Two years (Patreon)
Content
Today it's two years since I published my first book Cole Got Cucked Hard.
I had no idea what to expect at the time, but they experience I've had so far with it has been pretty cool. I've sold over 1000 books, been commissioned a couple of times, published five stories (3 novellas, 2 shorts) so far with another two on the way soon.
Now that I'm two years in I thought maybe I'd share some of the stats I collect about my books. I monitor a bunch of stats about my book sales, partly because I want to see what's working / not working, and partly just because I'm a nerd who likes graphs. It's not the kind of thing that everyone's into, but I figure if you're interested enough to become a patreon supporter maybe it will be of interest.
I'm also sharing this info over on twitter but I'll go into a bit more detail here.
First up, sales by month.
Each time I release a new book I get a bump in sales, which gradually declines over time, which is expected. But the tail is longer than I would have expected - what I've seen on erotica forums suggests that usually there's a 'cliff' after a couple of months where everything drops off, after which you get very few sales. But mine tend to go on much longer. Unless, the other way of looking at it is that this is the bottom of the cliff and not the top, and I'm missing out on most of the sales I'd usually get in the first few weeks.
This graph is daily sales, with a trend line showing a two week rolling average.
Again, the peaks when I release a new book are obvious. But the thing I find more interesting is that each time there's a new book the benchmark - where it falls back to after that initial spike - is higher. That gives me hope that the more books I release, the higher stable income I'll get which will add towards me being able to work part time at my day job eventually and spend more time writing.
Next is the performance of each book from day one. The x axis (which I forgot to label) is the number of days since the book went on sale.
It shows that Cole Got Cucked Hard and Best Man have similar levels of popularity, but Best Man had an initial spike because I already had an audience.
Cucked and Replaced and Cuckold B&B Vol 1 were initially about as popular, but the sales dropped off faster and they didn't do as well for as long. And my watersports short story Drenched In Gold did abysmally, not even cracking 30 sales. But that's to be expected, because it was completely different subject matter so wasn't necessarily going to be popular with my existing audience.
Anyway, hope that's at least a little bit interesting! In other news, I just have to proof read volume two of Cuckold B&B and then it will be ready to go. I'm planning to release it on 17 May and I'll send a link for a free copy to all my 'bud' level patrons.
