Little thought about the Ghost of Tsushima movie, Takashi Miike seems like a perfect director for it. He's made some great Samarai movies and absurdly accurate video game adaptations, I'm not sure if he's worked with a western production before, but if he was attached I would be so excited.

Tolkien fans saying he would've hated Rings of Power are probably right. That being said, he would've probably hated every adaptation including the original Trilogy, so I won't let his hypothetical reaction hamper anyone's enjoyment. I like this series and Fellowship of the Rings remains my all time favorite film. I certainly like Rings of Power certainly more than The Hobbit Trilogy, but being released at the same time as House of The Dragon isn't doing it any favors. I just think House of the Dragon is doing everything a little better though it does benefit from a tighter more focused story.

I agree that the less focused story for Rings of Power is to its detriment , but I also always thought the best parts of the LotR trilogy are in Fellowship. Too early for me to say whether I like Rings of Power or House of the Dragon more.

Had never even heard of Gangs Of London, gave it a go and love it! Thx Jay

Nice to hear Electric Six get a mention, you don't hear them brought up very often and I don't think most people know them beyond their two big hits back in the early 2000's, but they're a great band. If anyone is interested, check out their live album, Absolute Pleasure. It's fucking brilliant. One of the best lives albums ever recorded, the energy in that show is incredible. Check it out. It's also got a rip-roaringly good version of Danger! High Voltage on there.

Leon: Off topic but I'm moving to Hove soon (my wife has a new job at Brighton uni) - so I've already been scoping game-related bars/arcades. I sawaw there's a weekly retro games night at the ancient mariner and also a bar with arcades called the worlds end (thinking could be a good 40th birthday venue) - do you know these and/or have any recs for arcades in Brighton?

Jay's anger at Arcane not being watched reminded me of my own anger towards anyone that hasn't watched The Venture Brothers. It should be legal to slap these people in the throat! Also; Swizzels Drumstick Squashies are a decent replacement when you can't find the mushroom sweeties.

Good day fellas, you had mentioned Ryan's editing propensity to put an audio bed behind the introduction, and it gave me a good excuse to ask you the question why you don't provide musical intermissions in the podcast any more? I really like hearing some of the game soundtrack scattered throughout the pod, as you did in earlier times.

Re sweet shops. As a kid I'd be taken to "Law's Herbal Supplies" in Gateshead. The counter has bar stools and they served frothy Sasparilla pulled through ale pumps. As a young kid it felt so grown up to have a pint in a dimpled tankard at the bar. Nothing will ever taste so sweet.

Takashi Miike would be perfect. I remember in one week I watched Blade of the Immortal, 13 Assassins and Ace Attorney, and they were all incredibly watchable and entertaining. He makes fights feel epic, and his adaptations capture the tone and feel of the originals well. Ace Attorney is maybe the best video game adaptation ever made, and it's a shame it doesn't get talked about enough (probably because it wasn't made by white Americans). But I imagine the studio making the film doesn't want a visionary, they just want a yes-man. Blockbusters are so paint-by-numbers these days that it doesn't matter who is directing them (Marvel continues to prove this with every release). That's why I was so impressed with something like Dune, it doesn't look or feel like anything else that gets made at the moment.

Morning! Big fan of the podcast for a while now, in fact it's the only one I've made the descision to actually pay for, which I guess makes it my favourite! I have no idea why I enjoy the monthly podcast so much, never having seen a Marvel film and having no interest in Star Wars, but I love listening to you two talk about it, probably because of your enthusiasm! Unfortunately I haven't been able to listen to the last few issues, including this one, because the Patreon app seems to have disabled the option to directly download the podcasts. I listen remotely on cycle commutes so streaming through the app isn't an option for me. Do you happen to know if this is something Patreon have disabled, or if it's an option you have disabled? Either way I hope it's reinstated so I can continue listening!

Hi, thanks for the support and kind words. Patreon took the download button away for some reason, but you can still download podcasts by right clicking on the mp3 link under the post title for each show.
