Super Castlevania IV takes everything great from the first and third games in the series and wraps it up in a prettier, more palatable package. I really enjoyed my playthrough of the early games in the series a few years back, and this was a highlight. It looks great, even now, the animation of the main character is cool, and the bosses were fun to fight, although none aside from the final one were overly difficult. This is easily my favourite of the linear platform style Castlevania's.

There’s a lot to like about this game. I especially dig the kind of jazz-fusion vibe they’re going for with the music. The whip flailing move is useful and neat, although it’s a really silly maneuver when you think about the real-life mechanics of it, wriggling the whip around limply in the air, like me trying to entertain my one-year old by jingling keys at him.

Hi gang! Long-time listener, first-time commenter here. I wish I had more positive feedback, but I find Super Castlevania IV one of the less interesting entries of the series, personally. The medieval art style and music don't play to the SNES's strengths at all, resulting in a game that's just muddy and subdued-sounding, in contrast to how vibrant every other game in the series is. It's not all bad of course, any Castlevania is still better than its competition. Still, I'm glad Rondo of Blood and Bloodlines shaped the series' identity going forward. Thanks, guys!

Me whipping: Haha yeah!!! Yes!! Me jumping: Well this stinks. What the heck? Still maybe the best soundtrack of the whole series by so unlike any other Castlevania or even any other SNES game.

Castlevania 4 was one of the first games I got on my shiny new Super Nintendo way back in the day. It will come as no surprise that I think this is my favourite game in the series. Outwith my bias nostalgia I feel the game has aged very well. The graphics and monster design are still excellent. Additionally, the level design is also a highlight as it feels like you’re on this epic journey to the top of the castle. It also has a very approachable difficulty compared to most of the games in the series and the music is just f**king god tier. I think I requested a track on ‘sound of play’ every other month. The reprise of the main theme when you’re about to confront Dracula at the end gets me every time. One of my favourite games of all time and glad Caine and Rinse are covering it
