking hot.” As soon as he said that he looked down, pretending to concentrate intently on pushing his food around his plate, afraid to meet my eyes.
“He is,” I agreed. I paused, not sure how to say what I wanted to say. But I knew it was now or never; one of us had to say it. “Were you… were you tempted?” I asked. “Like, do you think you’d want to do it if I was okay with it?”
He looked up, met my gaze. “I mean, I guess I’d be interested in the possibility.” He said, as if he’d only just considered it for the first time. He quickly added, “Only ever if you were though. I’d never do it unless I thought you were into it.”
He studied my face, like that last statement was a question and he was waiting for my reply.
I grabbed my glass and gulped down some wine. “I mean, you’re right, he is really hot.” I tried to say it like I hadn’t been thinking about it for the last two hours either. But at this point I think we both saw through each other’s attempts. “I think if you wanted to, then I might be up for trying it out.”
Luca took a long, slow drink of his wine. I could see his mind ticking over. Then his brow furrowed a little bit. Oh shit, I thought to myself. I’ve really gone and fucked it up now.
But when he spoke, what he said was not what I’d expected. “So it sounds like we just turned down a three-way with a really hot guy who was into us, because we were both keen but too chicken to be the one to say so.”
“I don’t know if I would say keen…” I started. But then I gave up the charade entirely. “Well, yeah, pretty much.”
Luca sighed. “Fuck.”
I winced. What the fuck was I thinking? This was literally what I’d been fantasising about ever since we put the room online, and when the chance finally came up I tried to act like I didn’t even want it.
“Maybe it’ll still happen..?” I suggested hopefully.
Luca shook his head. “Nah, he’s going to stumble in here at three in the morning with some dude he picked up at the clubs, and we’re going to have to listen to him fuck again.”
* * *
He didn’t though.
It was about eleven when we heard Hunter’s key in the door. The two of us were curled up on the sofa, lights dimmed, watching a movie, having made peace with the fact that we’d blown our chance with him. We both looked up, and saw his figure — alone — framed in the light of the corridor.
“Hey guys,” he said as he came in and shut the door behind him.
“Hey,” we both replied in unison.
“You’re home early,” Luca said. “We thought you’d be out all night. Making the most of Saturday night in the big city, and all that.”
Hunter walked over, sat down on the empty sofa across from us. “Nah. Turned out that the guys I was meeting up with for dinner couldn’t really do a late night, so we just had dinner and a few quiet drinks. I might hit up a few of my friends and see if they want to head out for a bit, but probably I’ll just have an early night.”
Luca jumped up off the sofa. “Have a drink with us.”
“You sure?” Hunter asked. “Looks like you boys are in the middle of a movie.”
“It’s fine,” Luca brushed him off, not even looking at me to see if I approved. “We can finish it later. Besides, we gotta help you make the most of your night.”
I couldn’t see Luca’s face when he said that, but judging by the grin that started to creep across Hunter’s when he said that, I could tell exactly what was happening. Holy shit, I thought to myself, he’s actually flirting with him. Maybe this is actually going to happen.
“Beer?” Luca asked. “Wine? Joel, you’re gonna have a drink too, right?”
“Yeah,” I said, my voice cracking a little from the nerves. “Gin and tonic, please.”
“Whatever you boys are having is all good with me,” Hunter added.
“Three gins, then.” Luca grabbed glasses and started mixing the drinks. “So where did you go for dinner?” he asked.
I wasn’t really even listening as they made small talk. My head was swimming a little bit. Were we actually about to try initiate a three-way with our houseguest? I wandered over to the kitchen counter and Luca passed me a drink.
I took a big gulp. It was strong. Good, I’m going to need some courage.
Luca came out from behind the kitchen island, and as he handed a glass to Hunter he stepped unusually close, into his personal space a little. “Here’s to your weekend in the big city” he said, clinking his glass against Hunter’s. “And making the most of it.”
Hunter took a drink. “You know,” he said, “I’m really grateful to you boys for having me here. I was a little unsure of how the whole homestay thing would go, who I’d have to stay with, all that. But the two of you have been great, really welcoming.”
“No problem at all,” Luca assured him. “You’ve been the perfect houseguest. Besides, it’s got upsides for us too. It’s cool for us to meet knew people, try new experiences.” The way he said that last sentence, the way he looked straight into Hunter’s eyes, eyebrows raised suggestively, it was pretty obvious where he was going with that.
Hunter eyed Luca almost suspiciously for a second or two, like he was trying to work out whether or not he was misreading the situation. But maybe not that surprised. “I thought you boys said you kept it monogamous.”
“We have,” Luca replied. “Till now. I’m thinking maybe that’s about to change though.”
Hunter leaned in a tiny, almost imperceptible amount, towards Luca. Luca did the same. For a moment it looked like they were being drawn into each other, about to kiss. Then Hunter looked over at me. “You’re up for it too?” he asked.
I gulped. My throat was dry. I looked at Luca, who was looking back at me. He looked nervous, but he also had that same look in his eye he always got when he was trying to encourage me to try something he thought I’d be resistant to.
I looked back at Hunter. My god he was hot. Of course I wanted to do this, even if I was kind of terrified. I nodded and threw back the rest of my drink.
Hunter gestured with a tilt of his head for me to come closer. I put my glass down on the counter and took a couple of steps towards the two of them. As I did, they inched closer too. So close that their chests grazed together for a moment as Luca shifted his weight. Hunter leaned in, put his hand gently on Luca’s neck just below his earlobe, and kissed him slowly.
Watching them kiss made the world stand still for a few seconds. I was fixated, on the way their lips softly pressed against each other’s, the way Luca’s eyes seemed to close involuntarily. The way they became instantly, totally absorbed in each other.
I wasn’t sure how to feel. I’d always said that I didn’t think I could handle watching Luca hook up with another man. That I’d be too jealous, too insecure. And I definitely felt that feeling of jealousy in the pit of my stomach. But oh my fucking god it was hot.
Hunter’s hands found Luca’s hips, wrapped around his lower back, and slowly made their way down to his ass. They pulled Luca in closer, so the two of them were now pressed up against each other. Their kissing became a little bit more vigorous, and Luca wrapped his arms around Hunter’s neck, tousling the hair on the back of his head.
For a minute or two I thought they might go on like this without me for the rest of the night. But eventually they pulled apart.
“Like what you saw?” Hunter asked, looking over at me with a grin.
Luca seemed to be shaking himself out of a trance, only reminded of my existence by Hunter’s question. He looked over at me, taking my stunned silence as upset. “You okay, babe?” he asked.
I nodded, and tried to find the ability to speak again. “O, yeah,” I answered emphatically. “That was amazing.”
Luca looked relieved. Hunter looked pleased. “Come here,” he said.
I came closer. He leaned in and kissed me. It was such a strange feeling, being kissed my a man who wasn’t Luca. How long had it been? Years, definitely. It felt different somehow, although I couldn’t place exactly how. I relaxed into it, rested a hand on his torso, just above the belt. God it was chiseled.
I pulled away. I looked at Luca, trying to tell what he was thinking. He didn’t look upset, or worried. Just curious, his eyes full of questions. I gave a little nod, giving him the answer he was looking for: I was okay, I was into it. I reached out, took his wrist gently, and put it on Hunter’s chest. They took the hint; they leaned in and kissed again.
Luca started to unbutton Hunter’s shirt. Slowly at first, but then more frantically. He got the buttons undone, and pulled the shirt off, revealing Hunter’s chest and torso. God, he was in shape. That farm life was definitely good for the physique.
Hunter broke away long enough to pull Luca’s t-shirt off over his head. Then they were back together, kissing, their bare chests pressed up against each other. Luca beckoned in my direction with his hand, not breaking away from Hunter or looking in my direction. I took the cue, came a little closer. Came up behind Luca, kissed his neck and his shoulder. Hunter put a hand on the back of my neck, leaned over Luca’s shoulder to kiss me again — just briefly — before he asked us both, “How ‘bout we take this to the bedroom?”
