Sat and tried to think of some joke about it being a time for a crisis because I'd been refreshing the feed to see if it had been uploaded but couldn't think of anything. Great to have you back!

This was a great episode! Except that I now really want a machine I can't afford or fit into my flat lol

TracyWil1

More new episodes! Yeah!!!

A grand return! Great show. Re: Leon's comment about doing rapid fire, don't know if it's the same thing, but I used to stick my index finger through the 'trigger hole' and waggle it back and forth really quickly. Difficult to describe with words, as you mentioned 😆

Sorry - last comment! In response to Leon asking why we can't have 'light gun' games now when we can control pointers on the screen with motion controls - we can! There are the House Of The Dead remakes, the recent Operation Wolf compilation also supports motion aiming. With the HOTD remakes specifically, they weren't much cop on the original Switch just because the joycons aren't overly accurate for motion aiming, but on Switch 2 they actually play a lot better. They're not without issue, but I picked up the first HOTD remake for under a fiver and it was well worth that. Certainly worth keeping an eye out for a sale. There are other 'point at the screen and shoot' games on Switch, too. There was a western themed one I can't remember the title of, but they do exist. I'd love to see more coming out.

This tactic got me through house of the dead back in the day! 👏

I'm jumping on this comment also 😅 HOTD 2+3 and overkill are available for the Wii at a great price. Can be played on 'flat' tv's too. 👍

Yeah the Wii was really great for light gun games, HOTD, Ghost Squad, even Mad Dog McCree was fun to play! The joycons just aren't as accurate using motion only to aim, but the HOTD games are still fun to play on Switch and I think with a bit of fine tuning there's an opportunity for loads of these old light gun games to come to Switch. Bet they don't, though... :(

Staring down another day of long old travel. Really looking forward to this one. ACTION!!

Cane and Rinse doesn't have ads... But this might as well have been an ad for Arcade Club. My plans have changed because I need to go play a light gun game

Excellent episode! I had always assumed this game involved time travel, but upon playing it for the show, it became clear that it was named for a completely extradiagetic game mechanic. Of course there’s urgency implied in the story, but putting in quarters miraculously and arbitrarily abates the “time crisis” momentarily. It made me wonder about other games that were named more for their mechanics than their story content, and there’s quite a few, I suppose. So I could be informed enough to listen along, I played through the game on my Steam Deck, credit feeding the emulated arcade version and using a too-sensitive analog stick to control a firing reticle that kept pulling back to center. This is as far as possible from the ideal and intended way to experience Time Crisis, but you know what? I still enjoyed my experience with it, and it got me up to speed enough that I could listen to the episode and understand what everyone was talking about.

Leon’s passionate plea for motion-control lightgun game made me look forward to Volume 16 coverage of “Link's Crossbow Training” ;-þ It will be its 20 year anniversary too! Then you can play it, so I don’t have to :-þ

This might well be very silly but… Listening to this, I wondered whether someone would make a mod to play Time Crisis on handheld (SteamDeck or alike) using Gyro aiming? Can’t imagine that would play very well, but now I can’t get it out of my head.

Something that came back to me: I’m pretty sure I played Project Titan with auto-fire *and* auto-cover (when bullets are out). Is that possible? Because if it was, then that was a very stupid way to play, and no-wonder I never got very good at the game. A great episode, another one that transported me to the era of the arcarde that I unfortunately never experienced. If I pass by an arcade club one of these days, I hope they will have a Time Crisis on stock.

Ahah! While writing up my correspondence for Rollcage, I was perusing old magazine scans and landed on a commercial for that light-gun I could not recall − it was a Big Ben Virtual Light. (All grey, to Leon’s point about blue/pink controllers). And it does have a so-called "turbo mode" with auto-reload >_>
