This podcast was meant to go live several days ago but you can blame two things, a local supermarket is selling Cadbury's Creme Eggs for just 20p, and Pearl Abyss' Crimson Desert which resulted in some lengthy, sugar-fuelled sessions wandering about Pywel, getting up to all kinds of nonsense with the bloody Greymanes.Stuff discussed:Sumo spring Grand FinalDorohedoro Season 2New film and TV trailersProject Hail MarySend HelpCrimson DesertResident Evil RequiemHades IISuper Mario WonderSystem Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster

I’m paying virgin media an eye watering £92 a month not including tv! Up from £74 something a few years ago. It’s decent internet service but the price and customer service is pretty rubbish:

next time: in depth discussion on supermarket meal deal preferences (without upgrading, still has to be the cheapo meal deal). At Sainsbury’s, I’m gonna go: Brie, Bacon and Chili Jam Sandwich, Vita coconut water (white carton, ideally), and hmmm a Wispa because f it #YOLo

Mother of mercy, I am loving the consumer advice at the beginning of this podcast. Jay is a man after my own heart - I too will walk if I can save a couple of quid.

On The Backrooms - it was originally an internet ‘creepy pasta’ that originated on 4chan in the late 2010s. Then some teenage YouTuber started making short films about it - and he is now directing the movie. Pretty impressive for a 20 year old. Very curious to see how the movie turns out.

Cane and Rinse

Thanks for the info! Shame about the 4Chan origins, but hopefully no connection to the dark side of that place.

Crimson desert not for my preferences but I knew it'd be a Jay game

Re broadband, we have an alt fibre here. Full fibre to the home (they fit the cable into the house) for £19 a month. Also Jay is wrong, there's a Morrisons in Speke. Miles from his place though

Well I enjoyed the supermarket chat and yes, Jay, my life is that boring 😆 I spent the weekend feeling very sorry for myself after a really difficult tooth extraction on Friday last week. I broke my tooth on a pork scratching on Easter Sunday (karma for a supposed vegetarian?) and ignored it. It got worse and worse and had to have it out on the Friday. The pain was bad enough but I had to pay £341 for the pleasure. That's my streaming services cancelled for a couple of months I think, and no more pork scratchings 😭

Cane and Rinse

Holy shit! That sucks. Actually maybe you should have sucked that scratching.

I've been a Patreon subscriber for... ooh I don't know how many years, pretty much since the day you set it up. I love the show and I very much value what it brings to my life. The monthly bonus shows would be worth the price of admission alone. BUT - even if it wasn't, even if I hardly ever listened to the show, all that money would have been worth it just to hear Jay use the phrase "cunting it off" this month. 😆

Sound of play 301! Was so excited until I saw the date it came out🤦‍♂️

As a big enjoyer of the LotR films, nevermind the books, what bothers me most about all these planned adaptations is the material they've chosen and the stories they want to tell. There's frankly so many more interesting pieces of the legendarium to explore, though Rings of Power attempted that and to my taste it definitely was not. The hunt for Gollum (very briefly recounted by Gandalf at the Council of Elrond) is an interesting eight-year period of the story but there is something movies need that this part of the story does not have: a climax. Certainly not in the way Hollywood productions tend to want. I'm just left wondering what sort of manufactured conflict and out of place characters will be offered up on the sacrificial altar of the source material to appease the great Studio gods.

Canadian internet prices are terrible as well: I pay $135 a month for just internet (albeit a speedy 2Gbps fibre connection). I’ve considered bribing them into giving me a 50% discount by sharing my Patreon RSS link to the Cane and Rinse podcast, however I don’t want to go to jail for trading such highly sought after contraband. Thanks for another great episode gents!

At the beginning of this episode (issue?) Leon mentioned what people find more dull, nitpicking videogame or the talk about changing broadband providers. I just wanted to say that I think the monthlys are a nice breath of fresh air. It's quite nice to just hear people having a "normal" conversation with no set topic and being that you're both based in the UK, as am I, compared to other podcasts I listen to being based in the states, it's actually generally very relatable. As much as the monthly format is obviously not the point of the podcast, it gives me something that I don't get from any other podcasts, and that includes the random talk about games you have played recently or films/TV shows you have watched recently that otherwise wouldn't get their own episode or discussion. I just wanted to let you know that there are those of us out there who actually look forward to the monthlys and don't just see them as an optional extra to the main show.

Leon mentioning the Japanese football fans and their bags of merch reminded me of something I've been telling people for years. Get a Japanese player on your team and fans in Japan will spend shit loads of money on you. In Japan I saw in real time the shift from LA Angels merch to Dodgers merch when Ohtani switched teams, and the huge amounts of money that comes with that. I've taught students who want to talk to me about football and most of whom support Brighton because they have a superstar Japanese player, as you mentioned. Protect him at all costs.
