I've been playing around with some ideas about how demons are created, and that maybe they're not only born, but that other races, like humans and elves, can be transformed into demons. Maybe fully and permanently, but also temporarily or only partially. It could be a fun way to enable some cool character designs and situations! So here's a demon girl enjoying the results of a partial transformation.

I intended to try to make a picture that was a bit simpler than this, but I was having fun with this one, so I ended up doing a bit more with it. 😅 I hope you like it!

Here are the links for the extra content for this illustration:WIP images   Short time lapse (44m)   Long time lapse (7h 18m)   PSD files

If you're looking through the process of this illustration, you'll notice that I attempted a workflow, but pivoted away from it pretty quickly. After having tried a few different approaches recently, I have to say I feel a lot more comfortable with the approach I've used in the past where I do a lot of the work in greyscale and then add colors gradually using Hard Light and Soft Light layers.

I did some experiments trying to find better blending modes that would more accurately represent how light works (as you could see in #91 for example), but from what I can tell based on those experiments, none of the blending modes provide a simple way to accurately represent the behavior of light and shadows. It seems to be down to how the math of blending modes change colors and values linearly, while actual light doesn't change them linearly.

Because there is no simple and fully accurate way (that I know of) to represent the behavior of light with blending modes, I feel like it might be best to accept that things aren't accurate, and instead just try to make it look nice in a stylized way. So I'll probably do that going forward. Illustrations #82 and #85 are good examples of the type of workflow I feel comfortable with and that gives results I enjoy. You can check out their workflows in the gallery post if you're curious about them.

Thank you for supporting me this past month! I've got some more sketches and pictures coming up, and I still want to see if I can find a simpler style I can sometimes use for quicker work, so I'd like to play around with that a bit more and see what happens.

really love the art style! as for the TF content, you could show different stages of the TF, with the person losing more of their humanity each time they cum as the demon slowly overtakes their body.

Beautiful work and I love the concept. I think the results are worth the complexity and time that goes into these!

This is a crazy idea! We are always assuming demons are born or cursed or whatever but you took another really cool approach. It's something I have never thought before and I'm amazed on how well you managed to capture the idea. +1 amazing artwork for the art book. I can't wait for your next idea!

Dorian T

Did you do this piece completely in Paintstorm, or was it a mix between Paintstorm and Photoshop?

Benjamin

Hot concept, hot illustration! I think you’re making me discover a new kink 🥵 seriously, I’m about to … lose control over here, bro 🤤 🍾

Ryurendan

I just ha e 1 important question... Why is she coloring him but not the water, would be a cool idea, like the purple is just her lust spreading over

Kelsy

Haha I totally read this as body paint smearing all over our hero at first.

Trace XL

I'll throw an idea out there. How about a man who is "average" downstairs, until a lovely demon girl he meets shows him a way to... "enhance" himself, and isn't shy about sharing him around to her girlfriends? Eventually the local human girls take notice that he's changed, and he's more than happy to show them where and how much...

Pretty amazing. The amount of work that goes into this is mindblowing

Well you've definitely got a fun idea for your demon lore there! I know I certainly wouldn't mind being turned purple with white hair 😹💜 As for this final image, oh the colours here are just so beautiful! I really enjoy the cool background with the greys of the pillars, urns and stone floors and the varying greens of the plants. I like how the furthest background elements are very vibrant and warmly lit, with the foreground being more shaded, as if it's more out of the sun. The greenish colour for the water is really gorgeous too, I just love the textures and lighting on it as it ripples with the light and dark tones weaving through it. All of the background elements are beautifully painted as always with such great detail, the cracks, chips and patterns in the stone being another favourite part of mine. And of course the characters are beautifully vibrant too and stand out so well against the cool background. Looking at the guy, I love how the purple spreads over his body and seamlessly it transitions into his normal skin tone. The definition of his body is utterly fantastic with how all the muscles weave and interlock, with the shadows showing their depth and definition so well. The beautiful, purple demon girl is of course the highlight for me! 💜💜💜💜💜 I really like her expression, she looks so sexy as she licks her lip and I love the look in her eyes as she leans her head back. Her whole pose is so dynamic with her hair sweeping to one side, with that gorgeous curve to her body as she leans forward and arches her back. The tail is great too with that strong S curve to it as it meanders upwards. The hair looks gorgeous with the shadows contrasting so well with the white, giving it such strong definition and separation between all of the strands. And there's terrific subtle touches like some purple mixed into the hair where it's tinted by her skin tones. The jewellery she has is really nice too with the warm golds popping so well against her and the scene. The metallic textures and detail are amazing, and once again, the other colours mixing in look so nice, I particularly like that green tint running along the bracer on her arm. Her skin tones in general have such beautiful vibrancy to them due to the mix of colours. I like the bluish tint to her horn (as well as it's more painterly texture too), with blues mixed into her tail and butt/thigh as well from the water. Those blues give great contrast and further accentuate her shapes so well. All of the anatomy of her body and many plane changes are so well defined and the way her breasts squish between her fingers is just so sexy! 🥰 I also love the colouring there, with her vibrant, pink-purple nipples surrounded by halos of pale white-grey to really make them pop! Her face is amazing too and along with the blue tinting in parts of her body, the warm pink tinting is also so gorgeous (also seen on her ears and the tips of the horns). Her face is so vibrant and warm while the bright white edge-lighting on her left side is a great contrast to the shadows there and accentuate her features so well. Absolutely excellent work on this piece! The scene is beautiful and sexy, so vibrant and full of energy, life, colour and texture! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Thank you, Nate 😄

I'm glad you like it, Gabriel! :)

It was done primarily in Paintstorm, but I did the final bits of adjustments in Photoshop. I also set up the initial perspective grid in Clip Studio Paint just to see how that worked there, but I've typically done the grid in Photoshop before. Paintstorm doesn't have the 3D panorama features needed for the grid I use, so I can't do that part there.

Calm

Lol, I'm glad you like it!

Calm

It's meant to be him changing color to be more demon-like, and not her color rubbing off on him, though I can see how it looks a bit like that. 😅

Calm

Haha, yeah, I can see what you mean.

Calm

It sounds like a fun concept 😄

Calm

Thanks, I'm glad you do 😄

Thank you, it's fun to hear you think so!

I really like the concept! And this is one of your hottest Devon Girls to dat!!🔥🔥🔥🥵🥵🥵😈😈😈

This is so good! I wonder, does the effect wear off, or is it permanent?

Trace XL

Definitely love how vivid the palette is with your art and the way everything comes together in the finished product. It's sexy, fun, and beautiful, all at once. Makes a guy jealous he's not in there too.

JimmyJayJohn

if you ever wanted to do a 4 panel comic there's a great idea haha

JimmyJayJohn

super big fan of this work. Would love if you can give us another preview of your next piece in the coming weeks!

Stellar work as always, Calm! If I had known getting a titjob would make me a demon, I would have done so a lot sooner. 🤩 The process experiments are really interesting. I never thought to try and use blending modes to emulate light itself - I'd always assumed I would just have to know what light would do & reproduce the effects however I could by hand. I'm glad a fella like you with such robust knowledge of the subject explored the idea to the extremes, even if it turns out it's a dead end. I think in the end it might be for the best, though. To me, what makes art so compelling is the fact that it must pass through the lens of subjective human interpretation at both the creation and appreciation stages - I love seeing the artist thinking on the canvas, feeling how they respond to light or form, trying to feel whatever they were putting into the work or interpreting. So the fact that your process has brought you back around to stylization rather than "accuracy" is a positive, I think. Keep it up!! 💖

hirumono

I love her pale hair and eyebrows, contrasting with her vibrant skin; they "invert" a color scheme we're used to see on real people and give her that 'outsider' look.

Calm

Thank you 😄

Calm

Thanks! I like to imagine it's temporary or permanent depending on the spell used and the skill and power of the people casting it.

Calm

Thank you, I'm glad you like it!

Calm

Thanks! I'll try to do that. :)

Calm

Thanks, Xero! I still feel like it could have been convenient to have a blending mode that behaves closer to how light does, just to have an easier point of reference for what different colors look like under a light of a specified color and intensity. But oh well. I guess I'll just have to do more studies so I don't need that, lol.

Calm

I'm glad you like her 😄

Dr. Science

I absolutely love the way you draw demons.

Thank you! 😄
