...am now going to be moderately paranoid whenever I say "it's the best such-and-such I've played/watched/read"

Really good discussion about objectivity vs subjectivity. I find a lot of the discourse on the internet often tries to claim objectivity in particular when discussing what constitutes 'good' writing in any fiction whether Film, TV or games. There are so many aspects to what writing a story consists of (creating believable characters, writing good dialogue, being original, pacing etc) and everyone has different ideas of what important so the idea there is objectively good and bad writing is ridiculous. That's why it's perfectly possible for Josh and Karl to think the writing in Life Is Strange is awful and for me and others to really like it.

It can be difficult to moderate conversational speech that way. I mistakenly believe that when I say something like ‘Aliens: Colonial Marines’ is the best licensed game ever, that it is implicit ‘my opinion is that’ precedes this statement due to it’s subjectivity being a given. Listening to how you spoke about it though, makes me want to actively convey my opinion more accurately.

You're right, it takes practise and even then it's easy to 'slip up'.
