Here's where you can contribute your thoughts and opinions for Contra Spirits (Contra III: The Alien Wars / Super Probotector: Alien Rebels) for potential inclusion in the forthcoming podcast.

A friendly reminder that where the feedback for the podcast is concerned, we love it - but keeping it brief is appreciated. We do want to include a breadth of opinions where appropriate, but no-one wants a discussion podcast that’s mostly reading out essays. Better to save yourself time and cut to the chase if you can.

What a classic shoot-em-up. Contra 3 was the first standalone game I picked up for my snes (street fighter 2 was included). I must have read good things in Mean machines (or possibly NMS by then) as I'd not played the previous games, though I remember being confused as to why it was called Super probotector over here. As I write this I still can't recall the reason - something to do with censorship perhaps but I'm sure you'll enlighten me in the pod! Silly name aside, I didn't really mind controlling robots instead of Arnie/Rambo clones because the game immediately grabbed me. Great graphics and sound, a really balanced feel to the shooting and many memorable cinematic moments have firmly lodged this amongst my favourites of the era. Six excellently paced levels (ok maybe 4 - the 2 top down ones weren't great but I appreciated the variety!) so its short and sweet, but endlessly replayable. I still enjoy a quick blast through it on my snes mini - time has not tarnished my childhood memories of this one. Three word review obviously: Lets attack aggressively!

Very simply, the Probotector thing happened in Europe in order to circumvent German laws prohibiting the sale of violent, 'war-like' games to minors.

For decades, all I knew of this game was the amazing-looking screenshots used to advertise it in magazines. Being a fan of the first two games, it looked like a bigger, better, more “Super” version of Contra, but I never got to mess with it. A few years back, somebody was throwing away the SNES manual on the curb (along with a few other game manuals), so I picked it up, read through it like I would have in the olden days, and sold it on eBay for a chunk of change. It put the bug in me, though, so I downloaded the game via emulation and found it rad but pretty tricky! With time, I’m sure I could’ve gotten it under my thumbs just like I did for Contra and Super C on the NES. I’ve since bought it proper on the Switch collection, but haven’t been back to it yet. Maybe this week!

Can we do three word reviews here? If so, "Second favorite Contra"
