Scheduled for the game's 20th birthday, in this podcast we look back at the Nintendo mascot's second RPG outing, Paper Mario. Float into bed and join Leon, Darren and Leah in the Mushroom Kingdom circa 2001 for another tale of an imprisoned Princess Peach and the seeking of seven magical stars. As usual we also have recollections from the Cane and Rinse community, as well as your Three Word Reviews.

Hi all, really loved this episode! I don't check the forum enough to give correspondence there (something I know I should fix after listening to the show for as long as I have!) but this one's real special to me. The community on GameFAQs and the social board that sprung up around this game has been one of my longest standing online communities and we're all celebrating 20(ish) years of knowing each other, give or take a couple of years for arrival times. I really enjoyed the discussion of how distilled the battle system is down to simple numbers and inputs, and how that allows for deeper strategy because the numbers are so exact (and at times, unforgiving!) And for a game I know so well, my only keyboard-clacking moment of pedantry is that none of you seemed to find the Quick Change badge, which allows you to swap a partner without losing their turn. But that's okay! I still try to play through this game every other year or so, and I still find it as charming now as I did then, although now I use more FP-efficient and BP-efficient strategies. It's also fun to do self-imposed challenges, like limiting whether or not I can use items. I haven't been brave enough to try a no-Partner run though (just using Do Nothing with partner every single battle turn.) If you ever feel inclined to dig deeper into the game or revisit some of its fun glitches, I have to recommend Stryder7x's YouTube channel, where he goes into glitches in the game, as well as challenge runs of the game. I'd start with this playlist or just poke around the channel. Cheers for a great issue as always and wishing you the best. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1B_rbTOEyI8PM2XnKnw3NvbFdP7IpYM7

Great episode. Love the paper mario games. Well most of them. Also the new one is very good.

Good episode. Random, but I think the closest thing we've had to the original Paper Mario is South Park: The Stick Of Truth, rather than the later entries in the PM series.
