I've got a question for you guys
- Traditional northern hemisphere white Christmas, like the movies 3
- Southern hemisphere summer Christmas, like the ones I know 4
I'm currently working on a Christmas cuckold story, which I'm hoping (fingers crossed!) to have finished in time to release in the lead-up to this Christmas.
I'm a little torn on a particular question though. It's completely non-sexual and not really related to the action itself, but it affects how I write a whole lot of minor details, and I expect it will affect how real and grounded the story feels.
I live in the southern hemisphere, where Christmas is in the middle of summer. It gives Christmas a different vibe to what I'm used to seeing on American/British TV. Instead of snow, warm fires, ugly knitted Christmas sweaters and all that, the kind of Christmas I'm used to involves shorts, sunscreen, outdoor barbecues and trips to the beach.
So what I'm wondering is: should I go for the cliche Christmas I know from the movies - the traditional white Christmas that most of my readers will be familiar with, but that I will need to construct largely from assumptions and pop culture references? Or should I go for the summer Christmas I'm familiar with, grounded in reality for me, even though readers might find it jarring because it doesn't fit with their concept of Christmas and departs from the usual Hallmark movie fantasy?
So far I'm leaning towards the latter, but I'm keen to know your opinions. So please vote and let me know what you think in the comments.
Oh, and either way, the story's still going to include a cuck who has to watch his boyfriend get fucked by his high school bully. So that's fun, right?
