Swearing on a podcast is a tiresome gimmick and I thought you were better than this.

What is this s***? The monthly f***ing podcast in the actual f***ing month?? F***, my lazy a**e is five podcasts behind and now you post this s***. W**kers! Hi Christopher, the odd swear can be good, but regular swearing can devalue discussion quickly.

Swearing can be a perfectly good way to add impact to language, when it's not being used as a substitute for it. Plenty of research that suggests appropriate use of profanity is linked to intelligence. Personally, I like nothing more than a nicely placed fuck in a sentence. But much like hallucinogenic chemicals, there's a time and a place. Also, it makes me feel more grown up when I'm listening to things with bad swears in. Fuck shit arse bugger bumflaps. That felt splendid.

I agree with Jay about Crimes of The Future, just fell flat for me especially the end reveal which just didn't feel like it had any impact. Weird year in movies for me, most new movies I had been anticipating felt fell flat for me espicially in comparison to watched after Everything Everywhere All at Once. I was disappointed with Crimes of The Future, Thor, Dr Strange and Men. I was expecting Nope to go down the same route, fortunately I ended up really enjoying it, enough to see it twice in theaters.

On the Marvel vs DC stuff, I think I'm in the minority preferring DC's just let creators do whatever rather than the MCU's more curated cannon friendly approach. It results in lower lows but also more distinct films especially in terms of visuals. The Batman, Joker, Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad all feel very different with great cinematography whereas MCU movies can have some great individual sequences but on the whole visually look a little bland and uninteresting especially the Avengers/Civil War movies. My favorite MCU films are the Guardians just because it feels like James Gunn's style really works and enhances the material. I'm hoping Black Panther 2 manages to stick the landing and not fall into a fairly bland finale like the first one which felt really disappointing.

Fun to hear the Viagra Boys talk, ‘Punk Rock Loser’ has been on a constant loop for me for the past few weeks Jay, are you a fan Electric Six? Viagra Boys remind me a lot of them, but Electric Six has more disco and dance mixed in.

Miri Starling

With respect to you both, I think it was T'Challa who came round rather than Killmonger at the end of Black Panther. One of the things I liked about the film is at the end T'Challa realises that Killmonger was correct: his methods were bad (cos... murder) but his grievances and aims were valid. It was a nice touch.

Tolkientaters

My main issue was that it devolved into 2 pretty boring action scenes without focusing on the interesting implications of what Killmonger was doing. I would've liked to see more Wakandan opinions about their isolation policy, Killmonger's goals or the way he took power. It felt weird that the seemingly first Wakandan Civil War was just brushed over really easily. I guess I wanted a different movie but that was because it teased more interesting stuff and then didn't deliver IMO.

The first song I heard from Viagra Boys was "Sports", so I thought they were just a novelty band (great song, btw). These past two albums put them more into a space occupied by bands like Ween for me: sometimes silly, sometimes serious, always a little bit weird in a good way. Leon, I think you'd maybe appreciate some of their songs like the aforementioned "Sports" or "Troglodyte" from their latest album.

Oni Omoregie

I love the movie talk as usual. Really interesting.

Not into Marvel* but I enjoyed the chat. Also very much enjoy two fifty something men going "it has whathis name in it, was in X, you know the one with the thing" for ten minutes. I prefer not having indents or jingles or anything in it, feels more natural. * I might watch She Hulk because Tatiana Maslany was sooo compelling in Orphan Black

Also if we get 1000 patreons can we have Jay's foulmouthed reviews of various rice cookers as an add on.

The Blood Shed

A quick note on the subject of Wakanda Forever. There is speculation that when Angela Bassett's character says she lost her whole family, this is actually during the blip as both T'Chala and Shuri were snapped so this may be part of some flashbacks to fill in the gaps of what happened in Wakanda during the blip.

Got some Masala Chai and enjoyed it, since I came into an excess amount of crossiants I made a bread pudding with Masala milk tea and it's real good. Thanks for the idea Jay.

Great show as usual! As for earworms, I've had Atmosphere by Russ Abbot stuck in my head for around 35 years now. I'm not even joking. Whenever I'm not thinking about something else, I can hear it. That calypso beat, that chripy little voice singing "Oh what an atmosphere, I love a party with a happy atmosphere..." I don't even know any of the other words. It's just that. On a loop. Again and again and again. Until the end of time. Please help. Please someone take it away. Make it stop. Please. Please.

Noooooooooo! My Dad had this on vinyl, torturous. and now it's stuck in my head, thanks. It's the aural equivalent of telling a person that they blink and breath automatically, thereby causing them to blink and breath manually for the next X minutes until they forget.

Hi. Just wondered if Leon had been enjoying Waverace on the switch virtual console. I’ve been loving it. Playing it brings back such wonderful memories. Although as a ‘basic’ pal gamer all my life I’m finding the NTSC version really hard. I will persevere though as I love the game so much. Wishing you all well and thanks for the monthly chats which are excellent.

Just my two cents on the topic of swearing in these podcasts. I would prefer not to swear as I love the more mature and polite style of the regular shows. The swearing here is not too annoying in these monthly shows and you can of course do whatever you want but as a middle aged man I enjoy a space on the internet with good manners and style.
