Hmmm, it's been a couple of days since this was edited and we can't remember what the hell we were talking about. We think it may have involved some chatter about rice cookers and what we've been playing recently and we're pretty sure we answered some more of your questions but beyond that, dunno!Guess you're just gonna have to listen to it yourself to find out...Don't forget to leave us a like and maybe a comment below if you enjoy this particular kind of nonsense.

At the risk of being “that guy”, if you enjoy the Sisters Brothers movie, you should read the novel. The movie is good, but loses most of the humor of the book. It reads almost like a Coen Brothers movie. Great book and a fun, interesting writer.

I really love this episodes. The chemistry between Leon and Jay is great and the discussions make me smile, laugh, and feel good about life while I listen. Depression keeps me down a lot, but I am glad to have this podcast.

I eat and enjoy a lot of fermented foods, including the famous century egg, but didn't get along with natto when I tried a bit of it in Japan. The texture is definitely a hurdle. My wife however is a big fan and is determined to get our daughter eating it at a young age for its health benefits. I suppose it's a mental block with a lot of these things, it took me years to overcome my misgivings about durian but now I love it, smell and all. Perhaps I'll be able to appreciate natto some day.

Jay there's a morrisons in speke (Liverpool side of the water). Bus from south parkway. Maybe still a trek from where you are

Yes Leon, The Gamers, that's exactly my answer to those sorts of questions. For me it's a name I give to them ironically as a lot of them aren't really gamers, but opportunist arseholes who complain about anything that isn't about straight white men (because there's not enough of that in popular culture ever). Also, I lived in the Wirral when I was young and to this day can't say Birkenhead without that accent, so it's nice to hear Jay becoming one of us.

Filthy Casuals turned me onto Cane & Rinse also. It's a very different type of show though. Quite "loose" as we say in Australia, and they are all comedians.

I too read and loved the book. Haven't seen the film though, but it's on my list and I'm looking forward to seeing how it measures up!

I’d like to recommend another great Patrick DeWitt book, Undermajordomo Minor. Same fun writing, but instead of a western it’s more of a folk or fairy tale type thing? Kind of? I don’t know how to explain it but I thought it was great.

Ugh ketchup. Any of that slimy, smelly mayo, ketchup, salad cream stuff is 🤢🤮 Natto has that horrible sticky neba-neba texture but a full Japanese breakfast is overwise lovely. Love grilled fish for breakfast. But if you want lazy-person fish for breakfast, a Miririn Special is pretty alright: crusty bread, spread some kabosu or yuzu kosho paste on top, add some tinned tuna, put some cheese on top, grill it. My favourite invented breakfast when I lived in Japan 😂

Enjoyed the home appliance death trap chat this month. Jay's chip pan tale reminded me of an almost identical story I have from my childhood. One summer holiday my brother and I were shipped off to our grans for the day, and at lunch time she put a chip pan on the hob and went upstairs. A few minutes later we noticed what looked to us like ten foot flames blazing up from the cooker! We ran to the foot of the stairs and shouted, "gran, gran! The kitchen is on fire!!". To our dismay, she responded, "what? No, it can't be". We yelled, "GRAN THE KITCHEN IS ON FIRE!!!!!" She slowly made her way downstairs, looked at the inferno and said, "Oh dear" as she calmly threw a damp tea towel over it and walked it in to the garden. Crisis averted. And that's the closest I've ever come to landing in a fiery grave.

Hey guys. If you haven’t listened to Filthy Casuals yet I’ve now thought for two weeks in a row that you might appreciate the episodes. Filthy Auzzie humour but also they are thoughtful and on the side of the just.
