Here's where you can contribute your thoughts and opinions for Deathloop for potential inclusion in the forthcoming podcast.A friendly reminder that where the feedback for the podcast is concerned, we love it - but keeping it brief is appreciated. We do want to include a breadth of opinions where appropriate, but no-one wants a discussion podcast that’s mostly reading out essays. Better to save yourself time and cut to the chase if you can.

It feels like, in many ways, Deathloop was both an extension and evolution of the work that started when Arkane developed Prey: Mooncrash. On paper, it's difficult to explain, but once you're in the middle of the action the way the studio's signature immersive-sim level design mixes with the roguelike-light, cycling nature of the Deathloop made an intuitive sense to me. I remember quickly adapting to the game's core mechanics and figuring out my own strategies for navigating to my objectives. And then there's the glue which ties the entire game together, which is the performances of Jason E. Kelley and Ozioma Akagha as the lead characters Colt and Juliana. The personality and chemistry of the two characters as they take verbal and literal potshots at each other has made me laugh more than most other games I’ve played the year it came out. They feel like genuine people, strengthening the attachment I have to them. It's a shame that not many people I know actually got around to playing it, because it was one of my favorite games the year it came out.

It was during my second play session that I discovered what would be Deathloop's most memorable feature: accessing the menu caused a 50% chance of the game freezing (a very exciting feature to have in a game that might go two hours without saving depending on how much you were trying to get done in a particular run). This left me pretty sour towards the game as I continued on and quickly discovered that I just didn't like the game very much. The stealth I enjoyed so much in Dishonored seemed to have been replaced with fairly middling run-and-gun stuff with a new emphasis on looter-shooter collection of guns with slighter bigger numbers. The levels lacked the personality and memorability I was used to from Arkane and the targets were likewise disappointing to me. My exact response to seeing the credits roll on this one was "Oh...ok" and then I filed it away on a shelf to never be touched or thought about again. Good performances from the two leads though.

This game really locked me on from the jump. Great art style, interesting mystery surrounding the island, and the banter between Colt and Juliana just felt really funny and fresh compared to a lot of other games. I was happily unlocking powers and weapons while exploring new environments, when suddenly everything just kind of fell apart. I realised I hadn't changed my weapons or powers for a few hours. Then the whole "do it all in one day" conceit really dawned on me. I'd have to do these missions multiple times. Including the ones I didn't really enjoy the first time (hello, underground bunker). Once that set in, all my drive to continue just vanished. Essentialy the main concept behind the game just magnified all of its weaknesses. I closed the game thinking I'd play something else for a while and come back later. Hopefully making the old missions fresh again. But I never went back. A strange one, for sure. Because I was really in love with it until suddenly I wasn't. As it just blinked out of my consciousness.

As a trophy hunter this game was a fun challenge. The story and Gamow play starts off incredibly strong and continuous to be intriguing until right about 60-75% through the game. Then it takes a nosedive into a very average territory. The island and setting had a lot of character but I was less than enthused to find out that Colt was set up to be attracted to his daughter. The ending seemed to waste the setup during the initial phase of the game. Getting the online trophies was a bit of a chore. I wasn’t expecting to run into an invasion style system in this kind of game. PvP is fun but it made exploring the island and figuring out the mysteries overly stressful in online mode. I’m glad I played the game but was hoping for something closer to dishonored.

I was going to supply my own comment for this recording but the above post has already summed up my experience perfectly! Bugs, boring, disappointing.
